Not about saving the children and the elderly 💉

I keep up with my vaccination schedule nowadays even though when I was first out of college I fell a little behind, just like with my year physical and biyearly dental cleanings. Not to save the children or the elderly but because getting sick is no fun – far less fun than maybe a few minutes inconvenience and a sore arm the next day.

Scheduled online got both COVID and flu shot last October. I was in an out in less than 15 minutes from the pharmacy, fully covered preventative maintenance under the insurance plan. It was a nice night for an after dark bike ride to the pharmacy! I got COVID even after the booster, and it sure wasn’t fun but I can only imagine how less fun it would be if I hadn’t kept up on my shots.

TDAP boosters are a good thing too. I got up to date a few years back after reading about the Whooping Cough outbreak in Oneonta – that does not sound like a good time if you get as an adult and probably less if you are a baby or elderly and die from it. Tetanus is no joke either when you are scratched by a piece of metal then have to get your leg chopped off.

Seriously, I don’t think a band should play the National Anthem just because you agree to have a sore arm the next day. And I don’t think you should be viewed as a hero for choosing to keep your vaccines up to date. But I do think it beats the alternative.
