July 26, 2016 Night
Good evening! Laying on my back on the banks of Foster Pond looking up at the millions of stars tonight. Some light pollution here in the Finger Lakes but not terrible. I saw a shooting star walking up to here on Chicken Coop Road but nothing since then.
A pleasant summer evening, mostly clear and 67 degrees in Burdett. There is a northwest breeze at 5 mph. The dew point is 61 degrees. After several warm evenings, this one is pretty cool.
It follows a nice day, spent hiking in Enfield Glen then later the Taughannock State Park and some swimming at the beach. Watching the sun set from the Interlaken Trail was an amazingly beautiful conclusion to the day.
Tonight will be mostly clear, with a low of 62 degrees at 5am. Typical for tonight. West wind around 5 mph. Maximum dew point of 61 at 10pm. The record low of 47 occurred back in 1977. Last Quarter Moon tonight with 50% illuminated. The moon will rise around 12:39 am. The New Moon is next Tuesday. The Full βStrugeonβ Moon is on Thursday, August 18th.
Tomorrow will be sunny, with a high of 85 degrees at 3pm. Three degrees above normal. West wind around 6 mph. Warm but not very humid. You might say, incredibly pleasant. Maximum dew point of 59 at 8am. The record high of 97 was set in 1955. The sun will rise at 5:54 am with the first light at 5:22 am, which is 59 seconds later then yesterday. They don’t make days nicer than that in New York.
I’m hoping to get down to the swimming area at Robert Treman State Park tomorrow if it’s open. I might hike the lower gorge trail then hop in the gorge pool, just to say I’ve done it. I’ll call before I drive down. Maybe spend some time driving and hiking around Connecticut Hill WMA? Then I’ll end my day at the Watkins Glen pool. Maybe get ice cream at the Glen Dairy Bar to end the name and fish either Foster Pond or Teeter Pond well into the dark. Tomorrow is my last full day in the Finger Lakes then it’s off to the Allegheny National Forest for the balance of the week.
I don’t understand all the complaining about the extreme heat. I guess down in New York City, it’s much hotter and oppressive then in the Finger Lakes. But then again when you spend your days at the pool or at Cayuga Lake and your nights high up on Hector Backbone, it’s really not that warm.
0.4 inch of rain expected between Thursday 8am and Saturday 7am. Within the next four days, a total of 0.4 inches of rain is expected. No muggy weather expected at this time. The rain is just from thunderstorms, so hopefully it won’t wreck the second half of the week when I move on to Pennsylvania.
Looking ahead, Altamont Fair Opens is in 3 weeks, National Dog Day is in 1 months, Sunrise After 7 AM in Albnay is in 14 weeks, Election Day is in 15 weeks and Square Dance Day is in 18 weeks.
