June 30, 2021 Morning
Good morning! Where did June go? I know Trump supporters are holding their breath, hoping that in a month massive fraud will be uncovered and Trump will be reinstated as president. I’m guessing that is probably rather unlikely. Maybe 2024. Two weeks to National Nude Day π±. With the heat, sleeping buck naked or at least in your boxers is recommended. Partly sunny and 76 degrees in Delmar, NY. π Calm wind. The dew point is 71 degrees. The muggy weather ends Saturday around 3 am. π
The air conditioning feels nice on the bus π, although at this point I’m getting used to the heat and humidity. It’s hard for me to remember such a long stretch of weather with such high dew points and humidity, I feel you have to go back to around 2012 or 2013. π° Yesterday I went to the store and got lots of frozen fruit π and then in the evening went down to the library. It’s nice things are getting back to normal. That said, I have mixed feelings about working in the office more. π» The air conditioning is nice but it sure is a lot more flexible to work remotely especially from the Adirondacks.
Today will have showers and thunderstorms likely, mainly after 4pm. Some of the storms could produce gusty winds and heavy rain. Partly sunny π, with a high of 89 degrees at 1pm. Six degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 72 at 10am. Heat index values as high as 95. Light and variable wind becoming west 5 to 9 mph in the morning. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning, which became thunderstorm by afternoon. It was somewhat humid. The high last year was 81 degrees. The record high of 98 was set in 1964.
Solar noon π is at 1:00 pm with sun having an altitude of 70.5° from the due south horizon (-0.3° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 2.1 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour π starts at 7:55 pm with the sun in the west-northwest (296°). πΈ The sunset is in the west-northwest (303°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 8:38 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 27 seconds with dusk around 9:11 pm, which is 6 seconds earlier than yesterday. π The best time to look at the stars is after 9:58 pm. At sunset, look out for thunderstorms π© and temperatures around 79 degrees. The dew point will be 68 degrees. There will be a southwest breeze at 6 mph. Today will have 15 hours and 15 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 36 seconds over yesterday.
Tonight will have showers and thunderstorms likely before 2am, then a slight chance of showers between 2am and 3am, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 3am. Mostly cloudy , with a low of 70 degrees at 3am. Nine degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 69 at 6pm. Southwest wind around 6 mph becoming calm after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. In 2020, we had partly cloudy skies in the evening, which became rain by the early hours of the morning. It was humid. It got down to 64 degrees. The record low of 45 occurred back in 1978.
On this day in 1971, Ohio ratifies the 26th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, reducing the voting age to 18, thereby putting the amendment into effect. π β Also in 1934, The Night of the Long Knives, Adolf Hitler’s violent purge of his political rivals in Germany, takes place. π‘ Fortunately, we only have obnoxious rhetoric to that impact in our country today.
The weekend forecast is improving. π Saturday, a chance of showers. Partly sunny, with a high near 73. Chance of precipitation is 50%. Maximum dew point of 61 at 10am. Sunday, independence Day, a chance of showers, with thunderstorms also possible after 2pm. Partly sunny, with a high near 76. Chance of precipitation is 40%. Monday when the holiday is observed, looking at a chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly sunny, with a high near 84. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Typical average high for the weekend is 83 degrees.
Do I end up going up to the Adirondacks after all? π It’s an interesting question for sure. I might end up staying up north through Tuesday then, and working up in Speculator with the forecast improving. Do I do Piseco-Powley Road? Or somewhere else. The Green Mountains are another possiblity, or I am considering tent camping somewhere up in the woods in Schoharie. There are many options for sure, although I do have to worry about sites going quickly on Friday.
Still chewing over what I am going to do about my counseling appointment next week, π©βοΈ but I’m tempted to cancel it and postpone indefinitely as I want to do other things at this point. I think I’ve spent enough money on this at this point. πΈ I do have to be in town next week on Friday morning though for my eye appointment π but then I can decide what I want to do for the balance of the day — I might take the afternoon off if I want to head out of town.
As previously noted, there are 2 weeks until National Nude Day π± when the sun will be setting at 8:31 pm with dusk at 9:05 pm. On that day in 2020, we had mostly sunny skies , thunderstorm and temperatures between 84 and 67 degrees. You know, general summer weather. Etc. Typically, the high temperature is 84 degrees. We hit a record high of 99 back in 1995.
