Happy Hump Day! โ›ˆ

This morning started out pretty wet, with some good crashes of thunder and pouring rain but the rain stopped before it was time to ride into work, and it wasn’t bad bad a few sprinkles and clouds. By evening the sun will return and it should be a nice evening.

Good morning! What day is it? Hump Day, of course. Cloudy โ˜๏ธ and 57 degrees in Delmar, NY. 5 mph north-west breeze.

This morning started out with Johnny cakes ๐Ÿฅž and cottage cheese. You know the usual base of a sweet onion ๐Ÿง…, shredded broccoli ๐Ÿฅฆ and spinach. This time added some garlic. A fairly healthy and tasty breakfast.

Today will have showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm before 11am, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly between 11am and 1pm. Cloudy, then gradually becoming mostly sunny, with a high of 79 degrees at 3pm. 10 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around June 12th. Southeast wind 9 to 16 mph becoming northwest in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning, remaining cloudy in the afternoon. The high last year was 65 degrees. The record high of 91 was set in 1936. There was a dusting of snow in 2020.โ„

The past few evenings have been nice at Five Rivers Environmental Education Center ๐Ÿธ, I stay there until dusk then ride back home ๐Ÿก after dark with my bike lights, sometimes taking the long way home through the suburban neighborhoods. ๐Ÿšฒ It’s been nice at Five Rivers the past few days. Only day since Thursday I didn’t get there was Sunday.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:53 pm with sun having an altitude of 64.6ยฐ from the due south horizon (-6.2ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 2.8 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 7:24 pm with the sun in the west-northwest (288ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-northwest (295ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 8:04 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 10 seconds with dusk around 8:35 pm, which is one minute and 6 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the Waxing Crescent ๐ŸŒ’ Moon in the west-northwest (296ยฐ) at an altitude of 7ยฐ from the horizon, 233,154 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 9:15 pm. At sunset, look for clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around degrees. There will be a calm wind. Today will have 14 hours and 26 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 19 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will have a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms before 10pm. Partly cloudy ๐ŸŒฅ, with a low of 52 degrees. Six degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around May 27th. West wind 9 to 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. In 2023, we had mostly clear skies. It got down to 35 degrees. The record low of 27 occurred back in 1956.

I have a Pine Bush Zoom Meeting tonight, ๐Ÿ“น but maybe or during the meeting I’ll get down to the Town Park ๐Ÿž for a while and read ๐Ÿ“– until it’s really dark. The past few nights I’ve been going to Five Rivers Environmental Education Center on my bike to watch nature and read ๐Ÿ“– e-books.

Right now, a split verdict on the weekend. ๐Ÿ˜• Saturday, a chance of showers after 2pm. Partly sunny, with a high near 61. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Maximum dew point of at 9am. Sunday, showers likely, mainly after 2pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 60. Chance of precipitation is 60%. Typical average high for the weekend is 70 degrees.

I think this weekend I’ll be staying in town ๐Ÿก just because I have a bunch of projects to around the apartment and I want to write ๐Ÿ“ some code for the blog. โ˜” I was hoping this would be the weekend to get out to Schoharie and ride the Catskill Scenic Trail but it looks like shit. ๐Ÿ’ฉ I can’t believe how much rain is in the forecast. I guess it’s good I’m riding in today, I think it’s the last time of the week.

Looking ahead, there are 4 weeks until 8:30 PM Sunset ๏ธโ›ฑ๏ธ with dusk at 9:04 pm. On that day in 2023, we had mostly sunny and temperatures between 77 and 47 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 77 degrees. We hit a record high of 97 back in 1925.

A rainy Cinco de Mayo ๐ŸŒฎ

Why are the weekends such complete shit lately I have to ask myself? It’s kind of lame. Yesterday wasn’t bad and Friday was pretty nice, but if I had gone out of town this weekend, it would have been a pretty wet morning taking down gear and driving home in the rain.

Good morning! Rain and 54 degrees in Delmar, NY. ๐ŸŒง๏ธ 15 mph southernly breeze. Not only is it wet, the wind is now whipping around. As they say, the sun ain’t going to shine anymore, at least not for two days straight on weekend.

