Fantastic morning for going back to work ๐Ÿ’ฆ

Going to need to turn on my beloved brass lamp when I get into the office. Definitely not riding my bike to work today but I will try to get in early so I can walk in the Plaza for a while before work. I’ve had my work email turned off on my phone, I can only imagine the size of the research production book since the week I was gone.

Good morning! Monday’s come back around again. Got to go back and chase the money, lol. ๐Ÿ˜‚ Rain and 45 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜” Calm wind. Temperatures will drop below freezing at Wednesday around 11 pm. โ˜ƒ๏ธ

I am glad fresh homemade bread ๐Ÿž is cooking this morning as is pea soup. ๐Ÿฒ Also honey butternut squash and another squash I got at Annuto’s yesterday. ๐Ÿ Apple – banana – oatmeal ๐ŸŒ pancakes ๐Ÿฅž are cooking. Going to be a good breakfast. If time wasn’t so tight I probably would have cooked many of those things in West Virginia but I did not. Such a dark morning but with good eats. ๐Ÿ˜‹

Today will rain before 2pm, then a chance of showers, mainly between 2pm and 5pm. Patchy fog before 10am. ๐ŸŒง High of 48 degrees at 1pm. Eight degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around November 18th. Calm wind becoming northwest 5 to 9 mph in the morning. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. The high last year was 64 degrees. The record high of 80 was set in 1946. 1.2 inches of snow fell back in 2020.โ„

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:40 pm with sun having an altitude of 33.7ยฐ from the due south horizon (-37.2ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 9 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 5:13 pm with the sun in the west-southwest (245ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-southwest (252ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 5:53 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 3 seconds with dusk around 6:20 pm, which is one minute and 22 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 6:55 pm. At sunset, look for rain ๐ŸŒง and temperatures around 47 degrees. There will be a northwest breeze at 9 mph. Tomorrow will have 10 hours and 25 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 2 minutes and 35 seconds over today.

This evening ๐ŸŒƒ I need to get to the laundromat ๐Ÿ‘– and wash the dirty clothes from camp and get groceries. I could have gone yesterday but I was dog ๐Ÿถ tired ๐Ÿ˜ด and I figured the laundromat is always packed on Sunday evening. Still tired today but so be it.

Tonight will be mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฅ, with a low of 33 degrees at 6am. Three degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around November 10th. Northwest wind 7 to 10 mph. In 2022, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became partly cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 37 degrees. The record low of 18 occurred back in 1988.

Might be a great weekend on tap. ๐Ÿ˜Ž Saturday, partly sunny, with a high near 58. Sunday, partly sunny, with a high near 59. Typical average high for the weekend is 54 degrees. That said I’m not taking off next Monday for a long weekend to Madison County until I have better confirmation of the weekends weather.

As previously noted, there are 2 weeks until Average Night Below Freezing ๐ŸŒŒ when the sun will be setting at 4:36 pm with dusk at 5:05 pm (Standard Time). On that day in 2022, we had partly cloudy and temperatures between 49 and 36 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 50 degrees. We hit a record high of 69 back in 1964.

Pine Creek

Paw Paw and Heading North ๐Ÿพ

Good morning! Happy Saturday. Today I Head North! Cloudy โ›… and 67 degrees in Canaan Heights, WV. Super mild! There is a south-southeast breeze at 13 mph with gusts up to 25 mph. ๐ŸŒฌ๏ธ That wind is roaring around, unstable weather coming. But I’m heading off the Appalachian Front shortly.

Up at six o’clock taking camp down. ๐Ÿ•” Still quite dark out. To get a jump start on the day and limit pee breaks, ๐Ÿšฝ I hard boiled eggs ๐Ÿฅš last night and will have two eggs for protein with a banana ๐ŸŒ for sugar and some peppers maybe later on. โ˜• If I decide I really need coffee I can get some in Keyser this morning. Took the tent down last night โ›บ and packed and organized as much as I could last night, including writing much of this blog post last night. ๐Ÿ“

Today will likely rain โ˜” , mainly after 3pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 67 at six AM. Southwest wind 5 to 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. A year ago, we had cloudy skies in the morning with more sun in the afternoon. The high last year was 55 degrees. The record high of 78 was set in 1971. 2.0 inches of snow fell back in 1952.โ„

