It was a Monday. ๐Ÿข Not a bad one, I was home by around 6:20 zapped some food ๐Ÿฒ I had previously froze and had dinner. Out for the evening walk ๐Ÿšถ and then it’s off to bed ๐Ÿ› for the night. Another mild night though cooler weather than recent.

It’s a nice night ๐ŸŒƒ for the evening walk ๐Ÿšถ with some snow ๐ŸŒจ coming down but not really sticking to the pavement. Salters are out so it wouldn’t be a good night to wash my truck plus I’m tired. I’m thinking Thursday will be mild but will things be really salty come the cold blast?

My phone is still dropping out ๐Ÿ“ถ a lot at home ๐Ÿก but not other places. Seems like it’s happening less frequently now and it’s not that I’m getting throttled because when I’m connected to other towers I’m fine, locally it just keeps breaking up in the general area around home. First time this has been an issue since the start of the pandemic.

I was noting it is only three weeks until President’s Day Weekend. ๐Ÿ‘ด๐Ÿป I’m thinking that would be a good weekend to get away – and maybe tack on a extra day if the weather allows. Snow makes it hard to get away to a lot of places in the back country but I have options. There is always Rennselearville but I’m a bit tired ๐Ÿ˜ด of that.

Kind of a cold and damp morning. ๐ŸŒ… Of course we can discuss the meaning of cold come the weekend when the first cold blast of the season really comes. Seems like in recent years the really cold weather happens after the Ground Hog ๐Ÿป see his shadow.

Back to work after turning forty. It’s the usual Monday routine. ๐Ÿง‘๐Ÿปโ€๐Ÿ’ผI boiled my muzzles yesterday while unpacking my camping ๐Ÿ• gear and I’m doing the morning walk ๐Ÿšถ after having biscuits and oranges ๐ŸŠfor breakfast. My jacket still smells like the weekend that was ๐Ÿ”ฅ but will air out as the week goes on. Shower, iron put on my politicians suit and take the local downtown to my office ๐Ÿข and water the plants. ๐ŸŒฑ Work, work, work ๐Ÿ“„ and get paid Tuesday and invest two thirds of that towards a better tomorrow.

The three day weekend that I invented was nice though nothing that special for my birthday. ๐ŸŽ‚ The skiing ๐ŸŽฟ was great especially on Friday and it was mild and sunny ๐ŸŒž for Saturday but Rennselearville is only 32 minutes from home so it’s not that much of a trip. But I had my fires ๐Ÿ”ฅ burned up all that paper and burnables, had a few drinks ๐Ÿป and some nice meals. ๐Ÿด Did a lot of skiing and a nice hike on Sunday though nothing extraordinary.

My phone service keeps dropping out in Delmar ๐Ÿ“ฑ which has been annoying. ๐Ÿ“ถ Not sure what the problem is though I heard Verizon has had capacity issues lately. I know my cheap service gets the lowest priority and I live on the outskirts of town where service is a bit spotty but it’s been good over the decade and a half I’ve had it. ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ

I don’t think today will be a good one to go to the car wash ๐Ÿšฟ but maybe tomorrow before it gets too cold out. Shopping ๐Ÿ›’ on Friday I tried to get everything I would need for the week but some things inevitably got left off the list ๐Ÿ“ƒ. I’ve misplaced my needles and need to pick some up to fix a shirt. ๐Ÿชก So maybe Tuesday after work.

Frigid weekend ahead. โ„ Saturday, sunny, with a high near 13. That’s cold. Sunday, a chance of snow showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 37. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Typical average high for the weekend is 34 degrees. I guess if I don’t want my pipes to freeze I’m going to have to turn the heat above 48 degrees feel like a husky on a hot summer day. ๐Ÿบ It’s been such a mild winter though no 70 degrees days like that year a few years ago.

Next Monday Save the Pine Bush Turns 45 ๐Ÿฆ‹ when the sun will be setting at 5:16 pm with dusk at 5:44 pm. Makes me feel young. With the clear skies โ˜€ you can really see how much more daylight we’ve gained in recent days. Makes the morning walk the most pleasant. Makes up for the Great Coffee Disaster of 2023 where I knocked over the coffee pot โ˜• and coffee and grounds went everywhere. Still need to do more cleaning of that when I get back home.

Dental cleaning is first on the agenda ๐Ÿชฅ๐Ÿฆท Then propane and food and supplies for camp, then load things in my truck and be off to camp โ›บ. I don’t know how much snow I’ll be digging out but I have that good shovel, get some wood and maybe have some time to ski ๐ŸŽฟ before dark. Days are getting longer now.

It looks like we will have one more week of the mild weather โ˜€ and then like clock ๐Ÿ•’ work the Ground Hog will see his shadow ๐Ÿป and it will be six more weeks of winter. Too cold to snow for a while but then it looks like for the second half of the month warm up a bit and get one of those crazy March snow ๐ŸŒจ storms. I wouldn’t stick a fork into winter yet, National Greed needs their profits.

