Areas with non attainment have emissions inspections but other areas often emissions equipment is clunky and works rather poorly. Automakers lobby for one standard but the problem is that one standard wastes fuel, reliability and performance in areas when the equipment is not neccesary.
NYSDOT Rest Areas Across NY
This helpful interactive map shows NYS DOT rest areas along the major interstates (excluding the New York Thruway) with bathrooms. A few of these rest areas are closed, but it will give you an idea which facilities are open. Tomorrow, I will do a map of Thruway Rest Stops. I was originally going to combine these into one map, but it turns out the DOT and Thruway Authority record information on their Rest Areas in a very different format.
Percentage of Green Cars
There is some thought that the President Elect wants to ban Green Cars. It turns out green cars are slightly more popular in rural areas then urban areas, though green isn't a popular color for automobiles these days.
You might ask green cars are more popular in rural areas. For one, green used to be a more popular color for cars and cars in general are older in rural areas, but also Subaru is one few modern makes that sells cars with green paint these days.
