January 25, 2023 Morning

Good morning! Already Wednesday or maybe the week is going too slow. Farmers Market Day, maybe I will get some apples ๐Ÿ to have in my office.

Mostly cloudy and 27 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜ Calm wind. There are 7 inches of snow on the ground. โ˜ƒ Just remember that number come tomorrow. ๏ธThings will start to thaw out at around 10 am. ๐ŸŒก๏ธ

Nice morning before the snow storm ๐ŸŒจ though kind of gray. But the mornings aren’t as dark as they were only a few weeks ago, and to boot I was out walking before 6:45. The skies to the southeast are very firery red. ๐ŸŒ…

Been trying to get out earlier for my morning walk ๐Ÿšถ which the lighter breakfasts and less procrastination help a lot at that. I may also push back my first alarm โฐ to 5:45 am so I have more time to fool around before getting out of bed ๐Ÿ›.

Today will snow. The snow could be heavy at times. ๐ŸŒจ High of 33 degrees at 11am. Two degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around February 4th. Light south wind becoming southeast 8 to 13 mph in the morning. Chance of precipitation is 100%. Total daytime snow accumulation of 2 to 4 inches possible. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 29 degrees. The record high of 61 was set in 1938. 9.5 inches of snow fell back in 2000.โ„

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:08 pm with sun having an altitude of 28.4ยฐ from the due south horizon (-42.4ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 11.1 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 4:17 pm with the sun in the west-southwest (237ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-southwest (245ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 4:59 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 13 seconds with dusk around 5:29 pm, which is one minute and 17 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the First Quarter ๐ŸŒ“ Moon in the southwest (215ยฐ) at an altitude of 38ยฐ from the horizon, 231,506 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 6:04 pm. At sunset, look for snow ๐ŸŒจ and temperatures around 32 degrees. There will be a southeast breeze at 14 mph. Tomorrow will have 9 hours and 48 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 8 seconds over today.

Cynthia Pooler of Focus on Albany fame ๐ŸŽค was going to have a fundraiser and recording sessio for her documentary on Reszin Adams but with the snow storm coming and the fact it’s all the way out in Colonie and no where near a bus stop ๐Ÿšmakes me think that it’s best to mail โœ‰ a check. If it had been in Albany I probably would have gone even if it was snowy, but I’m not driving in this crap or walking in a blizzard and suit and tie in the automobile ghetto.

Tonight will rain and snow before midnight, then a chance of rain between midnight and 1am, then a slight chance of rain showers after 1am. ๐ŸŒง Low of 32 degrees at 6pm. 16 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around March 30th. Southeast wind 12 to 17 mph becoming light and variable after midnight. Winds could gust as high as 29 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New snow accumulation of less than one inch possible. In 2022, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 15 degrees. The record low of -17 occurred back in 1920.

I am not really sure what to expect about the snow storm. โ˜” It’s probably going to be an elevation storm but lately a lot of people are saying more snow. I still am considering camping for my 40th birthday ๐ŸŽ‚ but Friday looks cold and there might be a ton of heavy wet snow to shovel out a parking ๐Ÿ…ฟ spot.

NOAA is still saying more clouds for the weekend. โ˜๏ธ But mild so the snow won’t stick around in any quantity. Saturday, mostly cloudy, with a high near 40. Sunday, a chance of rain and snow after 1pm. Cloudy, with a high near 38. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Typical average high for the weekend is 33 degrees.

As previously noted, next Wednesday is February ๐ŸŒง when the sun will be setting at 5:09 pm with dusk at 5:38 pm. On that day in 2022, we had snow and temperatures between 25 and 10 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 33 degrees. We hit a record high of 65 back in 1989.

January 24, 2023 Morning

Good morning! Happy Tuesday. Rise and grind on this Tuesday. I don’t know but I think thr synchronousizer is a bit worn out on second gear. โš™ I woke up and was like darn still only Tuesday, let’s git r dun.

Mostly cloudy with some clearing to the south at the freezing point. ๐ŸŒฅ There is a light southwest breeze at 3 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. There are 7 inches of snow on the ground. โ˜ƒ ๏ธThings will start to thaw out at around 9 am. ๐ŸŒก๏ธ

Nice morning today especially to the south ๐ŸŒ…, with lots of red. I was actually out walking ๐Ÿšถ before 6:45 which is unusual for me on these dark mornings but it helped that I had the left over pancakes ๐Ÿฅž and sausage and coffee โ˜• from yesterday that I could just reheat. Fewer calories, time saved, and less trash – what’s not to like?

