Albany County Rail Trail

I like the Albany County Rail Trail.
In the gorge, it is quite neat.

Crossing the Normans Kill,
On the Historic Railroad Bridge,
Or in the Gorge under the Thruway
and Southern Boulevard Bridge above.

The Normans Kill Falls are nice
Even thought traffic thunders above
And the Southern Boulevard Bridge is ugly
As are the bullet holes that exist through the signs.

It’s not a practical commuter route
except for those who work at the
Port of Albany.

But it definitely is scenic in it’s lower reaches,
and a nice bike ride or walk for the suburbanites.
Who pay a lot of taxes,
and deserve recreational opportunities.

Probably if I had a working bicycle,
and could ride quicker,
I would enjoy the upper reaches.
Which are mostly flat and straight.

But they do get you from point “A”
to point “B”.
Without dealing with speeding motorists.
And that’s not a bad thing.

I now embrace
Albany County Rail Trail.