This morning was eggs and hashbrowns ๐Ÿณ with lots of onions, garlic, and broccoli. Not a half bad breakfast. Last night was red lentil soup with loads of shredded carrot and spices, and a little bit of cornmeal just for that rich taste of cornmeal. Amazing how quickly a big pot of that can disappear. ๐Ÿฒ Super tasty. Pantry is getting bare but I’ll go shopping soon after I shower. :๐Ÿšฟ

Today will have showers before noon, then rain after noon. ๐ŸŒฆ High of 55 degrees at 9am. 14 degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around April 5th. Maximum dew point of at 9am. ๐Ÿ–๏ธ South wind around 16 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 64 degrees. The record high of 91 was set in 1944. There was a dusting of snow in 1900.โ„

I honestly didn’t have high hopes for today, and the weather didn’t disappoint. ๐Ÿ˜” I am putting off shopping for a bit ๐Ÿ›’ as I want to visit Steiner’s and get bike tires this morning and a spare tube, ๐Ÿšฒ so I can be back on road by Monday hopefully and be good if the weather isn’t as shitty as predicted for next weekend to ride the Catskill Scenic Trail without fear of getting a flat. I could probably get away with replacing just one tire but I think I’ll spring for two so they’re matching tires, plus even the one that isn’t totally shot is pretty worn. โšซ

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:53 pm with sun having an altitude of 63.8ยฐ from the due south horizon (-7ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 3 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 7:21 pm with the sun in the west-northwest (287ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-northwest (294ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 8:01 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 9 seconds with dusk around 8:31 pm, which is one minute and 7 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 9:11 pm. At sunset, look for clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 48 degrees. There will be a calm wind. Today will have 14 hours and 19 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 24 seconds over yesterday.

Going out to see the folks this afternoon, ๐Ÿ‘ช but probably won’t stay that late as I want to get the new tires mounted on the bike and the tube re-installed – – and the old tube patched if possible. Hopefully with the new tires I won’t have so many problems, but it’s been bad with the amount of broken glass there has been on the roads lately. Apparently spring comes, and everybody is tossing their beer bottles ๐Ÿพ out their car windows.

Tonight will have showers, mainly before midnight. ๐ŸŒง Low of 41 degrees at 9am. Five degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around May 20th. South wind 7 to 11 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible. In 2023, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became partly cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 49 degrees. The record low of 29 occurred back in 1969.

I’ve just been doing a lot of reading ๐Ÿ“š and learning lately. A lot of it is as a distraction to pass time, but it’s also been as I’ve been trying to learn as much as possible about land and building a cabin. ๐Ÿ“– It was remarkably quiet ๐Ÿคซ around here, no construction ๐Ÿšง on the unit next door yesterday at least while I was home – – I was at Five Rivers ๐Ÿฆ from 8 AM through 4 PM – – and no sports games ๐Ÿˆ being played at the school ๐Ÿšธ next door. I was surprised how truly quiet it was yesterday around here. Even the evening was nice, took a nap ๐Ÿ› and enjoyed that red Lentil soup.

Still a bit bummed out about that cabin I saw go on sale on May 1st, it would have been perfect if not for the access issues. I’m not saying something like that wouldn’t need improvement, but it would have been a great start, but I would want the parcel connected to a public roadway, ๐Ÿก so I wouldn’t have to ever worry about access or improving the road.

Looking ahead, next Sunday is Mothers Day ๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€ when the sun will be setting at 8:09 pm with dusk at 8:40 pm. On that day in 2023, we had a pretty hot day for May, with mostly sunny skies and temperatures between 87 and 44 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 70 degrees. I bet the black flies liked that. We hit a record high of 91 back in 1881.

I am still hoping to take off next Friday and spend a long weekend in the woods, ๐ŸŒฒbut the forecast can’t be as shitty as it currently looks for next weekend. I guess there is still five days for it to change but so far I’m not impressed.