That said, I think I’m going to put a fruit bowl ๐Ÿ ๐Ÿ in my office so mid-morning if I’m hungry or feeling a bit light headed I can have a bit to eat. One of the reasons I’ve been doing the big breakfasts – besides availability and not wanting to waste ๐Ÿ—‘ – is sometimes I feel light headed by lunch time. I can always keep an extra container to bring home the banana ๐ŸŒ peels and apple rins for compost.

The communications line the came down yesterday ๐Ÿ“ž still hasn’t been repaired. I assumed it was a copper cable line abandoned by the telephone company but it looks like fiber as there is no wires in the cable. I bet there are unhappy customers but it doesn’t impact me as the police officer ๐Ÿ‘ฎ tossed it off the road and sidewalk. I’ve noticed most of the underground ๐Ÿš‡ copper phone repeaters locally have been smashed and grabbed for their copper. Apparently Verizon doesn’t use them or care any more and copper is valuable as scrap. I guess it’s recycling โ™ป.

Today will be mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฅ, with a high of 37 degrees at 3pm. Five degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around February 18th. West wind 7 to 14 mph. A year ago, we had sunny skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. The high last year was 20 degrees. The record high of 54 was set in 1999. 7.6 inches of snow fell back in 1948.โ„

Ironing my muzzle and shirt ๐Ÿ•ด๏ธshowering ๐Ÿšฟ and it’s off to work. Probably another busy day ahead.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:08 pm with sun having an altitude of 28.1ยฐ from the due south horizon (-42.7ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 11.2 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 4:16 pm with the sun in the west-southwest (237ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-southwest (244ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 4:58 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 14 seconds with dusk around 5:28 pm, which is one minute and 16 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the Waxing Crescent ๐ŸŒ’ Moon in the southwest (223ยฐ) at an altitude of 27ยฐ from the horizon, 229,352 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 6:03 pm. At sunset, look for mostly cloudy skies โ˜ and temperatures around 36 degrees. There will be a west breeze at 11 mph. Tomorrow will have 9 hours and 46 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 6 seconds over today.

Tonight will be mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฅ, with a low of 20 degrees at 6am. Five degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around February 23rd. West wind 5 to 9 mph becoming light north after midnight. In 2022, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 5 degrees. The record low of -12 occurred back in 1963.

Going to snow ๐ŸŒจ again tomorrow but only an inch or two, so whatever the buses ๐Ÿš will be running. Probably won’t last for long especially with rain and warmer conditions expected come Thursday. Should help clean up the sidewalks the rain, assuming it doesn’t freeze up to black ice. Hopefully the town will plow again today and lay down some salt.

Cloudy and mild for the weekend. ๐ŸŒฅ Saturday, mostly cloudy, with a high near 40. Sunday, cloudy, with a high near 37. Typical average high for the weekend is 33 degrees. I’m still undecided about the weekend though I need to decide today if I can want a personal day come Friday m

Looking ahead, there are 3 weeks until Valentines Day โค๏ธ when the sun will be setting at 5:27 pm with dusk at 5:54 pm. On that day in 2022, we had mostly cloudy, snow showers and temperatures between 28 and 15 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 36 degrees. We hit a record high of 63 back in 1946.

January 23, 2023 Night

Good evening! Cloudy and 29 degrees in Delmar. โ›… Breezy, ๏ธ17 mph breeze from the northwest ๐ŸŒฌ . The current wind chill is 17. There are 8 inches of snow on the ground. โ˜ƒ ๏ธThings will start to thaw out at tomorrow around 9 am. ๐ŸŒก๏ธ

I’m surprised as anyone that we got as much snow ๐ŸŒจ as we did. It’s winter though but after being so mild and snow free since mid December it was kind of a shock ๐Ÿคฏ for a change. I thought it was going to be more of a rain event. At least I didn’t need my umbrella for the evening commute. I was fine leaving it home.

