Back to work after the long weekend ๐Ÿ˜ซ

I’m moving, though surprisingly dragging my ass more then I probably should be. I didn’t get up until nearly six o’clock this morning, which is late by my standards but I was at the library until almost 9 o’clock last night, and I forgot to soak the peas I got in the store yesterday, but they’re soaking today and I’ll make pea soup and bread tomorrow morning.

Good morning! Happy Tuesday. Mostly cloudy and 44 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜ There is a south-southeast breeze at 6 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The skies will clear around 5 pm.

I woke up this morning, and I went to the bathroom ๐Ÿšฝ and headed back to bed. No fancy cooking this morning, although that’s not totally true as I cooked up some quinoa, ๐Ÿฅฃ shredded some apples, ๐Ÿ added a bunch of cinnamon and ginger, and made a decently healthy breakfast. Plus some more of that apple bread ๐Ÿž which I can’t say much good about but it’s still relatively nutritious as it’s just carbs and sugars (whole wheat flour, water, yeast, apples, cinnamon and ginger), as I forgot salt as I got distracted and meant to add it at the end of the needing โœŠ process. Still have a bit left of that loaf, I’ll probably finish it up tonight as a dessert. ๐Ÿ  I took salmon out of the freezer, I’ll have it with the remaining sweet corn ๐ŸŒฝ I left at home and forgot about before camping, some onions ๐Ÿง… and spinach. ๐Ÿฅฆ

Today will be mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฅ, with a high of 62 degrees at 3pm. Two degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around October 14th. South wind 6 to 9 mph. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 62 degrees. The record high of 89 was set in 1939. 0.8 inches of snow fell back in 1925.โ„

It got late and I decided it was too late to do my morning walk after breakfast. ๐Ÿ˜ด Mornings are so dark these days. So I rode my bicycle to work. ๐Ÿšฒ I usually don’t like carrying my laptop to work on my bicycle, but I figured if I wrapped my laptop bag in a towel and road carefully I would be fine. Worked out good and I got to avoid riding the bus.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:43 pm with sun having an altitude of 40.8° from the due south horizon (-30° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 6.9 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 5:45 pm with the sun in the west-southwest (255°). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west (262°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 6:23 pm after setting for 2 minutes and 56 seconds with dusk around 6:50 pm, which is one minute and 40 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 7:24 pm. At sunset, look for partly cloudy skies ๐ŸŒƒ and temperatures around 57 degrees. There will be a south breeze at 6 mph. Today will have 11 hours and 22 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 2 minutes and 48 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be partly cloudy ๐ŸŒŒ, with a low of 41 degrees at 3am. Two degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around October 15th. South wind 3 to 5 mph. In 2022, we had shallow fog in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 36 degrees. The record low of 22 occurred back in 1943.

Still looking like a wet one to start out vacation. ๐ŸŒง Saturday, rain likely, mainly after 2pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 55. Chance of precipitation is 60%. Sunday, rain likely. Cloudy, with a high near 56. Chance of precipitation is 60%. Typical average high for the weekend is 62 degrees. I really don’t know what I am going to do about vacation at this point. I really do want to go to West Virginia next week, but it looks like the Appalachians might be socked in cold weather with clouds rain showers through at least Thursday, not exactly great for camping. ๐ŸŒง Makes me want to reconsider my plans. ๐Ÿคท I could postpone vacation another week, but then it’s getting late in October, with shorter days and the leaves mostly gone. I kind of frustrated about it all, this week turned out to be a nice one in West Virginia, but I wanted to avoid the Columbus Day Weekend crowds, and autumn seemed quite late this year. ๐Ÿ˜

Looking ahead, there are 3 weeks until Halloween ๐ŸŽƒ when the sun will be setting at 5:51 pm with dusk at 6:19 pm. On that day in 2022, we had partly cloudy, rain showers and temperatures between 64 and 37 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 56 degrees. We hit a record high of 75 back in 2019.

Colors were Fading on the Western Side of Bearpen

More darkness than light ๐ŸŒƒ

Despite the nearly full moon, it was so dark last night at 7:30 pm while I was transferring buses by that guady old state office building downtown. It seems like more and more of the time I’m walking in the darkness or delaying my morning walk due to darkness. More time to enjoy delicious food I’m cooking up in the kitchen in the morning.

Good morning! Bumping over the Hump Day and the middle of the week and the night to day balance. Partly clear and 42 degrees in Delmar, NY. ๐ŸŒ… Calm wind. You’ll need your choke on this morning until it warms up this morning and maybe gloves ๐Ÿงค. It’s a bit chilly this morning at least for the fingers on the morning walk. ๐Ÿšถ Fog around and the air tastes of silage. ๐Ÿฎ Autumn is here. ๐Ÿ‚ The fresh bread was good this morning. ๐Ÿž

Today will be mostly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 70 degrees at 3pm. Typical for today. Maximum dew point of 51 at 6pm. Northeast wind 3 to 6 mph. A year ago, we had cloudy skies in the morning, which became cloudy by afternoon. The high last year was 68 degrees. The record high of 89 was set in 2017. Amazing how quickly the average temperature drops this time of year.

