July 3, 2019 Morning

Good morning! What day is it? Get Away Day before Independence Day, of course. Four weeks to Teeth Cleaning Day ๐Ÿ˜ƒ. I figure that way I’ll remember the appointment. Partly sunny and 68 degrees at the Elm Ave Park & Ride – CDTA. That said, the driver ain’t waiting, she left the station ๐Ÿš‰ a minute early, dropped the hammer ๐Ÿ”จ at the green light ๐Ÿšฆ and has powered through at least one red light. Must be her last trip of the day. Calm wind. The dew point is 64 degrees. Hot and humid.

That said maybe she was flying โœˆ because she knew how bad the traffic would be in the Empire State Plaza. ๐Ÿš•๐Ÿš“๐Ÿš—๐Ÿš๐ŸšŒ Things are so pokey this morning. With the traffic delays going through I’m kind of glad I didn’t drive in, as it’s a lot more fun to be blogging on my phone, sitting on the air conditioned bus then wrangling my way through bumper to bumper traffic. I’m sure I’ll have my share to deal with this afternoon.

Things are packed except for the cooler and the propane but I’ll get those things after work and be off by six or maybe earlier if they close the office down early. ๐Ÿข I expect a slow commute for the first half hour but the air conditioning works well in the truck and it’s not like it gets real dark until like 9:15 pm or later in the Adirondacks this time of year. Google Maps estimates with traffic, I’ll be to Wakely Dam by 8:40. ๐ŸŒ„

I expect it will be a nice weekend at Moose River Plains, but certainly a hot one too. I heard it was going to be buggy, ๐Ÿœso I bought a container of DEET, Picardin and Oil of Eucalyptus insect repellents. All but the Picardin came in plastic spray bottles, which is handy for when they run out — don’t have to save and bring to transfer station. Hopefully that will control the bugs well.

I am bringing the kayak, as one night I’ll probably take it out on Helldiver Pond for some evening fishing and enjoying the sunset. ๐ŸŽฃ I doubt I’ll go out on Cedar River Flow this year, but my mind could change. Or maybe I’ll take it out on one of Chain Lakes or even Moss Lake. I’m thinking of on Saturday doing the Stillwater Firetower — or maybe Sunday, it depends on what the weather looks like come Saturday and how soon the front come through.๐Ÿšถ

Today will be mostly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 89 degrees at 4pm. Seven degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 64 at 8am. Light north wind. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. It was humid. The high last year was 94 degrees. The record high of 102 was set in 1911. The real humidity builds on after I’m up in the Adirondacks.

The sun will set at 8:36 pm with dusk around 9:11 pm, which is 13 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At sunset, look for mostly clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 81 degrees. The dew point will be 62 degrees. There will be a calm wind. Today will have 15 hours and 13 minutes of daytime, an increase of 48 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be mostly clear ๐ŸŒƒ, with a low of 63 degrees at 5am. Two degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 62 at 8pm. Calm wind. In 2018, we had cloudy skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It became very sticky as the night progressed. It got down to 71 degrees. The record low of 44 occurred back in 1971.

On this day in 1886, the New-York Tribune becomes the first newspaper to use a linotype machine, ๐Ÿ’ป eliminating typesetting by hand โœ‹. I am pretty sure that like a computer only a little bit more primative. Now they probably use computers but not at Tribune because they don’t exist any more.

Independence Day will be sunny and hot, with a high near 91. โ˜€ Calm wind becoming southeast around 6 mph in the afternoon. Muggy as duck with dew points approaching or exceeding seventy. Even in Pennsylvania you can get a ticket for going that fast. I’m glad I’ll be up in the Adirondacks sipping and ice cold beer. ๐Ÿป I just hope that I won’t run out beer but they probably sell that in Inlet.

Friday starts the dog days of summer. ๐Ÿถ Hot and muggy. Scattered showers and thunderstorms after 2pm. โ˜€ Partly sunny, with a high near 89. South wind 7 to 11 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. Summer weather, with the muggers in full force.

Saturday looks pretty unstable but Sunday will be absolutely beautiful. ๐Ÿ˜• Saturday, showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm before 8am, then showers likely between 8am and noon, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after noon. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 85. Chance of precipitation is 60%. Maximum dew point of 72 at 10am.

