Usually when I go up a mountain, into the woods, or some other place that is really interesting, I like to take a couple of photos of my experiences.

Addison County, VT. In Addison County, Vermont are vast dairy lands along the Lake Champlain overlooking the Adirondack Mountains. The roads are mostly dirt and the dairy farms are many, and this area has some spectacular views of Adirondacks and Green Mountains. Alander Mountain. Alander Mountain is in the Mount Everest Reservation (what Massachusetts calls a State Forest), and has amazing views both of the western Berkshires and the Taconics. It is truly an amazing and breathtaking mountain to hike up. Albany. Exploring the city of Albany through a series of photos through all seasons and times. |

Albany Pine Bush. The Albany Pine Bush is a unique ecosystem with several rare plants and animals. Located only 5 miles from downtown, it provides a "wilderness" escape, surrounded by roads and urban sprawl. Allegany State Park. Allegany State Park is located north of the National Forest, and is in New York State. It is a massive state park, with equally massive "cabin cities" and recreational facilities. Allegheny National Forest. Located in North Western Pennsylvania, the massive Allegany National Forest is a mixture of truck trails with roadside camping, vast expanses of land, campgrounds, oil wells, hunting grounds, and the Allegany Reservoir. |

Blackhead Mountain Range. Blackhead Mountain Range, famous for the 3-peak rooster comb that is emblematic of the Catskills. It consists of Thomas Cole, Black Dome (the only one I haven't been up yet), and Black Head Mountain. Blenhiem, NY. Pictures around Blenhiem, NY in Schoharie County. Blue Mountain Lake. Blue Mountain is a very popular day hike mountain in the Central Adirondacks, with a fire tower that overlooks most of the central Adirondacks, including Blue Mountain Lake. |

Bog River Flow / Lows Lake. The Bog River Flow, also known as Lows Lake is a spectacular wilderness/primitive area located in South-East Saint Lawerence County. It consists of two dams, Lows Upper and Lows Lower, that create to massive man-made lakes. It is home to over 100 paddle in campsites along with some amazing views and wildlife. Bradock Bay WMA. Bradock Bay WMA is located in Greece, NY on Lake Ontario. Pictures from a fall day hike I took up there two years ago. Brasher State Forest. At the Brasher State Forest, near Malone there is the Walter Pratt/C.C. Dam Association 21-site primitive campground and lake where you can stay for free, and explore 20,000 acres of state land and surrounding Saint Lawrence County. |

Brookfield State Forests. A series of state forests, including Charles Baker, Brookfield Railroad, Beaver Creek, and others with the Brookfield Horse Trail System, the Cherry Ridge Camping Area, and Beaver Creek for Kayaking. Buck Mountain. Buck Mountain overlooks Lake George and can be accessed from either Pilot Knob or the Hogs Town Tent Camping Area. Bulldozing the Albany Pine Bush. Chateaugay. Pictures of the wind farm and other landscapes around Chateaugay NY in northern Clinton County. Chazy Lake. Chazy Lake is located about 5 miles west of Dannemora, and sits below Lyons Mountain, and there is a free state primitive camp-site on it. It is not near the town of Chazy. Chittenango Falls. Located between Chittenango, NY and Cazenovia, NY, these 167 foot falls are interesting to view and have a neat little trail around their base. |

Dresden. Dresden is a town located just inside the most south-eastern portion of the Adirondack Park, overlooking the South Bay of Lake Champlain. Early Spring. A series of photographs from the Pine Bush and the rural country north of the Catskills. East Branch of Sacandaga River. For several miles east of NY 30 in Wells, NY 8 runs along the Sacandaga River. This is a popular place for temporary hunting camps in the fall, and has dozens of campsites located off the roadways, along with trails to ponds and other locations. Driving along NY 8, if you don't stop and look for dirt roads spurring off the road, you'd never know anything was up here. |

Equinox Mountain. Equinox Mountain is located near Manchester, and is a popular hike with views of Manchester, Arlington, and surrounding lands. Erie Canal. Finger Lakes National Forest. Pictures from the Finger Lakes National Forest, which is a 16,000 acres of leased public pasture and recreational lands. Fire. Fish Creek Ponds is a series of largely connected ponds in Northern Adirondacks, North of Tupper Lake. On Floodwood Road, there are series of 15 free drive in campsites one can camp at, with about half of them located on various lakes. |