Today it’s off to Paw Paw Tunnel and ultimately Maryland then onward Pennsylvania. ๐Ÿšฒ The tunnel, part of the C – I Canal National Park Trailway looks neat, it’s a canal through a mountain. Sunday’s forecast looks very wet, so I don’t know if I’ll bother to go to Asaph Run in hoping to bike the Pine Creek Rail Trail after a quick overnight camp. โ›บ

It’s possible that I’ll decide to either do my overnight at County Bridge Campground or maybe if time allows, Long Pond State Forest in New York State. ๐Ÿ›ฃ๏ธ The later is free ๐Ÿ†“ and probably more on the route home, plus come Sunday it’s less than 2 hours home from there. If I do the later, I would probably take Interstate 80 from I 99 to I 81.

Or I could possibly overnight at the Paw Paw Campground, I’m just worried about of the drive in one day. ๐Ÿš˜ We’ll over six hours driving Interstate 81 which goes through several big cities like Harrisburg and Scranton versus the relatively quiet I-99. Really don’t want to drive more than four hours a day, with one hour play time and four hours to hike, bicycle or visit parks. ๐Ÿž

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:40 pm with sun having an altitude of 34.3ยฐ from the due south horizon (-36.5ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 8.8 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 5:16 pm with the sun in the west-southwest (246ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-southwest (253ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 5:55 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 2 seconds with dusk around 6:23 pm, which is one minute and 24 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the Full ๐ŸŒ Moon in the east-northeast (75ยฐ) at an altitude of 6ยฐ from the horizon, 232,615 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 6:58 pm. At sunset, look for mostly clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 63 degrees. The dew point will be 51 degrees. There will be a northwest breeze at 13 mph. Tomorrow will have 10 hours and 30 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 2 minutes and 37 seconds over today.

Yesterday, I hiked 15 miles in Dolly Sods. ๐Ÿšถ Not a bad day but most of the day was grayer then I would have hoped. ๐ŸŒฅ Lot of haze too. Hiked in from the Canaan Valley Wildlife Refuge and along much of the ridge overlooking the wildlife refuge. It was good, I visited some of the more remote places in the wilderness, though still a lot of people exploring there. Sort of hoped to make it across to the top of the Allegheny Front and maybe Bears Rocks ๐Ÿป but time was tight with the early sunset ๐ŸŒ‡, no overnight parking ๐Ÿ…ฟ signs where I was parked and simply the trail I planned to cross the Red Creek with – Dobbins Grade is low water crossng not the case this week. ๐Ÿธ Plus the beaver dam. In the evening around sunset walked the new boardwalk in the wildlife refuge off Freeman Drive. Headed back to camp, had a nice dinner and some beer ๐Ÿป, took down the tent and organized my gear.

I haven’t posted many pictures ๐Ÿ“ธ to either Facebook or the blog due to connection issues here but also because I’m trying to maximize my remaining time here in West Virginia. Time is precious. โŒ› I figure all next week I can go through my photos and start sharing them, bringing back memories of what was on my trip.

Tonight will have mostly cloudy โ˜, with a low of 41 degrees at 6am. Six degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around October 11th. Northwest wind 8 to 13 mph. In 2022, we had cloudy skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 29 degrees. The record low of 19 occurred back in 1969.

Sunday will rain starting around dawn. ๐ŸŒง๏ธHigh near 45. Northeast wind around 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

I’m expecting a wet ending to my vacation both Saturday night and definitely Sunday for the last leg of the trip home. ๐Ÿก It’s fine, it rained โ˜” on the way down here too at least through New York. The colors probably are pretty much gone for the return trip home I would assume. Then it looks to be cold next week once I’m home. Hoping to ride to work a few more times both ways before the time change but I’m not holding out my breath for too many days next week. ๐Ÿšฒ Might even need to turn the heat back on in my apartment. In contrast, it’s been so warm in West Virginia that I only used the propane heater on Sunday evening and Monday morning โ™จ๏ธ, the rest of the week it’s been shut off and locked ๐Ÿ”’ up.

