As I had pretty much planned since mid week I’m back home from my two nights in the Adirondacks. ⛺ Yes I can camp in the pouring rain, I have tarps the heater and could build a big fire but do I really want to? I would have stayed north had things cleared out tomorrow but it looks like most of the day tomorrow in the Adirondacks will be bitterly cold with the wind and damp ground with very little sun expected.💦 Rather than be crouched over a propane heater, spending the day adjusting a tarp to avoid leaks and dumping off the accumulated puddle of rain, I figure it best to come home and get unpacked 🏡. Yesterday was a great day, and I got two nights camping so that was a good time.

It wasn’t a bad few days up north but this morning was unnecessarily wet for me as I didn’t take apart camp last night 🌃 before bed like I had planned. Not a big deal the only thing really wet was the flags and the bungee cords. They’re hanging up at home drying out now. Last night was pretty good, I made some pizza 🍕 up then had a fairly reasonable sized fire from the wood I chopped. The axe makes for much easier firewood 🌲processing. Solar worked okay but not great as there was too much shading in the campsite. If it had been a little warmer and the road was drier I would have camped back at the Fox Lair campsite especially now that I know there is fairly decent cell service there 📶 probably from Gore Mountain. It’s nice being able to check the weather and the news with the phone. 📱 I’ll have to keep that campsite in mind come later in the summer.

The cellphone holder 📱 I got from China continues to work quite well. It holds the phone very firmly no worries about it bouncing loose on the rough roads. I don’t touch my phone while driving but I like having WAZE and the bell 🔔 that rings when you reach the speed limit. With cruise control working perfectly again on my truck, as soon as I hear the bell I hit the cruise control button and I don’t have to worry about speeding. I really like cruise control especially in the reduced speed zones. 🚙

So I am packed and planning to leave for the Adirondacks after work today. ⛰ Tomorrow looks absolutely beautiful, not so much so for Friday. But I’ll take a what I can get. The forecast earlier in the week looked quite nice, but it has slipped down hill.

The record low of 23 occurred back in 1965.

I think I will have a great day hiking and camping tomorrow, plus two nights camping, 🏕 maybe do some plinking with the .22 tomorrow around camp, followed by fishing on Friday.  Maybe spend some time around camp reading, listening to music and just relaxing. As turkey season 🦃 ain’t open for another week, I should have the wilderness all to my own, bar maybe one of the forest rangers stopping in to say hi tomorrow, if I’m still at camp and not hiking at that point.

 I am thinking about coming home on Friday morning, 🏠if it’s going to be as wet as they say. I have certainly spent a lot of nights in the wilderness when we’ve gotten in an inch of rain, and I would be willing to stay through the weekend, if it wasn’t expected to be so cold and generally not that great on Saturday. I have the heater and tarps, but I don’t want to be curled up next to the heater all day Friday, dealing with tarps that are getting saturated and dripping.☔ I’ve just spent too many very wet days camping, and it’s fun but not that much fun, especially in the spring.

But still, it’s nice to get away for a few days. I have Friday off from work, so I can take things down and take a nice easy drive back. If it’s not raining too hard, I’ll do some fishing. Saturday, I might do a hike locally, maybe I’ll drive out somewhere or maybe just walk to Five Rivers for more nature study. 🐦 I don’t know, with the breeze and dampness it’s going to be cold on Saturday, even if it’s sunny. After an inch of rain everything is going to be all mud. I bought some inexpensive farm boots yesterday, but I still don’t want to be in really sticky nasty mud if I can avoid it. I really have enough clothes and food for four days in the wilderness, but I doubt will be up there the whole time.🔊
