January 9, 2023 Night

Good evening! Mostly cloudy and 31 degrees in Delmar for my evening walk. โ˜ Calm wind. Things will start to thaw out at tomorrow around noontime. ๐ŸŒก๏ธ

Monday’s almost Done. Not a bad evening walk, not real cold no ice but the moon hasn’t risen enough to be visible on the horizon. Windy late but a fairly mild night by January standards.

Tonight will be cloudy โ˜, with a low of 29 degrees at 8pm. 12 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around March 24th. Maximum wind chill around 28 at 8pm; Light west wind increasing to 6 to 11 mph in the evening. Winds could gust as high as 21 mph. In 2022, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 16 degrees. The record low of -13 occurred back in 1968. Back when it used to be a lot colder in winter.

I finally got that mouse trap I ordered a week and a half ago. ๐Ÿ I am as excited as a pig in shit about that. Finally got one of those Rinne bucket traps you snap on a five gallon bucket full of water ๐Ÿ’ฆ and they fall in, the peanut butter ๐Ÿฅœ flap drops and they drown. Their popular with farmers and snake owners as they can catch several mice in a night and they don’t involve toxic chemicals and can be used indefinitely. I figure just dump the buckets in the woods out back and it’s clean food for predators. Been waiting for a long time for the trap and I’ve not had a lot of luck lately with the spring traps or sticky traps. Both worked for a while till they stopped. I’m just annoyed the mouse chewed through the hole I patched a few years back.

Tonight will have a Waining Gibbous ๐ŸŒ– Moon with 91% illuminated. At 8 PM, the moon was in the east-northeast (72ยฐ) at an altitude of 7ยฐ from the horizon, some 251,000 miles away from where you are looking up from the earth. ๐Ÿš€ At the state speed limit of 55 mph, you’ll make it there by July 19th. Buckle up for safety! ๐Ÿ’บ The Wolf ๐Ÿบ Moon is on Wednesday, January 25. The darkest hour is at 12:03 am, followed by dawn at 6:54 am, and sun starting to rise at 7:26 am in the east-southeast (120ยฐ) and last for 3 minutes and 21 seconds. Sunrise is 13 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ The golden hour ends at 8:10 am with sun in the southeast (128ยฐ). Tonight will have 14 hours and 41 minutes of darkness, a decrease of one minute and 18 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will be partly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 37 degrees at 1pm. Four degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around February 18th. West wind 6 to 11 mph, with gusts as high as 22 mph. A year ago, we had light freezing rain in the morning with more sun in the afternoon. The high last year was 32 degrees. The record high of 55 was set in 2016. 7.3 inches of snow fell back in 1984.โ„

Tomorrow is the State of the State Address. ๐ŸŽค If there was ever a day I avoid the Capitol or Empire State Plaza that would be it. I’m not sure how many protestors there will be this year but I’m quite comfortable watching them from the window of my office ๐Ÿข. When I take the local in the bus ๐Ÿš drops me two feet from the Alfred E Smith building where I work and I can slip in and upstairs without the craziness.

I sent the state a $250 estimated tax payment for Q4 of last year. ๐Ÿ’ธ With work and everything else I missed my Q3 payment though I should be good as I usually only average about $1,200 a year in taxable dividends. It always angered me a lot to have to take money ๐Ÿ’ต out of my pocket to cover dividends I’m reinvesting and not taking but I was doing the numbers the other day how important reinvesting dividends is to a secure future. ๐ŸŒŽ That said, I probably should have paid estimated taxes to the fed as I’ll probably owe but those limits aren’t as tight. I think my taxable income will still be low enough this year to free file ๐Ÿ“‚ which is nice.

In four weeks on February 6 the sun will be setting in the west-southwest (250ยฐ) at 5:16 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 34 minutes and 42 seconds later then tonight. Foamy Lechate Leaking Off the Landfill

January 8, 2023 Night

Good evening! Mostly clear and 26 degrees during my moon lit evening walk here in Delmar. ๐ŸŒ– Calm wind.Things will start to thaw out at tomorrow around 10 am. ๐ŸŒก๏ธ

I was going to stay home this evening after walking about ten miles today ๐Ÿšถ but with the weeks schedule ahead and the moonlit night I decided to go out and walk this evening. Making good progress on breaking in the boots, they’re pretty comfortable now ๐Ÿ‘ข but I figured give them a rest and then do my evening walk with the old ones. I’m really trying to maximize them as much as possible with inflation.

