Late again โŒš

Does anybody use a watch in 2023? Second gear didn’t want to engage properly but I’m finally out walking and I think I can make up sufficient time during breakfast to catch the express.

Good morning! Happy Tuesday. Partly cloudy and 38 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ›… There is a northwest breeze at 6 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The skies will clear around noontime.

I’m up and moving ๐Ÿ˜ด early enough to avoid the smoldering cars and the traffic around the High School ๐Ÿซ and I think I’ll make the morning work for me. I think I’ll reheat those pancakes ๐Ÿฅž I made up this weekend. Then hurry into the shower, iron my clothes and run out to the bus. ๐ŸšŒ That said, usually these days the bus is running late so I’ll probably be good on time.

Today will have a slight chance of showers after 1pm. Partly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 54 degrees at 5pm. 10 degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around April 5th. Northwest wind around 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 69 degrees. The record high of 89 was set in 2009. 0.3 inches of snow fell back in 1928.โ„ I think the winter season is almost done.

Monday was good, โ˜บ a somewhat busy day but I found a spec sheet ๐Ÿ“„ for my bicycle ๐Ÿšฒ so I could order parts for it. I believe I’m getting closer to getting it back on the road. Walked 9.1 miles, mostly in the evening after work but I also stepped out of the office mid-day for while.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:54 pm with sun having an altitude of 60.5° from the due south horizon (-10.3° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 3.4 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 7:10 pm with the sun in the west-northwest (283°). ๐Ÿ“ธ

Today is a pay day ๐Ÿ’ต which is good as rent is due the end of the week with May just around the corner. My rent remains quite affordable and living in the city I don’t have to drive anywhere. And once I get my bike running my hope is to start saving on my bus ๐Ÿš fare too.

The sunset is in the west-northwest (289°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 7:48 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 4 seconds with dusk around 8:18 pm, which is one minute and 9 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the First Quarter ๐ŸŒ“ Moon in the west-southwest (255°) at an altitude of 56° from the horizon, 250,541 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 8:55 pm. At sunset, look for partly clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 51 degrees. There will be a northwest breeze at 6 mph. Today will have 13 hours and 52 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 38 seconds over yesterday.

The lock ๐Ÿ”’ on my door ๐Ÿšช has been acting up again but I found another key ๐Ÿ— and seemed to free it up. I’ll have to see if I have some lock grease around or I’ll have to call the landlord. I think things corroded up a bit from the heavy rain over the weekend.

Tonight will be partly cloudy ๐ŸŒค, with a low of 35 degrees at 3am. Six degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around April 11th. West wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the evening. In 2022, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became light rain by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 46 degrees. The record low of 24 occurred back in 1972.

Weekend still looks cloudy, cool and wet. ๐ŸŒง๏ธ Saturday, a chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 60. Chance of precipitation is 40%. Sunday, showers likely. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 59. Chance of precipitation is 70%. Typical average high for the weekend is 66 degrees. Yes, I am sticking in town I think.

Looking ahead, there are 8 weeks until Primary Day ๐Ÿ—ณ๏ธ when the sun will be setting at 8:38 pm with dusk at 9:11 pm. On that day in 2022, we had mostly sunny and temperatures between 82 and 47 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 81 degrees. We hit a record high of 97 back in 1953.

Checking Me Out

April 11, 2023 Morning

Twenty thousand steps later and it’s a Tuesday ๐Ÿ‘ฃ

It got dark and I was tired and stopped at 9.9 miles which is so close but not ten miles.

Good morning! Happy Tuesday. Partly cloudy โ›… and 38 degrees in the Delmar for the morning walk. Calm wind.

Thinking about cooking up some barley ๐ŸŒพ for breakfast this morning for something different. Rice, shrimp and stir fry vegetables for dinner tonight I’m making – from ingredients without all the added salt and sugar. Always trying to find healthy new foods to eat to add variety and nutrition.