Sunday, mostly sunny, with a high near 82. Maximum dew point of 60 at 6am. Typical average high for the weekend is 82 degrees. Sunday will be really nice, I should try to maximize the most of the day. I might do some hiking on one of the shorter trails along NY 28 south of Old Forge, as that’s the way I plan to come home.

Looking ahead, there are 4 weeks until *MY* Teeth Cleaning Day ๐Ÿ˜ƒ when the sun will be setting at 8:16 pm with dusk at 8:48 pm. On that day in 2018, we had partly sunny and temperatures between 86 and 67 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 82 degrees. We hit a record high of 98 back in 1917.

Saturday night

June 29, 2019 Night

Good evening! Partly clear and 72 degrees in Delmar, NY. There is a west-northwest breeze at 7 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 65 degrees. Kind of a hot day although it seems like the weather has moderated somewhat. The muggy weather ends tomorrow around noontime. ๐Ÿ˜“

Been a hot and fairly lazy day. Did some cleaning, ๐Ÿ›€ had a light breakfast and coffee โ˜•, watched some of the ag and off grid videos I downloaded, ๐Ÿ“น then spent quite a bit of time playing with the barometric pressure I got in the mail โœ‰ from Burma. Works great already been soldered on the board and it’s feeding information into the display including the current barometric pressure โ˜. Next step will be to add memory locations and compare to the trends so I can have messages warning about an approaching storm.

In the late afternoon I got a bunch of books ๐Ÿ“š out of the library to read through the holiday weekend. Then I came home, went to Henry Hudson Park on the river and spent some time reading. I though about fishing ๐ŸŽฃ but I decided against that. Bought groceries and had a late dinner of hot dogs. ๐Ÿฃ I also took a bunch of pictures of her my truck’s electrical set up that I shared on one of the Facebook groups I follow and will add them to the blog.

For a while I kind of wished I had headed out of town โ˜” but the forecast was so risky. I was thinking about Mine Kill Pool but I knew one clap of thunder โšก and that would be done. Plus I didn’t want to trapped in Schoharie County during severe weather and some of the storms around looked scary. Needless to say it was hot at home ๐Ÿก but no severe weather.

Tonight will be partly cloudy ๐ŸŒค, with a low of 64 degrees at 4am. Four degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 65 at 10pm. West wind 5 to 7 mph. In 2018, we had mostly clear skies. It was somewhat humid. It got down to 64 degrees. The record low of 47 occurred back in 1938.

Tonight will have a Waning Crescent Moon ๐ŸŒ˜ with 3% illuminated. The moon will rise at 3:33 am. The New Moon is on Monday night with partly cloudy skies. The Buck Moon ๐ŸŒ is on Monday, July 15th. The sun will rise at 5:20 am with the first light at 4:46 am, which is 28 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ Tonight will have 8 hours and 44 minutes of darkness, an increase of 34 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will have showers and thunderstorms likely, mainly between 1pm and 3pm. Some of the storms could produce small hail and gusty winds. Partly sunny , with a high of 74 degrees at 12pm. Seven degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around June 2nd. Maximum dew point of 62 at 6am. Northwest wind 8 to 17 mph, with gusts as high as 29 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. It was somewhat humid. The high last year was 94 degrees. The record high of 98 was set in 1964.

I got the puddy for repairing the table. ๐ŸŽจ I found some stuff that is rated for outdoor use and rain and I’m hopeful if I pack it in well under the top layer of the table it will stick. It was under $10 including the putty knife so it’s not a big investment. It either works or it doesn’t.

The plan for tomorrow is to puddy up the table in my bedroom ๐Ÿšง before I leave for the day and Sunday dinner at the parents house. This way I won’t have to smell the noxious chemicals and they’ll be able to dry up even if there is the threat of the rain โ˜”

Been doing a lot of reading the past two days. I finished reading ๐Ÿ“– Richard Hofstadter’s classic, The American Political Tradition from 1949, including the last chapter, “Franklin Roosevelt: The Patrician as Opportunist”. I had to read more so I got a different book out about FDR’s First 100 Days. Call FDR what you want – a pragmatist or an opportunist – but the truth is that he inspired a lot of people and reshaped the American government. Being up late yesterday with a book ๐Ÿ“™ is why I didn’t blog yesterday evening and in the morning I was hot and bothered.

