Usually when I go up a mountain, into the woods, or some place interesting, I like to take a couple of photos of what I am experiencing.

Alander Mountain.
Alander Mountain is in the Mount Everest Reservation (what Massachusetts calls a State Forest), and has amazing views both of the western Berkshires and the Taconics. It is truly an amazing and breathtaking mountain to hike up.

Balsam Lake Wild Forest.
Pictures from the Balsam Lake Wild Forest, home of the oldest remaining Fire Tower in the Catskills, and Alder Pond, a beautiful 22-acre lake with primative camping around it. It is located about 10 miles south of Margretville.

Bennett Hill.

Berne.
Berne is a rural town in Western Albany County. Pictures from the highways and byways in this beautiful farming town.

Black Mountain.
Black Mountain is located between Lake George and Lake Champlain in Dresden, NY.

Blackhead Mountain Range.
Blackhead Mountain Range, famous for the 3-peak rooster comb that is emblematic of the Catskills. It consists of Thomas Cole, Black Dome (the only one I haven't been up yet), and Black Head Mountain.

Blue Mountain Lake.
Blue Mountain is a very popular day hike mountain in the Central Adirondacks, with a fire tower that overlooks most of the central Adirondacks, including Blue Mountain Lake.

Brasher State Forest.
At the Brasher State Forest, near Malone there is the Walter Pratt/C.C. Dam Association 21-site primitive campground and lake where you can stay for free, and explore 20,000 acres of state land and surrounding Saint Lawrence County.

Charles Baker State Forest.
Charles Baker State Forest is home to the Brookfield State Horse Camp and the Brookfield Auto Trail. Some pictures along the way.

Chazy Lake.
Chazy Lake is located about 5 miles west of Dannemora, and sits below Lyons Mountain, and there is a free state primitive camp-site on it. It is not near the town of Chazy.

Deer River State Forest is located in south-western Franklin County, north of the Adirondack Park. It has an extensive network of pickup truck trails, and several camp sites including the beautiful Iron Bridge Campsite I stayed at.

Four Corners.

Giant Ledge.
Giant Ledge is a relatively flat mountain that sits below and between Panther Mountain and Slide Monutain. If your looking for great views with an easy hikes in the High Peaks region of the Catskills, this is one to consider hiking.

Giant Mountain (High Peaks Adirondacks).
Giant Mountain (High Peaks Adirondacks) is the imposing mountain in the Keene Valley of NY. The 13th tallest peak in NY State, it has some good views of the High Peaks and Schroon Lake area.

Good Luck Mountain.
Good Luck Mountain is famous for it's large granite cliffs that tower above the landscape, that are over 500 feet high. Below Good Luck Mountain is Good Luck Lake, a prestine Adirondack Lake with primative campsites around it.

Goodnow Mountain.
Goodnow Mountain is located in Newcomb, NY on the SUNY ESF Newcomb campus. The firetower's views has been called the best in Adirondacks, something one would be hard to disagree with.

Grafton Lakes.
Grafton Lakes State Park is a state park located in rural Rensselaer County situated on a series of man made ponds, forests, and parklands.

Grand Canyon.
The famous National Park with the big ditch cut by the Colorado River has been photographed to death. It's much larger in person.

Great Western Turnpike.
Along the Great Western Turnpike / Route 20 in Central New York.

Green Lakes State Park.
A beautiful and unique state park featuring mineral rich waters, meromictic ecosystems, and old growth forest outside of Syracuse, NY.

Hadley Mountain.
Hadley Mountain is a series of photos taken on the mountain fire tow above Great Sacandaga lake in the Southern Adirondacks.

Hannacroix Preserve.
Just south of Coeymans is the Hannicroix Preserve, about a 1000 acres of land along the Hudson River and the Hannacroix Creek, including a beautiful set of waterfalls.

Harmon Hill.
Harmon Hill is on the Long Trail / Applachian Trail and overlooks Bennington, Vermont and valley north to Adirondacks and Lake Champlain.

Hawk's Nest.
Hawk's Nest is a section of NY 97 near Port Jervis on the Delaware River, where the road soars high above the Delaware River, on one of the most beautiful sections of road in North America and New York. The gorge competes with Niagara River gorge for it's amazing beauty.

Hogback Mountain.
Hogback Mountain is off the Molly Stark Highway. These are a beautiful view on a snowy morning on my trip to New Hampshire.

Hunter Mountain.
Hunter Mountain is the second highest peak in the Catskills at 4040 feet. It features a fire tower on it's peak, along with several trails to reach it.

Huntersfield Mountain.
Huntersfield Mountain is a mountain located just north of the Catskill Park and sits on the border of Schoharie and Greene Counties. Rarely visited, it is crossed by the Long Path and a state truck trail, and has a lean-to on top.

Huyck Preserve.
Huyck Preserve is located in hamlet of Rensselearville and consists of several ponds and the Rensselearville Waterfalls.

Indian Head.
Indian Head Mountain is located along the Katerskill Clove, with views of Overlook and many of the High Peaks of the Catskills.

Irish & Cole Hill.
Irish and Cole Hills are state forest that includes cliffs outside of Berne that overlook the Switzkill Valley.

Ithaca.
Ithaca is the college town in Central New York, known for it's Gorges and location on the Finger Lakes.

James Howard Kunstler.
James Howard Kunstler, author of books on urban planning and energy policy, came to speak to the Saint Rose Capital Region Energy Forum about peak energy and financial reform.

Joesph Davis State Park.
Photos from a walk in the abandoned farmland that makes this state park up outside of Youngstown, NY.

Kaaterskill Clove.
Hiking along the Escarpment trail along the Kaaterskill Clove.