Good evening! Clouds โ˜๏ธ and 29 degrees for the evening walk ๐Ÿšถ. There is a west breeze at 10 mph. ๐Ÿƒ with gusts up to 22 mph ๐Ÿ’จ๐Ÿ’จ๐Ÿ’จ. There are 4 inches of snow on the ground. โ˜ƒ ๏ธThings will start to thaw out at tomorrow around 11 am. ๐ŸŒก๏ธ

Probably didn’t need to go for a walk ๐Ÿšถ tonight but extra steps are good and I like walking. Helps pass the time and it’s healthy.

The big forty is what’s on my mind tonight. ๐ŸŽ‚ I mean I know it’s just a number and most people eventually hit it but it’s not something you ever give much thought about when you are young. The day will come and go like all do, and what matters is what you make of it as one step towards the future ๐Ÿ”ฎ but it’s such a big number. Been doing a lot of reading about the meaning of turning forty and I guess the best thing about being in your forties is you don’t give a rats ass what others think about you not that I ever really did.

I went to the library for the first time in several weeks ๐Ÿ“š mostly to use the internet, I didn’t get any books out. The library since the pandemic seems so much more crowded than the past. With my unlimited phone plan I mostly just use my phone ๐Ÿ“ฑ but for coding purposes and data intensive things it’s best to go to the library. Plus cell service lately has been unreliable locally since the storm yesterday.

I filled up the water ๐Ÿ’ฆ container and loaded up the propane tank to be filled after I go to the dentist and then I plan to head up to the woods to ski ๐ŸŽฟ and camp โ›บ on my final day of being in my thirties. I just sleep better and are happier in the woods. ๐ŸŒฒ๐ŸŒฒ But first the evening walk ๐Ÿšถ. Also may need more coffee โ˜• before I run out.

Good morning! Happy Thursday. Snow fog, cloudy and one degree above freezing for the morning walk. ๐ŸŒซ There is a southwest breeze at 5 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. There are 5 inches of snow on the ground. โ˜ƒ We ended up getting less rain than expected and no snow over night. So things melted but there is still snow around. Things will freeze again tonight. Temperatures will drop below freezing at around 5 pm. โ˜ƒ๏ธ

Kind of damp and chilly for the morning walk ๐Ÿšถbut the lack of ice is nice. Reminds me of the snowy icy day camping at East Otto State Forest in November or that day camping in December in the Vanderwhacker wilderness. Lots of slop for snow. Dawn is now 6:45 which means that except for the cloudest days the start of the walk isn’t pitch black.

Today was a breakfast reheat morning ๐Ÿฅž which meant it was a quick and easy start to the morning and I set my alarm โฐ 10 minutes earlier to ensure that I maintain my schedule. I like my calorie reduction program it saves so much food and money ๐Ÿ’ต. With inflation every dollar is precious, especially if I can invest it while the market is down.

Today will be mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฅ, with a high of 40 degrees at 11am. Seven degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around February 28th. The high last year was 24 degrees. The record high of 59 was set in 1950. 8.5 inches of snow fell back in 1949.โ„

Taking the express bus ๐Ÿš in as today isn’t a session day. Looks like they’re running the big articulated bus this morning ๐Ÿšwhich means that the driver will likely leave right on time or even a bit early as those pusher buses are slower to drive through traffic. So I have to put my phone down, shower ๐Ÿšฟ quickly leave right on time for the express.

Tomorrow will have 9 hours and 50 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 10 seconds over today.

I got milk ๐Ÿฅ› at Stewart’s yesterday and was disappointed that the expiration date is a week from Friday. Compared to the grocery store that’s good but it’s not as fresh as it used to be. Plus with my calorie reduction program I’m not drinking as much milk as it once did.

January 25, 2023 Evening

Good evening! Well I thought there would be no evening walk ๐Ÿšถ but the dramatic snow storm they promised on the news but it petered out to nothing. Some snow flurries and mist but no driving rain or snow. I guess the night is still young. But once my walk is over I’m off to bed ๐Ÿ›.

Clouds, mist and 33 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜ Light breeze . There are 7 inches of snow on the ground. โ˜ƒ ๏ธTemperatures will drop below freezing at tomorrow around 5 pm. โ˜ƒ๏ธ Probably much less snow come the morning.

It got down to 15 degrees. The record low of -17 occurred back in 1920.

They didn’t have apples ๐Ÿ at the farmers market which ducked. I think the orchard owner wasn’t there due to the bad weather but I did get onions and mushrooms ๐Ÿ„. Okay maybe not that type of mushrooms. But they are still good. Annoyed I walked all the way to the Plaza, past the protestors and they didn’t have apples. I guess it’s extra steps I got in.