I decided to leave from work on Wednesday and head up north to Moose Plains โ›บ right from work. Sun doesn’t set until late now so only the last part would involve driving after dark. Northway traffic will be bad but I’m not sure how bad as a lot of people leave early for the holiday weekend. I can drive safely. Maybe I will get to leave early too. I haven’t been up there since that warm late summer weekend in September 2017. Its a long trip up there and I kind of blame my broken shock absorber gasket or whatever you call it on those rough roads. ๐Ÿ˜ก But it’s a really nice big wilderness area and I like exploring. I can also plan hikes near camp so I’m not driving all day. The first night I’ll camp closer to the Cedar River Flow the head west to the plains for the following three nights. I guess I’ll bring my kayak as I might take it out on Helldiver Pond one evening and fish and toss back some of the tiny bulkheads that have become a nuisance in that lake. I’m not going to drive back over to Cedar River Flow as that’s too much of a time waste on those rough roads.

I thought about just going up to Piseco Powley Road if it’s going to be so hot ๐Ÿ”ฅ for time in the Potholers but decided I have the rest of the summer on hot weekends to get up there. Two years ago I was in the Potholers late September and it was in the mid 80s up there despite the leaves changing colors.

In four weeks on July 27 the sun will be setting at 8:20 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 16 minutes and 17 seconds earlier then tonight. In 2018 on that day, we had thunderstorm and temperatures between 86 and 68 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 82 and 62 degrees. The record high of 97 degrees was set back in 1955.

Looking ahead, Hottest Time of the Year ๐Ÿ˜… is in 2 weeks, Ugly Truck Day ๐Ÿšš is in 3 weeks, Average High Falls To 79 ๏ธDegrees โ›ฑ๏ธ๏ธ๏ธ is in 8 weeks and Average High 70 ๐ŸŽ‘ is in 12 weeks.

Copake Valley

May 23, 2019 Night

Good evening! There is a pretty good thunderstorm rolling through and 65 degrees in Delmar. โšก Not a lot of lightening here but lots of flashes to the north, some good gusts of breeze and rain. Raining hard enough to sound like a cow pissing. Breezy, ๏ธ16 mph breeze from the west-southwest ๐ŸŒฌ with gusts up to 28 mph ๐Ÿ’จ๐Ÿ’จ๐Ÿ’จ. The dew point is 58 degrees.

My truck is pretty much ready to go just the normal things to pack come morning. ๐ŸŽ’I went grocery shopping after work and then went to the Pine Bush meeting. Camp after work tomorrow in the Greens. โ›บ It would be nice if the bosses let us leave at 3 pm tomorrow but that’s probably unlikely although today was the slowest day at work in probably two months for me. Sexual harassment training was awful but I survived it. I treat women and my colleagues with respect, although I guess it’s good to have a refresher.

Tonight will have showers and thunderstorms likely before midnight, then a chance of showers between midnight and 1am. Partly cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 57 degrees at 5am. Seven degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around June 15th. Maximum dew point of 58 at 10pm. West wind around 17 mph, with gusts as high as 29 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. In 2018, we had mostly clear skies. It got down to 52 degrees. The record low of 29 occurred back in 1963.

Tonight will have a Waning Gibbous Moon ๐ŸŒ– with 64% illuminated with the moon rising at 12:43 am. The moon will rise at 1:00 am. The Last Quarter Moon is on Saturday night with scattered t-storms around. The Strawberry Moon ๐ŸŒ is on Sunday, June 16th. The sun will rise at 5:25 am with the first light at 4:52 am, which is 47 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ Tonight will have 9 hours and 5 minutes of darkness, a decrease of one minute and 40 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will have isolated showers after 1pm. Partly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 70 degrees at 3pm. Two degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around May 19th. Should be a nice day but watch for unstable weather in the evening. Maximum dew point of 52 at 2pm. Northwest wind around 18 mph, with gusts as high as 32 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 80 degrees. The record high of 92 was set in 1964.

