Oneida County, NY 📍

Oneida County is a county located in the U.S. state of New York. As of the 2010 census, the population was 234,878. The county seat is Utica. The name is in honor of the Oneida, an Iroquoian tribe that lives in the region.

Oneida County is in the central portion of New York State, east of Syracuse, and west of Albany. Oneida Lake is on the northwestern corner of the county, and the Adirondack Park is on the northeast. Part of the Tug Hill Plateau is in the northern part of the county. Interestingly, Oneida County’s highest point does not lie on either the plateau nor in the Adirondack Park, but in the county’s southern extremity. The peak’s name is Tassel Hill. It is located slightly southeast of Hardscrabble Road (Tassel Hill Road), between the villages of Waterville and Cassville.

Marcy Correctional Facility is a medium-security state prison for males in Marcy, Oneida County, New York. Marcy specializes in providing alcohol and drug treatment programs. All of Marcy is on one level; there are no stairs, making it especially suitable for disabled prisoners.

Northern Shores of Delta Lake

Delta Lake is situated in Oneida County, New York, approximately 5 miles north of the city of Rome. The lake is a man-made reservoir, created in 1908 by damming the Mohawk River. It was originally built to supply water to the Erie Canal but now also provides flood control and water regulation on the Mohawk River and Erie Canal.

While I doubt it's a one-horse town along US 20, it certainly is not a big and prestigous city in Oneida County. More like a speed trap, but at least it's well marked and just one stoplight before your beyond it.
