December 5, 2016 Evening

Good evening! Partly cloudy and 41 degrees in the City of Albany. There is a west breeze at 11 mph with gusts up to 21 mph. Mild yes, but certainly chilly downtown with that wind.

That brief snow we got this morning was pretty, but it wasn’t much and didn’t last. I expect more snow in the future but not this week. Thinking about going up to the the Adirondacks this weekend.

Got out of work a little after 5:40 pm and taking the local home. Traffic isn’t too bad this evening and the bus is making good time. Really no complaints about that.

Listening to Charlie Brown’s Christmas album. With less than three weeks to Christmas, the holiday season will be over before you know it. Then we will be into the cold harsh month of January. At least now, I can afford the heat,so I don’t have to freeze at home like I did in years past. Although I still turn it down when I’m at work because there is no sense in wasting energy.

Tonight will be partly cloudy, with a low of 33 degrees at 5am. Five degrees above normal. West wind 7 to 10 mph. Mild but with a breeze. In 2015, it got down to 23 degrees with periods of fog. The record low of -5 occurred back in 1901.

Tonight we have a Waxing Crescent Moon with 43% illuminated. The moon will set around 12:17 am. The First Quarter Moon is on Tuesday night with mostly cloudy expected. The Full “Cold” Moon is on Wednesday, December 14th.

Right now, a split verdict on the weekend. Saturday, mostly sunny, with a high near 29. Sunday, a chance of snow showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 32. Chance of precipitation is 30%.Typical average high for the weekend is 38 degrees. It’s going to feel like January but based on the totality of the weather forecast I may go camping – it will be sunny on Saturday and not too windy. I would like to get out of town, if only for a change of pace.

In four weeks on January 2 the sun will be setting at 4:33 pm, which is 12 minutes later then tonight. In 2016 on that day, we had snow and temperatures between 35 and 29 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 31 and 16 degrees. The record high of 61 degrees was set back in 1890.
