How Careless I’m With Water.

I was thinking the other day how careless I can be with water

I rent and my landlord pays for the water, 💦 obstinately through my rent payment. The landlord sometimes complains how high the water bill is 💸 and suggests his tenants do more to save water. But water is cheap and plentiful, and I honestly I don’t think that much about it when I wash dishes or take a shower. But I probably should.

Water is not free to produce and it certainly is not free dispose of. Waste-water treatment is particularly energy intensive, and like many towns, there is a mixture of energy-intensive sewage pumps and gravity that take waste-water down to the treatment plant and heat and mechanically disturb it purify of many of the worse contaminates before dumping it into the Hudson River.

I am certainly a lot more careful about my water use when camping, as I am usually limited to the six gallons I have in the two three-gallon containers I have. I can usually re-fill them every few days, but that water has to used for all cooking and cleaning purposes. I often use paper plates and bowls, and try to avoid as many dishes as possible, but some cleaning is always necessary. But conservation is the name of the game in the wilderness — even when I’m washing dishes, I’m trying to minimize water use as much as possible by scrubbing them out with paper towels, rising and soaping them with as little water as possible.

When I own my own land, and an off-grid place, water conservation will be the name of the game, especially if I don’t have an always-on water pump. โ˜ธ There is nothing wrong with using a water tank up on the second floor and using gravity for flow. That’s the most energy efficient way to go, although you gain muscle yourself by hauling water upstairs. But if you filling the water by hand, you much more likely to conserve it. And conservation is the name of game. If I had a septic system, I would make sure to keep food waste separated out in the sink for compost, and used toilet paper in a wastebasket for incineration in a burn barrel. As who wants to pay to have their tank pumped, with all the solids ultimately going to a landfill?

Conservation is important, but it’s not really part of the modern suburban experience. I’m sure the landlord wishes I did more, and I probably should try harder, but all the incentives are wrong when you have easily pumped and pressurized water as your disposal.

That rye bread I made this morning was pretty good ๐Ÿฅ–

Mom picked me up some rye flower and dill weed and adding some wheat flour, yeast, water, salt and some vital wheat gluten made some good bread. Wish I had more rise though, I could try more yeast next time or a higher portion of vital wheat gluten and less wheat flour. Wheat flour is difficult as it is very low in gluten and is heavy with all that healthy protein and fiber.

Good morning! Happy Thursday. Mostly sunny and 30 degrees in Albany, NY. There is a west breeze at 5 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. There are 0.3 inches of snow on the ground. โ˜ƒ ๏ธCold start to the morning, though warming up quickly, it will be above freezing by 9 AM.

Rode my bike in again to work today. ๐Ÿšฒ Like I do most days, while the weather is decent. Today is share cookies day in the office ๐Ÿช so I had to be careful riding in with my bike box full with my laptop, lunch, snacks, and a large glass pyrex container full of cookies I baked. ๐Ÿ“ฆ ๐Ÿช ๐Ÿ’ป ๐ŸŽ’ But with careful ride in on the somewhat snowy and icy bike trail I made it in safely. I did make sure my basket was good and tight to the panier rack, and things bungeed down, and easy on the bumps.

Today will be sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 37 degrees at 1pm. Two degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around December 18th. West wind 5 to 7 mph. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning, remaining cloudy in the afternoon. The high last year was 31 degrees. The record high of 63 was set in 1901. 12.5 inches of snow fell back in 1956.โ„

Working back downtown again today. ๐Ÿ“ƒ I wouldn’t want to miss the exchange cookies day this afternoon, ๐Ÿช plus I like the

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 11:50 am with sun having an altitude of 24.1° from the due south horizon (-46.6° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 13.4 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 3:37 pm with the sun in the southwest (231°). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-southwest (239°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 4:23 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 24 seconds with dusk around 4:53 pm, which is 11 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the Waxing Crescent ๐ŸŒ’ Moon in the southwest (223°) at an altitude of 6° from the horizon, 230,431 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 5:30 pm. At sunset, look for mostly clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 36 degrees. There will be a south-southwest breeze at 5 mph. Today will have 9 hours and 7 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 34 seconds over yesterday.

Big Red passed his inspection with no issues, ๐Ÿ”Ž๐Ÿ›ป the oil changed and tires rotated. Prices have gone up a bit in the shop, I think it was about $94 bucks for all three things but I should be good until next summer except should random things break or need repair before then. Makes me want to go back to changing my own oil, lol. ๐Ÿ›ข I want to get another year out of Big Red if at all possible, so I’ll feed it parts beyond engine or transmission tear-down type repairs. ๐Ÿ‘ฉ‍๐Ÿ”ง Rust continues to be an issue but I’ve been painting it with red primer, and some point maybe in the spring I’ll cover with duplicate color match. ๐Ÿ‘จ‍๐ŸŽจ I haven’t put the hub caps back on, will do this weekend after I do a quick check of the torque of the wheel nuts, lest the shop mess that up. ๐Ÿ”ง Can’t happen twice, right?

