Big dairy farms, with state-of-the-art milking parlors, robots and other technologies are kind of neat, but when it comes down it, dairy farming is pretty much dairy farming, it's still cows, it's still cleaning and hooking milking machines up their teats, feeding them, hauling manure, cleaning bedding pack, etc. I am actually a bit surprised which such a big operation they don't use more milking robots.
This time of the year, you see some corn being harvested for silage and others still drying out in the fields, waiting to be harvested as feed corn with the proper amount of moisture. A good explanation of the differences and challenges of waiting for the corn to dry enough to be harvested while the fields haven't turned to winter slop.
One of my pass time activities I do usually when waiting on something is to look at show cattle on Facebook and try to score them in my head. There are some real super cattle out there thanks to modern genetics.