In 1956, Elvis Presley receives a polio vaccination on national TV. ๐Ÿ’‰This single event is credited with raising immunization levels in the United States from 0.6% to over 80% in just six months.

Then next Saturday is Daylight Savings Time Ends ๐Ÿ›ฅ๏ธ when the sun will be setting at 5:46 pm with dusk at 6:14 pm. On that day in 2022, we had sunny, warm and temperatures between 71 and 46 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 54 degrees. We hit a record high of 76 back in 1994.

Already thinking next week about potentially a four day trip out to Madison County. ๐Ÿฎ Probably Stoney Pond and peddle around Cazenovia and the Cazenovia – Chittenango Rail Trail and possibly some of the single track mountain bike trails at Alfred Woodford and Tassel Hill. ๐Ÿšฒ Maybe take off the Monday before Election Day for a four day weekend as far away from politics as possible. Or the following Friday is Armstice Day aka Veterans Day Observed, so if I took off either Thursday or the following Monday, it’s another four day weekend. I want to get away one more time before rifle season ๐ŸฆŒ.

North East

I’m tuckered out ๐Ÿ›

Good day but a busy one with all that driving down from County Bridge Campground in Blossburg Penna to Cumberland Maryland, riding bike for 23 miles of the Chesapeake and Ohio Trail along with part of the Great Allegheny Passage then finally heading down to Canaan Heights WV. What a day, and there was still some daylight to set up camp too though

Good evening from West Virginia! Mostly clear and 43 degrees in Canaan Heights, WV. ๐ŸŒ  Breezy, ๏ธ16 mph breeze from the northwest ๐ŸŒฌ .

Got to camp around 6:30 pm in West Virginia, was a bit worried as the first few campsites I drove by where taken and I noticed a new sign on the way in that said camping at Designated Sites Only. โ›บ That said all of the old sites are still in service and have been improved a bit by the forest service and new sites added. It was a cold Sunday night, I had plenty of choices in the other eight or nine unoccupied sites. The nearest campsite to where I am id more than a third of a mile away.

Totally my fault, lol, ๐Ÿ˜‚ I wanted to maximize my time riding bike ๐Ÿšฒ on the Chesapeake and Ohio Trail and the Great Allegheny Passage Trails before heading down to Keyser to get supplies and ultimately head to camp. Didn’t help though that Waze had the wrong address programmed into it for Tractor Supply. ๐Ÿšœ I wanted to make sure I had a full propane tank for the next six nights as especially tonight I’m working the heater hard to stay warm – too late to find wood for camp, plus I’m dog ๐Ÿถ tired. Probably will retire to bed shortly in my truck though honestly I don’t want to sleep too soon as it’s going to be a long night and the sun rises late in West Virginia this time of year. 7:30 am tomorrow.

Tonight will be clear with a low of 27 degrees at 4 am. ๐ŸŒ‰ Winds will die down as the night progreses. In 2022, we had partly cloudy skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 39 degrees. The record low of 20 occurred back in 1969.

Tonight will have a First Quarter ๐ŸŒ“ Moon with 61% illuminated. At 8 PM, the moon was in the south (181ยฐ) at an altitude of 25ยฐ from the horizon, some 226,951 miles away from where you are looking up from the earth. ๐Ÿš€ At the state speed limit of 55 mph, you’ll make it there by April 11th. Buckle up for safety! ๐Ÿ’บ The Hunter ๐Ÿน Moon is on Saturday, October 28. The darkest hour is at 12:41 am, followed by dawn at 6:59 am, and sun starting to rise at 7:30 am in the east-southeast (104ยฐ) and last for 2 minutes and 59 seconds. Sunrise is one minute and 12 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ The golden hour ends at 7:56 am with sun in the east-southeast (111ยฐ). Tonight will have 13 hours and 12 minutes of darkness, an increase of 2 minutes and 44 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will be sunny โ˜€ with a high of 59 degrees at 3pm. Four degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around November 1st. Northwest wind 9 to 11 mph. A year ago, we had sunny skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. The high last year was 63 degrees. The record high of 81 was set in 1947. 0.5 inches of snow fell back in 2002.โ„

Looks like I picked an excellent week for vacation. โ›บ The director was jokingly giving me a hard time for once again canceling a vacation day and then taking another one off, but it was worth it looking at the forecast. I just kind of wished I had packed more then three or four t-shirts as they may be what I’m wearing with the warm weather. Almost bought a West Virginia t-shirt at Walmart earlier today.