Kaaterskill Falls.
The Kaaterskill Falls are located off NY 23A near Tannersville, and at 260 feet are some of the highest falls in Upstate New York.

Kane Mountain Fire Tower overlooks Canada Lake, Mohawk Valley, and the mountains in the Southern-Central Adirondacks.

Labrador Hollow.
Labrador Hollow is a state unique area located on the border of Fabius and Truxton, NY. It is home to many unique and endangered species, and is surrounded by hills that shade out sunlight during long parts of the day.

Lake Ontario.
A series of photos taken alongside beautiful Lake Ontario from the Niagara River to Oswego.

Lawson Lake.
Lawson Lake is a County Park located off of Route 32 a mile before you cross the Alcove Reservoir near the former hamlet of Indian Fields.

Leonard Hill.

Lois Marie Gibbs.
Lois Marie Gibbs is an environmental activist who came to SUNY Albany in Rensselear to talk about the dangers of PVC and other toxins, and advocate that SUNY choose less toxic plastic plastics for building materials and other products.

Love Canal.
The infamous Love Canal site is creepy as I walk through it one summer afternoon and grab a few pictures of this now abandoned neighborhood.

Middleburgh Cliff.
To the east of Middleburgh there is a ridge known as "The Cliff". While privately owned as forest land by farmers below, the Long Path crosses it and provides some interesting views of Middleburgh and surrounding farms.

Mongollon Rim.
Mongollon Rim surrounds Payson, a rural community in Arizona that is known for it's natural beauty and world famous rodeos. It's hard-core cowboy country, filled with public grazing lands and dense public forests.

Moose River Plains.
Moose River Plains is a 50,000 acre state recreation area parcel between the West Canadian Creek Wilderness and Blue Ridge Wilderness. It has 150 road-side campsites (some set as far as mile off the road), along a 40 mile rough dirt roads, along with many beautiful lakes and mountains surrounding it.

Mornings are some of the most beautiful time of the day.

Mount Greylock.
Mount Greylock is the highest peak in Massachusetts with several nearby peaks and overlooks for one to explore.

Mount Tremper.
Pictures atop the Mount Tremper firetower in Phoenicia, NY (half hour west of Woodstock, NY) and other areas nearby.

Mount Utsayantha.
Mount Utsayantha is a Stamford, NY public park located atop a very scenic mountain in Delaware County. There is a firetower, you can drive up to, with both views of Southern Schoharie County, Delaware County, and the Catskills.

New Lebanon.

Niagara Falls.

Panther Mountain.
Panther Mountain is located to the north of Giant Ledge in the Catskills. It has some interesting and different views from Giant Ledge, and is about 750 ft higher in elevation. It also can be accessed from a parking area in Big Indian on NY 28.

Panton Vermont.
Panton, Vermont is a mix of really rural farmland whose center city is Vergennes.

Parents Farm.
The acres that I grew up on until I moved out at age 25 to my apartment in Delmar.

Partridge Run.
Partridge Run is an almost 15,000 acre parcel of state public hunting arounds that is always a fascinating walk and is located only about 20 miles from Albany.

Pharaoh Lake Wilderness.
The Pharaoh Lake Wilderness runs along the Eastern side of Schroon Lake and consists of a series of lakes surrounding Pharaoh Mountain in the Adirondacks.

Pine Bush.
The Albany Pine Bush is a unique ecosystem with several rare plants and animal

Pine Cobble.
Pine Cobble and East Mountain are two peaks along the Appalachian Trail in the Northern Berkshires.

Piseco Lake.
Pictures of and around Piseco Lake, including off of Echo Cliff on Panther Mountain. Piseco Lake is located at the end of NY 10 where it runs into NY 8, just south of Speculator.

Plateau Mountain.
Plateau Mountain is a long flat mountain just south of villages of Hunter and Tannersville, spanning about 2 miles on it's top. It's next to Hunter Mountain and Sugarloaf Mountain.

Rensselearville State Forest.
Rensselearville State Forest is a 2,849 acres of state forest a top Cheese Hill, traversed by a network of truck trails where you can hike, camp, ski, mud, or snowmobile.

Reverend Billy's Church of Stop Shopping.
Reverend Billy's Church of Stop Shopping Choir came to the Sanctuary for Independent Media in December 2009, and put on quite a show.

Rip Van Winkle Bridge.
Sometimes I like to walk along the Rip Van Winkle Bridge's pedestrian crossing. There are some amazing views from this bridge high over the Hudson River.

Rocky Mountain (Inlet).
Near Inlet, NY there is a small ledge above Sixth Lake, that is a popular short hike with views of Sixth Lake and surrounding lands. The views aren't as good as Rondaxe/Bald Mountain, but still are an interesting, half hour hike.

Rondaxe Firetower.
Rondaxe Firetower is on Bald Mountain, above Third Lake in the Fulton Chain of Lakes and is right off NY 28. It is one of the most popular fire towers around, due to it's fantastic views, short hike, and accessibility to populated areas like Old Forge.

Route 358.
Views from a top of the hill on Albany County Route 358 and along Baitsholts Road in Rensselearville.

Route 360.

Sugar Hill.
Sugar Hill State Forest is a state-owned primitive campground for horse owners and others looking for a free place to spend the night. It has miles of equestrian trails to explore.

On Tribes Hill, NY 5 bypasses the hamlet by going straight over the hill. There are some pretty views of the Mohawk Valley from the rest area up there.

Twin Mountain.
Twin Mountain is a mountain in the range that contains Sugar Loaf, Plateau, and most famously Indian Head in the Catskills.