Today will be partly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 70 degrees at 3pm. 13 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around May 10th. Light and variable wind becoming west 9 to 14 mph in the morning. Winds could gust as high as 25 mph. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies. The high last year was 61 degrees. The record high of 87 was set in 2017. 1.7 inches of snow fell back in 1942.โ„

The service is done on my truck ๐Ÿ”ง but I had a meeting on Monday afternoon so I’m picking it up today before work. I think I’ll take th local ๐Ÿš in after that, maybe from the Delaware Park and Ride, so I can get tofu for use in meals later in the week.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:57 pm with sun having an altitude of 55.6ยฐ from the due south horizon (-15.2ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 4.1 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 6:55 pm with the sun in the west (276ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ

The sunset is in the west-northwest (282ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 7:32 pm after setting for 2 minutes and 57 seconds with dusk around 8:01 pm, which is one minute and 9 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 8:36 pm. At sunset, look for mostly cloudy skies โ˜ and temperatures around 66 degrees. Breezy, 16 mph breeze โ›… from the west-southwest with gusts up to 34mph. Today will have 13 hours and 14 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 49 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฅ, with a low of 49 degrees at 6am. 13 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around May 17th. Breezy, with a west wind 14 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 34 mph. In 2022, we had cloudy skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 44 degrees. The record low of 13 occurred back in 1874.

Weekend continues to look mild and fairly spring if not summer like. ๐ŸŒธ Saturday, partly sunny, with a high near 78. Maximum dew point of 52 at 11am. Sunday, a chance of showers. Partly sunny, with a high near 74. Chance of precipitation is 40%. Maximum dew point of 53 at 10am. Typical average high for the weekend is 59 degrees. Closer to normal for next week.

I’m thinking Blodgett Hill this weekend ๐Ÿšถ for another 20 mile hike but it depends on the weather forecast and how I’m feeling. It’s a pretty good hike.

There are 2 months until Fathers Day ๐Ÿ‘จ when the sun will be setting at 8:34 pm with dusk at 9:07 pm. The average high temperature is 34 degrees, with a record high of 61 in 1895.

March 27, 2023 Morning

Good morning! Monday’s come back around again. The final Monday of March as they say, although I could totally see the legislature suspending the clock ๐Ÿ•’to get a few more days out of March and the fiscal year.

Mostly clear ๐ŸŒ„ and 30 degrees in Delmar, NY. Calm wind. A bit chilly to start out the morning but it will warm up quickly as we are in the end of March. ๐ŸŒก๏ธIt’s nice how the mornings once again have more light and I can walk at 6 or 6:15 am in the morning before breakfast ๐Ÿฅฃ. Truth is it works so much better for my mornings.

Today will rain likely, mainly after 5pm. Increasing clouds ๐ŸŒž๐Ÿ‘‰๐ŸŒฆ๏ธ, with a high of 51 degrees at 1pm. One degree above normal, which is similar to a typical day around March 29th. Light and variable wind becoming northeast around 6 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. Better pack my umbrella โ˜”. A year ago, we had cloudy skies in the morning, which became light snow by afternoon. The high last year was 41 degrees. The record high of 78 was set in 1998. 6.7 inches of snow fell back in 1959.โ„

Crude

March 21, 2023 Morning

Good morning! Cool and clear start to the Tuesday. Partly clear ๐ŸŒ… and 29 degrees in Delmar, NY. Calm wind. Things will start to thaw out at around 8 am. ๐ŸŒก๏ธ

I’ll be the first to admit that it is a cold start to the morning with the heat off ๐ŸŒธ but it’s spring and I’m not going to pay for heat if there is no danger of pipes freezing or excessive cold. Indeed this afternoon it should be in the mid 50s. That said, I was pleasantly surprised when I checked my February – March electric and gas bill was only $85. Heating blanket boosted the electric side of things a bit but keeping it at 48 except the coldest days helped a lot. ๐Ÿ’ต I was expecting a little bit over $100 for the bill like the January – February bill with the cold we had mid February.

Today will be mostly cloudy, then gradually becoming sunny โ˜, with a high of 56 degrees at 3pm. Nine degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around April 8th. Light and variable wind becoming west 6 to 11 mph in the morning. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning, remaining cloudy in the afternoon. The high last year was 55 degrees. The record high of 78 was set in 1921. 6 inches of snow fell back in 1905.โ„

What can I say, it’s going to be a a nice day. ๐Ÿข Too bad I’m going to be in the office all day downtown. Now if we could only have another pandemic and I could be remote working from my truck at Five Rivers Environmental Education Center like I was three years ago. ๐Ÿฆ Watching the birds while I wrote the memos ๐Ÿ“ and endless Zoom meetings. Those were the days.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 1:03 pm with sun having an altitude of 47.6ยฐ from the due south horizon (-23.3ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 5.5 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 6:31 pm with the sun in the west (265ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ

I cooked up some of the wild salmon I bought on Sunday. ๐Ÿ  I have to say it was tasty. And easier to cook than fish sticks or breaded fish filets. Healthier too. I don’t know why I had never done it before, you just take it out of the freezer in the morning, toss it in the refrigerator before work. Then in the oven broccoli ๐Ÿฅฆ and also brown rice with lentils and seasonings – chilli ๐ŸŒถ powder and garlic powder. Being individually vaccum wrapped its more plastic than I would like but I’ve cut plastic out in other ways like not buying apple juice or as much milk and it’s a lightweight plastic bag that should make an excellent fire starter especially with the fish oils. ๐Ÿ”ฅ Really easy to bale that plastic wrap into a tight ball โšฝ. Cost wise, it’s slightly more expensive but the portions are perfect and actually save money by ensuring you only eat the right amount as the rest is frozen and can’t be eaten right away. ๐Ÿ’ต

The sunset is in the west (271ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 7:09 pm after setting for 2 minutes and 54 seconds with dusk around 7:36 pm, which is one minute and 9 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 8:10 pm. At sunset, look for partly cloudy skies ๐ŸŒƒ and temperatures around 47 degrees. There will be a north-northwest breeze at 7 mph. Today will have 12 hours and 17 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 54 seconds over yesterday.

Last night I went to the Elm Ave Park ๐Ÿž and walked until dusk ๐ŸŒ† which was nice for the first time after work this year. ๐Ÿšถ It helps to get in the extra steps ๐Ÿ‘ฃ and it’s fun to walk in the woods around dusk ๐Ÿฆ‰ and see what wildlife is out there. Still though not a lot of evening after dinner but it’s good to get to bed relatively early.

Tonight will be mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฅ, with a low of 31 degrees at 5am. Three degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around March 30th. North wind around 6 mph becoming calm in the evening. In 2022, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 29 degrees. The record low of 2 occurred back in 1875.

Finished my taxes last night, ๐Ÿ“ and while checking the paper forms for my state taxes noticed that I hadn’t reported any Capital Gains on my federal taxes, panicked for a minute and double checked my investment statement and confirmed no capital gains received this past year as the market ended down ๐Ÿ“‰ so much this past year. I didn’t sell anything this year but in better years I do get some capital gains just from the index funds that sell off parts at times to make sure they are still accurately tracking the market. But not in 2022, as most of the leading stocks were down. Got lots of dividends though but I prepaid enough to cover them. I filed ๐Ÿ“‚ my federal taxes online but did paper state taxes as the state ones are simple as I’m a renter but not super poor so I don’t have any real state tax credits except for my contributions to my neices education account.

Not a particularly nice weekend on tap. ๐Ÿ˜ž Saturday, rain likely, possibly mixed with snow, becoming all rain after 8am. Cloudy, with a high near 40. Chance of precipitation is 70%. Sunday, a chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 47. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Typical average high for the weekend is 49 degrees.

I was hoping that the upcoming weekend would be warm and sunny โ›บ for camping at Rennselearville State Forest but I don’t think it’s likely. I was figuring the fire risk would be low if there is snow on the ground. The fire ban applies only to brush burning not campfires kept small and in eye sight. ๐Ÿ”ฅ

Looking ahead, next Tuesday is Average High is 50 ๐ŸŒธ when the sun will be setting at 7:17 pm with dusk at 7:44 pm. On that day in 2022, we had cold weather, partly cloudy skies and temperatures between 27 and 18 degrees. Debbie downer. We hit a record high of 85 back in 1945.

March 20, 2023 7 AM Update

Good morning! Spring has come back around again. Well maybe not for another 11 hours though it will feel spring like later. Don’t do stupid shit in the mean time. Clear and 24 degrees for the morning walk in Delmar. ๐ŸŒ… There is a south breeze at 6 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. Things will start to thaw out at around 9 am. ๐ŸŒก๏ธ

Cold but clear start to the morning. ๐ŸŒ… I was not impressed when the heat kicked on when I got up. I know it’s cold this morning but the thermostat can’t read the forecast. I still haven’t gotten the February bill yet for gas and electric, I’m thinking ๐Ÿ’ญ it was delayed because of the weather delaying the meter read but I’m curious about it and will have to check the website. I turned off the heat for hopefully the rest of the year. I like it cold but if it gets well below freezing I’ll have to turn it back up. Pretty morning being so clear with the sun rising. And soon it will be fairly warm out.

