January 7, 2023 Evening
Good evening! Mostly clear and 34 degrees in Delmar, NY. There is a northwest breeze at 13 mph. π. It got cold out once again with the wind though needless to say it’s more like early March than January.
Moms 75th birthday party was fun π we had it at a Mexican restaurant in Saratoga. I find it hard to believe my mom is 75 and I’m going on forty in a few weeks, though my focus is entirely on Mission Fifty. I don’t think she appreciated when I pointed out at this point I was more focused on my fiftieth birthday than 40. But time goes by so quickly as an adult π¨π»βπΌ. Been five years already since I’ve been too old to be a Young Democrat. Where does time go? It’s always nice to spend time with mom. π€Ά Never know if I’ll be able to join her for her 80th. Time is precious as it compounds.
But the more I think about it, the more Mission Fifty becomes what I think π€ about. Older people keep telling me I’m rushing my life and wasting time β³ but I’m really excited to think about where I could be in ten years if I maintain and build on my progress. While I’ve long known about the power of maintenance of effort, dividends and compounding – the brushing up on financial literacy textbooks and video – really reminds me how important it is in all parts of life from health to work skills to knowledge. Don’t overextend yourself and don’t sweat a down day but know things add up over a decade. I keep telling myself that this is the decade that will define so much of my remaining years and I should work every day to build ποΈ towards Mission Fifty in all parts of my life.
Tonight will be partly cloudy π , with a low of 23 degrees at 4am. Six degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around March 5th. Northwest wind 8 to 13 mph. In 2022, we had partly cloudy skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 8 degrees. The record low of -18 occurred back in 1878.
Begrudgingly the heats back on and my thermostat is turned up to 50. Had to do it with freezing weather expected β¨ and the inside temperature dropping into the forties. The main reason for heat inside in my view is to keep the pipes from freezing. I kind of admire those who live without running water in their households as they don’t have to waste so much energy on heat especially when they’re not home. I really hate modern life, I look forward to the day I can live a simpler life.
Tonight will have a Full π Moon with 98% illuminated. At 7 PM, the moon was in the east-northeast (71Β°) at an altitude of 17Β° from the horizon, some 252,270 miles away from where you are looking up from the earth. π At the state speed limit of 55 mph, you’ll make it there by July 18th. Buckle up for safety! πΊ The Wolf πΊ Moon is on Monday, January 23. The darkest hour is at 12:02 am, followed by dawn at 6:54 am, and sun starting to rise at 7:26 am in the east-southeast (120Β°) and last for 3 minutes and 22 seconds. Sunrise is 8 seconds earlier than yesterday. π The golden hour ends at 8:11 am with sun in the southeast (128Β°). Tonight will have 14 hours and 43 minutes of darkness, a decrease of one minute and 11 seconds over last night.
Tomorrow will be sunny π, with a high of 38 degrees at 2pm. Five degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around February 21st. Northwest wind around 6 mph becoming calm in the morning. A year ago, we had light snow in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. The high last year was 24 degrees. The record high of 60 was set in 2008. 8.3 inches of snow fell back in 1923.β
In four weeks on February 4 the sun will be setting in the west-southwest (249Β°) at 5:13 pm,π which is 34 minutes and 9 seconds later then tonight. In 2021 on that day, we had partly sunny and temperatures between 37 and 15 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 34 and 15 degrees. The record high of 61 degrees was set back in 1991.