Tonight will be mostly clear ๐ŸŒƒ, with a low of 28 degrees at 3am. Five degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around November 29th. South wind around 8 mph. In 2022, we had cloudy skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 16 degrees. The record low of -8 occurred back in 1874.

Today in 1994, started construction begins on the Three Gorges Dam on the Yangtze river. The Three Gorges Dam has been the world’s largest power station in terms of installed capacity (22,500 MW) since 2012. In 2014, the dam generated 98.8 terawatt-hours (TWh) and had the world record, but was surpassed by the Itaipú Dam, which set the new world record in 2016, producing 103.1 TWh. ๐Ÿž Also, today was a notable date in civil rights history, with the release of the Heart of Atlanta Motel, Inc. v. United States, 379 U.S. 241 (1964), a landmark United States Supreme Court case holding that the Commerce Clause gave the U.S. Congress power to force private businesses to abide by Title II of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, which prohibits discrimination in public accommodations.

Mild and pretty nice for the weekend. ๐Ÿ˜€ Friday is going to be in the fifties. And Saturday, partly sunny, with a high near 45. North wind around 6 mph. Sunday, more clouds push in especially late, with a high near 47. Typical average high for the weekend is 38 degrees.

Looking ahead, next Thursday is First Day of Winter โ˜ƒ๏ธ when the sun will be setting at 4:26 pm with dusk at 4:56 pm. On that day in 2022, we had mostly sunny and temperatures between 34 and 16 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 37 degrees. We hit a record high of 62 back in 2018.

Where have all the August days gone, long time passing? โ›ฑ๏ธ๐Ÿฉด๐Ÿฆ•๐ŸŒฝ๐ŸŽช๐ŸŽข๐ŸŽก

Where have all the August days gone,
With memories from dawn to dusk?
They slipped through time’s gentle hand,
Leaving memories in the mud and muck.

Good morning! August days fade away as mostly wet memories — though it looks like come September a beautiful stretch of weather is ahead. Did you see that big blue moon last night? Mostly clear and 56 degrees in Delmar, NY. ๐ŸŒ… There is a north-northwest breeze at 9 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 51 degrees.

A nice morning for the walk ๐Ÿšถ. I have chickpeas cooking down on the stove this morning ๐Ÿฒ in a second attempt to make hummus again this time with fully cooked down chickpeas, sufficient salt and olive oil and fresh lemon ๐Ÿ‹. This time hopefully it will be a nice smooth mixture. ๐Ÿ›ป Tomorrow at this time my hope is to be heading towards Tribes Hill for Samdil’s Farm to stock up ๐ŸŒฝ ๐Ÿ† ๐Ÿ… ๐Ÿฅฉ ๐Ÿฅš prior to the Adirondacks. โ›ฐ๏ธ

Today will be sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 73 degrees at 4pm. Seven degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around September 19th. Maximum dew point of 50 at 6am. North wind 8 to 10 mph. Very autumn like day ahead. A year ago, we had cloudy skies in the morning with more sun in the afternoon. The high last year was 79 degrees. The record high of 93 was set in 1953.

Closing out summer what seems like much too soon ๐ŸŒป but it always seems to happen this way. I went out to Bender Mellon Preserve ๐Ÿˆ after finishing off the last cantaloupe last night probably the last time after work until next spring due to the early sunset. Dark and shadowy now for the morning walk too as the sun rises later.

The red lentil wraps I made yesterday worked out good, ๐Ÿณ they were tasty with just the right amount of added sea salt. Again the key was soaking the lentils in advance all day so they were big and soft when they hit the food processor to make a good batter. ๐Ÿฅž Ultimately they were delicious with the red kidney beans and maple syrup ๐Ÿ for dinner though I’m sure if I had kept more water in mix they would have been excellent wraps. Might try again up at camp this weekend.

