September 30, 2017 Evening

Good evening! Chilly and somewhat damp evening here in Delmar. Mostly cloudy and 53 degrees in Delmar. There is a north breeze at 10 mph. The dew point is 44 degrees. The skies will clear around 10 pm. Today was a pretty cool day, I ended up closing the windows, and Ihave my vest on right now. I refuse to turn on the heat on before November though — I am not made of money. That said, it was good that we get got the rain earlier in the day.

Tonight will have patchy fog after 2am. Otherwise, mostly cloudy, then gradually becoming mostly clear, with a low of 39 degrees at 5am. Six degrees below normal.  Frost advisory for the higher elevations. I hope you bought sweet corn before it’s gone, and have brought your plants on in. North wind 5 to 10 mph becoming light in the evening. In 2016, we had light rain in the evening, remaining overcast into the early morning. It got down to 50 degrees. The record low of 28 occurred back in 1993.

Tonight will have a Waxing Gibbous Moon with 86% illuminated. The moon will set tonight at 3:14 am. The Hunter Moon is on Thursday night with partly cloudy skies. The sun will rise at 6:52 am with the first light at 6:24 am, which is one minute and 7 seconds later than yesterday. Tonight will have 12 hours and 16 minutes of darkness, an increase of 2 minutes and 52 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will have patchy fog before 8am. Otherwise, sunny, with a high of 66 degrees at 3pm. Typical weather. Calm wind becoming northwest around 5 mph in the afternoon. A year ago, we had cloudy skies. The high last year was 61 degrees. The record high of 90 was set in 1927. There was a dusting of snow in 1946.

In four weeks on October 28 the sun will be setting at 5:52 pm, which is 44 minutes and 44 seconds earlier then tonight. In 2016 on that day, we had rain, drizzle, mist, mostly cloudy skies and temperatures between 47 and 34 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 55 and 36 degrees. The record high of 78 degrees was set back in 1971.’

Today was a relatively quiet day. I ended up spending a lot more time working on the code to print out the sunset time then I expected. It turned out it was harder then I expected to create an alogorithm to pick the closest day when every time the sunset decreases by 15 minutes. I eventually figured it out.

Went down to the library briefly to upload the code, then visited my mom in the hospital. Just a very quiet and gray afternoon for sure. Tomorrow is expected to be much sunnier, which will be nice. Cool but sunny. Maybe I will go hiking at Thacher Park for a while in the afternoon, it’s been a long time since I’ve been up there. I should check out that fancy new nature center they have up there, not that I really care.

Stopped at the store and bought some fish, onion rings, and potato fries. Cooked up with some brocoli. It’s nice that it’s cool enough that I can once again use the oven, but I’m sure that will add to the electricity bill. That said, winter is rapidly approaching, and I doubt I will be spending so much on gas and supplies for camping once November rolls around the corner. Tomorrow is October, but with my week long trip, and work comittments, I expect the month to be over before you know it. Heck, in twelve short weeks — essentially three months — it will be almost Christmas Eve (which is on a Sunday this year). Time goes by so quickly, and it will be winter before you know it.

But first I am going to go for my evening walk, especially while it’s still decent enough to do that. And enjoy my autumn while I still can because next year is expected to be a much more busier at work.

Looking ahead, the Average High is 60 is in 2 weeks, Daylight Savings Time Ends is in 5 weeks, the Cold Moon is in 9 weeks and New Years Eve is in 13 weeks.
