September 30, 2015 morning

Good morning. Talk about a wet Wednesday. 56 degrees and heavy rain with minor flooding on low-lying roadways. Central Ave under the railroad tracks and US Route 20 near Stuyvesant Plaza are closed due to flooding. I walked 50 ft from home to the bus shelter and I got soaked. The bus is kicking up massive puddles of water along Delaware Ave and the Normans Kill is a raging muddy torrent. The ramp to 787 from the Thruway is backed up probably due to a car crash. Additionally, traffic delays on Delaware Ave due to flooding at Holland Ave.

The rain is expected to taper off in the next few hours and the mercury will drop to the low 40s creating a significant hypothermia risk if your outdoors. Try to stay dry and avoid cotton. At least it won’t get cold enough for snow or the roads freezing up – because it will certainly feel like that by evening. Nicer, but cool fall weather expected for Thursday and Friday before the next batch of rain comes in for the weekend. The good news is that we need the rain.

Those new light bulbs in my apartment make it a lot brighter on this dark and dreary morning. Probably won’t use the lights as much in the evening but the brightness makes it easier to get going. With the low cost LED bulbs that don’t use much energy, I will probably swap out more of the now old and dim florescent bulbs in my apartment with LEDs.

Assuming I can get the project I am working on substantially wrapped up today, I will request the time off for the West Virginia trip. I just need to get my truck inspected and tires rotated and the cab cleaned out. Then I’ll be ready to go, probably the week after Columbus Day Weekend.