Glad I rode back and forth to work yesterday ๐Ÿšฒ as there was a car ๐Ÿš™ ๐Ÿ”ฅ fire on the Thruway and 787 was quite backed up plus I saved $2.70 for the day and got good exercise. Strong west wind coming out of the Norman’s Kill Gorge but I knocked it down and climbed slowly in lower gear โš™. Going to do the same today.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:57 pm with sun having an altitude of 56.1° from the due south horizon (-14.7° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 4 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 6:56 pm with the sun in the west (276°). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-northwest (283°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 7:34 pm after setting for 2 minutes and 58 seconds with dusk around 8:01 pm, which is one minute and 41 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 8:38 pm. At sunset, look for clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 69 degrees. The dew point will be 49 degrees. There will be a north breeze at 6 mph. Tomorrow will have 13 hours and 13 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 2 minutes and 46 seconds over today.

Tonight will be clear ๐ŸŒƒ, with a low of 50 degrees at 6am. Eight degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around September 22nd. North wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the evening. In 2022, we had cloudy skies. It got down to 55 degrees. The record low of 41 occurred back in 1967.

Funny thing about all this warm weather coming up next week ๐Ÿ˜Ž is I am already thinking a lot about the soups I can make up for cheap this winter, and are a bit disappointed that coming week isn’t going to be good soup weather. I was researching the use of canned broth and bouillon mixes and making my own stock for soup in coming months. ๐Ÿž ๐Ÿฒ Bouillon is cheapest and easiest way to add flavor to soup and other meals, and broth is fine though it seems like a lot of packaging, and once you open it up, you kind of have to use it up quickly. Most bouillon is high in salt though, in part due to it’s use as a preservative, but also taste. The flipside is the salt in bouillon means you can leave it out of the rest of the soup, and soup can keep you going most of the day. Stock is a good way to go if I have time — a whole chicken isn’t that expensive and I think I have a big enough pot. I am thinking soup is a great way to make a lot of healthy meals cheaply, and would be so good with the simple, whole wheat bread like I made up earlier in the week.

On this day in 1965, Super Guppy took it’s first flight. The Aero Spacelines Super Guppy is a large, wide-bodied cargo aircraft that is used for hauling outsize cargo components. ๐Ÿ›ฌ It was the successor to the Pregnant Guppy, the first of the Guppy aircraft produced by Aero Spacelines, which in turn was named for its resemblance to a pregnant guppy. Five were built in two variants, both of which were colloquially referred to as the “Super Guppy”.

A truly beautiful Labor Day Weekend on tap. ๐Ÿ˜Ž Friday, clear and crisp 74. Might want to wear jeans and even a long shirt for heading up north! Saturday, mostly sunny, with a high near 81. South wind 3 to 8 mph. Maximum dew point of 59 at 4pm. Sunday, mostly sunny, with a high near 85. Maximum dew point of 66 at 4pm. Labor Day, sunny heading up to 90. Typical average high for the weekend is 79 degrees.

I packed clothes and filled the water containers ๐ŸŽ’ in preparation for Labor Day Weekend and will finish packing this evening. I want to be to bed well before 9 PM, maybe 8:30 so I can get a very early start tomorrow, and be on the road before 7 AM if at al possible, so I can hit Spectulator by nine or so. Not because I’m planning on working ๐Ÿ’ค but I want to get that Hardwood Hill Campsite if at all possible, and then have the hammock set up and be all set up by mid-day, after which I’ll go for a nice bike ride. ๐Ÿšฒ I was thinking on Saturday or Sunday when it’s warmer, one option would be to ride down to Jessup River to cool off in the creek, although I almost want to drive down just so I can bring the tube for floating and cooling off. ๐ŸŠ‍โ™€๏ธ Going to be hot come Labor Day, though not excessively hot up north — but it is September. Still with the sun, it could get pretty warm up on Hardwood Hill, should I get that campsite.

Looking ahead, there are 6 weeks until Columbus Day Weekend starts โ›ต when the sun will be setting at 6:20 pm with dusk at 6:47 pm. Can you believe only six weeks until that one final big blast of autumn color? On that day in 2022, we had partly sunny, shallow fog and temperatures between 71 and 41 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 63 degrees. We hit a record high of 85 back in 1954.

Blue to Yellow

Try that in a small town ๐Ÿšœ

The summer of my fortieth year slowly fades away with too many peaches and sweet corn where that Jason Aldean song is played over and over again until the groove on MP3 is worn out, though the era of clicks and pops are long gone. I was noticing how old and chubby Mr. Aldean has gotten but let’s be honest after all the good eating and mostly the beer of the past weekend I’ve put on some pounds. The wrinkles in my face, well I’m forty.

Good morning! Happy Monday. Only one more remaining until the Labor Day Weekend ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ as time fades away so quickly. Very cloudy and 64 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜ Calm wind. The dew point is 61 degrees. At least it’s not currently raining โ˜”. Maybe because I’m back home. Sucks that the best day of the long weekend that was after you took down camp, though I had a lot of fun riding Blackie ๐Ÿšต on the Canalway everywhere from Little Falls to Saint Johnsville to Jacksonberg.