It wasn’t perfect on Saturday though. Day one, the drive down to Pennsylvania was rainy the first part of the trip, โ˜” maybe more misty and drizzle not difficult driving, lots of color along many parts of Interstate 88, Warren Anderson’s expressway. ๐Ÿ‚ Some places were past peak but others had excellent color.

Got Cider Doughnuts ๐Ÿฉ ๐Ÿ, apple cider and apples at Aunnoto’s in Oneonta. The doughnuts while not quite warm where still very fresh and exceptionally good, especially the first one I had fresh in the parking lot. Maybe it’s because I’m not used to all that sugar and fats in doughnuts but I felt like it had an out of this world taste. ๐Ÿ˜‹ The cider was decent but more tart than I had imagined. Probably the breed of apples pressed. The apples I got where quite good I’ll be enjoying them throughout the trip.

Came much closer to runnung out of gas then I want to admit on the way down to o Binghamton ultimately getting gas in Harpursville. โ›ฝ Put in over 25 gallons of gas in a truck with a 26 gallons tank. ๐Ÿคฏ Hoping to get gas as close to the Pennsylvania to avoid higher prices with the high Pennsylvania gas tax but it turns out gas was more expensive in the Binghamton area then the Northern Tier of Pennsylvania. $4 a gallon gas, added $100 to the vacation bill. The good news is filling up there I avoided getting gas until I reach the Mason Dixon line, actually south of Cumberland for $3.35 a gallon. โ˜บ Vacation costs money ๐Ÿ’ต and my vacation is quite frugal so I shouldn’t bitch about gas prices too much.

The County Bridge Campground is still only $10 a night through New Years Eve ๐Ÿ’ฐ๐Ÿ’ธ when the PA DNCR is doing away with self registration honor pay in favor of online reservations with the out of state fee, reservation fee and whatever the rustic campground fee works out to be. Not such a great deal then for one night but whatever it’s not like I stay there much. Still ten dollars a night is a steal these days with inflation, especially as that’s what it cost I believe back in 2010. Obviously subsidized by all those fracking leases, though the fracking money is drying up for the commonwealth now.

In four weeks on November 19 the sun will be setting in the west-southwest (244ยฐ) at 4:31 pm (Standard Time),๐ŸŒ„ which is one hour, 32 minutes and 59 seconds earlier then tonight. In 2022 on that day, we had mostly sunny and temperatures between 39 and 21 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 48 and 31 degrees. The record high of 71 degrees was set back in 1921.

Looking ahead, 7:15 AM Sunrise โŒ›๏ธ is in 7 weeks, Days are Getting Longer โ˜€๏ธ is in 2 months and Christmas Eve ๐ŸŽ… is in 9 weeks.

Feeling a little sick this morning ๐Ÿคข

Feeling kind of sick this morning, but I’m doing okay, dragging myself to work. I figure after a good pan of eggs and maybe some grapes, I should be good to go. I think I’m just a bit sleepless looking forward to my vacation, or maybe I’m coming down with a minor cold. But I’m hoping to power through it and leave in about 24 hours to start heading south to Pennsylvania.

Good morning! Happy Friday Before October Vacation! Clouds, fog and 54 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜” There is a south-southeast breeze at 9 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 51 degrees. The skies will clear Monday around 4 am.

Not sure why suddenly this morning I felt so sick ๐Ÿคข though I wasn’t feeling great yesterday afternoon either. Started out like a cold with some congestion, achiness, exhaustion and now it’s progressed to more of a stomach bug. A few frequent visits to the toilet it would seem. ๐Ÿšฝ I really shouldn’t be in the office this morning, but it’s hard to call in sick the day before your vacation. I’ll wash my hands well, wear a muzzle and suck it up. Maybe it’s because I was up too late last night kneading bread and up to early to start cooking down the 15-bean soup ๐Ÿต, butternut squash ๐Ÿ† and two loaves of bread. ๐Ÿž Need to have a lot of bread ready to go as it’s not going to be easy to cook quality bread when I go down to West Virigina.