Bed time was at nine o’clock. ๐Ÿ› I rose at five to cook. Early to bed, early to rise. โ˜บ Peas soaked overnight, with pea soup cooked this morning for lunch. ๐Ÿ˜‹ Whole wheat has been baked. The dough was been kneaded for ten minutes – I find watching YouTube helps pass the time and is rising overnight for morning baking. Also will bake squash and zucchini at the same time to save energy. On the griddle this morning was oatmeal – banana pumpkin pancakes ๐Ÿฅžtopped with frozen strawberries. ๐Ÿ“ Yum!

Last night was brown rice, lentils, black beans with lots of turmeric and Chipotle pepper spice with green beans. ๐Ÿฒ I cooked that this morning, made crispy in the broiler last. ๐Ÿ Then non-fat plain Greek yogurt with shredded apples with ginger, cinnamon. Yum. It was a great to eat as I was hungry after attending a planning board meeting in Colonie regarding a proposed solar farm in the Albany Pine Bush. ๐ŸŒฒ

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:47 pm with sun having an altitude of 45.8ยฐ from the due south horizon (-25ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 5.8 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 6:09 pm with the sun in the west (262ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west (269ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 6:46 pm after setting for 2 minutes and 54 seconds with dusk around 7:12 pm, which is one minute and 46 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the Full ๐ŸŒ Moon in the east-southeast (112ยฐ) at an altitude of 10ยฐ from the horizon, 226,705 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 7:47 pm. At sunset, look for partly cloudy skies ๐ŸŒƒ and temperatures around 66 degrees. The dew point will be 51 degrees. There will be a east-northeast breeze at 5 mph. Tomorrow will have 11 hours and 56 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 2 minutes and 52 seconds over today.

Tonight will be partly cloudy ๐ŸŒƒ , with a low of 44 degrees at 6am. Four degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around October 7th. Calm wind. In 2022, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became partly cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 52 degrees. The record low of 24 occurred back in 1947.

Last night I went up to a scoping overview meeting ๐Ÿ‘จ ๐Ÿ‘จโ€โš–๏ธ๐Ÿ‘ด in Colonie over a proposal solar facility in the Albany Pine Bush, next to a known butterfly site. ๐Ÿฆ‹ While they didn’t take scoping comment at this meeting, and I had to leave early to catch the bus home ๐ŸšŒ around 7 PM due to the next bus not being another hour, and it wouldn’t have worked with the connecting bus back home. I honestly didn’t want to drive up there, as I don’t have parking downtown, and Lynne was out of town so I couldn’t get a ride there, but it was important for as many Save the Pine Bush members as possible to be there.

Riding to the Colonie Town Hall on a bicycle at rush hour this evening was fun, bypassing all the cars stuck in traffic on the shoulder. ๐Ÿš˜ The hills on Lark Street aren’t that bad, Northern Boulevard is nice with the bike lanes, the merge onto US 9 from Northern Boulevard is a bit sketchy due to the narrow shoulder just past the ramp. The rest of US 9 for the most part has a good shoulder. Honestly, I did not mind the ride. Plus it got my exercise part of the day in with my morning commute downtown yesterday.

I do wish there was more CDTA Route 182 buses in the evening, had to leave the planning board meeting a few minutes early. ๐Ÿš Or more daylight, I would have ridden back downtown if not already dark. But I certainly wasn’t going to ride US 9 after dark, especially without a bike taillight — which I lost this past weekend mountain biking up at the Thacher.

A picture perfect autumn weekend on tap. ๐Ÿ Saturday, mostly sunny, with a high near 74. Maximum dew point of 58 at 12pm. Sunday, sunny, with a high near 76. Maximum dew point of 59 at 4pm. Typical average high for the weekend is 68 degrees. Heat wave! Even warmer next week. I really should take Friday off. Maybe I will.

I am also thinking of requesting off October 16-20th to go down to West Virginia. โ›ฐ This is the week after Columbus Day Weekend, probably somewhat beyond peak color, though I expect it to be late this year due to the mild weather. ๐Ÿ That said, it will very a lot depending on my elevation, and I’m not necessarily set on going all the way to WV — it’s such a long multi-day drive in my old truck. I could do a trip to Allegheny National Forest as an alternative, or maybe the Tug Hill Plateau and North Country. That’s a trip I will explore this afternoon most likely as a blog post.

Looking ahead but maybe not forward, next Wednesday is Last Sunset After 6:30 PM ๐ŸŒ† when the sun will be setting at 6:33 pm with dusk at 7:00 pm. On that day in 2022, we had mostly cloudy, rain showers and temperatures between 60 and 47 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 67 degrees. We hit a record high of 86 back in 1891.