It’s off to the Green Mountains ๐Ÿ—ป tomorrow. Maybe Branch Pond Road, maybe closer to Grout Pond or Forest Road 73. I’m thinking about hiking to Downer Glen or maybe Lye Brook Falls or maybe I’ll just hang out at camp. โ›บ I do want to camp somewhere I have a bit of space so I don’t have to worry about making too much noise. ๐Ÿ”Š

Memorial Day Weekend doesn’t look too bad. โ˜€ Just got to watch for thunderstorms and downpours on Saturday evening. Pretty good warm up come Sunday. Saturday, a chance of showers after 2pm. Mostly sunny, with a high near 73. Light south wind increasing to 8 to 13 mph in the morning. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. Maximum dew point of 55 at 9pm. Sunday, a chance of showers, with thunderstorms also possible after 8am. Partly sunny, with a high near 82. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. Maximum dew point of 61 at 10am. Typical average high for the weekend is 72 degrees.

In four weeks on June 20 the sun will be setting at 8:36 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 17 minutes and 35 seconds later then tonight. In 2018 on that day, we had mostly sunny and temperatures between 76 and 56 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 79 and 58 degrees. The record high of 97 degrees was set back in 1953.

Looking ahead, Summer ๏ธโ›ฑ๏ธ is in 4 weeks, Independence Day ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ is in 6 weeks, August ๐ŸŒป is in 10 weeks and Last Sunset After 7 PM ๐ŸŒ† is in 19 weeks.

Cooking Dinner

May 23, 2019 Morning

Good morning! Happy Thursday. Four weeks to Summer ๏ธโ›ฑ๏ธ. Partly sunny and 58 degrees at the bus stop down by Delaware Plaza. There is a south-southeast breeze at 8 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 49 degrees. Talk about a pleasant morning for a change.

I dropped off my dry cleaning and hopefully they’ll get my jackets looking spiffy.๐Ÿ‘”One of the jackets is one of my old ones that I just wear on the bus or to legislative receptions where I’m likely to spill food on ๐Ÿ˜ฎ as I’m overserved good food and drink. ๐Ÿท Yeah, I’m a good ol boy pig. I can complain a lot about Albany but I do like the free food and drink. ๐Ÿป Only 13 session days left – 48 have come and gone.

Today will have a chance of showers before 2pm, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms between 2pm and 5pm, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after 5pm. Increasing clouds ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 75 degrees at 3pm. Three degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around June 3rd. Maximum dew point of 57 at 4pm. South wind 8 to 14 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 81 degrees. The record high of 93 was set in 1964.

I am pretty much packed for my Memorial Day Weekend trip to somewhere undetermined. โ›บ Maybe traffic conditions will ultimately decide where I go. I mean it’s been a year since I’ve been to Vermont and it’s the only time this year I’m thinking about going there. That said exploring more of the Simease Pond wilderness interests me too. I’ll have to study the weather more.

I’m working on finalizing my meal plan ๐Ÿด for camp ๐Ÿ‘and will head out shopping after work at Hannaford before heading over to the Save the Pine Bush meeting this evening. ๐Ÿ‘ช It would be a nice night to hike in the Pine Bush but I don’t think I will have time as I finalize my packing for the long weekend and get to bed by ten. ๐Ÿ•™

The sun will set at 8:18 pm with dusk around 8:52 pm, which is 57 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At sunset, look for rain ๐ŸŒง and thunderstorms ๐ŸŒฉ and temperatures around 68 degrees. The dew point will be 58 degrees. There will be a south breeze at 15 mph. Today will have 14 hours and 53 minutes of daytime, an increase of one minute and 44 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will have showers and thunderstorms likely before midnight, then a chance of showers. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 56 degrees at 5am. Six degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around June 12th. Maximum dew point of 58 at 7pm. South wind 13 to 15 mph becoming west after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. In 2018, we had mostly clear skies. It got down to 52 degrees. The record low of 29 occurred back in 1963.