I got to the store last night an bought another pair of 34″ inch jeans. ๐Ÿ‘– I am amazed that I regularly fit into 34×32 inch jeans comfortably when at the beginning of the year I was regularly wearing 40×32 jeans and even they were tight. I don’t feel like I’ve lost a lot of weight but looking at photos I realize I have lost quite a bit of wait. Kind of weird how that sneaks up with you after healthy eating. I also got a bunch of supplies for camping and around the apartment, including flour to make up the bread last night. ๐Ÿž

Today will have showers likely, then showers and possibly a thunderstorm after 2pm. ๐ŸŒฆ High of 61 degrees at 2pm. Two degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around October 16th. Maximum dew point of 57 at 2pm. ๐Ÿ–๏ธ Southeast wind 9 to 11 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 57 degrees. The record high of 80 was set in 1965. There was a dusting of snow in 1952.โ„

This evening I need to run to the laundromat ๐Ÿ‘• to ensure I have sufficient clothing plus a pair of clothes to wear the following Monday to work when I come back from vacation. Then just a lot of packing. I just wasn’t feeling up to that last night, plus I needed to get some groceries, and needed a lot of the spices and supplies for cooking. I’ll do the best I can do tonight, but it might be raining out hard, so I might end up getting everything ready to pack come the morning. I do want to leave around 9 AM tomorrow, which I will go to the bank first, then maybe down to For the Love of Bacon, then Oneonta for Annutto’s Farm Stand then down to PA. Not a rush though as it’s going to be a rainy day.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:41 pm with sun having an altitude of 37.1° from the due south horizon (-33.7° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 7.9 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 5:28 pm with the sun in the west-southwest (250°). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-southwest (257°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 6:07 pm after setting for 2 minutes and 59 seconds with dusk around 6:34 pm, which is one minute and 33 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the First Quarter ๐ŸŒ“ Moon in the south (189°) at an altitude of 19° from the horizon, 230,138 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 7:09 pm. At sunset, look for rain ๐ŸŒง and thunderstorms ๐ŸŒฉ and temperatures around 60 degrees. The dew point will be 57 degrees. There will be a south-southeast breeze at 9 mph. Today will have 10 hours and 54 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 2 minutes and 45 seconds over yesterday.

I forgot to get Five Hour Energy Shots yesterday โ˜• so I figure I’ll just put a single cup of coffee in my refigerator overnight, and leave it at that. I don’t need that much caffeine, if I’m truly desperate I’ll stop somewhere and get coffee. ๐Ÿฅš Then hard boiled and bananas to snack on my trip down to Pennsylvania tomorrow. I might get energy shots though for Sunday’s trip to West Virigina, as there is even fewer places to pee on that leg of the trip and I don’t want to do much cooking but instead break camp early so I can go riding as time allows at

Tonight will rain and possibly a thunderstorm. ๐ŸŒง Low of 55 degrees at 5am. 15 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around September 13th. Maximum dew point of 57 at 6pm. ๐Ÿ–๏ธ Southeast wind 5 to 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible. In 2022, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 31 degrees. The record low of 17 occurred back in 1972.

I am looking forward to participating in some of those Udemy Courses now that the local library is offering them for free. ๐Ÿ“š

Tomorrow will rain. ๐ŸŒง High of 58 degrees at 12pm. One degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around October 22nd. Maximum dew point of 55 at 6am. ๐Ÿ–๏ธ Northwest wind 6 to 14 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 61 degrees. The record high of 81 was set in 1979. 0.2 inches of snow fell back in 1926.โ„

Looking ahead to Sunday, showers likely, mainly after 2pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 51. โ›… West wind 15 to 18 mph, with gusts as high as 33 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. Going to also be windy in West Virginia but more sun. Kind of a cold night to start out my first night at West Virigina but I’ll have my propane tank topped off in Keyser and I might hot tent if necessary. โ™จ๏ธ Figure going to be down there for nights, so I should pitch a tent, if onylt to store gear. โ›บ Typical average high for the weekend is 60 degrees.

