May Save Lives

… It MAY save lives!

I’ve long thought the “Stay Home, It May Save Lives” campaign is bad messaging. Not because of substance – physical distancing might reduce the spread of Coronavirus especially in dense urban environments where the virus is established but the “may” part of it.

It sounds very uncertain. It might or it might not. Maybe that’s what’s the science suggests – there is a lot of uncertainty around it – but it’s hard to upend people’s lives on an uncertain basis. I guess it’s trying to appeal to the do gooders in the public.

Maybe it would be a more effective if not more dishonest campaign to say, “Stay Home, Save Lives.”