While there was some snow on the sidewalks and a few icy patches, they weren’t bad for the evening walk ๐Ÿšถ. Made pasta for dinner ๐Ÿฒ but I enforced the one bowl, eat only until I’m full rule and save the rest in the refrigerator. I won’t call it a diet but like everything with inflation I’m trying to tighten my belt. I don’t want to be cheap and miserable but I do want to build a good future ๐Ÿ”ฎ for myself in all aspects of life. 40 is such a critical age, to really set yourself on the right step to the future.

Dug out my truck and cleaned off the solar panel โ˜€ so things will get charged up hopefully starting tomorrow and I’ll be ready the next time I need to drive somewhere like the dentist on Friday or maybe sooner if I need groceries especially if I decide to go camping ๐Ÿ• for my birthday. You never know it might be fun, especially if there is snow for skiing.

Tonight will have a Waxing Crescent ๐ŸŒ’ Moon with 7% illuminated. The Snow โ„ Moon is on Sunday, February 5. The darkest hour is at 12:08 am, followed by dawn at 6:48 am, and sun starting to rise at 7:19 am in the east-southeast (116ยฐ) and last for 3 minutes and 14 seconds. Sunrise is 44 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ The golden hour ends at 8:02 am with sun in the east-southeast (124ยฐ). Tonight will have 14 hours and 16 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 2 minutes and 3 seconds over last night.

In four weeks on February 20 the sun will be setting in the west-southwest (256ยฐ) at 5:34 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 36 minutes and 22 seconds later then tonight. That’s it? Ugh. Although at least by then the evening commute won’t be so dark. In 2021 on that day, we had partly sunny skies and temperatures between 28 and 13 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 37 and 19 degrees. The record high of 66 degrees was set back in 1930.

Looking ahead, Save the Pine Bush Turns 45 ๐Ÿฆ‹ Next Monday, Presidents Day ๐Ÿ‘ด is in 4 weeks, 8 PM Dusk ๐ŸŒ† is in 11 weeks, May ๐Ÿ•Š is in 14 weeks, 8:30 PM Sunset ๏ธโ›ฑ๏ธ is in 19 weeks, Average High is 80 ๐Ÿ– is in 21 weeks, World Mosquito Day ๐Ÿž is in 30 weeks, Labor Day ๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿญ is in 32 weeks, September 11th ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ is in 33 weeks, 7 PM Sunset ๐ŸŒ† is in 34 weeks, Average Night Below Freezing ๐ŸŒŒ is in 42 weeks, Thanksgiving ๐Ÿฆƒ is in 10 months, Cyber Monday ๐Ÿ›๏ธ is in 44 weeks, First Sunday of Advent โœ๏ธ is in 45 weeks, Bake Cookies Day ๐Ÿช is in 47 weeks, Festivus ๐Ÿ– is in 11 months and Christmas ๐ŸŽ… is in 48 weeks.

Good morning! Snow and 32 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ„ There is a north breeze at 9 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. There are 3 inches of snow on the ground. โ˜ƒ ๏ธThings will start to thaw out at around 9 am. ๐ŸŒก๏ธ

Out for the morning walk ๐Ÿšถ, the snow is quite wet and sloppy. Sticking to my boots it’s would seem. Sidewalks are plowed which helps. But it’s still pretty wet and slushy. There was a either a telephone or cable line that came down on Elm Avenue this morning, there was already a police officer directing traffic around it, ๐Ÿšจ but I stayed well away from it, just because you never know how much voltage it could have. If it’s a telephone wire, it could be as much as 90 volts when ringing, and I don’t know how much voltage is used for cable lines, or if they are all fiber optic at this point. I don’t own a TV or have internet at home, so I don’t know what’s up and down. Kind of sucks for people though who plan to work from home.

Today will snow before 2pm, then rain and snow likely. ๐ŸŒง High of 35 degrees at 2pm. Four degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around February 14th. Northwest wind 9 to 11 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. Total daytime snow accumulation of 2 to 4 inches possible. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. The high last year was 24 degrees. The record high of 64 was set in 1906. 10.6 inches of snow fell back in 1963.โ„

Maybe it was mistake to leave my umbrella home. โ˜‚ I did plan on bringing it but I was already on my way down to the bus stop ๐Ÿš when I realized I didn’t pack it with my lunch. Not a big deal, but I am hoping the snow doesn’t turn to rain and it’s wet by evening. That said, it seems like it will be clearing as the day progresses. Another mild night ahead, which is good, because you know how much I love to pay for heat.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:08 pm with sun having an altitude of 27.9° from the due south horizon (-42.9° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 11.3 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 4:14 pm with the sun in the west-southwest (237°). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-southwest (244°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 4:57 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 14 seconds with dusk around 5:27 pm, which is one minute and 16 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the Waxing Crescent ๐ŸŒ’ Moon in the southwest (230°) at an altitude of 16° from the horizon, 227,713 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 6:02 pm. At sunset, look for a chance of rain, ๐ŸŒง and temperatures around 35 degrees. There will be a northwest breeze at 11 mph. Tomorrow will have 9 hours and 44 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 3 seconds over today.

