Spring

The thunderstorm

The thunder rumbled while I was in the swimming hole,
crack boom bang,
I headed back to camp when I saw the lightning,
Under the tarp,
Rumble, rumble.

The storm never came that close,
But it started to rain,
Not that hard.

So I sat and watched.
The rain picked up,
The 5 gallon bucket next to the tarp
Filled up.

And then it stopped,
much like it started.
I went for another swim.

Allegheny Reservior

April is Brown.

Brown in many ways is the color of April. The dirt and ground is brown or gray, with the snow mostly gone but still too cold for things to green up in the more upland areas. Mud and muck get on the boots, the air often has a pungent taste to it in farm country. The warmth of May sometimes breaks through in April, but color is limited, for this is not a month known for it’s diverse color.

Delmar Impervious Soils

With more rain expected this weekend, I thought it would be interesting to make a quick map of the Impervious souls (blacktop and concrete), along with stormwater outfalls in Delmar.

I really enjoy sleeping with the windows open πŸ”³

The fresh air is nice as is hearing the birds in the morning. While I think the heating season is done I’ll probably have to close the windows tomorrow with cooler rainy weather coming in but I expect it won’t be long before I can keep the windows open all of the time.