Schoharie Valley

They’re taking about frost in the North Country this morning ๐Ÿ‚

You can taste the fresh silage on the air and you know it won’t be long before the leaves will be full of color in the North Country. Up at five o’clock cooking down split pea soup to have with homemade bread.

Good morning! Happy Thursday. A cold start, you might need the choke on your motor. Mostly clear, the sun is rising and 47 degrees in Delmar, NY. ๐ŸŒ… Calm wind.

Up a little after five to cook ๐Ÿณ and get started on my day. Needed to run to the rest room and then I needed to have coffee โ˜• and get that pea soup cooking down. A half pound of spinach, onions, stir fry vegetables, a crust of whole wheat flour and water plus two eggs, a bit of milk and corn starch topped with a bit of Parmesan was breakfast. Dinner last night was pizza ๐Ÿ• but not that American crap way. A simple whole wheat flour and water crust, several paste and other tomatoes that were starting to mold a bit run through the food processor with a garlic clove and a bunch of spices with flour to harden, topped with chopped onions and spinach and a bit of Parmesan. ๐Ÿฅฆ I do eat a lot of spinach, I like fiber. Fills your stomach up fully without many calories.

Lately I’ve been a been a little nostalgic ๐ŸŽถ and listening to a lot of country music from the early 2000s like back in college. Not that I’d ever want to go back to those days with all those trials and tribulations of youth and far less money but life was good before inflation kind of ruined everything. I think it’s September 11th and just the autumn weather that takes me back to the first year back at Hudson Valley Community College, my first experience with much urban life, and being on my own, having a car, being able to go up to the woods whenever I wanted to. ๐ŸŽ„

Out walking around 6:45 AM this morning. ๐Ÿšถ‍โ™€๏ธ Definitely a beautiful morning for the walk, should be a great ride down through the gorge to work. ๐Ÿšฒ I tasted some of that pea soup, it’s delicious, I’ll bring some for work and probably have some more for dinner. Might end up freezing the rest so I can have it later in the weekend, obviously with some fresh bread. ๐Ÿต Might be a good way to end Saturday after riding trail most of the day up at Thacher Park. ๐Ÿšต‍โ™€๏ธ I am starting to run low on bananas, ๐ŸŒ I might stop and get just them at Hannaford during the evening commute home. Other then that my pantry is pretty solid.

Today will be sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 70 degrees at 3pm. Two degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around September 26th. Maximum dew point of 50 at 6pm. Calm wind becoming north around 6 mph in the morning. A year ago, we had cloudy skies in the morning with more sun in the afternoon. The high last year was 76 degrees. The record high of 95 was set in 1895.

I called the General yesterday ๐Ÿšš and guess what I’m on call back list regarding when they can do the passenger airbag inflator recall work. I figured with all the notices and social media ads I’ve gotten about replacing the airbag inflator, they’d have a ton in stock at this point and I could just drop the truck off in a week or two and have it back the next day. Nope, they took down my information but couldn’t promise me an appointment at this time.

Called back the doctor, ๐Ÿ“ž and after a bit of phone tag ๐Ÿ‘ฉ‍โš•๏ธ they want to do some more testing about my pissing problem.  Didn’t catch it right away, as my phone is set up to automatically go to voice mail. ๐Ÿ“จ Heck of it is since I’ve not been eating so many zucchini and overnight oatmeal, I’ve not had such a pissing problem.๐Ÿšฝ  I kind of don’t want to spend more money getting tests, as I think it’s mostly in my head at this point, to blame on my diet, but they said some of the initial rounds of test were inclusive. ๐Ÿ“‹They can’t schedule me until another two weeks, so at that point I’ll re-evaluate if I find myself needing to piss too much. I really think the key is stay away from coffee and overnight oatmeal before road trips, especially my October trip if I’m thinking West Virginia.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:49 pm with sun having an altitude of 48.2° from the due south horizon (-22.7° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 5.4 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 6:20 pm with the sun in the west (266°). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west (272°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 6:57 pm after setting for 2 minutes and 54 seconds with dusk around 7:23 pm, which is one minute and 47 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the First Quarter ๐ŸŒ“ Moon in the south-southwest (198°) at an altitude of 18° from the horizon, 233,527 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 7:58 pm. At sunset, look for clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 66 degrees. The dew point will be 50 degrees. There will be a north breeze at 6 mph. Today will have 12 hours and 16 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 2 minutes and 52 seconds over yesterday.

Yesterday, I went for an evening walk ๐Ÿšถ‍โ™€๏ธ and went through my dresser and pulled out most the XXL clothes and put them away in the crawl space, and started to go through the hand-me-downs I got from the late John W. Some are XXL unfortunately, I only meant to get XL but I’ll try them on. ๐Ÿ‘• Going to wash them though before putting them with the other clothes, as some of them have a bit of an old man smell to them. The pizza I had was good ๐Ÿ•, very filling, didn’t really need a desert. Lights were out before 8:15 PM though I did listen to a podcast or two on my phone before getting fully asleep but that’s fine, I’m usually up by 5 AM most mornings to start cooking and getting a jump start on my morning.