Looking ahead, there are 4 weeks until Summer ๏ธโ›ฑ๏ธ when the sun will be setting at 8:36 pm with dusk at 9:11 pm. Beach, baby beach I believe is the song. So many swimming holes to explore so little time. On that day in 2018, we had mostly sunny and temperatures between 76 and 56 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 79 degrees. We hit a record high of 97 back in 1953.

The Lodge

May 22, 2019 Night

Good evening! Mostly cloudy and 61 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜ There is a south breeze at 5 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 41 degrees. The skies will clear around 10 pm. I’ve been watching the humidity meter this evening in my bedroom and it’s been creeping up. Only a few hours ago dew points where in the 30s.

I got most of my gear packed for camping this weekend. โ›บ The great debate between the Greens and the Adirondacks continue but the only difference really is if I bring worms and they my fishing ๐ŸŽฃ pole. If I do go to Vermont I want to camp somewhere more remote where I can listen to music without bothering the neighbors. Vermont I would probably hike down to Lye Brook Falls and maybe Stratton Mountain. Adirondacks I’d probably hike back to Simease Ponds although thats a pretty long hike. Also considering going up to Thirteenth Lake and hiking back to Hour Pond. Lots of options. Built a new hose to make it easier to fill my water tanks with less spillage from the bathroom sink. That’s good because I’ve been doing it in the kitchen since the landlord removed the tub faucet and that’s been a pain.

Tonight will be scattered showers, mainly after 3am. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 53 degrees at 5am. Four degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around June 2nd. South wind around 5 mph becoming calm after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. In 2018, we had cloudy skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 56 degrees. The record low of 36 occurred back in 1967.

Tonight will have a Waning Gibbous Moon ๐ŸŒ– with 73% illuminated with the moon rising at 12:00 am. The moon will set at 9:26 am. The Last Quarter Moon is on Saturday night. The Strawberry Moon ๐ŸŒ is on Sunday, June 16th. The sun will rise at 5:26 am with the first light at 4:53 am, which is 48 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ Tonight will have 9 hours and 7 minutes of darkness, a decrease of one minute and 45 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will be scattered showers, with thunderstorms also possible after 3pm. Some of the storms could produce gusty winds. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฆ, with a high of 75 degrees at 3pm. Three degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around June 3rd. Maximum dew point of 58 at 3pm. South wind 9 to 14 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. A year ago, we had light rain in the morning, which became light rain by afternoon. The high last year was 81 degrees. The record high of 93 was set in 1964.

Tomorrow I will drop off two of my jackets to get dry cleaned๐Ÿ‘”and then I will leave my truck at the Park and Ride, picking up some groceries for camp before heading to the Save the Pine Bush meeting๐ŸŽover the Crossgates apartment complex.

Weekend continues to look decent but not perfect. ๐Ÿ˜• Saturday, a slight chance of showers, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after 2pm. Partly sunny, with a high near 72. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. Maximum dew point of 58 at 5pm. I have tarps if necessary. Sunday, partly sunny, with a high near 78. Maximum dew point of 59 at 6am. Typical average high for the weekend is 72 degrees.

In four weeks on June 19 the sun will be setting at 8:36 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 18 minutes and 17 seconds later then tonight. In 2018 on that day, we had hot and humid conditions, mostly sunny skies and temperatures between 83 and 64 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 79 and 58 degrees. The record high of 94 degrees was set back in 1995.

I made some edits to the code for my VMS display in my bedroom. ๐Ÿ“Ÿ It now pulls from both the clock chip and humidity sensor for calculating the indoor temperature for greater accuracy and uses a decimal value. It also resets the high and low temperature at midnight each day. It’s fun to monitor the indoor temperature, dewpoint and humidity, especially now with the windows open. โฌ›My next step is to hook up the outside temperature sensor which mostly just requires me to figure out how to sneak the wires outside and position the sensor for an accurate estimate, especially in the winter when the windows are closed.โฌœ

Looking ahead, 8:30 PM Sunset ๏ธโ›ฑ๏ธ is in 2 weeks, Last Day of Session ๐Ÿ› is in 4 weeks, Average High is 80 ๐Ÿ– is a month away, Altamont Fair Opens ๐ŸŽก is in 12 weeks, State Fair Opens ๐ŸŽก is in 13 weeks, September 11th ๐Ÿ‡ธ is in 16 weeks, Autumn ๐Ÿ‚ is in 4 months, More Night then Day ๐ŸŒŒ is in 18 weeks and Inauguration Day 2021 ๐Ÿ‘ด๐Ÿป is in 87 weeks.