I’ve decided to continue on my journey through more-mindful eating, ๐Ÿฝ which means eating only when I’m hungry and not stuffing my face when I’m already full. Walking is great, but it doesn’t necessary translate to lost weight, nor does it save money. If I try to be more careful on how much I eat, then I can stretch food further, ๐ŸŽ put more away in the freezer to eat a later date. Might not add up to a lot ๐Ÿ’ฐ but with inflation, you really have to stretch every dollar as far as it can go. Plus less food consumed means less food packaging to burn or take to the transfer station, which is better for the environment. ๐ŸŒŽ Kind of a win-win for a better tomorrow. Little things, done over a decade, can really add up. Worse thing is that it seems like the veggies and fruit get eaten up before I’m ready to shop, but I can buy more.

Tonight will be mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฅ, with a low of 27 degrees at 11pm. 12 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around March 18th. Maximum wind chill around 20 at 10pm; Northwest wind 8 to 14 mph. In 2022, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 6 degrees. The record low of -17 occurred back in 1948.

Maybe my fears of having to walk home in the rain with an umbrella are overblown. ๐ŸŒง That’s good, as it should be good for walking tonight, assuming the sidewalks aren’t too icy. I don’t know how late I’ll get home tonight, but I don’t think it will be super late.

Another mild and cloudy weekend ahead. โ˜๏ธ Saturday, mostly cloudy, with a high near 38. Sunday, mostly cloudy, with a high near 34. Typical average high for the weekend is 33 degrees. I would like to get out of town this weekend for Friday into the weekend, but I want to give it one more day to decide what my plans are for sure, as if looks cloudy I might hold off. ๐ŸŒฒ๐ŸŒฒ But it would be fun for my 40th birthday.

Looking ahead, there are 2 weeks until Save the Pine Bush Turns 43 ๐Ÿฆ‹ when the sun will be setting at 5:16 pm with dusk at 5:44 pm. On that day in 2022, we had mostly sunny and temperatures between 36 and 12 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 34 degrees. We hit a record high of 55 back in 1991.

Frozen Lake

January 22, 2023 Night

Good evening! Snow showers and 33 degrees in Delmar. โ„ Calm wind. There is a dusting of snow on the ground. โ˜ƒ

I went for my evening walk ๐Ÿšถ right after I got home from my parents house as I was sure it would rain this evening. But it looks like we got a dusting of snow ๐ŸŒจ though it didn’t really start until around 8. Still not much. Mom was pushing me to leave early after lunch due to the snow but it just kept getting pushed back in start time.

Tonight will snow. The snow could be heavy at times. ๐ŸŒจ Low of 31 degrees at 11pm. 16 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around March 30th. Calm wind becoming north around 6 mph after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 100%. Total nighttime snow accumulation of 3 to 5 inches possible. In 2022, we had light snow in the evening, which became partly cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 11 degrees. The record low of -20 occurred back in 1970.

It’s winter, it snows. ๐ŸŒจ Worse comes to worse I won’t be able to do my morning walk before work but that’s fine. Chances are that it won’t be that much snow and the sidewalk plows will be out early. Bus ๐Ÿš runs regardless. It’s nice living in the city.

Tonight will have a New ๐ŸŒš Moon with 2% illuminated. The Snow โ„ Moon is on Sunday, February 5. The darkest hour is at 12:08 am, followed by dawn at 6:49 am, and sun starting to rise at 7:19 am in the east-southeast (117ยฐ) and last for 3 minutes and 14 seconds. Sunrise is 43 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ The golden hour ends at 8:02 am with sun in the southeast (124ยฐ). Tonight will have 14 hours and 19 minutes of darkness, a decrease of one minute and 59 seconds over last night.