Happy Earth Day! ๐ŸŒŽ

Going to be a beautiful day for riding to work. Carrot pancakes, need to stop at Hannaford to get bananas on the way in as a snack as I’ve not been shopping this week. Felt good to toss that empty plastic milk bottle in the trash on Earth Day knowing soon enough I’ll get it burnt, lol. Makes an excellent fire starter. Gotta celebrate Vladmir Lennin’s birthday with a little black smoke, as you turn the dirt with your plow or spreading manure on this Earth Day.

Good morning! Mostly sunny and 39 degrees in Delmar, NY. There is a northwest breeze at 9 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. Temperatures will drop below freezing at tomorrow around 3 am. โ˜ƒ๏ธ

Didn’t get a real early start ๐Ÿ› as when I first awoke I had a bit of nausea like I had been spinning. ๐ŸคฏBut once I finally got out of bed, got some coffee and carrot ๐Ÿฅ• pancakes ๐Ÿฅž in me I was feeling better. I think I just have a bad case of the Monday’s. I am looking forward to the ride to work today, going to be a nice day. The weekend was cloudy, colder and wetter then expected but I had a lot of fun in the woods and a nice fire ๐Ÿ”ฅ, rode some trail ๐Ÿšต and went for a nice five mile hike at Huyck Preserve.

Today will be sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 55 degrees at 5pm. Eight degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around April 7th. Northwest wind around 10 mph. A year ago, we had cloudy skies. The high last year was 68 degrees. The record high of 86 was set in 1985. 1.0 inches of snow fell back in 1928.โ„

Going to stop on the way to work and get some bananas and apples at Hannaford ๐ŸŽ ๐ŸŒ Got to fuel up for the busy week ahead, and I like having lots of fresh fruits and veggies to snack on when I’m in the office.  ๐Ÿคค On the bike ride home I will stop and get more onions ๐Ÿง… and frozen fruit and veggies, and try to use up what I have around the apartment rather then doing a full grocery shop ๐Ÿ›’ until at least Wednesday, as I want to get down to the park after work to walk and read.  ๐Ÿšถ๐Ÿ“š๏ธ I figure why fire up Red and spend a bunch of money on groceries ๐Ÿ›ป when I have a fair amount bar the fruit and vegetables, ๐Ÿ„ which I can pick up riding to and from work. Also need to get more milk at Stewart’s. I know more plastic!

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:54 pm with sun having an altitude of 59.8° from the due south horizon (-11.1° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 3.5 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 7:07 pm with the sun in the west-northwest (282°). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-northwest (288°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 7:46 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 2 seconds with dusk around 8:15 pm, which is one minute and 8 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the Full ๐ŸŒ Moon in the east-southeast (119°) at an altitude of 16° from the horizon, 250,219 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 8:52 pm. At sunset, look for clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 51 degrees. There will be a west-northwest breeze at 7 mph. Today will have 13 hours and 46 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 40 seconds over yesterday.

I think it’s interesting how the greenies this year are focusing on single use plastics ๐Ÿ’š on Earth Day. Gets a little bit silly but I think they needed a new issue as they got their climate legislation through on the state level ๐ŸŒŽ but only time will tell what the effect is beyond using a lot of farm land and forest for massive solar farms. I’d be more concerned about the really toxic things in garbage today like all the electronics commonly discarded. โ˜ ๏ธ Or all the wasted building materials not the silly little plastic water bottles that are a tiny part of waste production made out of the least toxic forms of plastic – polyethylene. โ™ป I really should get milk ๐Ÿฅ› delivery set up with Meadow Brook but it’s a pain having to call as they don’t have a website, and at least in the winter months I do recycle most of the discarded Stewart’s milk bottles. I wish they still had milk in glass for less trash like Byrne Dairy does. ๐Ÿฎ I don’t drink as much milk as I once did since getting into healthy eating, preferring to drink more water from the tap, ๐Ÿšฐ but I still think those milk bottles take up much too much room in the trash or the recycle  โ™ป๏ธ when so inclined.

Tonight will be clear ๐ŸŒƒ, with a low of 31 degrees at 4am. Nine degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around April 1st. Northwest wind around 6 mph becoming south after midnight. In 2023, we had thunderstorm in the evening, which became light rain by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 43 degrees. The record low of 26 occurred back in 1975.