Five Rivers. The nature preserve run by NYSDEC just outside of Delmar that provides a nice walk after a short bike ride or drive out there. Five Years at War. Pictures from the anti-war protest at the State Capitol in 2007. Fort Niagara State Park. Fort Niagara State Park is located at the tip of Niagara River where it flows into Lake Ontario. A former military base, it has great views of Lake Ontario and the Niagara River. |

Garnet Lake. Garnet Lake is located a little ways from Crane Mountain, and is nested between Mount Blue and Ross Mountain. There are three tent sites on lake, and half-dozen paddle in sites located along the other shore of the lake. Giant Ledge. Giant Ledge is a relatively flat mountain that sits below and between Panther Mountain and Slide Monutain. If your looking for great views with an easy hikes in the High Peaks region of the Catskills, this is one to consider hiking. Giant Mountain (High Peaks Adirondacks). Giant Mountain (High Peaks Adirondacks) is the imposing mountain in the Keene Valley of NY. The 13th tallest peak in NY State, it has some good views of the High Peaks and Schroon Lake area. |

Good Luck Lake. Good Luck Mountain, Good Luck Lake, and West Branch of Sacanadaga River are popular for hiking, paddling, and camping ... Goodnow Mountain. Goodnow Mountain is located in Newcomb, NY on the SUNY ESF Newcomb campus. The firetower's views has been called the best in Adirondacks, something one would be hard to disagree with. Grafton Lakes. Grafton Lakes State Park is a state park located in rural Rensselaer County situated on a series of man made ponds, forests, and parklands. |

Hadley Mountain. Hadley Mountain is a series of photos taken on the mountain fire tow above Great Sacandaga lake in the Southern Adirondacks. Hannacroix Preserve. Just south of Coeymans is the Hannicroix Preserve, about a 1000 acres of land along the Hudson River and the Hannacroix Creek, including a beautiful set of waterfalls. Harvey Mountain State Forest. Hawk's Nest. Hawk's Nest is a section of NY 97 near Port Jervis on the Delaware River, where the road soars high above the Delaware River, on one of the most beautiful sections of road in North America and New York. The gorge competes with Niagara River gorge for it's amazing beauty. Hogback Mountain. Hogback Mountain is off the Molly Stark Highway. These are a beautiful view on a snowy morning on my trip to New Hampshire. Hope Falls and Pumpkin Hollow. Horseshoe Lake. Horseshoe Lake is located on South Eastern Saint Lawrence County, on a dead end state highway, NY 421, a spur from NY 30 South of Tupper Lake. It offers 6 campsites scattered along the lake, with 6 others on nearby roads. It is also near the Bog River Flow Canoe/Kayak Area. Hunter Mountain. Hunter Mountain is the second highest peak in the Catskills at 4040 feet. It features a fire tower on it's peak, along with several trails to reach it. Huntersfield Mountain Range. Huntersfield Mountain Range is located just north of the Catskill Park and sits on the border of Schoharie and Greene Counties. Rarely visited by hikers, it is crossed by the Long Path and a state truck trail, and has a lean-to on top. The state owns much of the ridge, including Huntersfield Mountain, Ashland Pinnacle, South Mountain, Richmond Mountain, and Mount Pisgah. |

Huyck Preserve. Huyck Preserve is located in hamlet of Rensselearville and consists of several ponds and the Rensselearville Waterfalls. Ice Storm 2008. A series of photographs from the Ice Storm of December 2008 that left several inches of ice on the ground and around. Independence River. Independence River Wild Forest and Otter Creek State Forest dot the Western Adirondack Plateau, which in many ways is similar landscape-wise to the higher elevations of the Tug Hill Plateau -- flat, sandy lands, with small hills and interesting terrain. This area is home to Adirondacks' largest state horse camp -- Otter Creek, the sand plains of Confusion Flats, several backcountry roads like Smith and Basket Factory Road with roadside camping, and many lakes like Francis Lake and Stillwater Reservior. |