Totally getting sold on going down to Canaan Heights West Virginia sometime after Columbus Day Weekend ๐Ÿ‚ to mountain bike, hike, camp and see the sights. I mean I’m not 100% on this and it could change, but it would be fun. Probably start the week up Wellsboro PA-area to ride some of the Pine Creek Gorge Trail. Not sure how much farther south I’d go in West Viriginia, maybe Dolly Sods, but I would rather focus on Canaan Heights, Blackwater Falls State Park and the Canaan Wildlife Refuge as I haven’t spent nearly enough time up that way.

Tonight will be mostly clear ๐ŸŒƒ, with a low of 46 degrees at 6am. Four degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around October 1st. Light northwest wind. In 2022, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 51 degrees. The record low of 31 occurred back in 1962.

I’ve been starting to look more deeply into the future of the blog. ๐Ÿ“ I can bitch about the cost of running it but it won’t make it go away. I kind of would miss not doing it, so it’s probably worth the money to me. I do want to re-work the data structure, make things more efficient and maybe remove more of the custom code and try to make it use as much of built-in WordPress code as possible. ๐Ÿ‘จ‍๐Ÿ’ป I could bring my laptop home and work on this over the weekend, especially if it’s going to be rainy. The big difficulty might be the transition — taking down the old data structure and replacing it with the new one, and getting all the URL rewrites perfected before going live. I don’t know any way to do this completely without taking at least part of the blog offline to do the change over. ๐Ÿคท‍โ™‚๏ธ I might also look at implementing Google AdSense, so I can get some advertising revenue, to cover the costs of doing the blog. I don’t love that idea — there is too much advertising pollution already, but I get tired of ever inflating costs, even if it really is a smaller part of the budget that that I’m making more money at work. ๐Ÿ’ธ

A chance of showers throughout the weekend with more sun on Sunday. ๐ŸŒฆ Saturday, a chance of showers, mainly after 2pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 66. East wind 3 to 6 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible. Maximum dew point of 52 at 10am. Sunday, a chance of showers. Partly sunny, with a high near 68. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Maximum dew point of 56 at 1pm. Typical average high for the weekend is 72 degrees.

I won’t say it’s a banner weekend this weekend, ๐ŸŒฆ but maybe not a wash out. Still will be good enough to do the Nature Bus to Thacher Park. Saves some money and it’s a fun day, plus I went out camping last weekend. ๐Ÿ• Maybe next weekend I’ll get out again, though the very long-range forecast doesn’t look all that great in all honestly. Columbus Day Weekend, which is two weeks from Saturday might be better. โ›ต ๐Ÿ‚ Only time will tell, though it seems like autumn will be late this year.

South Along Lake George

I might have fifteenth weeks of trips planned between now and November with maybe three weekends I can get away โ›บ

That’s kind of just the nature of the beast got to pick and choose which adventures to take, noting that some trips in November wouldn’t be a bad thing – such as a Stoney Pond State Forest and Madison County trip before rifle season and the snow.

Good morning! Rain and 59 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜” Calm wind. The dew point is 57 degrees. A half inch of rain is expected before it ends tomorrow around 6 am.

Another dark morning ๐Ÿง‘‍๐Ÿณ baking bread ๐Ÿž and making up rice, lentils and black beans ๐Ÿฒ for the upcoming week. Mom has butternut squash for dinner with chicken and now I’m thinking I got to get some of that from the farmers market or grocery store as it’s so good. The weekend is over but I’m dreaming of future trips. But maybe not next weekend, as it looks kind of rainy. Too bad it couldn’t rain on the weekdays next weekend like it is raining this Monday.

Back to work on the earlier local bus ๐Ÿš as it’s rainy day โ˜” and I’m going to walk laps in the Plaza before climbing the stairs and getting down to work. Still working downtown for the time being , to wet to ride to work. The rest of the week though looks good for riding to and from work though depending on the final weekend forecast I might take off Friday and maybe Monday to head out of town but where is to be decided. So many dreams of future trips, as soon as I got back from Rensselarville State Forest.

Today will have showers likely, mainly before 3pm. Cloudy ๐ŸŒฆ, with a high of 64 degrees at 1pm. 10 degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around October 9th. Maximum dew point of 62 at 3pm. Calm wind becoming north around 6 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning, which became light rain by afternoon. It became sticky as the day progressed. The high last year was 80 degrees. The record high of 91 was set in 1891.