Today will be sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 53 degrees at 4pm. Six degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around April 2nd. South wind 6 to 16 mph becoming west in the afternoon. I don’t know about you but I look forward to the sunshine ๐Ÿธ and the April like weather. And knowing that we are like a week and a half from this being the normal weather. By the number of red winged black birds around its a sign of what is to come. No spring peepers but I know it won’t be that far in the future ๐Ÿ”ฎ.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 1:04 pm with sun having an altitude of 47.2ยฐ from the due south horizon (-23.7ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 5.6 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 6:30 pm with the sun in the west (264ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ

March 16, 2023 Morning

Good morning! Happy Thursday. Mostly clear and 25 degrees ๐ŸŒƒ at the in Delmar, NY for morning walk. There is a northwest breeze at 10 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. There are 4 inches of snow on the ground. โ˜ƒ ๏ธThings will start to thaw out at around 10 am. ๐ŸŒก๏ธ

Out for the morning walk ๐Ÿšถ before sunrise at 6:25. But already it’s not super dark or cold. At least in the evening there was some light for the walk then. I didn’t get out walking last night until 7:15 pm because session dragged a little beyond 5 pm and I ended up catching the local home at 5:45. But there was still daylight. Cold โ„ day yesterday with the wind but already this morning is much nicer. Ton of black ice on the sidewalks this morning, caught myself a few times starting to fall. Last night wasn’t so bad.

Today will be mostly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 45 degrees at 5pm. Seems warm and nice. Just typical for today. West wind 7 to 9 mph. A year ago, we had cloudy skies in the morning with more sun in the afternoon. The high last year was 60 degrees. The record high of 82 was set in 1990. 13.4 inches of snow fell back in 1956.โ„

While there is quite a bit of snow around โ˜บ it should be a good day. Probably won’t be able to go to the park this evening but I’m hoping to get out walking ๐Ÿšถ in the daylight hours. Session day ๐Ÿ•ด๏ธbut a get away day so hopefully they’ll bang through the budget reso and I’ll be able to take the express home. Then a quick dinner – I have several options I’ve frozen over the past few weeks. ๐Ÿฒ I actually did a small bowl of pasta last night because I wanted to finish off the open container of pasta sauce that was getting old and I didn’t want to go bad.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 1:05 pm with sun having an altitude of 45.6ยฐ from the due south horizon (-25.2ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 5.9 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 6:26 pm with the sun in the west (262ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west (269ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 7:03 pm after setting for 2 minutes and 54 seconds with dusk around 7:30 pm, which is one minute and 10 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 8:04 pm. At sunset, look for partly cloudy skies ๐ŸŒƒ and temperatures around 41 degrees. There will be a west breeze at 6 mph. Tomorrow will have 12 hours and 2 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 54 seconds over today.

Tonight will be mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฅ, with a low of 32 degrees at 2am. Six degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around April 2nd. The record low of -1 occurred back in 1916.

On the bus ride home I overheard somebody say one of my clients had passed ๐Ÿ‘ฅ, I was thinking not another one as I think half of my clients have come and gone over the years. He was one of the good ones not that I necessarily agree with his politics but he’s good for his district. The thing about it, it’s not true. ๐ŸคฅThe Republican who was talking had no idea what she was talking about. The buses ๐Ÿš are good place to hear rumors in Albany but not all of them are true. ๐Ÿ’ญ

Cool this weekend with temperatures running 9 degrees below normal but otherwise sunny. ๐Ÿ˜ƒ Saturday, mostly sunny, with a high near 41. West wind 10 to 13 mph. Sunday, partly sunny, with a high near 33. Breezy. Typical average high for the weekend is 46 degrees.

Out walking right at 6:15 AM this morning โ›… and it’s a partly cloudy, somewhat gray morning for sure. Clearing somewhat, but certainly cool with the breeze. But I’m out and getting my steps in this morning. ๐Ÿ‘ฃ Only 3 more days and I will have dun 50 days of 10,000 steps or more, with many of those days being closer to 20,000 then 10,000. Going to be a cold day today. ๐ŸŒฌ๏ธ I guess we are still in the lion ๐Ÿฆ stage of March though I will note that on March 9, 2016 it was 82 degrees fit at least a few minutes. There is hope, every minute we tick closer to April. ๐ŸŒท

Back in 1965, Bloody Sunday: a group of 600 civil rights marchers is brutally attacked by state and local police in Selma, Alabama. ๐Ÿคœ ๐Ÿ‘ฎ Have we made much progress? It’s mostly a lie. We’ve not made the progress on Civil Rights that the politicians claim.