I’ve decided I’m going to try to become a more conscious eater, ๐Ÿฒ as I think my calorie intake is too high now that I’m getting older. I already eat a lot of veggies and fruits and I don’t do fast food but I’m guilty as anyone of stuffing my face when I get home from work. I often make up too much food and rather than freezing it I stuff my face. I do walk a lot and I want to be full but not to extent it makes me sick. Improving my physical health and losing a bit of weight needs to be part of Mission Fifty.

Tomorrow will snow before 2pm, then rain and snow likely. The snow could be heavy at times. ๐ŸŒง High of 35 degrees at 2pm. Three degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around February 9th. North wind 9 to 13 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New snow accumulation of 2 to 4 inches possible. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning with a few breaks of sun the afternoon. The high last year was 24 degrees. The record high of 64 was set in 1906. 10.6 inches of snow fell back in 1963.โ„

It’s going to be so mild that I can’t image the snow will cause too many problems. ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ I don’t think they’ll close the office downtown ๐Ÿข or that things will be that bad on the roads. I have my dress boots to wear with my suit and tie. Works well keeps my feet dry until I get into the office and put my comfortable loafers on. ๐Ÿ‘ž

In four weeks on February 19 the sun will be setting in the west-southwest (256ยฐ) at 5:33 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 36 minutes and 22 seconds later then tonight. In 2021 on that day, we had snow showers, mostly cloudy and temperatures between 28 and 19 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 37 and 19 degrees. The record high of 66 degrees was set back in 1981.

Looking ahead, 40th Birthday ๐ŸŽ‰ is Next Sunday, Daylight Savings Time ๐ŸŒ† is in 7 weeks, Last Day of Winter ๐Ÿ‚ is in 8 weeks, 7:30 PM Sunset ๐ŸŒ‡ is in 11 weeks, Average High is 60 ๐ŸŒท is in 12 weeks, Earth Day ๐ŸŒŽ is in 3 months, 8 PM Sunset ๐ŸŒ‡ is in 15 weeks, Mothers Day ๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€ is in 16 weeks, Fathers Day ๐Ÿ‘จ is in 20 weeks, Last Sunset After 8:30 PM ๐ŸŒ† is in 25 weeks, 6:30 Sunrise ๐ŸŒ‡ is in 33 weeks, Constitution Day ๐Ÿ“œ is in 34 weeks, Autumn ๐Ÿ‚ is in 8 months, October ๐ŸŽƒ is in 36 weeks, Average High is 65 ๐Ÿ‚ is in 37 weeks, 7:15 AM Sunrise โŒ›๏ธ is in 46 weeks, Days are Getting Longer โ˜€๏ธ is in 11 months and Christmas Eve ๐ŸŽ… is in 48 weeks.

Beaver Road

January 22, 2023 Morning

Good morning! Happy Sunday. Cloudy around the freezing point for the morning walk down to the town park this morning. โ˜ There is a south-southeast breeze at 6 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. There is a dusting of snow on the ground. โ˜ƒ The skies will clear tomorrow around 9 pm.

Another chilly, cold and gray day ๐ŸŒซ๏ธ. I think with the rain coming and all of the rain we’ve had lately it makes it extra cold. Maybe I’m just chilled through due to the heat being kept low where I live. But the calories burnt while walking ๐Ÿšถ should warm me up a bit.

I didn’t sleep well last night ๐Ÿ› mainly because I was in bed by seven 7โƒฃ because it was cold, dark and damp last night and had no reason to stay up later. Ended up waking up in the middle of the night and listening to podcasts under the warmth of the electric blanket. With inflation, I’d rather cut the lights early and keep the heat as low as possible.

Today will have a chance of rain after 5pm. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a high of 38 degrees at 1pm. Six degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around February 21st. South wind 6 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning with a few breaks of sun the afternoon. The high last year was 36 degrees. The record high of 62 was set in 1906. 12.9 inches of snow fell back in 1987.โ„

