Pocket Parks

Don’t forget about those pocket parks and preserves, that might only be a few hundred feet away from your house.

There is this little pocket preserve called the Swift Preserve that is literally 200 feet from my door. Less then five minutes away. I didn’t discover it until I lived in Delmar for five years, and one night noticed the sign driving home after I dark. I go down there occasionally, but not enough.

There is always the appeal of the great wilderness preserve of the Adirondacks or the relative wilds of state forests out in the country. But those places you have to drive to and travel a great distance. It’s nice to be able to walk to some place nearby.
