Just because your unpopular and called draconian causing all kinds of terrible pain in the short-run, doesn't mean you won't some day be proven to be right.
The winter solstice is the shortest day. It offers the shortest period of daylight. But, unless you live close to the Arctic Circle or Antarctic Circle, your earliest sunsets aren’t on or even near the solstice itself. Instead, your earliest sunsets will come before the winter solstice. The exact date of earliest sunset depends on your latitude. If you live in the southernmost U.S., or a comparable latitude (say, around 25 or 26 degrees north latitude), your earliest sunsets are in late November. If you’re farther north – say, around 40 degrees north latitude – your earliest sunsets are around December 7.
I am learning more how to use Microsoft Excel (and OpenOffice Calc) these days. INDEX and MATCH are super handy functions to know how to use. You would think I would know about these functions, but apparently I'm not that good at spreadsheets.
I am annoyed that they canceled the APM Marketplace Show for the impeachment hearing of some obscure politician that nobody really cares about… I was more interested in hearing life retrospectives on the late fed chairman Paul Volcker.
Barry Goldwater was widely known as a man with extreme views. He is still remembered as the man who said, “Extremism in the defense of liberty is no vice.” But even Goldwater thought Robert Welch went too far.
Welch founded the John Birch Society in 1958 to oppose what he saw as the growing communist influence in America. Through his publications, he attacked whomever he thought was furthering the interest of the Soviets. He also promoted the idea of impeaching Chief Justice Earl Warren and the withdrawing the U.S. from the United Nations.
He named the John Birch Society after an American military advisor in China who had been killed by communist forces. Welch thought Birch would be a suitable model for the anti-communist cause.
When Welch started his society, the hunt for communist agents and sympathizers was still going strong. Many politicians and journalists were gaining notoriety for their declarations of enmity to communism everywhere. But none were more committed than Welch, who attacked anyone he suspected of colluding with Soviet Russia.
