January 24, 2017 9 AM Update
At this point around the nine o’clock hour the roads are mostly just wet with some sloppy parts. 33 degrees in Albany so the salt is doing its job. Bus driver said the roads were much worse before eight this morning. I believe him based on the view out my window. More slush on the secondaries but they are definitely passable with due care.
Sleet will turn to rain and lighten up later on then turn back to snow and ice later on. Maybe temperatures will reach 35 by mid day before sagging back to 29 degrees by sunrise tomorrow. Β The sun will set at 4:59 pm with dusk around 5:29 pm, which is 1 minutes and 17 seconds later than yesterday. Today will have 9 hours and 43 minutes of daylight, an increase of 1 minutes and 6 seconds over yesterday. More sun for a brief period tomorrow morning with temperatures reaching 40 tomorrow. Should help melt away some of the slop.
Wet and soggy this morning, butΒ besides needing to wear my hunting boots to workΒ to keep my suit pants and shoes from getting soggy, I didn’t think much of the sleet and slush. Maybe 2-3 inches. Not a terrible weather forecast, especially compared to some storms I can remember in years past, where the buses had trouble climbing the hills and getting stuck everywhere. Today was more slop tonight.
Bus was running on time or maybe a minute early but I caught it just on time. Yeah, I was running late like usual. I build extra time into my schedule, but I spent some of it reset the programming on the Digital TV box to make sure the PBS Newshour records tonight. I was annoyed when I got home last night and the Newshour wasn’t recording. Not sure how it got deleted from the program box.
As previously noted, there are 3 weeks until Valentines Day when the sun will be setting at 5:27 pm with dusk at 5:55 pm. On that day in 2016, we had sunny skies and temperatures between 8 and -13 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 34 degrees. We hit a record high of 63 back in 1946.
