December 30, 2017 Morning

Good morning! Final Saturday of 2017! Tomorrow is New Years Eve. Light snow and zero degrees in Delmar, NY. Yeap, not a typo. Just cold and I need to walk to the store to get milk. Calm wind. The skies will clear around 10 pm.

Today will have light snow, mainly before 11am. Cloudy, with a high of 17 degrees at 2pm. 15 degrees below normal. South wind 3 to 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. Total daytime snow accumulation of less than one inch possible. A year ago, we had light snow in the morning, remaining cloudy in the afternoon. The high last year was 35 degrees. The record high of 53 was set in 1984. 10.9 inches of snow fell back in 2000.

The sun will set at 4:31 pm with dusk around 5:03 pm, which is 48 seconds later than yesterday. At sunset, look for cloudy conditions and 17 degrees. There will be a calm wind. Tomorrow will have 9 hours and 7 minutes of daytime, a increase of 45 seconds over today.

Tonight will have a chance of snow showers, mainly before 9pm. Cloudy, then gradually becoming partly cloudy, with a low of 5 degrees at 6am. 15 degrees below normal. Maximum wind chill around -10 at 6am; Light northwest wind increasing to 5 to 10 mph in the evening. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible. In 2016, we had mostly cloudy skies. It got down to 19 degrees. The record low of -17 occurred back in 1917.

The past few days I’ve been busy with family stuff and just plain tired. Its been cold lately but fortunately truck started with ease yesterday. At some point I should check the oil and windshield washer fluid levels though.

Tried to jump start one of my colleague’s cars but it would not start despite Big Red putting out like 15.6 volts. It’s just cold and when a battery fails it really does. Big Red is sluggish in the cold but runs fine.

I still haven’t gotten my inexpensive Bluetooth headphones yet. They may only be $20 but I want to be able to listen to music on the bus and walking around town. That’s kind of frustrating. I just wrote the company, I look forward to hearing back.

No real plans for this weekend, being that it is so cold. I have some projects I’m working on, need to do some cleaning and will probably go down to the library for a while today. The library is closed on New Years Eve and Day. Maybe I will bundle up and go cross country skiing on Sunday or Monday.

Looking ahead, there are 5 weeks until The Day the Music Died when the sun will be setting at 5:12 pm with dusk at 5:41 pm. On that day in 2017, we had cloudy skies and temperatures between 30 and 19 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 32 degrees. We hit a record high of 57 back in 2016.