First half of the weekend looks decent Saturday, partly sunny, with a high near 62. Maximum dew point of 41 at 4pm. โ˜€ Not too bad but certainly can change. Sunday, a chance of showers. ๐ŸŒฆ๏ธ Mostly cloudy, with a high near 68. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Maximum dew point of 53 at 3pm. Typical average high for the weekend is 65 degrees. It is what it is, good I got out last weekend.

I am not opposed to doing a three-day weekend and heading up to the Adirondacks  ๐Ÿ•๏ธ  but only f the weather looks good. It would be nice to spend some time in the wilderness, have a good fire  ๐Ÿ”ฅ and ride trail or explore the back country  ๐Ÿšต before black flies are out in mass, ๐ŸฆŸ but only if the weather ain’t shit. ๐Ÿ’ฉ I kind of want to wait until things green up  ๐ŸŒฑ before heading out to Schoharie County to camp, and eat fresh ramps I found in the woods, and ride the Catskill Scenic Trail from Stamford to Bloomville ๐Ÿšต‍โ™‚๏ธ and back again, enjoying the colors of spring and the smell of all that freshly turned dirt.๐Ÿšœ Maybe that will be Mother’s Day Weekend.

Looking ahead, there are 9 weeks until Latest Sunset ๐ŸŒ† when the sun will be setting at 8:38 pm with dusk at 9:12 pm. On that day in 2023, we had partly cloudy and temperatures between 86 and 61 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 82 degrees. We hit a record high of 96 back in 1943.

Red, White, and Blue

Cold gray day that smells like cow shit in the wilderness ๐ŸŒฒ ๐Ÿฎ โ˜๏ธ

Especially after that rain and snow mix yesterday afternoon which somewhat took me for surprise. Gotta get that manure out on the hay fields even in the hills and hollows of Rensselaerville. I too much believed the National Weather Service forecast that called for clearing skies and cold with the breeze though that’s a relative thing in late April. I think I left my windows open last night in my apartment, at least on the first floor, I’m hoping it didn’t trigger the heat to come on despite being set at 45. Oh well.

Good morning! Happy Sunday. Mostly cloudy and 39 degrees at the Huyck Preserve in Rensselaerville. โ˜ There is a west-northwest breeze at 10 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. Temperatures will drop below freezing at tomorrow around 6 am. โ˜ƒ๏ธ

Today will be mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฅ, with a high of 46 degrees at 5pm. 16 degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around March 19th. West wind 10 to 13 mph. We had some sun earlier, maybe we will have some later. But it’s much colder and grayer then I expected. Of course I probably shouldn’t have been surprised to have cold wet snow camping yesterday afternoon too. โ„ A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. The high last year was 79 degrees. The record high of 89 was set in 1923. 0.6 inches of snow fell back in 1947.โ„ Big whoop.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:56 pm with sun having an altitude of 59.5ยฐ from the due south horizon (-11.4ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 3.5 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 7:07 pm with the sun in the west (281ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-northwest (287ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 7:46 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 1 seconds with dusk around 8:15 pm, which is one minute and 8 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the Full ๐ŸŒ Moon in the east-southeast (123ยฐ) at an altitude of 26ยฐ from the horizon, 251,521 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 8:52 pm. At sunset, look for partly clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 43 degrees. There will be a west-northwest breeze at 13 mph. Today will have 13 hours and 43 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 40 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be mostly clear ๐ŸŒƒ, with a low of 32 degrees at 5am. Eight degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around April 4th. West wind 11 to 15 mph. In 2023, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 53 degrees. The record low of 20 occurred back in 1947.

Looking ahead, there are 2 weeks until Cinco de Mayo ๐Ÿค  when the sun will be setting at 8:02 pm with dusk at 8:32 pm. Been so cold and wet this spring that seems hard to believe. On that day in 2023, we had partly sunny, rain showers and temperatures between 64 and 40 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 68 degrees. We hit a record high of 91 back in 1944.

Route 8

Another Rainy Thursday โ˜”

Seems like this week is following the exact same pattern as last week, rain Wednesday evening, rain Thursday and Friday with showers and clouds and cool come Saturday. Kind of obnoxious in my book as I like riding into work and I would like to head out of town for the weekend at least the overnight.