Midday I will have to walk up to Market 32 ๐Ÿ›’ to get contact solution as I’m out. And maybe a few other things for my pantry though I’m pretty much set. Hopefully it won’t be raining too hard midday. Worse comes to worse I can bike ๐Ÿšฒ over to Hannaford after work or I guess drive. But I’d rather avoid that if possible.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:51 pm with sun having an altitude of 49.3° from the due south horizon (-21.5° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 5.2 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 6:25 pm with the sun in the west (267°). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west (274°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 7:02 pm after setting for 2 minutes and 54 seconds with dusk around 7:28 pm, which is one minute and 47 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the Waxing Crescent ๐ŸŒ’ Moon in the west-southwest (237°) at an altitude of 10° from the horizon, 242,172 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 8:04 pm. At sunset, look for rain ๐ŸŒง and temperatures around 62 degrees. The dew point will be 59 degrees. There will be a north-northwest breeze at 6 mph. Today will have 12 hours and 25 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 2 minutes and 51 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will have a chance of showers, mainly before 2am. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 56 degrees at 5am. Five degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around September 8th. Maximum dew point of 60 at 6pm. Northwest wind 6 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible. In 2022, we had light rain in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It was sticky. It got down to 63 degrees. The record low of 32 occurred back in 1959.

Waiting and watching the weekend forecast. ๐Ÿ˜• I don’t think this early in the week it’s set in stone. Saturday, partly sunny, with a high near 72. Maximum dew point of 56 at 11am. Sunday, a chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 70. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Maximum dew point of 60 at 11am. Typical average high for the weekend is 72 degrees.

Looking ahead, there are 8 weeks until Average Night is Below Freezing ๐ŸŒŒ when the sun will be setting at 4:36 pm with dusk at 5:05 pm (Standard Time). On that day in 2022, we had partly cloudy and temperatures between 49 and 36 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 50 degrees. We hit a record high of 69 back in 1964. I’ll have to once again fix the air leaks around my door ๐Ÿšช and get out the little space heater and electric blanket. But hopefully not for a while.

Adams, MA

The mornings and evenings are dark but it’s hot ๐ŸŒ‡

Not so much heat and humidity at this hour but certainly later on. That said with the earlier sunsets and lower sun angle it cools off by evening but still rather sticky.

Good morning! What day is it? A dark start to the Hump Day, of course. Held off my morning walk for a while, because it was so dark. Fog ๐ŸŒซ and 69 degrees in Delmar, NY for the morning walk in Delmar. Calm wind. The dew point is 67 degrees. The muggy weather ends next Tuesday around noontime. ๐Ÿ˜“ Summer arrived in September.

Out walking this morning, though I held off a bit before it got a brighter out. ๐ŸŒ‡ In the mean time I was down in my kitchen kneading some quick-rise dough with baking powder to make a crust to use with the eggs, spinach, and tomatoes. ๐Ÿ… Mom brought over a big basket of tomatoes, which not wanting them to go bad, I took several of the paste tomatoes ran them through the food processor, added Italian spices and roasted red pepper a bit of salt, cooked them down in a frying pan ๐Ÿฅ˜ with onions, then fried up some eggs and put it on top with parmigiana cheese. Good breakfast. Wish I had made up more coffee rather then reheating what I have but time is getting late — and I’m drousey.

Going to ride Blackie to work again ๐Ÿšต‍โ™€๏ธ and then probably take the bus back home in the evening as it’s going to be another hot one. Burn some calories, save a buck thirty. It’s always nice going down to the gorge, and the Madison Avenue Hill isn’t that bad now I’ve done it a lot of times. ๐ŸšŒ I figure in the evening, I’ll ride down to the old Union Station on Broadway, catch the express back home. It wouldn’t be pleasant paddling through the gorge, though neither will be the traffic riding on the bus this evening, but at least it will be air conditioned most likely and I’m not driving. ๐Ÿ˜… ๐Ÿš— ๐Ÿš™ ๐Ÿš• ๐ŸšŒ

Today will be sunny and hot โ˜€, with a high of 91 degrees at 3pm. 13 degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 71 at 11am. Heat index values as high as 97. Yuck. I left the shades down in my office earlier to keep things nice a cool. Calm wind becoming northwest around 6 mph in the afternoon. A year ago, we had light rain in the morning with a few breaks of sun the afternoon. It was humid. The high last year was 67 degrees. The record high of 91 was set in 2018.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:55 pm with sun having an altitude of 53.9° from the due south horizon (-16.9° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 4.4 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 6:46 pm with the sun in the west (273°). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west (280°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 7:24 pm after setting for 2 minutes and 56 seconds with dusk around 7:50 pm, which is one minute and 45 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 8:27 pm. At sunset, look for mostly clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 84 degrees. The dew point will be 70 degrees. The heat index around sunset will be 68. โ›ฑ There will be a calm wind. Today will have 12 hours and 59 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 2 minutes and 49 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be mostly clear ๐ŸŒƒ, with a low of 68 degrees at 5am. 12 degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 71 at 8pm. Calm wind. In 2022, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became partly cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It was somewhat humid. It got down to 59 degrees. The record low of 36 occurred back in 1962.

Last night I got home after taking the bus ๐Ÿš had a quick dinner, ran down to the library ๐Ÿ“š and got the books I had on reserve, came home sat in bed next to the fan ๐Ÿ› read for a while and was asleep by nine. Tired and it was hot. I think this was the first really hot and humid day of the summer. In September, after Labor Day I know. Eat probably too much frozen mango and peaches but it made things nice and cool.