Usually I do Bennett Hill โ›ฐ on a Sunday but with the snow ๐ŸŒจ coming I think I want to try to get out to the folks house for Sunday lunch ๐Ÿฅฉ a bit earlier and it looks like there is a fair amount of snow out there. Might be difficult to get my steps ๐Ÿ‘ฃ in today without hiking the mountain or the evening walk. If it snows this evening then walking will be fine but I’m not sure if I will walk in the rain โ˜”.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:08 pm with sun having an altitude of 27.7ยฐ from the due south horizon (-43.1ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 11.4 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 4:13 pm with the sun in the west-southwest (236ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-southwest (244ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 4:56 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 15 seconds with dusk around 5:26 pm, which is one minute and 15 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the Waxing Crescent ๐ŸŒ’ Moon in the west-southwest (237ยฐ) at an altitude of 4ยฐ from the horizon, 226,674 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 6:01 pm. At sunset, look for cloudy skies โ˜ and temperatures around 38 degrees. There will be a south-southeast breeze at 10 mph. Today will have 9 hours and 40 minutes of daytime, an increase of one minute and 58 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will rain and snow. ๐ŸŒง Low of 31 degrees at 6am. 16 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around March 30th. South wind 5 to 8 mph becoming light and variable. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New snow accumulation of 2 to 4 inches possible. In 2022, we had light snow in the evening, which became partly cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 11 degrees. The record low of -20 occurred back in 1970.

Won’t impact me much even if we do get some snow ๐ŸŒจ. I got those dressy boots ๐Ÿ•ด๏ธthat I wear with my suit and tie. The bus ๐Ÿš will running. Maybe it will impact my morning walk but only if it’s rain not snow. Can’t control the weather only my attitude.

Next Sunday before dawn I will become a officially a quadragenarian. I figure the news loves to talk about octragenarians so I can use my proper prefix too. ๐ŸŽ‚ I’m actually thinking about taking a personal day on Friday after my dentist cleaning ๐Ÿชฅand heading out to the woods for two nights. โ›บ Depends on how much snow there is and how cold. I can always pop on remotely from camp to work on Friday afternoon if need be if things are busy.

So yes, next Sunday is 40th Birthday ๐ŸŽ‰ when the sun will be setting at 5:06 pm with dusk at 5:34 pm. On that day in 2022, we had very cold weather, partly sunny and temperatures between 14 and 0 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 33 degrees. We hit a record high of 54 back in 2002.

I can pour over spreadsheets and try to figure out everything for age 50 ๐Ÿค” but I know not all the answers are apparent now. But I know choices now are particularly important, as everything you do compounds as time goes by. I’m well aware of this being a decade of enormous change but it’s one I should embrace and do what is right for me. Browsing catalogues and learning is largely free so I should take advantage of it as much as possible. ๐Ÿง‘โ€๐Ÿซ Try to get out of my comfort zone more. Eat a little less.

The trend looks much colder for February โ„ but the good news is we are heading towards spring. We’ve had an exceptionally warm January and at some point the pattern had to change. Spring will arrive. ๐ŸŒท

Frozen Lake

January 20, 2023 Evening

Good evening! Made it through another work week. Clouds and 36 degrees for the evening walk here in Delmar. โ˜๏ธ I was going to go down to the library but in the days of unlimited data on my phone and since the pandemic my habits have changed. I’d rather just do my walk ๐Ÿšถ and retire to bed ๐Ÿ› early.

Truth is I’ve been listening to the Byrds Turn, Turn, Turn a lot today. ๐ŸŽธ I’m a bit saddened by the death of David Crosby but so died Chris Hillman or was it Roger McGuinn not all that long ago? They were the past generation but still a good song more than half a century later. We need more change and new ideas. Mr. Crosby was a character, Crosby Stills and Nash had some good songs and in many ways those album covers are life goals.

Tonight will have a slight chance of rain and snow showers before 1am, then a slight chance of snow showers between 1am and 2am. Chance of precipitation is 20%. In 2022, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became light snow by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 14 degrees. The record low of -18 occurred back in 1994.

I don’t think it was a bad week ๐Ÿข with memories of Madison County and the trip the was. Days go by quickly with things so busy. I’m glad I’ve remained healthy with so many out sick. Masks help as do avoiding the crowds. ๐Ÿ‘ช After spending the weekend winter camping I truly did feel like a husky in the heat of the indoors. ๐Ÿถ

Sounds like it will be a good day to hike out to Five Rivers. ๐Ÿฆ Maybe a bit sloppy but if I stay on the reinforced trails I think ๐Ÿค” I should be good. Nice thing is now is with the days getting longer I have more time in the afternoon and the Fisher Trail with the sidewalks avoids the narrow shoulders at dusk.