Looking ahead, there are 5 weeks until Buy Nothing Day ๐Ÿ›๏ธ when the sun will be setting at 4:27 pm with dusk at 4:57 pm (Standard Time). On that day in 2022, we had partly sunny and temperatures between 49 and 24 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 46 degrees. We hit a record high of 70 back in 2014.

Bennington View

It’s definitely the second half of October ๐ŸŽƒ

Today the average high falls to 60 degrees though once we get beyond this weekend it might be a fair bit above average with a lot of sun. Less than two weeks until November, Thanksgiving is in five weeks. But the coming sunshine and warmer weather equals good news for the October road trip! Plus ample sunshine today.

Good morning! Fog ๐ŸŒซ and 45 degrees in Delmar, NY. Calm wind. The skies will clear around 8 am.

Oatmeal banana ๐ŸŒ pancakes this morning ๐Ÿฅž though I ran low on oatmeal so I ended up adding whole wheat flour to the mix and it was excellent. ๐Ÿ˜‹ I’ve been also adding baking soda and apple cider vinegar for extra browning and fluff (think elementary school volcanoes) and it works great along with shredded carrots for more crunch and fiber. ๐Ÿฅ• Lately I’ve been going through so many carrots, I’m virtually a rabbit ๐Ÿฐ farmer. Some day maybe, I’ve heard rabbit meat ๐Ÿฅฉ is an excellent source of lean protein on the homestead.

Today will have patchy fog before 8am. Otherwise, partly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 65 degrees at 3pm. Five degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around October 8th. Maximum dew point of 48 at 10am. Light south wind increasing to 5 to 10 mph in the morning. A year ago, we had cloudy skies. The high last year was 53 degrees. The record high of 79 was set in 1963. There was a dusting of snow in 1992.โ„

Should be a good day to ride to work. ๐Ÿšฒ Tomorrow though with the rain coming I’ll be busing ๐Ÿš it seems, first time since that one evening before Columbus Day Weekend. In two and a half weeks after the vacation I’ll be busing it every night due to the time change. ๐Ÿ•’ Sucks but it will make the mornings brighter ๐Ÿ”†. Maybe then I’ll get off my ass and do my morning walk ๐Ÿšถ again especially as I won’t be doing the evening bike ride. I’ve been enjoying my bicycle commutes, disappointed about tomorrow’s forecast but I’ll trade it for awesome weather on vacation.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:41 pm with sun having an altitude of 37.5° from the due south horizon (-33.3° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 7.8 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 5:30 pm with the sun in the west-southwest (251°). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-southwest (257°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 6:09 pm after setting for 2 minutes and 58 seconds with dusk around 6:36 pm, which is one minute and 34 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the First Quarter ๐ŸŒ“ Moon in the south-southwest (203°) at an altitude of 15° from the horizon, 232,459 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 7:10 pm. At sunset, look for partly cloudy skies ๐ŸŒƒ and temperatures around 61 degrees. The dew point will be 48 degrees. There will be a south breeze at 10 mph. Today will have 10 hours and 57 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 2 minutes and 45 seconds over yesterday.

Next week I’m going to be in West Virginia ๐Ÿ—ป at least that’s the plan. It should be a great week in the mountain state. Tonight I’m going to Walmart to get supplies for the trip, Maybe get another 34 inch pair of jeans. ๐Ÿ‘– I have 15 bean soup mix soaking in my refrigerator today and will enjoy it for lunch ๐Ÿฒ tomorrow and then dinner at camp โ›บ on Saturday night in the rain. I think I’ll bake up two loaves of bread ๐Ÿž and more Butternut squash ๐Ÿ† tonight to bring down to start off my vacation. Friday night I’ll finish up packing and do the laundromat thing.

Tonight will be mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฅ, with a low of 52 degrees at 1am. 12 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around September 18th. Maximum dew point of 49 at 2am. South wind 8 to 10 mph. In 2022, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 36 degrees. The record low of 18 occurred back in 1972.