Unstable but slightly cooler weather for the weekend. โ›ˆ๏ธ Saturday, showers likely, with thunderstorms also possible after 2pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 82. Chance of precipitation is 70%. Maximum dew point of 73 at 12pm. Sunday, a chance of showers, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after 2pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 79. Chance of precipitation is 70%. Maximum dew point of 69 at 11am. Typical average high for the weekend is 77 degrees.

This weekend, while not looking all that great, might still be good for heading out to Thacher Park on the Nature Bus ๐ŸšŒ for a while and doing some biking ๐Ÿšต‍โ™€๏ธ and reading ๐Ÿ“š in the hammock, and enjoying things, assuming it’s not too wet. Certainly it’s easy and quick now with the more direct bus to Thacher Park and the bike. Plus it would be good to cut expenses at least this week, because it’s been an expensive few weeks with all the trips I’ve been doing plus the healthier food I’m putting into my body. ๐Ÿ I wasn’t thrilled to hear that people expect gas prices to remain high all autumn — that said I”m still thinking about some kind of big autumn trip with lots of smaller ones, before snow flies. But if all else fails, there’s always Rensselearville State Forest for a weekend trip.

Looking ahead but maybe not forward to the darkness, are 3 weeks until More Night then Day ๐ŸŒŒ when the sun will be setting at 6:46 pm with dusk at 7:12 pm. On that day in 2022, we had partly cloudy, rain showers and temperatures between 68 and 50 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 70 degrees. We hit a record high of 89 back in 2017.

Wetlands

You can just sit there a-thinking on your velvet throne ๐Ÿ’บ

My bed certainly isn’t velvet but in the darkness of the morning feels like it. Some DONOVAN to start out the Tuesday morning it would seem, though not only are the evenings getting darker so are the mornings as autumn approaches in a little over a month. September 23rd at two AM starts autumn. Autumn happens ๐Ÿ‚early on a Saturday.

Good morning! Happy Tuesday. Partly cloudy and 56 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ›… There is a north-northwest breeze at 6 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 53 degrees. Not the brightest of the mornings, in part due to the clouds. That said with the sun rising now it’s getting brighter ๐Ÿ”† out.

Got bananas ๐ŸŒ at the store yesterday along with frozen fruit and sugar free maple ๐Ÿ syrup so I’m thinking it would be a good morning for pancakes ๐Ÿฅž. Yesterday was eggs and the day before cream of wheat with Greek yogurt and lemon ๐Ÿ‹. It’s good to keep breakfast interesting.

I forgot to put the red kidney beans on the stove ๐Ÿฒ before walking ๐Ÿšถ this morning but they can soak and they’ll cook quicker this evening. With the days growing shorter in the evening it’s not like I have that much time in the evening to ride or hike before it’s dark out.

Today will be partly sunny, then gradually becoming sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 78 degrees at 4pm. Three degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around September 5th. Maximum dew point of 55 at 10am. North wind 6 to 10 mph. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning, remaining cloudy in the afternoon. It was sticky. The high last year was 81 degrees. The record high of 93 was set in 1916.

Going to ride to work again. ๐Ÿšฒ Fixed that missing bolt ๐Ÿ”ฉ on Blackie ๐Ÿšต rack, turned out all of the braze on bolts are standard M5 Allen bolts and I found a matching one from my old bike. It was nice, I didn’t have to go to the hardware store, got rid of annoying rattle and let me ride to the store and get a lot of groceries. I can’t believe I spent another $60 but I should be good for the week now. Really had that rack and basket loaded down heavy and took it easy over the bumps but I didn’t have any issues.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:59 pm with sun having an altitude of 59.2° from the due south horizon (-11.6° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 3.6 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 7:10 pm with the sun in the west (281°). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-northwest (287°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 7:49 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 2 seconds with dusk around 8:16 pm, which is one minute and 35 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the First Quarter ๐ŸŒ“ Moon in the southwest (221°) at an altitude of 19° from the horizon, 240,454 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 8:55 pm. At sunset, look for mostly clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 73 degrees. The dew point will be 54 degrees. There will be a north-northeast breeze at 6 mph. Today will have 13 hours and 40 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 2 minutes and 40 seconds over yesterday.

Last night I went down to the Normans Kill Preserve briefly ๐Ÿž before going to Hannaford to go shopping. I was originally thinking of going to the hardware store and/or shopping on the way home from work on my bicycle, but then when I figured out I could fix my bike without visiting at the hardware store, ๐Ÿ‘ฉ‍๐Ÿ”ง I figured I would just to go to Hannaford after spending some time at the preserve. There was a few blackberries left down at the preserve, but we are starting to get beyond that part of the year.