Indian Head. Indian Head Mountain is located along the Katerskill Clove, with views of Overlook and many of the High Peaks of the Catskills. Irish and Cole Hill. Irish and Cole Hills are state forest that includes cliffs outside of Berne that overlook the Switzkill Valley. Ithaca. Ithaca is the college town in Central New York, known for it's Gorges and location on the Finger Lakes. |

Jessup River Wild Forest and Perkins Clearing. The Jessup River Wild Forest and lands of International Paper (Perkins Clearing) north of Speculator. There are 12 primitive campsites on Mason Lake, right south of the intersection of NY 30 and Jessup Lake Road, along with a scattering of designated sites in International Paper Easement. Labrador Hollow. Labrador Hollow is a state unique area located on the border of Fabius and Truxton, NY. It is home to many unique and endangered species, and is surrounded by hills that shade out sunlight during long parts of the day. Lake Champlain Bridge. Pictures of the old Lake Champlain Bridge, the demolition of the bridge, and the construction of the replacement bridge. Lake Moraine. Lake Moraine is located north of Hamilton, NY, and was built to originally fill the Chenango Canal, and is still used to this day to regulate water levels in the Erie Canal. |

Lester Flow and Cheney Pond. Part of the Boreas River is damed up in Vanderwhacker Wild Forest, known as the Lester Flow, and can be accessed via paddling across Cheney Pond, which is about a mile from Boreas Road. Lewis County. The road signs for Lewis County describe this rural county simply: "Adirondacks. Black River Valley. Tug Hill Plateau." Lewiston. Little Stony Point. Little Stony Point is State Park on the other side of the Hudson River from Storm King Mountain with some amazing views of the mountain and Cold Spring. Had ConEdison got it's way, and built the Pump Storage Plant, this beautiful vista would never look the same. Lois Marie Gibbs. Lois Marie Gibbs is an environmental activist who came to SUNY Albany in Rensselear to talk about the dangers of PVC and other toxins, and advocate that SUNY choose less toxic plastic plastics for building materials and other products. Long Pond State Forest. Long Pond State Forest is located on the border of Chenango and Broome County, and is one of the largest ponds on public land with eight designed roadside campsites along one edge of the pond. |

Love Canal. The infamous Love Canal site is creepy as I walk through it one summer afternoon and grab a few pictures of this now abandoned neighborhood. Lyon Mountain. Mallet Pond State Forest. Mallet Pond State Forest is a smaller state forest (2,500 acres) across the valley from the Burnt-Rossman Hills. While smaller, it is still rugged and remote, with rough dirt roads, two ponds, camping sites, and public lands to explore. March on Pentagon. Mongollon Rim. Mongollon Rim surrounds Payson, a rural community in Arizona that is known for it's natural beauty and world famous rodeos. It's hard-core cowboy country, filled with public grazing lands and dense public forests. Moose River Plains. Moose River Plains is a 50,000 acre state recreation area parcel between the West Canadian Creek Wilderness and Blue Ridge Wilderness. It has 150 road-side campsites (some set as far as mile off the road), along a 40 mile rough dirt roads, along with many beautiful lakes and mountains surrounding it. Moreau Lake State Park. Moreau Lake State Park is between South Glen Falls and Corinth, and has some interesting views of the Hudson River. |

Mornings. Mornings are some of the most beautiful time of the day. Mount Arab. Mount Arab is a fire tower overlooking Tupper Lake off of NY 3 in Piercefield. Mount Greylock. Mount Greylock is the highest peak in Massachusetts with several nearby peaks and overlooks for one to explore. |

Mount Tremper. Pictures atop the Mount Tremper firetower in Phoenicia, NY (half hour west of Woodstock, NY) and other areas nearby. Mount Utsayantha. Mount Utsayantha is a Stamford, NY public park located atop a very scenic mountain in Delaware County. There is a firetower, you can drive up to, with both views of Southern Schoharie County, Delaware County, and the Catskills. New Lebanon. Partridge Run WMA. Partridge Run is an almost 15,000 acre parcel of public hunting grounds and state forests that are always interesting to explore, and only located about 20 miles from Albany. Paul Smiths. Paul Smiths is home not only to college, but also Mountain Pond and Slush Pond Recreation (Roadside Camping) Areas, Barnum Pond, and the Adirondack VIC. Pharaoh Lake Wilderness. The Pharaoh Lake Wilderness runs along the Eastern side of Schroon Lake and consists of a series of lakes surrounding Pharaoh Mountain in the Adirondacks. |