Middle Lake 2

May 21, 2019 Night

Good evening! Mostly clear and 60 degrees in Delmar, NY. There is a northwest breeze at 10 mph. ๐Ÿƒ.

A fairly pleasant evening, I went down to the park for a while and read ๐Ÿ“– some more about Tammany Hall and then came home and are laying in bed. I have to teach a nine o’clock class tomorrow so I need to get to bed early. I went to Brewer’s Association night for a bit but headed home early as I wanted to go to the park on this nice evening and knew that I had to up bright and early tomorrow ๐Ÿป.

Tonight will be clear ๐ŸŒƒ, with a low of 45 degrees at 5am. Four degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around May 10th. Northwest wind 6 to 10 mph. In 2018, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became light rain by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 55 degrees. The record low of 33 occurred back in 2002.

Tonight will have a Waning Gibbous Moon ๐ŸŒ– with 81% illuminated with the moon rising at 11:11 pm. The moon will set at 8:31 am. The Last Quarter Moon is on Saturday night with a partly cloudy then slight chance of showers and mostly cloudy skies. The Strawberry Moon ๐ŸŒ is on Sunday, June 16th. I love those little Juneberries you find in the fields. Wild strawberry ๐Ÿ“ we used to call them. The sun will rise at 5:26 am with the first light at 4:53 am, which is 50 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ Tonight will have 9 hours and 9 minutes of darkness, a decrease of one minute and 47 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will be sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 72 degrees at 4pm. One degree above normal, which is similar to a typical day around May 23rd. North wind 6 to 8 mph. Another nice spring day. Maybe I’ll be able to get outside for a while tomorrow at lunch. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 63 degrees. Chilly! The record high of 97 was set in 1911.

Tomorrow night I should start packing up for the long weekend and I might do some shopping ๐Ÿ‘ as Thursday night I have a Save the Pine Bush event that I am going to attend after work and I want to leave for camp after work on Friday – wherever I end up going. Looks like a nice weekend.

A picture perfect weekend on tap. ๐Ÿ˜Ž Saturday, a chance of showers after 2pm. Partly sunny, with a high near 74. Chance of precipitation is 50%. Maximum dew point of 60 at 6pm. Sunday, a chance of showers before 8am. Mostly sunny, with a high near 77. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Maximum dew point of 59 at 7am. Typical average high for the weekend is 72 degrees.

I’m still on the fence about Vermont versus the Adirondacks. I like the quiet of Branch Pond Road and I’ve enjoyed it the past two years going up there. โ›บ But I kind of want to do something new this year. If I camp on the East Branch there will be a ton of noisy traffic but I am toying with the idea of hiking back to Simease Pond past Eleventh Mountain or maybe exploring the Oregon Trail or driving up to Thirteenth Lake and hiking back to Hour Pond. I’m not sure where I would hike if I went to Vermont. I don’t want to hike Stratton Mountain or Bourne/Stratton Pond again necessarily. I want to do something new.

That said, I’m thinking of heading to Spectator after Jessup River Road opend come early to mid June so I can camp at the campsite ๐Ÿ’ญ I stayed at Labor Day Weekend where I have good cell service for work and lots of sun for solar power and a great place to hang my hammock at the campsite with good views to boot – the Hartwick Hill campsite I believe it’s called. Might be scary place to be though during a severe thunderstorm but there ain’t too many widow makers at least up there.

In four weeks on June 18 the sun will be setting at 8:36 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 18 minutes and 58 seconds later then tonight. In 2018 on that day, we had hot, humid, mostly sunny and temperatures between 97 and 71 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 79 and 57 degrees. The record high of 97 degrees was set back in 2018.

