June 22, 2018 Night

Good evening! Mostly cloudy and 69 degrees in Delmar, NY. ☁ There is a south-southeast breeze at 8 mph. πŸƒ. The dew point is 56 degrees. Honestly, I think it feels more humid than that but maybe it’s just my imagination. The skies will clear Monday around 7 am.

It’s been a long week, im sitting out back under the moonlight. It’s unfortunate that I couldn’t make it to the Adirondacks this weekend with the weather, 🌲but I was planning on going to the Save the Pine Bush Hike tomorrow at any rate. πŸ’€After this week I need some itinerary recharge my battery as it’s been a long week. 😴

After work, I had a quick dinner and went down to the park with a book, πŸ“™which I quickly lost interest in and stopped reading. I used to read a lot more at the park until I got my smartphone and they started providing free internet at the park.

A few people have been lighting off firecrackers and sparklers around, πŸŽ‡which I can understand is a real nuisance in urban areas. In the backcountry of the Adirondacks, nobody cares when the nearest campsite is a mile away. I hope to buy some this weekend at Walmart, maybe when I go there to get some new boots to replace the ones whose soles would be described by Hillary Clinton as being in deplorable condition. πŸ‘ž

Tonight will be mostly cloudy ☁, with a low of 58 degrees at 6am. One degree below normal. Maximum dew point of 56 at 10pm. Southeast wind around 8 mph. In 2017, we had mostly cloudy skies. It became humid as the night progressed. It got down to 69 degrees. The record low of 44 occurred back in 1940.

Tonight will have a Waxing Gibbous Moon πŸŒ” with 78% illuminated. The moon will set at 2:39 am. The Strawberry πŸ“Full Moon πŸŒ• is on Wednesday night with a chance of showers. Maybe next weekend I should go to Schoharie County and get strawberries. The sun will rise at 5:18 am with the first light at 4:43 am, which is 16 seconds later than yesterday. πŸŒ„ Tonight will have 8 hours and 41 minutes of darkness, an increase of 8 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will have a chance of showers, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after noon. Cloudy πŸ’¦, with a high of 66 degrees at 2pm. 14 degrees below normal. Maximum dew point of 61 at 6pm. Southeast wind 5 to 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. That’s a start but we could definitely use more as the grass is getting brown and we are in a pre-drought condition. I certainly don’t want any burn bans up north for when I go camping – plus I have other junk I should burn the next time I have a good hot fire in the wilderness.πŸ”₯I also want to buy a bunch of ground fireworks and shoot them off. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies. The high last year was 89 degrees. The record high of 96 was set in 1888.

Tomorrow is the Save the Line Bush hike lead this month by Hugh Johnson. Tomorrow morning at the end of Madison Avenue Extension which is what Washington Avenue Extension becomes after New Karner Road.🐸 He’s always a very interesting hike leader.

More rain showers and clouds tomorrow night but again not adding up to MUCH. πŸ’¦ Showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm before 1am, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms between 1am and 2am, then a chance of showers after 2am. Patchy fog between 1am and 5am. Otherwise, cloudy, with a low around 60. East wind around 5 mph becoming calm after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms

Looking ahead to Sunday, a chance of showers before 8am, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms between 8am and 2pm, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after 2pm. ⚑Patchy fog between 7am and 8am. Otherwise, mostly cloudy, with a high near 79. Southwest wind 3 to 6 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. Maximum dew point of 67 at 2pm. Kind of looks ducky for outdoors plans. πŸ₯Typical average high for the weekend is 80 degrees.

I hear it’s supposed to warm up for the last week of June into July. I’m looking forward to some hot weather so I can spend it at the Potholers. 🏊 Needs to be really hot for the Potholers to be nice. Plus Schoharie County for fishing and swimming. The Finger Lakes for the second half of the month. As the fourth of July is mid week, I have no special plans for Independence Day.πŸŽ† With the solar panel on my truck, I always have a fully charged accessory battery after a few hours sitting out in the sun. 😎

Been toying with the idea of adding a three way switch and a diode (to avoid backfeeding power to the idle speed control) so I could also charge the starting battery off the solar panel πŸ”‹but I thats a bit risky lest I park the truck in a shady spot and I put the switch in the wrong position. But it would be nice if I could open and close the doors on the truck and not have to worry about discharging the starting battery while parked. Only involves changing a few wires and buying a $5 double throw switch but I’m still HESITANT. But then again I like being able to wire stuff up and the low voltage disconnect should protect against most accidents.

In four weeks on July 20 the sun will be setting at 8:27 pm,πŸŒ„ which is 9 minutes and 45 seconds earlier then tonight. In 2017 on that day, we had partly cloudy skies and temperatures between 88 and 68 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 83 and 62 degrees. The record high of 97 degrees was set back in 1991.

Started playing with the Esp32 microprocessor development board I got in the mail this week. It is so much more powerful than the Arduino Nano and has things like Bluetooth and Wi-Fi built in to. Only $4.60 includes free shipping from China in under two weeks. I thought it would use a lot more power than the Nano but it really doesn’t as it uses 3.3 volt logic rather than the old fashioned 5 volt logic. It has a very low power sleep mode and only the wifi is somewhat power hungry but I lack that technology at home. πŸ“ŸI’m going to have to build a voltage divider with some resistors to reduce the supply voltage from the 5 volt USB power as it lacks a voltage regulated pin built in and maybe have to get some logic level converter chips cheap from China ⚑ to go between the different logic levels but hopefully the later won’t be necessary. Heck it might even turn out to be more energy efficient when it’s all up and running.

I finally got around to adding a bunch more summer and autumn holidays to the upcoming countdown down below. πŸ‚ I wish I could add these to my display module, maybe eventually I can when I switch over to the ESP32 microprocessor which has a lot more data capacities. I actually knocked my display sign down today at work so I have it home this weekend so repair solder connections.

Looking ahead, Hottest Time of the Year πŸ˜… is in 3 weeks, State Fair Opens 🎑 is in 2 months, Average High Falls To 79 Degrees β›± is in 9 weeks, Labor Day Weekend Begins πŸ‘¨β€πŸ is in 10 weeks, Average High 70 πŸŽ‘ is in 13 weeks, Autumn πŸ‚ is in 3 months, Thanksgiving πŸ¦ƒ is in 5 months and Buy Nothing Day πŸ› is in 22 weeks.