Walked out to Five Rivers Environmental Education Center ๐Ÿธ in the morning, then visited John Wolcott up in Colonie for a few hours and then stopped at Colonie Center Maul to look for reasonably priced dress shirts. First time I’ve been into a shopping maul since the pandemic. I looked at Boscov’s first but ended up at Macy’s. ๐Ÿ‘จ๐Ÿป‍๐Ÿ’ผ They didn’t have a lot reasonably priced. I did find one I liked ultimately. That said, I think I’m going to take a risk order online next time from like Amazon or Ebay take the risk and if I find something I like order more.

I felt so out of place at the Maul. ๐Ÿ‘จ‍๐Ÿ’ผ Especially those fancy department stores like Macy’s and Boscovs. I liked the old Sears better, but truth be told, I’d rather be in the woods ๐ŸŒฒ or a barnyard ๐Ÿฎ then any maul. The whole maul environment seems so oppressive, with so much future garbage on shelves. ๐Ÿ—‘ I guess people need stuff and want fancy things for their suburbanite homes, but I can’t imagine spending money on half the things they sell at mauls. ๐Ÿšœ Of course, that’s why on Facebook I look at farm tractors and implements so much lately. But at least they’re not all shiny and fancy. ๐Ÿš The more time I spend in suburbia the more I want to have my off-grid homestead, as simple as possible. Maybe even no electricity. ๐Ÿ“บ Don’t get me started on the television.

Later on I did an evening hike in the Pine Bush ๐ŸŒฒas it got darker out. The crowds thinned out before dusk, I did the loop from the Discovery Center past the landfills. I really don’t get up to the Pine Bush as much as I should but I don’t like driving ๐Ÿš˜ and try to avoid the city as much as possible. I would and probably should visit John more too but like the Pine Bush I really avoid the city as much as possible. Northway traffic is so heavy. Then I picked up a few more groceries I forgot at the store ๐Ÿฌ on Friday. Should be good for the week now.

Tonight will have increasing clouds โ˜, with a low of 21 degrees at 1am. Four degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around February 26th. Calm wind. The record high of 62 was set in 2008. 9.9 inches of snow fell back in 1953.

Back to the grind tomorrow. ๐Ÿ‘จ๐Ÿป‍๐Ÿ’ผGot to make that money ๐Ÿ’ต for a better tomorrow. Like walking ๐Ÿšถ it’s one step at a time, learning, thinking and becoming a better person. it’s one way closer to fifty. Money is a key part of Mission Fifty, but there is so much I can do learn and become better also over the upcoming decade. Soft skills can make it easier to succeed beyond age 50, provide income and so many other benefits — and they are as key to Mission Fifty as saving and earning in the mean-time. ๐Ÿ‘จ‍๐Ÿซ When that day comes in 2023, the adventure is really just starting, but the next ten years, on the mission gives me a change to develop who I want to me as I undertake whatever my goals are to be implemented with Mission Fifty. Skills, life experience, are equally as important as money as I look to the next ten years. ๐Ÿ“ˆ

Close the City Dump

January 7, 2023 Evening

Good evening! Mostly clear and 34 degrees in Delmar, NY. There is a northwest breeze at 13 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. It got cold out once again with the wind though needless to say it’s more like early March than January.

Moms 75th birthday party was fun ๐ŸŽ‚ we had it at a Mexican restaurant in Saratoga. I find it hard to believe my mom is 75 and I’m going on forty in a few weeks, though my focus is entirely on Mission Fifty. I don’t think she appreciated when I pointed out at this point I was more focused on my fiftieth birthday than 40. But time goes by so quickly as an adult ๐Ÿ‘จ๐Ÿปโ€๐Ÿ’ผ. Been five years already since I’ve been too old to be a Young Democrat. Where does time go? It’s always nice to spend time with mom. ๐Ÿคถ Never know if I’ll be able to join her for her 80th. Time is precious as it compounds.