That was quite the grocery haul ๐Ÿ›’ I had riding in the back of Blackie on my way back from Hannaford. I had to use the bungee cord to keep the load tied down. I had a big bag of onions, sweet peppers, a pineapple, frozen fruit, peaches, beans, yogurt, cottage cheese, spinach, edamame and several other things I can’t remember all tied down. ๐Ÿ˜ฎ ๐Ÿ‘ ๐Ÿ ๐Ÿฅœ Made for a heavy ride, and I was a bit worried about how the basket would hold up over the bumps, but there was no problem.

Tonight will be mostly clear ๐ŸŒƒ, with a low of 54 degrees at 6am. Six degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around September 12th. Maximum dew point of 55 at 8pm. North wind around 6 mph becoming calm after midnight. In 2022, we had cloudy skies in the evening, which became thunderstorm by the early hours of the morning. It was sticky. It got down to 68 degrees. The record low of 44 occurred back in 1988.

Not sure what the plans for this evening, ๐ŸŒ† but gets difficult as the evening are rather dark early, so I probably don’t have time for a ride to Voorheesville. I could do a ride out to Five Rivers if I had a quick dinner, ๐Ÿฆ but I also want to have time to cook up those light red kidney beans so later in the week they can be either a snack or a meal with maple syrup or maybe cooked with eggs. I also want to hard boil some eggs for a quick go to for protein ๐Ÿฅš in the morning or even for the dinner. Wednesday I’ll also ride to work, but come Thursday and Friday ๐ŸšŒ it looks like it will be back to busing it to work, as it will rain. But both days I expect to be able to the take express on in.

Today in 1971, twenty of the Camden 28 were arrested. They were a group of “Catholic left” anti-Vietnam War activists who in 1971 planned and executed a raid on a Camden, New Jersey draft board. ๐Ÿคœ The raid resulted in a high-profile criminal trial of the activists that was seen by many as a referendum on the Vietnam War and as an example of successful use of jury nullification.

Cool almost autumn like weekend ahead. ๐Ÿ Saturday, a chance of showers after 2pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 74. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Maximum dew point of 64 at 10am. Sunday, mostly sunny, with a high near 73. Maximum dew point of 57 at 11am. Typical average high for the weekend is 81 degrees. Saturday is looking less wet, I’ll have to see which day my parents want to do the clam bake. ๐Ÿฆช

One month ๐Ÿ“… from now will be the concluding day of calendar summer ๐Ÿ‚ when the sun will be setting at 6:54 pm with dusk at 7:21 pm. Days by then are much shorter, kiddos back in school ๐Ÿšธ . The air will have the pungently sweet smell of corn silage as they’ll be chopping soon. The boys of fall.

Great Blue Heron

Those forty inch jeans ๐Ÿ‘– don’t really fit anymore and are so baggy

I really need to get some new jeans that are better fitting though I only got this pair a few months ago, not realizing what was despite the warnings I was given. Especially because the Salvation Army shirt I got is so nicely fitting. Still I’m hesitant to invest in a new clothes of any expense as I know what I’m up against in a culture that prioritizes low quality calories, excessive sugar and fat. I’m good but the social pressures are so bad, and it can be lonely eating things that are actually half decent for you.

Good morning! Happy Tuesday. Rain and 66 degrees at the Elm Ave Park and Ride. โ˜” There is a north-northeast breeze at 5 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 66 degrees. The skies will clear tomorrow around 2 pm.

Too rainy ๐ŸŒง๏ธ for the morning walk and I wasn’t moving fast enough to catch the earlier bus ๐Ÿš downtown. The rain let up and I walked down to the later express ๐Ÿšbut in part I delayed as I didn’t really want to do laps in the Plaza in part because that would add another time up and down the eighteen flights at work and I didn’t want to do that. Lousy excuse but I’m still not doing elevators at work.๐Ÿ›— It’s stupid, I’m not afraid of the state elevators and I’m sure the state police ๐Ÿšจ would come and rescue me when the elevator breaks down but I like the exercise of climbing ๐Ÿง—‍โ™‚๏ธ all those stairs. The worse thing that could happen is I get trapped in the elevator with the head of the Assembly Republicans and after a few awkward seconds maybe talk about deer ๐ŸฆŒ hunting or something in the wilderness.

Morning was eggs ๐Ÿณ with a bunch of onions, spinach, and peppers. Lots of fiber and protein there. Had a few cups of coffee โ˜• though I really should cut back on the fluids as I’ve been having to piss a lot due to 6000pall the water I’ve been consuming from the watermelon ๐Ÿ‰, zucchini ๐Ÿ†, egg plant and the fruit ๐Ÿ I’ve been eating. Last night was breaded egg plant with panto breadcrumbs using egg as a glue, with a sauce made from tomatoes, jalapeños, onions and Italian spices and a bit of dried Parmesan on top. Broccoli ๐Ÿฅฆ on the side. It was good in the broiler all crispy.