Pine Cobble. Pine Cobble and East Mountain are two peaks along the Appalachian Trail in the Northern Berkshires. Piseco Lake. Pictures of and around Piseco Lake, including off of Echo Cliff on Panther Mountain. Piseco Lake is located at the end of NY 10 where it runs into NY 8, just south of Speculator. Piseco-Powley Road. The 20 mile Piseco-Powley Seasonal Road is located in the Ferris Lake Wild Forest and runs between Piseco Lake and Sratford, NY in the South-Central Adirondacks. It's known for it's roadside campsites, remote wilderness routing, East Canada Creek, Potholers, and hikes to various lakes. |

Plateau Mountain. Plateau Mountain is a long flat mountain just south of villages of Hunter and Tannersville, spanning about 2 miles on it's top. It's next to Hunter Mountain and Sugarloaf Mountain. Poets Walk. Poets Walk is located near the Kingston-Rhinecliff Bridge and is a park with with sweeping views of the Hudson River and Catskill Mountains. Point Au Roche. Point Au Roche State Park is located on these beautiful penisulas that stick out into Lake Champlain about 8 miles from Plattsburgh. Pok-O-Moonshine. Politics. I go to lots of political events and sometimes grab a few pictures. Port Allegany. Pictures from and around Port Allegany and Coldersport in Pennsyltucky. An old mill town, it has a beautiful landscape surrounding it. Rainbow Lake-area. Rainbow Lake in Adirondacks is home to the lake of that name, a long lake that is great for paddling, the Jones Pond Camping Area, along with Lake Kushaqua. |

Red Hill Firetower. Visiting the Red Hill Firetower in the south-western Catskills. Rensselearville. Pictures from in and around the hamlet of Rensselearville of rolling farm country, mountains, and hills. Rensselearville State Forest. Rensselearville State Forest is a 2,849 acres of state forest a top Cheese Hill, traversed by a network of truck trails where you can hike, camp, ski, mud, or snowmobile. |

Reverend Billy's Church of Stop Shopping. Reverend Billy's Church of Stop Shopping Choir came to the Sanctuary for Independent Media in December 2009, and put on quite a show. Rip Van Winkle Bridge. Sometimes I like to walk along the Rip Van Winkle Bridge's pedestrian crossing. There are some amazing views from this bridge high over the Hudson River. Rocky Mountain (Inlet). Near Inlet, NY there is a small ledge above Sixth Lake, that is a popular short hike with views of Sixth Lake and surrounding lands. The views aren't as good as Rondaxe/Bald Mountain, but still are an interesting, half hour hike. |

Rogers Environmental Education Center. Rogers Environmental Education Center is a series of parcels outside of Sherburne, NY that have several interesting views for wildlife viewing. Rondaxe Firetower. Rondaxe Firetower is on Bald Mountain, above Third Lake in the Fulton Chain of Lakes and is right off NY 28. It is one of the most popular fire towers around, due to it's fantastic views, short hike, and accessibility to populated areas like Old Forge. Route 358. Views from a top of the hill on Albany County Route 358 and along Baitsholts Road in Rensselearville. |

Severance Hill. Severance Hill overlooks Paradox Lake and Schroon Lake in the Adirondack Mountains. It is a short 1 mile hike right off the Northway, with some interesting views. Stephentown. A series of photos in Stephentown, Cherry Valley State Park, and the Capital Region Wildlife Area. Stissing Mountain. Stissing Mountain is located outside of Pine Plains in Dutchess County, and from the very tall fire-tower up top a 1,000 ft hill that overlooks a rolling agricultural landscape, with views into New York, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Vermont, and New Jersey. Stoney Pond. Stoney Pond State Forest is located in the highlands between Morrisonville and Cazenovia, and includes a camping area that requires a free permit in the summer. |