But the more I think about it, the more Mission Fifty becomes what I think ๐Ÿค” about. Older people keep telling me I’m rushing my life and wasting time โณ but I’m really excited to think about where I could be in ten years if I maintain and build on my progress. While I’ve long known about the power of maintenance of effort, dividends and compounding – the brushing up on financial literacy textbooks and video – really reminds me how important it is in all parts of life from health to work skills to knowledge. Don’t overextend yourself and don’t sweat a down day but know things add up over a decade. I keep telling myself that this is the decade that will define so much of my remaining years and I should work every day to build ๐Ÿ—๏ธ towards Mission Fifty in all parts of my life.

Tonight will be partly cloudy ๐ŸŒƒ , with a low of 23 degrees at 4am. Six degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around March 5th. Northwest wind 8 to 13 mph. In 2022, we had partly cloudy skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 8 degrees. The record low of -18 occurred back in 1878.

Begrudgingly the heats back on and my thermostat is turned up to 50. Had to do it with freezing weather expected โ™จ and the inside temperature dropping into the forties. The main reason for heat inside in my view is to keep the pipes from freezing. I kind of admire those who live without running water in their households as they don’t have to waste so much energy on heat especially when they’re not home. I really hate modern life, I look forward to the day I can live a simpler life.

Tonight will have a Full ๐ŸŒ Moon with 98% illuminated. At 7 PM, the moon was in the east-northeast (71ยฐ) at an altitude of 17ยฐ from the horizon, some 252,270 miles away from where you are looking up from the earth. ๐Ÿš€ At the state speed limit of 55 mph, you’ll make it there by July 18th. Good evening! Mostly cloudy and 37 degrees in Delmar. โ˜ There is a northwest breeze at 7 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. Temperatures will drop below freezing at tomorrow around 7 pm. โ˜ƒ๏ธ

It’s a nice evening ๐ŸŒƒ for me evening walk after a rainy start to the day. I’m wearing my old boots ๐Ÿ‘ข as my new ones are bothering my ankle in part because they’re not broke in. I got the higher ankle boots to protect my ankles but they’ve not worked out good. I’m hopeful though. I will wear them to work on non session days but keep my old boots for walking around town until they are fully broke in.

Christmas Party ๐ŸŽ‰ at work was good, but odd with the holidays come and gone and people busy with session things. The bananas ๐ŸŒand oranges ๐ŸŠI brought went quick but I brought much too much milk ๐Ÿฅ›. I kept the extra milk in the fridge and brought it home and froze it. I’ll thaw it when I run out of milk. It’s odd as the last holiday party was pre COVID but I still wore my muzzle ๐Ÿ˜ท during most of the party. I was thinking with all that spare milk I need hogs. ๐Ÿฝ Maybe some day. But first my investments have to grow.

The record high of 56 was set in 1915. 7.2 inches of snow fell back in 1994.โ„

I decided against turning the heat on tonight โ™จ as it’s not going to be super cold but I can see the writing on the wall – I’ll need at least a little heat come tomorrow. Still January. The warm weather pattern is breaking down thought still going to be relatively warm by historical standards. I just can’t wait until it’s warm enough to have the windows open ๐Ÿ”ฒ for the summer season and it’s easier sleep. ๐Ÿ› That said, I do better going to bed before nine most days.

In four weeks on February 3 the sun will be setting in the west-southwest (248ยฐ) at 5:12 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 33 minutes and 50 seconds later then tonight. The record high of 57 degrees was set back in 2016.

I was looking at the January 6th memes on Facebook ๐Ÿคœ thinking what a tragedy the whole thing was all together. So many lives and families ruined for the sake of stupid politics. People who chose a life in politics often loose their lives and their freedom in America ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ. We like to pretend that’s not true but I would argue that those who die for their country without pay or benefits are the true American heros. While I think the whole rigged election thing was sham – Biden won fairly under the various state and federal rules in effect in 2020 – you got to respect anyone who raises their voice based on their convictions. But I would argue personal and family well being is far more important than the country as a whole. Making money ๐Ÿ’ต to put food on the table ๐Ÿฆƒ is more important than any ideological belief you may have.

Addison County Vermont

January 6, 2023 Morning

Good morning! Yeah, it’s Friday! A January 6th, holiday party day at work. I skipped my morning walk ๐Ÿ‘ฃ due to the rain and my ankle being sore from the new boots ๐Ÿฅพ and because I need to go to the store and get milk, bananas and fruit for the holiday party.