Good morning! Happy Rainy Thursday. I know, again, really? Rain and 45 degrees in Delmar, NY. ๐ŸŒง๏ธ There is a south-southeast breeze at 7 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. I can’t control the weather but I can my attitude. ๐Ÿคฌ It would definitely would be a cold and wet day if I was out camping.

Started the morning with shredded oatmeal and some canned pumpkin ๐ŸŽƒ with a bunch of fried yellow onions๐Ÿง… with cornmeal, broccoli ๐Ÿฅฆ and eggs ๐Ÿฅšand some garlic. A few cups of coffee โ˜• and I’m up and off early to walk laps on the Concourse. ๐Ÿšถ If it’s going to rain โ˜” best to get my steps in early.

Today will have showers before noon, then showers likely with a chance of drizzle, mainly between noon and 1pm. ๐ŸŒฆ High of 46 degrees at 8am. 15 degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around March 19th. Southeast wind 5 to 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning, remaining cloudy in the afternoon. The high last year was 51 degrees. The record high of 90 was set in 1976. 2.7 inches of snow fell back in 1887.โ„

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:55 pm with sun having an altitude of 58.4ยฐ from the due south horizon (-12.4ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 3.7 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 7:03 pm with the sun in the west (280ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-northwest (286ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 7:41 pm after setting for 3 minutes with dusk around 8:10 pm, which is one minute and 9 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the Waxing Gibbous ๐ŸŒ” Moon in the southeast (141ยฐ) at an altitude of 55ยฐ from the horizon, 251,515 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 8:47 pm. At sunset, look for rain showers ๐ŸŒง and temperatures around 46 degrees. There will be a calm wind. Tomorrow will have 13 hours and 38 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 42 seconds over today.

Last night I took the bus ๐Ÿš home, made up Johnny cakes ๐Ÿฅž and oatmeal with pumpkin ๐ŸŽƒ and then went upstairs to do some reading ๐Ÿ“–. Ended up stumbling upon a very well narrated video series on statistics and spatial analysis using R by Great Courses on Kanopy from my local library for free ๐Ÿ†“. While I’m fairly experienced in R there is always more to learn. Spatial correlation is something I’m quite interested in but I find it’s a bit of a complicated theory to understand.

Tonight will have a chance of drizzle with a slight chance of showers before 1am. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒง๏ธ , with a low of 41 degrees at 3am. Three degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around April 25th. Light south wind. Chance of precipitation is 20%. In 2023, we had light rain in the evening, which became partly cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 35 degrees. The record low of 18 occurred back in 1875.

Blustery and cool this weekend but not so wet. โ˜€๏ธ๐ŸŒฌ๏ธSaturday, a slight chance of showers before 8am, then scattered showers after 2pm. Partly sunny, with a high near 60. West wind 9 to 13 mph, with gusts as high as 24 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. Sunday, mostly sunny, with a high near 56. Typical average high for the weekend is 62 degrees.

I am thinking about camping ๐Ÿ• locally this weekend if Saturday is half decent so I don’t have to listen to them working on construction ๐Ÿšง at the unit next door, even though the new landlord has been good about not running the jack hammer or loud equipment in the weekend and evenings. Still it’s annoying as often they have a lot of equipment on the driveway and I have to ask for them to move it to get our so it might be nice to do a quick overnight. I’m thinking the first or second week of May to do trip out to Schoharie ๐Ÿšฒ and ride the Catskill Scenic Trail once things green up, especially the greener farm section down in Delaware County assuming that it’s not so wet the trail is completely bogged down.

Hump Day starting out nice ๐Ÿช

Sunny and not too cold for mid April but so far no real warm weather. Those days most certainly though are coming.

Good morning! What day is it? Hump Day, of course. But as they say, the nice weather is not expected to last. Mostly sunny and 43 degrees in Delmar. โ˜€ There is a north breeze at 7 mph. ๐Ÿƒ

French toast this morning ๐Ÿฅ–, slicing off some slices of the homemade bread I made last week that was getting stale. Not bad topped with strawberries ๐Ÿ“ and honey ๐Ÿฏ. Dinner last night was fried zucchini ๐Ÿ† with sweet onions ๐Ÿง…, riding home last night I picked up some more.