Rainy weekend ahead, especially on Saturday. โ˜” Saturday, rain. High near 60. Northwest wind 5 to 11 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible. Sunday, a chance of rain before 11am, then a chance of showers after 11am. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 51. Breezy. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Typical average high for the weekend is 60 degrees.

Looking at the driving ๐Ÿš˜ weather forecast it looks like the morning weather will start out wet on my drive to Pennsylvania โ˜” but will stop as I head south or at least moderate. Sunday is looking decent for riding the Chesapeake and Ohio trail in Cumberland then setting up camp before dark. Might not even need a tarp on Sunday.

Looking ahead, there are 5 weeks until Thanksgiving ๐Ÿฆƒ when the sun will be setting at 4:28 pm with dusk at 4:57 pm (Standard Time). On that day in 2022, we had partly cloudy and temperatures between 49 and 24 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 46 degrees. We hit a record high of 72 back in 1931. As I was noting last night, I’m already thinking about a November trip around Election Day or Veteran’s Day out to Madison County, ๐Ÿฎ but after that I’ll probably stick closer to home through the end of hunting season, maybe doing some day trips or bike rides along rail trails. ๐Ÿš‚

Maybe Next Week

I haven’t given up hope on getting down to West Virginia this autumn. While I think it’s possible the weeks of best color have come and gone, especially in the high country, I’m still thinking a lot about the possibilities, researching trails and things to do in Tucker County part of West Virginia. It’s really possible but maybe unlikely that I could leave as soon as Friday, if not Saturday next week. Depends a lot on the weather. It’s too hard to have any accuracy of forecasting beyond seven days, besides the general strokes of the 8-14 day outlook. Some places like AccuWeather try to give you forecasts beyond a week out, but you’d be just as good to look at seasonal averages and the broad-strokes of the 8-14 day outlook then any local forecast that far out.

I still want to get down there and set up camp for the balance week, and have decided I should make sure to stock up at Walmart and refill my propane tank at Tractor Supply in Keyser, WV as services are pretty limited in Thomas – Davis part of West Virginia unless I want to drive 40 miles north to Oakland, MD or back to Keyser. Not planning to see as much of West Virginia or Virginia as I try to ram into trips some years. Much rather have a relaxed trip once I get down the Mountain State, ride my bike around the Canaan Backcountry, take shorter day trips, no farther then Dolly Sods or Seneca Rocks but mostly trips into town to get groceries at that little Stop and Shop Express in town, maybe check out the Mountain State Craft Brewery in Thomas, WV and the Blackwater Canyon Rail Trail.

I am okay with waiting another week. This week would have been so cloudy, damp, and at times rainy down in West Virginia. I’ll take cold and even a dusting or an inch of snow to wake up to but I want lots of sun come the day time, so I can enjoy time outdoors and the solar keeps charged on my truck. Maybe it won’t happen next week, some of the really-long range “junk” forecasts for West Virginia are mixed, but then if that’s the case I’ll reconsider and maybe think about taking a 3 or 4 day trip out to Madison County instead. It’s quite possible that WV gets entirely dropped from my plans, replaced with several shorter trips to various places in New York State or maybe the Green Mountain National Forest. Or I could do the Finger Lakes, Western NY and Allegheny National Forest. But I really want to still do West Virginia if at all possible.

It’s raining out again โ˜”

It’s been such a wet and cloudy year this year, especially on the weekends. Bad luck I guess and it’s only expected to get wetter come the weekend into next week. I’m going to see if I can untake off next week and cancel my October vacation at least for now.

Good morning! What day is it? Hump Day, of course. Rain showers and 48 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜” There is a south-southeast breeze at 5 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The skies will clear around 1 pm.