Rainy start to the day, and 39 degrees at the Delmar, NY. โ˜” Calm wind. Temperatures will drop below freezing at tomorrow around 8 pm. โ˜ƒ๏ธ

Shopping ๐Ÿ›’ first this morning and then I’ll catch the electric bus ๐Ÿš โšก downtown. I swear the electric buses are always the hottest buses to ride, which isn’t great for bringing milk on ๐Ÿฅ› but I think it will be okay. I thought they used diesel heaters on the electric buses but it turns out to be all just heat pumps moving waste heat and resistance heating. They keep adding more and more electric buses.

Today will rain, mainly before noon. ๐ŸŒง High of 40 degrees at 4pm. Seven degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around February 28th. Light and variable wind. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible. A year ago, we had cloudy skies. The high last year was 36 degrees. The record high of 71 was set in 2007. 12.7 inches of snow fell back in 2002.โ„

I keep penciling โœ in my ideas for Mission Fifty, my plans for my life at age 50 and how to get there. I have been doing a lot of research into financial literacy and how to make a better budget and minimizing expenses on things that really don’t bring you joy. ๐Ÿ’ต Mission Fifty isn’t primarily about money but having adequate resources and spending them in ways that is meaningful to you is key to living a good life. ๐Ÿšœ I’m in a position where I can turn my life around if I only do the right thing for myself and don’t get distracted by silliness like consumerism and politics, the two things that destroy so many lives – things we should remember on this January 6th, a day when thousands of lives were tragically sacrificed for politics. ๐Ÿ˜”

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:02 pm with sun having an altitude of 24.9ยฐ from the due south horizon (-46ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 12.9 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 3:52 pm with the sun in the southwest (232ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-southwest (240ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 4:37 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 22 seconds with dusk around 5:08 pm, which is 59 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the Full ๐ŸŒ Moon in the east-northeast (61ยฐ) at an altitude of 9ยฐ from the horizon, 251,819 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 5:44 pm. At sunset, look for rain ๐ŸŒง and temperatures around 40 degrees. There will be a calm wind. Today will have 9 hours and 15 minutes of daytime, an increase of one minute and 5 seconds over yesterday.

I am hopeful that it will clear out for the evening ๐ŸŒƒ walk. Assuming that I can do it with my ankle being such a sore mess. I also need to go shopping ๐Ÿ›’ this evening – I’ll do it after work as I’m parked ๐Ÿ…ฟ at the Park and Ride. Then my pantry will be set for a while.

Tonight will be mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฅ, with a low of 32 degrees at 5am. 15 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around April 2nd. Northwest wind around 6 mph becoming calm in the evening. In 2022, we had cloudy skies in the evening, which became light snow by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 16 degrees. The record low of -12 occurred back in 1878.

Tomorrow will be mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฅ, with a high of 40 degrees at 12pm. Seven degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around February 28th. Light west wind becoming northwest 5 to 9 mph in the morning. A year ago, we had cloudy skies. The high last year was 31 degrees. The record high of 56 was set in 1915. 7.2 inches of snow fell back in 1994.โ„

Tomorrow is Mom’s 75th birthday ๐ŸŽ‚ party up in Saratoga so I’ll be joining them for that. I want to get my steps ๐Ÿ‘ฃ in and also I’m doing some demographic research on voting patterns that I’m interested and will likely go down to the library ๐Ÿ“š for that and to return books.

Looking ahead to Sunday, sunny, with a high near 36. โ˜€ Northwest wind around 6 mph becoming calm in the morning. Typical average high for the weekend is 33 degrees.

Sunday I’m going to try Macy’s and Boscov’s and try to get two more dress shirts ๐Ÿ‘จ๐Ÿปโ€๐Ÿ’ผ for work and then visit John Wolcott mid day and the Pine Bush ๐ŸŒฒ in the afternoon. Some point I also need to go to the laundromat maybe Sunday evening or Monday after work.

As previously noted, next Friday is Make Your Dream Come True Day ๐Ÿก when the sun will be setting at 4:46 pm with dusk at 5:15 pm. On that day in 2022, we had partly cloudy and temperatures between 39 and 25 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 33 degrees. We hit a record high of 71 back in 1932.