When I was cooking this morning ๐ŸณI apparently startled a mouse ๐Ÿ which proceeded to jump from the counter to the hot stove and then across the room in the air. Apparently the electric mouse zappers didn’t get him as I ignored the mouse captured blinking light on it last night. ๐ŸชคA mouse trap don’t work if it’s full.

Today will have increasing clouds โ˜€ ๐Ÿ‘‰ โ˜, with a high of 64 degrees at 3pm. Four degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around April 25th. North wind 5 to 7 mph becoming calm in the morning. A year ago, we had light rain in the morning, which became mostly sunny by afternoon. The high last year was 64 degrees. The record high of 91 was set in 2002. 0.3 inches of snow fell back in 1965.โ„

Should be a beautiful day for riding in ๐Ÿšฒ but depending if it rains โ˜” I might have to bus ๐Ÿš it home. So be it. Still good exercise. ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿป Yesterday it was nice reading ๐Ÿ“– down at the park. ๐Ÿž

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:55 pm with sun having an altitude of 58.1ยฐ from the due south horizon (-12.8ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 3.7 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 7:02 pm with the sun in the west (279ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-northwest (286ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 7:40 pm after setting for 3 minutes with dusk around 8:09 pm, which is one minute and 8 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the Waxing Gibbous ๐ŸŒ” Moon in the south-southeast (155ยฐ) at an altitude of 64ยฐ from the horizon, 250,209 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 8:45 pm. At sunset, look for rain ๐ŸŒง and temperatures around 59 degrees. There will be a south breeze at 9 mph. Today will have 13 hours and 33 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 43 seconds over yesterday.

They’re continuing to gut the apartment next door and tore up part of the slab. ๐Ÿ‘ทQuite the construction ๐Ÿšง project, they’re must have been a lot wrong with the physical plant of the unit next door, probably this explains why my apartment is always wet and the bathtub never properly drains. ๐Ÿšฟ Or the mold issues. Who knows if the fixes next door will also improve my unit as a side effect. I can hope.

Tonight will have showers likely, mainly after 10pm. Cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 45 degrees at 6am. Seven degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around May 5th. Southeast wind 8 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible. In 2023, we had cloudy skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 38 degrees. The record low of 21 occurred back in 1948.

Cool this weekend with temperatures running 6 degrees below normal but otherwise sunny. ๐Ÿ˜ƒ Saturday, partly sunny, with a high near 58. Breezy. Sunday, mostly sunny, with a high near 55. Typical average high for the weekend is 62 degrees.

Still not sure what my weekend plans are going to be ๐ŸŒฒ in part because it’s going to rain on Friday evening and I’m thinking in a few weeks it would be nice to go out to Schoharie County and do a spring time ride along the Catskill Scenic Trail rather than do it this weekend. I do want to camp โ›บ maybe just a quick overnight but it’s probably too cold to do a hammock camp just up in the woods. I thought about heading back to the Adirondacks but it’s a pretty good trip to just head there for the weekend.

Looking ahead, there are 2 weeks until May ๐Ÿ•Š when the sun will be setting at 7:57 pm with dusk at 8:26 pm. On that day in 2023, we had rain and temperatures between 59 and 45 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 66 degrees. We hit a record high of 86 back in 2001.

Winding Road

Cold mid-April morning ๐ŸŒฅ๏ธ

Started out my day bright and early around 5 AM cooking up a big pan of veggies, eggs and some cornmeal with lots of turmeric and red chili peppers to ensure my nose still ran well. Did some reading, finishing up the e-book on green building I had form the library, continuing that e-book on sustainable farming and java programming.

Good morning! Happy Saturday. Another shit weather weekend. ๐Ÿ’ฉ That’s how I feel about this weekend’s forecast, now that the windows are closed in my apartment. ๐ŸชŸ I like the fresh air, the lack of it makes me a bit cranky. Mostly cloudy with a few hints of sun, ๐ŸŒฅ๏ธ and 48 degrees in Delmar. Much colder then yesterday, and certainly quite a bit below normal. There is a south-southwest breeze at 13 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The skies will clear around 10 pm.

