It’s not a bad thing I stayed home

It turns out that I had more work to do last night and this morning. Had a project running on robo dialer until 9 PM and then another thing came in this morning to work on. Good Friday is a state holiday and I’m not only getting work hours I can bank for maybe next week should I head north but also that wind has been so persistent lately. Not only would it make it cold for camping but the fire risk from embers and just the wind would mean I’d want to be extremely careful – plus I don’t love the idea of having a campfire during the much-hyped burn ban, though in fine print campfires are legal if attended to and kept reasonably small.

Finally got to the grocery store last night, bought $100 of groceries at Walmart and when I was checking out the bag of flour exploded everywhere. I ended up going to Yuppie Market32 in Glenmont there after and getting some kind of fancy mushrooms, no not that kind the flavorful type, and my whole wheat flour there. Always buy the King Arthur Whole Wheat flour, as I only cook with whole wheat,

Am I shocked about the work I had come in today? No, because while Good Friday is often a holiday where I work on theory, and I don”t have to go into the office, always seems like a busy time of year. I am thinking of a hike this afternoon after lunch at Capital Region WMA / Cowee State Forest, or maybe ride part of the way then find a tree, lock up my bike and hike fromt here. I was thinking I never get out of town, and it’s a pretty nice day. Especially not Rensselaer County. I want to explore some new places. Then if more work comes in the evening, I can swing by the suburban office and work from my desk there. That said, I could have certainly worked from the state forest, especially with the sun today using my hotspot or the Rensselaerville library.

I also want to wash my truck, 🛻 as even though I did a few weeks back I was inspecting the under-carriage and noticed there is still is some salt under it. I saw a 2010 Chevy Silverado online and it was showing how bad the tin worm truly can be under the frame. That Silverado had the central support beams completely rotted out with nothing to hold the shocks on to. Mine isn’t quite that bad yet, but it’s kind of a mess too. That said, I know this is probably the last year for Big Red, and while I’ll miss him, it’s been a great going on 14 years come October. That said, I’m ready for a smaller truck, one that is easier to fit into campsites and on trails, not such a boat to drive, uses a lot less gas. A good wash, after hiking today will be fun. Or maybe tomorrow would be even better at Mom and Dad’s Anniversary Party. Hitting the mid-70s tomorrow!

Also, thinking of exploring the Coeymans WMA from the new entrance under the Thruway, after the party, and maybe Sunday aka Easter riding some of the roads up at Partridge Run WMA. Meeting the family for Easter too. The plan is then possibly on Thursday mid-day to head up to Adirondacks and camp through Monday, but a lot depends on the weather. Not as worried about the fire risk up north, as they’ve had snow until recently but obviously soft roads and mud-holes are concern, though for hiking I can just wear the barn boots and whatever. Maybe do some trout fishing too.
