February 16, 2017 8 AM Update
“For those keeping track of such things, it was two weeks since the Ground Hog saw his shadow. I’m not math expert but my calendar shows 31 days until spring. But a modest warm up this weekend.”Â
Not a terrible walk down to the Park and Ride, although some of the sidewalks in Delmar are still icy from melted and re-frozen snow. I guess that’s to be expected this time of year, although I am sure the sidewalks should be mostly clear come the weekend and warmer temperatures.
28 degrees this morning on our way up to 31 degrees later. Cloudy and we aren’t expected to break freezing today. But much milder and this weekend and after today, the sunnier this weekend with a sunset after 5:30 come Friday.
The sun will set at 5:29 pm with dusk around 5:58 pm, which is 1 minute and 17 seconds later than yesterday. Today will have 10 hours and 40 minutes of daylight, an increase of 2 minutes and 43 seconds over yesterday.
Tonight will have a slight chance of snow showers before 8pm. Mostly cloudy, with a low of 18 degrees at 6am. Typical for tonight. Northwest wind 13 to 16 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. In 2016, it got down to 28 degrees with periods of snow. The record low of -16 occurred back in 1973.
There is 2 months until Easter when the sun will be setting at 7:39 pm with dusk at 8:08 pm (Daylight Savings Time). The average high temperature is 59 degrees, with a record high of 91 in 2012. Easter is quite late this year, although this year I don’t expect it to be 92 degrees on Easter. That was an exceptionally warm year and this year Easter is very late this year on  April 16th.
Thinking about going skiing along the Kaaterskill Rail Trail and North South Lake this Sunday or Presidents Day. So far the forecast still looks like it will be nice all weekend, although Sunday may have the warmest but maybe not the sunniest weather of all weekend. About 50-60% overcast all weekend, which isn’t great for summer, but for winter that’s pretty much standard fare.
But first I have to dig out my truck. The snow seems to be rapidly melting. I also want to rewire the USB power ports so they are switched with the CB radio, and permanently soldered in so that when I’m on rough roads, the dash camera doesn’t cut in and out.  Right now on rough roads I have a bad connection, which causes the voltage to sag in and out when I hit bumps. I also want to clean out the back of the truck so it’s ready for spring — and so I can haul my garbage and recycables to the transfer station next weekend.
February 16, 2017 Morning
“Well if today was Ground Hog Day, he wouldn’t see his shadow. But at least it’s a Thursday and at least I have a long weekend coming up. Went to the store and brought milk, so I’m happy for cows that I’m not drinking my coffee black.”
Good morning! Happy Thursday. Mostly cloudy and 27 degrees in Delmar, NY. Breezy, 21 mph breeze from the west-northwest with gusts up to 34 mph. The current wind chill is 13. The skies will clear around 11 pm.
Today will have a chance of snow showers, mainly between 11am and 3pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high of 33 degrees at 2pm. Two degrees below normal. Breezy, with a northwest wind 17 to 23 mph, with gusts as high as 36 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Total daytime snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible. A year ago, we had fog, rain and a high of 56 degrees. The record high of 61 was set in 2006. 17.3 inches of snow fell back in 1958.