One of the first things on my agenda ๐Ÿ”ง is to perform the usual adjustments on my bike  ๐Ÿšฒ๏ธ to keep the gears working well. I also want to do scrub down some of the walls in my apartment and floor as the floors were soaked yesterday after all the rain and wet weather we’ve been having lately. ๐ŸŒง๏ธ I could smell the mold starting to grow once again. This place is such a run down dump, ๐Ÿš๏ธ but let’s be honest, I kind of like it as it is. That said, I do like having the windows open. Fresh air is good.

Today will have a chance of showers. Cloudy ๐ŸŒฆ, with a high of 49 degrees at 6am. Nine degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around March 26th. Breezy, with a southwest wind 13 to 20 mph becoming west in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 38 mph. S Chance of precipitation is 50%. Going to be a fairly cool day by mid-April standards. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. A year ago, we had sunny skies. The high last year was 89 degrees, breaking the previously set record. But not today. 5.5 inches of snow fell back in 1950.โ„

Thinking of heading out early for a ride out to Voorheesville ๐Ÿšด‍โ™‚๏ธ before the wind picks up an things cloud up. I am actually happy to see a bit of blue sky ๐ŸŒฌ๏ธ but I know it’s not going to last with rain more likely later. I might then go down to the library. ๐Ÿ“š๏ธ They are renovating the unit next door now that my neighbor with the big garbage pile moved out. A bit noisy with all the construction going on. ๐Ÿ‘ท‍โ™€๏ธ New landlord seems to be pretty good at maintaining the yard so far and has been friendly. Rent is going up in June, but it’s not that much — $800 a  month in these inflationary times isn’t bad. ๐Ÿ˜๏ธ I’m kind of hoping for a new lease, so I can stay another year while I continue to evaluate my options.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:56 pm with sun having an altitude of 56.6° from the due south horizon (-14.2° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 4 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 6:58 pm with the sun in the west (277°). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-northwest (284°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 7:36 pm after setting for 2 minutes and 58 seconds with dusk around 8:04 pm, which is one minute and 8 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the First Quarter ๐ŸŒ“ Moon in the west-southwest (256°) at an altitude of 57° from the horizon, 240,404 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 8:40 pm. At sunset, look for rain ๐ŸŒง and temperatures around 46 degrees. Breezy, 22 mph breeze โ›… from the west-northwest with gusts up to 46mph. Today will have 13 hours and 22 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 47 seconds over yesterday.

Yesterday evening, did a nice bike ride out to Five Rivers. ๐Ÿšด‍โ™‚๏ธ It was a nice evening, with the spring peepers ๐Ÿธ singing their songs and red-winged black birds chirping along. ๐Ÿฆ๏ธ One of the cows was out loose on Meads Lane  ๐Ÿฎ . It was a pleasant evening, came home and read for a while,  ๐Ÿ“– the headed off to bed.

Tonight will be cloudy, then gradually becoming partly cloudy ๐ŸŒƒ, with a low of 39 degrees at 6am. Three degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around April 20th. Breezy, with a west wind 13 to 22 mph, with gusts as high as 44 mph. In 2023, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became partly cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 58 degrees. The record low of 19 occurred back in 1973. More rain come Sunday.

I’m hoping next week to get out camping.  ๐Ÿ•๏ธ It all depends on how things go weather wise, but it’s been a few weeks since I last spent a night in the wilderness. Thinking about the Green Mountains, maybe taking a three day weekend, but it depends on what roads are open. I could also do Rensslearville State Forest or maybe Madison County. Not sure, I need to think about it a bit more.

As previously noted, there are 2 weeks until Arbor Day ๐ŸŒณ when the sun will be setting at 7:52 pm with dusk at 8:21 pm. On that day in 2023, we had partly cloudy, patches of fog and temperatures between 62 and 40 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 65 degrees. We hit a record high of 91 back in 1962.