Looking ahead, Primary Day ๐Ÿ—ณ๏ธ is in 5 weeks, Last Sunset After 8:30 PM ๐ŸŒ† is in 8 weeks, State Fair Opens ๐ŸŽก is in 3 months, Constitution Day ๐Ÿ“œ is in 17 weeks, Average High 70 ๐ŸŽ‘ is in 4 months, October ๐Ÿ›ฅ is in 19 weeks and Election Day 2020 ๐Ÿ—ณ๏ธ is in 76 weeks.

May 20, 2019 Morning

Good morning! Monday’s come back around again. Next Monday is Memorial Day ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ. Rain showers and clouds and 74 degrees waiting for the bus at the Valero. โ˜” There is a south-southwest breeze at 9 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 63 degrees. I think it’s the first time we’ve had dew points in the sixties this year. Definitely damp in my apartment, the humidity sensor says it’s closer to a dew point of 65 inside with a humidity of 80%. I’m glad I wired that up in my VMS display. The skies will clear around noontime.

So it’s the work week before the holiday weekend, heading downtown. ๐Ÿš I caught the later bus downtown this morning as I had trouble getting going on this rainy morning in my truck cap but so be it. It wasn’t a bad night sleeping — some heavy rain during the night and some flashes of lighting — but in general a nice night. My parents did make a nice breakfast. ๐Ÿณ It was a dark and rainy morning then when I got home and the floors were wet from the humidity but at least my VMS display is working well since I added that transistor to refresh the display and clear out any invalid data. The trick with the transistor was to put the display into sleep mode, cut power, and then wake it up from sleep mode once power was restored — sticking in a 10 millisecond delay — to get a full refresh from any errors.

Today will have a chance of showers and thunderstorms. Some of the storms could produce gusty winds. Partly sunny โ˜€, with a high of 83 degrees at 2pm. 12 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around July 13th. Too bad I have to work and with everything being so wet this morning it feels like a swamp. Maximum dew point of 64 at 10am. Hopefully things will dry up later today. Southwest wind 9 to 18 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning with a few breaks of sun the afternoon. It was somewhat humid. The high last year was 75 degrees. The record high of 91 was set in 1962.

The sun will set at 8:16 pm with dusk around 8:49 pm, which is one minute later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At sunset, look for partly clear skies – wait for it – with a chance of thunderstorms ๐ŸŒง and temperatures around 67 degrees. In case you mud was getting dehydrated says the internet meme. The good news is that cool dry air will be pushing into so things will hopefully be nice. The dew point will be 53 degrees. There will be a west-northwest breeze at 13 mph. Today will have 14 hours and 48 minutes of daytime, an increase of one minute and 52 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will have a slight chance of showers before 10pm. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 50 degrees at 5am. One degree above normal, which is similar to a typical night around May 24th. Northwest wind 11 to 13 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. In 2018, we had mostly clear skies. It got down to 47 degrees. The record low of 32 occurred back in 1949.

I’m going to change the code on my VMS display in my bedroom to take the average of the temperature from the clock chip and the DHT 11 sensor. It seems like the clock chip rides a few degrees too high and the humidity DHT 11 runs too low compared to the mercury thermometer on my wall. I think it’s heat from the circuits ๐Ÿ’ซ that’s causing the too high readings. I also have an external temperature probe that I want to wire up outside, to get an outside temperature reading, and also add code to reset the day’s recorded high and low temperature, at midnight each night.

I have many options for the long weekend โ›บ and I’ve been leaning against more going up to the East Branch because I was just up there. I might back country tent ๐ŸŽช camp locally if I don’t want to deal with so many black flies ๐Ÿœ or maybe go back up to Vermont where I’ve been spending a lot of holiday weekends lately. The problem with VEE-mont is I don’t have a fishing license for there but the Grout Pond swimming beach is nice. Not sure if it’s going to be that warm out this weekend but I would like to camp somewhere I have cellphone ๐Ÿ“ฑ reception, lots of sun for solar and maybe some swimming ๐ŸŠ and fishing ๐ŸŽฃ opportunities.

As previously noted, next Monday is Memorial Day ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ when the sun will be setting at 8:22 pm with dusk at 8:56 pm. On that day in 2018, we had rain showers, partly sunny and temperatures between 68 and 54 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 73 degrees. We hit a record high of 94 back in 1914.
