Weekend! And happy vacation to me.  It seems like an anti-climatic end to a very busy week as my vacation gets underway. I feel like I’m leaving so many ends untied as I leave Albany, but I realize I’m leaving things in good hands.

I’m sure it will be a pretty good adventure. The past two weeks have been hellish, but as Bob Dylan once said, use your rear view mirror sparingly. The Finger Lakes will be nice, as will be Pennsylvania and the Great Lakes, assuming I make it that far west. A lot depends on the weather but I hope to have analog of summer vacation 2015. 

Today was a pretty hot day. Partly clear and 88 degrees in Albany. There is a west-southwest breeze at 9 mph. The dew point is 70 degrees. The heat index is still 94. I took the bus up and down the State Street hill because it was much to hot to climb it. 

Tonight will have isolated showers and thunderstorms before 11pm. Some of the storms could produce small hail and gusty winds. Partly cloudy tonight with a low of 67 degrees at 5am. Four degrees above normal. Southwest wind 6 to 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. Maximum dew point of 70 at 6pm. The record low of 45 occurred back in 1981. The sun will set at 8:24 pm with dusk around 8:57 pm, which is 54 seconds earlier than yesterday. Waning Gibbous Moon tonight with 80% illuminated. The moon will rise around 9:49 pm. The Last Quarter Moon is on Tuesday with mostly clear skies expected. The Full “Strugeon” Moon is on Thursday, August 18th.

Tomorrow will continue to have some scattered showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 5pm. Some of the storms could produce small hail and gusty winds. Sunny, with a high of 89 degrees at 3pm. Seven degrees above normal. West wind 7 to 17 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. Maximum dew point of 65 at 8am. Hot but somewhat less humid then today. The record high of 96 was set in 1955. 

Somewhat less humid on Sunday. Look for sunny conditions, with a high near 88. Northwest wind 5 to 7 mph. Maximum dew point of 61 at 6am. Typical average high for the weekend is 83 degrees.

In four weeks on August 19 the sun will be setting at 7:49 pm, which is 35 minutes earlier then today. The average high is 80 degrees, and the record for that date is 92 degrees was set back in 1899.

April 13, 2016 Evening

Tonight at 11:59 pm the moon is expected to be at first quarter stage, but it will have already set in Albany so technically our first quarter moon will be on Thursday night. The end of Waxing Crescent Moon is at 11:50 tonight. Tonight is expected to be fairly cloudy with a lot of hazy clouds pushing in during the next few hours but clearing out by late. 55 degrees now, 30 degrees by daybreak.

While I was complaining about the lack of traffic going to work this morning, the 787 is all backed up. Pretty bad traffic tonight. Fender bender. But we have the left lane bus driver, since she’ll keep us moving as fast as anybody on the expressway that is nothing like an expressway this evening. But like everyone on this clogged road, I just want to get home as soon as safely possible.

With the increasing cloudy skies, a light but chilling north breeze and temperatures expected to only be in the upper 40s, I’ll skip the park tonight and I’ll just read at home. Maybe tomorrow night will be finally warm enough. Sunny and 56 tomorrow for the high.

I’m still undecided about the weekend. I could go either way but I do have that Save the Pine Bush cleanup on Saturday. I don’t know, I’d almost rather just go down to the park on Saturday evening and relax in town.

March 3, 2016 evening

Good evening. Partly clear and 27 degrees this evening. We are looking at a low of 17 degrees tonight and clear conditions, good for looking at the stars.

The sun is going to set around 5:49 PM with the twilight concluding around 6:18 PM. The last quarter moon rises at 2:08 AM with about 38% visible. Wednesday is the New Moon. Daylight Savings Time begins a week from Sunday.

Today was a pretty good day, fairly uneventful. Chewing over my weekend plans. Might camp out in the woods, kind of reviewing my options. Back country camping might be fun, somewhere not too far away. We will see. Or maybe go hiking somewhere. I don’t know. We’ll see. It might be a good weekend to get away to somewhere.

Good evening folks. It’s 37 degrees and partly cloudy with an east northeast breeze. Clouds are kind of making things shadowy this evening.

The sun will set in a few minutes around 5:45 pm with darkness around 6:14 pm, which is 1 minutes and 14 seconds later than yesterday. Not the prettiest of evenings with the clouds coming in but having light when one gets out of work is nice.

In four weeks on March 29 the sun will be setting at 7:18 pm (Daylight Savings Time), which is 1 hour and 32 minutes later then today. Plenty of time for going down to park after work with a good book if it’s warm enough.

Later this evening look for rain, mainly after 11pm. Low around 33. Light east wind becoming south 6 to 11 mph in the evening. Winds could gust as high as 21 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

Tonight is the Last Quarter Moon with 48% illuminated. It will rise at 12:18 am. The New Moon is on March 9th.


Wednesday will have a chance of rain and snow showers before 1pm, then a slight chance of snow showers between 1pm and 2pm. Cloudy, then gradually becoming mostly sunny, with a high near 35. Breezy, with a west wind 18 to 24 mph, with gusts as high as 43 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.

All and all it was a pretty good day. A lot of things got done. The weekend is getting closer as is spring time. It looks like we will have some fairly decent weather for the weekend. Saturday will be mostly sunny, with a high near 36. Sunday will be mostly sunny, with a high near 44. Not too bad for early March.
