January 1, 2017 Morning

Good morning! Happy New Year! As we flip the calendar to 2017 there are four weeks to my 34th Birthday. Mostly cloudy and 34 degrees in Delmar. Gray start to our New Year. There is a west breeze at 10 mph.

Later on this New Year’s Day, we will have mostly sunny conditions, with a high of 37 degrees at 12pm. Six degrees above normal. West wind 8 to 11 mph, with gusts as high as 21 mph. Not a terrible way to kick off our New Year. A year ago, we had snow and a high of 38 degrees. The record high of 57 was set in 1966. 9.2 inches of snow fell back in 1961.

The sun will set at 4:34 pm with dusk around 5:06 pm, which is 53 seconds later than yesterday. Today will have 9 hours and 8 minutes of daylight, an increase of 49 seconds over yesterday. Days are getting longer at an accelerating rate as we head into the New Year.

Tonight will be mostly clear, with a low of 17 degrees at 6am. One degree above normal. West wind around 6 mph becoming calm in the evening. Certainly not as mild as last year. In 2016, it got down to 29 degrees with periods of snow. The record low of -20 occurred back in 1970.

As previously noted, there are 4 weeks until My 34th Birthday when the sun will be setting at 5:06 pm with dusk at 5:36 pm. On that day in 2016, we had snow and temperatures between 38 and 25 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 31 degrees. We hit a record high of 54 on my birthday back in 2002.
