Russian or Chinese Trolls Who Like Write?

I keep getting these rather strangely worded emails from people offering to write articles for my blog.📩 Many of them seem like foreign language speakers, maybe Russian troll farms or Chinese intelligence officers. I just ignore these emails ☠ and put them in the trash bin. ♻ My blog is my place, so I don’t have guest bloggers, as I like to have one-hundred percent control over the content.

Fall is a great time for smartphones and camping!

Hey there,

Fall is my favorite time of year to go camping. I’ll love the crisp air, the changing leaves, and the chance to disconnect before the craziness of the holidays begins.

However, while I certainly enjoy time away from email, texts, and social media, I wouldn’t dream of leaving my smartphone at home. Thanks to a variety of helpful apps, trackers, and tools, my smartphone has basically become my modern-day multi-tool.

I’d like to write an article for your site about how you can use your smartphone to make your next camping trip even better. Is this something you’d be interested in posting on your site? If so, I’m happy to send it to you free of charge. Just let me know. :)

Even on farm roads!

I would like to be a writer of articles. I also like to post weekly updates of hiking, trail running , backpacking,cross-country ski and snowshoe trail conditions for all of Western New York.

I wrote 2 articles in the Snowshoe Magazine. And I will send along a cover letter and resume.

I also wondering if there any paid positions available. If not here do a suggestion of another company I contact.

I would give Conditions and updates on Dirt roads , gravel roads, fire roads , single track trails, hiking trails, bike trails and farmers roads, farmers trails and access roads and access trails. It would be year around reports for hiking,backpacking, trail running, biking and walking . In the winter skiing and snowshoeing. Also possibly dog walking and horseback riding.

More Maps and Interesting Content Coming

I promise there are more maps and interesting content coming, especially as the temperatures start to drop and I spend more time at home. In the winter, I spend a lot more weekends at home, so I will have more time to work on the blog. I will keep looking on state’s websites and federal government data centers to get stats to make up new charts, graphs, Google Maps, and other content. Not having Internet at home means I get more done, as there are fewer distractions, and once I’m ready to make things go live, I bundle up and go down to the library.

Kind of Negligent on Updating My Blog

I have to admit that lately, I’ve been kind of negligent about updating my blog. I really haven’t done a lot of new blog posts, except for my daily notes that I usually put together either right before bed or on the bus ride to work. Nothing really exciting. I’ve been spending more of my time lately working with the soldering iron, writing code for microprocessor projects, reading books, and other things. Probably better uses of my time then processing data, but still I kind of like to post interesting thing on the blog.

Part of my problem is I’ve been continuing to reinstall software on my laptop, so I’ve run into some issues when it comes to making new maps for the blog. I am always missing one package or another, and without internet access at home, it’s difficult to update things. Coming up with new and improved maps has also proven difficult – I lack the ambition to install all the data needed to make maps in other states, while the same time, I’ve run low on new areas to map or re-map in New York State. Likewise, I’ve made charts of many things that I can find easily to graph and put on the web.

Good morning! Didn’t quite get the tent down before the rain but most of camp is down. Moderate  rain and 44 degrees in East Otto. There is a south-southwest breeze at 7 mph. Most of the rain is expected to clear by 1 pm and while I expect my tent to be wet when I take it down, it should dry over the next few days. Going to hang out in the tent until the rain shows or stops, which should happen within the next hour. 

Today will have showers likely, mainly before 1pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high of 51 degrees at 1pm. Three degrees above normal. South wind around 8 mph becoming west in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 22 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. Last year, mostly sunny with a high around 59. The record high of 71 was set in 2006. There was 3.4 inches of snow back in 2002.

Yesterday I refilled the propane tank. Went to a local welding gas store and they filled it for $12 plus tax. A lot cheaper than in Albany but it seems like propane is cheaper in this part of the state, possibly because it’s produced locally. 

I was surprised that it ran down so quickly. Two nights ago I occasionally smelled propane while cooking. Just a whisp here and there. I used soap to check for a leak but couldn’t find it. The smell went away when I disconnected the stove. Didn’t think much of it. The next evening with the tank refilled I noticed the smell again and found bubbles on the line and a small leak. I shut off the propane tank, made sure there was no open flame nearby and just let the line bleed out before permanently retiring it. I think tossing the line around in the cold, coiling and uncoiling it, it developed a crack. 

Driving out to Zoar Valley Unique Area was a nice scenic, kind of agricultural landscape with the hills of Cattaraugus County to the south. Something about a ramshackle dairy farm with Vote Trump spray painted on an old cardboard box from a washing machine just tickled me. You know the type, falling down barns, a vertical bunk of silage in the front lawn and just general junk and old farm machinery strewn around everywhere.  

Yesterday was closing day of trout season, and the Zoar Valley’s Valentine’s Flats was packed with fisherman hoping to net at least one more trout before the season closes. That said, water levels were pretty low on the Cattaraugus Creek, especially the south branch. Saw somebody there with a 22 rifle on their back but it looked like they were mostly there fishing. 

The sun will set at 4:51 pm with dusk around 5:21 pm, which is 51 seconds earlier than yesterday. Maybe a little later as I’m heading west this afternoon. Today will have 9 hours and 42 minutes of daylight, a decrease of 2 minutes and 5 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be partly cloudy, with a low of 38 degrees at 4am. Seven degrees above normal. West wind 5 to 8 mph becoming calm after midnight. Winds though could gust as high as 24 mph. One year ago, mostly clear with a low around 26. The record low of 7 occurred back in 1972.

There are 2 weeks until First Day with Temperatures Recorded Below Zero when the sun will be setting at 4:43 pm with dusk at 5:14 pm. The average high temperature is 42 degrees, with a record high of 67 in 1933.