Out for my morning walk ๐Ÿšถ it’s kind of cold and damp ๐ŸŒง๏ธ though it’s not raining like it was earlier. Yesterday I skipped both my morning and evening walks, I wasn’t feeling it but rode back and forth to work. ๐Ÿšฒ Going to be another dark and shadowy day, I’m glad I have those bright new lights on bicycle I’ll certainly use them. I love how I can charge them right on the bike using a USB charger. ๐Ÿ”‹

Breakfast today was oatmeal – banana pancakes with shredded carrots ๐Ÿฅ• added to the mix. I like the additional fiber, almost adds a crispiness to the pancakes ๐Ÿฅž much like oil did back before I got into healthy eating. I made whole wheat garlic bread ๐Ÿž in the oven topped with everything bagel seasoning which is quite good especially dipped in balsamic vinegar. Pea soup with carrots and onions and lots of spices are cooking down in the kitchen ๐Ÿง‘‍๐Ÿณ, I need to run to Stewart’s and get milk ๐Ÿฎ and have a second cup of coffee โ˜• before laddling out soup and bread for lunch, showering and riding my bike ๐Ÿšฒ to work. Then climb the 18 flights of stairs and it’s off to work. I have a stack of cap grants to review. ๐Ÿ“„

Today will start out with showers then mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 64 degrees at 2pm. Typical for today. Maximum dew point of 47 at 5pm. South wind 5 to 9 mph becoming west in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 20%. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning with sunny skies in the afternoon. The high last year was 65 degrees. The record high of 86 was set in 1949. There was a dusting of snow in 1987.โ„

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:43 pm with sun having an altitude of 40.4° from the due south horizon (-30.4° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 7 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 5:44 pm with the sun in the west-southwest (255°). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west (261°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 6:22 pm after setting for 2 minutes and 56 seconds with dusk around 6:48 pm, which is one minute and 41 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 7:23 pm. At sunset, look for partly cloudy skies ๐ŸŒƒ and temperatures around 59 degrees. The dew point will be 47 degrees. There will be a west-northwest breeze at 6 mph. Tomorrow will have 11 hours and 16 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 2 minutes and 48 seconds over today.

I got the address verification approved which is the last step to collecting ad revenue on the blog ๐Ÿ“บ. It looks like if I maintain my current level of traffic and revenue I’ll get my first payment of around $140 come around Thanksgiving. That will help me defray a lot of the operating costs ๐Ÿ’ต and inspire me to come up with useful content and update maps. Plus my new data management system makes it much easier to update old maps. ๐Ÿ—บ

Tonight will be partly cloudy ๐ŸŒค, with a low of 43 degrees at 6am. One degree above normal, which is similar to a typical night around October 10th. Light and variable wind. In 2022, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 41 degrees. The record low of 22 occurred back in 1964.

While I found enough socks for today, ๐Ÿงฆ today I either need to go to Walmart and get more socks for the rest of the week or the laundromat. Probably get socks as I am low on socks regardless, and maybe boxers too as most of the pairs I have are getting pretty worn, fit poorly as I’ve loss so much weight, and then there is a lot of kitchen staples I need that I was putting off debating if I would take off next week or not for vacation. ๐Ÿ›’ But with the forecast for Thomas WV next week I think today I will put the kibosh on next week’s vacation. ๐Ÿ˜ž Maybe next week.

Another rainy weekend on tap. ๐ŸŒง๏ธ Saturday, rain likely, mainly after 2pm. Cloudy, with a high near 54. Chance of precipitation is 60%. Sunday, a chance of rain before 2pm, then a chance of showers after 2pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 54. Chance of precipitation is 40%. Typical average high for the weekend is 62 degrees.

I keep refreshing the weather page for Thomas, West Virginia ๐Ÿ—ป in hopes that the forecast for all of next week would move away from rain and 45 degrees for a high most of next week. ๐ŸŒง๏ธ But with no luck. If anything as the days grow nearer things get worse. I need to bite the bullet and see if I can work next week. ๐Ÿ”ซ It’s annoying that I’ll probably miss peak autumn but I really don’t want to camp most of the week in the rain. I plan to decide some point today, to give my employer enough time to know I’ll be in the office next week. Maybe I’ll take a future week off to go to West Viriginia or do it in a series of shorter vacation.

Looking ahead but maybe not forward, there are 3 weeks until Average High is 55 ๐Ÿ‚ when the sun will be setting at 5:50 pm with dusk at 6:18 pm. On that day in 2022, we had partly sunny, warm, mist and temperatures between 69 and 54 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 55 degrees. We hit a record high of 78 back in 1950.
