Night one on my way out to the Finger Lakes, at the Cherry Ridge Camping Area in Brookfield. Just a place to stay overnight not too far from US 20, two hours west of Albany. Big thunderstorm rolled through after setting up dinner and camp.⚑ Hanging out in the truck cap, hoping the rain won’t last, so I can restart the fire. πŸ’¦Montezuma then the Finger Lakes tomorrow.🐦

What happens to fish when streams flood?

Natural Pursuit Outdoors Blog : What happens to fish when streams flood?

β€œFish survive floods and even droughts by seeking refuge areas where conditions are suitable to survival,” Pennsylvania Fish & Boat Commission Fisheries Management Chief Kris Kuhn said. β€œDuring high water, fish move towards the banks to find seams, pockets and eddies that provide calmer water and lower velocities. They hold behind rock substrate and submerged woody debris to find current breaks.”

β€œFish can also rest right on the stream bed as friction created by water flowing fastest near the surface slows down near the stream bottom. Sometimes fish move into smaller tributaries during a flood and drop back when flows recede.”

The last time the high was below 80 degrees in Albany, was June 27th, which is 30 days ago. Longest stretch of weather with day time highs above 80 degrees ever in Albany, and all of next week looks like it will be at least 80 degrees.

We did have some below normal weather in July, a few nights when the humidity was low and there was a lot of cooling at night.