Today will have showers, with thunderstorms also possible after 3pm. ๐ŸŒฆ High of 71 degrees at 3pm. 11 degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around September 24th. Maximum dew point of 69 at 2pm. ๐Ÿ–๏ธ Northeast wind around 6 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning with a few breaks of sun the afternoon. The high last year was 87 degrees. The record high of 96 was set in 1959.

Another work day today, then one tomorrow, then it’s off to camp in the Adirondacks. ๐Ÿ• I’m not sure how nice Friday will be and Saturday looks chilly up north, but I might end up bringing both the heater and bug screen, along with tarps. ๐Ÿ“š I’m sure Lynne is going to ask if I want to go to the Guilderland Meeting regarding the Senior Home Development in the Pine Bush ๐ŸŒฒ but I’ll see if I can get out of that because I don’t feel that great, and I’m tired of attending meetings regarding the Pine Bush, yelling and screaming and being mocked in the press. ๐Ÿ“ฐ  I really have other priorities, and I’d like to get books from the library and get packed for camping. I doubt I’ll leave before early on Thursday morning, but if I get ready, it’s less to do tomorrow. Pine Bush stuff is kind of important, but I don’t want to be on the forefront, and so many of these hearings and being shoved down by the town board is kind of boring. Plus I have salmon ๐ŸŸ to cook up tonight with spinach, and I’m looking forward to that on this rainy night.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 1:01 pm with sun having an altitude of 61.5° from the due south horizon (-9.3° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 3.3 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 7:20 pm with the sun in the west-northwest (284°). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-northwest (290°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 7:59 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 4 seconds with dusk around 8:28 pm, which is one minute and 27 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 9:07 pm. At sunset, look for rain ๐ŸŒง and thunderstorms ๐ŸŒฉ and temperatures around 70 degrees. The dew point will be 67 degrees. There will be a calm wind. Today will have 13 hours and 58 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 2 minutes and 32 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will have a chance of showers and thunderstorms before 1am, then a slight chance of showers between 1am and 2am. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 65 degrees at 4am. Four degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 68 at 6pm. East wind around 5 mph becoming south after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. In 2022, we had mostly clear skies. It got down to 58 degrees. The record low of 41 occurred back in 1972.

In 1969, the Woodstock Music Festival Opens on Max Yasgur’s dairy farm in Bethel, ๐ŸŽง ๐ŸŽธ๐ŸŽท much to the distaste of his neighbors and fellow community members. ๐Ÿฎ I’m sure he just thought of it as a way to make some money on a wet, muddy field that wasn’t growing much hay or silage that year due to the weather. He used to run the largest dairy farm in Sullivan County. Of course, they cut his milk contract in subsequent years, and was forced out of the dairy business. His son would go on to be the Sullivan County Clerk some years later. And the farm became a tourist destination in recent years. ๐Ÿ—‘ The hippies trashed the land more then Yasgur could have ever expected, to say nothing of what they did to the neighbors. And he just wanted a little money from the hippies, and expected after the weekend, the muddy field could be tilled up and put back in production.

On this day in 1970, President Richard Nixon completes the break from the gold standard by ending convertibility of the United States dollar into gold by foreign investors. ๐Ÿ’ฐ Much was made out of it, but truth be told the US hadn’t been pegging it’s currency to gold since the 1930s and by the 1960s the value of the US currency had grown with the size of the economy and inflation, it was getting harder and harder to come up with enough gold to settle the currency, especially as investors sought more gold as a hedge of growing inflation as the sixties slid into the 1970s. ๐Ÿ“ˆ Truth be told, regardless had the gold standard ended or not, the gas crisis would have still occurred, and it would have done a lot of damage to economy, though a lot of that was baked in after the sixties, and all the post-war expansion including the baby boom and the construction of the Interstate system which produced a enormous boom that was petering out by the seventies as major legs of the system were finalized. ๐Ÿ›ฃ

Cool but sunny this weekend. ๐Ÿ˜Ž Saturday, mostly sunny, with a high near 75. Maximum dew point of 58 at 2pm. Sunday, sunny, with a high near 84. Maximum dew point of 64 at 4pm. Typical average high for the weekend is 82 degrees. Actually, Sunday will be fairly warm and muggy. But Friday the high is only 66 degrees with rain showers. I am going to bring my heater up north I guess this weekend, along with the screen tent as the bugs may be bad. ๐ŸŽช I wasn’t sure if I was going to bring my kayak up north, but Sunday could be a very nice day for kayaking on the Mohawk River around Moss Island, ๐Ÿ›ถ especially if I do a bike ride first. Although do I want to spend more time at the Potholers at Piseco-Powley? ๐ŸŠ‍โ™€๏ธ Decisions! ๐Ÿค”

Looking ahead, there are 11 weeks until Halloween ๐ŸŽƒ when the sun will be setting at 5:51 pm with dusk at 6:19 pm. On that day in 2022, we had partly cloudy, rain showers and temperatures between 64 and 37 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 56 degrees. We hit a record high of 75 back in 2019.

When Big Bay turns north to Piseco Lake it becomes too shallow to navigate