I don’t know it feels warmer than that in the land of the Delmaritian โ™จ but certainly darker than that. It will certainly be colder than that by the weekend but still above average. I figure they’re saving the really cold weather for my birthday ๐ŸŽ‚. It won’t be forty out when I turn 40.

Today will have a chance of rain, mainly before 7am. Cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a high of 47 degrees at 12pm. 14 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around March 20th. Calm wind becoming south around 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning, remaining cloudy in the afternoon. The high last year was 38 degrees. The record high of 64 was set in 1950. 8.0 inches of snow fell back in 1891.โ„

I failed to go for my evening walk ๐Ÿšถ. I was bad, a failure and a looser. So at six o’clock I had to go to Stewart’s and get milk ๐Ÿฅ› so I’d have it for the all important coffee โ˜• and bisquick biscuits with cheese ๐Ÿง€. All the essentials in the dairy world. And you wonder why I’m so fat. I am out for my morning walk ๐Ÿšถ now so hopefully once again I’ll get my steps ๐Ÿ‘ฃ in. Still breaking in the boots ๐Ÿ‘ข.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:01 pm with sun having an altitude of 24.8ยฐ from the due south horizon (-46.1ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 13 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 3:51 pm with the sun in the southwest (232ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-southwest (239ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 4:36 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 22 seconds with dusk around 5:07 pm, which is 57 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡

At dusk you’ll see the Full ๐ŸŒ Moon in the east-northeast (68ยฐ) at an altitude of 17ยฐ from the horizon, 250,725 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 5:44 pm. At sunset, look for cloudy skies โ˜ and temperatures around 46 degrees. There will be a calm wind. Tomorrow will have 9 hours and 15 minutes of daytime, an increase of one minute and 4 seconds over today.

Took care of the dentist bill ๐Ÿฆท I got yesterday. Last summer my insurer sent me a check for the “out-of-network” visit because my dentist screwed up the paperwork. I set the check I got aside ๐Ÿ“Ž and then waited to hear from the dentist. The bill was the same as the check, so I just online paid my dentist and deposited the check. I thought about getting the SEFCU app and doing a mobile deposit, but I don’t trust my phone is secure, ๐Ÿ“ฑ that is compared to my computer that is offline a lot of time, and I keep up to date with Linux security updates.

Tomorrow is the rescheduled holiday party at work ๐Ÿช ๐ŸŽ„ so I’m going to need to get to the store ๐Ÿฌ tonight. Been running low on groceries for a while as I did only a quick shop last week after washing my truck and returning the shit ton of beer cans that had been accumulating since spring. โ™ป

Tonight will have a slight chance of rain before 7pm, then a chance of showers between 7pm and 4am, then a chance of rain after 4am. Cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 36 degrees at 6am. 19 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around April 12th. Calm wind. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. In 2022, we had cloudy skies. It got down to 26 degrees. The record low of -19 occurred back in 1996.

The weekend has slid down hill somewhat since earlier this week. ๐Ÿ˜• Saturday, a slight chance of rain and snow showers before 11am, then a slight chance of rain showers between 11am and 1pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 40. West wind 5 to 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. Sunday, mostly sunny, with a high near 36. But still quiet mild. Typical average high for the weekend is 33 degrees.

Saturday I plan to join my mom at her birthday party ๐ŸŽ‚ and then Sunday I am going up to Colonie to find some more dress shirts ๐Ÿ•ด and also to visit John Wolcott. I had planned on getting a dress shirt online but it’s so hard to know what size to order and it just seems like ordering online is such a gamble. I did some looking though, and maybe I should just take the risk and order one online. Sears is closed now, but I was reading online that Boscovs and Macys also sell dress shirts, and I can try one out there. I don”t want to spend a lot of money, but I do want comfortable button down collar shirts I can wear with a tie and sport-coat for work. ๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿ’ผ Can’t totally look like a hillbilly on session days. ๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐ŸŒพ

Looking ahead, next Thursday is Coldest Day Recorded in Albany ๐Ÿ’จ when the sun will be setting at 4:45 pm with dusk at 5:14 pm. On that day in 2022, we had partly cloudy and temperatures between 31 and 6 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 33 degrees. We hit a record high of 67 back in 2020. I think it’s likely we will be closer to the 2020 record then that one from 1970 but only will tell.