Storm King Mountain. A spring hike on Storm King Mountain, a drive up Bear Mountain, and some amazing pictures from Little Stony Point in the Hudson Highlands State Park, near Cold Spring. Streeter Lake. Streeter Lake is in the Aldrich Wild Forest south of the hamlet of Oswegatchie off of Route 3. It is home to 17 roadside campsites, and the Mud River and Streeter Lake for kayaking or fishing. Sugar Hill. Sugar Hill State Forest is a state-owned primitive campground for horse owners and others looking for a free place to spend the night. It has miles of equestrian trails to explore. |

Tahawus. Tahawus is home to NL Industries' former titanium dioxide mine (closed in 1989), and a speculator piece of land, just South of High Peaks, jointly owned by Open Space Institute and NY State. The Upper Works-area provides access to ruins of Tahawus Club and High Peaks Wilderness. Taylor Valley State Forest. Taylor Valley is another deep valley, roughly 10 miles south of Labrador Hollow. Home to a former CC Camp, they allow camping here, and the Finger Lakes Trail runs through the valley. Thacher Park. Pictures from Thatcher Park and the OSI parcels along the Heldeberg Escarpment. |

Thirteenth Lake. Thirteenth Lake is a popular destination in the Siamese Ponds Wilderness, that can be driven too and accessed without too much hiking. Around the lake, there are paddle-in or hike-in campsites every 1/4 mile pursuant to the APSLMP. Thompsons Lake. Thompsons Lake is smaller natural lake in Knox, near Thacher Park that has a state campground on it, a nature center, and some decent fishing and kayaking opportunities. Three Rivers WMA. Three Rivers WMA is located in Baldwinsville, consisting of several swamps, abandoned roads, fields, meadows, and offering some of the best hunting and wild areas North of Syracuse. |

Ticonderoga. Pictures from around historic Ticonderoga Area in the Adirondacks and Champlain Valley. Tioga State Forest. Tioga State Forest in Pennsylvania is a 163,000 acre forest in very rural North-Central, south-west of Corning, NY and is near Wellsboro, PA. It features the Pine Creek Gorge, also known as Grand Canyon of the East, the Leonard Harris State Park, and the Colton Point State Park. Tongue Mountains. Tongue Mountain Range is a series of mountains that jet out into Lake George north of Bolton, NY. A nice area for day hikes, these are some photos I took during a day that became progressively nicer. |

Trash. Everything we buy ultimately becomes trash in a few days, weeks, months, or years. Tribes Hill. On Tribes Hill, NY 5 bypasses the hamlet by going straight over the hill. There are some pretty views of the Mohawk Valley from the rest area up there. Trucker Protest. Big rigs and big toys come to Albany to protest high diesel costs and demand state government DO SOMETHING! |

Tug Hill State Forest. The Tug Hill State Forest is located on the border of Jefferson and Lewis County on the Tug Plateau, at an elevation high enough where farming ceases, and the land either public or private timberlands. Tupper Lake. Tupper Lake is in the North-Central Adirondacks. Twin Mountain. Twin Mountain is a mountain in the range that contains Sugar Loaf, Plateau, and most famously Indian Head in the Catskills. |

Union Falls. Union Falls is a beautiful mid-size man-made lake with the Saranac River is damned up by a relatively high dam. There is roadside camping, and kayaking on state land here. Urban Decay. Watson's Triangle. Watson's Triangle is the North-Western most portion of the Adironacks, somewhat north of Lowville but south of Aldrich Wild Forest. A very remote area, popular with hunters, and those wanting to drive on narrow truck trails through this pristine wilderness. Wellsboro PA. Whitney Point. Whitney Point is location of a large Army Corps of Engineers flood control dam on the Otselic River in Central NY. Woodhull Lake. Half of Woodhull Lake is located in the Black River Wild Forest, and can be accessed from McKeever which is about 10 miles south of Old Forge. There are 6 roadside campsites on Woodhull Lake Road (one-lane truck trail), a lean-to on Woodhull Lake, and Remsen Falls, a small set of rapids on the Middle branch of Moose River. Working Land. Lands being used and worked for one purpose or another. |