I’m out and walking ๐Ÿšถ this morning. Need to get milk ๐Ÿฅ› after the walk and checking on the brown rice, red lentils and green peas cooking down for this week’s food ration. Not that I ever do anything in moderation. Then a shower ๐Ÿšฟ – I turned the hot water back on – and I’m thinking of taking Blackie ๐Ÿšต to work as I’m not ready to face the bus ๐Ÿš plus I want to burn some extra calories on top of the 18 floors of stairs to the office ๐Ÿข and the walking.

Today will have a chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly between 1pm and 5pm. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฆ, with a high of 81 degrees at 12pm. One degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around August 22nd. Maximum dew point of 69 at 12pm. Light and variable wind becoming north 5 to 10 mph in the morning. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. It was somewhat humid. The high last year was 88 degrees. The record high of 98 was set in 1916.

Got home around 8:30 pm mainly because I didn’t leave Little Falls until 7:15 ๐Ÿ›ป as I ended up exploring more of Moss Island ๐Ÿ and didn’t want to take Thruway so I shunpiked my way back along NY 5 then over through Rural Grove to US 20 Duanesburg. I just wanted to avoid the city ๐Ÿ™ as much as possible though I ended up hitting some of the traffic on the closing day of the Altamont Fair. ๐ŸŽก Can you believe that’s already done for the year?

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 1:00 pm with sun having an altitude of 59.6° from the due south horizon (-11.3° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 3.5 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 7:12 pm with the sun in the west (281°). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-northwest (288°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 7:50 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 2 seconds with dusk around 8:18 pm, which is one minute and 33 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the First Quarter ๐ŸŒ“ Moon in the southwest (234°) at an altitude of 17° from the horizon, 243,345 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 8:56 pm. At sunset, look for partly cloudy skies ๐ŸŒƒ and temperatures around 73 degrees. The dew point will be 63 degrees. There will be a north breeze at 8 mph. Tomorrow will have 13 hours and 40 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 2 minutes and 40 seconds over today.

It looks like I need a M5 0.8 bolt for my bike, probably 15mm but I think it best to pull the bolt out from the other side ๐Ÿ”ฉ and bring it to the hardware store. I was going to just stop at Hannaford on my bike ride home, but I’m worried about loading down the rack with the missing bolt and rattling over that one rough section of the trail between Hannaford and the bike path. I’m thinking a better option ๐Ÿ”ง would be to pull the bolt out of the opposite size, then drive to Lowes (in part because Phillips Hardware closes at 7 PM) and get groceries and supplies at Wally World this evening. Some things I can get only get at Wally World and they’re likely cheaper then Hannaford and have a better chance of having that plain greek yougurt that I like.

Tonight will be mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒ’, with a low of 55 degrees at 6am. Five degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around September 9th. Maximum dew point of 64 at 6pm. Northwest wind 6 to 9 mph. In 2022, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became partly cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It became humid as the night progressed. It got down to 70 degrees. The record low of 39 occurred back in 1982.

On this day in 1959, United States President Dwight D. Eisenhower signs an executive order proclaiming Hawaii the 50th state of the union. I guess that makes Barack Obama a US Citizen. ๐Ÿ Plus a good place to pineapples. Right now they’re so cheap, only $2 at Walmart and Hannaford has them on sale for $2.50. Lot of fruity goodness, if you use a knife and aren’t afraid to cut it yourself. Beats the moldy pee-cut pin apple in a trash container or tinned pineapple in sugar, rather compostable, natural way of eating it.

Cool this weekend with temperatures running 8 degrees below normal but otherwise sunny. ๐Ÿ˜ƒ Saturday, partly sunny, with a high near 74. Maximum dew point of 63 at 10am. Sunday, mostly sunny, with a high near 73. Maximum dew point of 57 at 11am. Typical average high for the weekend is 81 degrees. Saturday is John Wolcott’s funeral, I am wondering I can bring a change of clothes to do some mountain biking ๐Ÿšต after getting all dressed up and swanky looking in my much too large suit ๐Ÿ‘” for the funeral. I think I’ve gained some weight but not a lot and my goal is loose it this week.

Looking ahead, there are 2 weeks until Labor Day ๐Ÿ‘จ‍๐Ÿญ when I hope to be camping in Spectulator with the sun will be setting at 7:26 pm with dusk at 7:54 pm. On that day in 2022, we had hot, humid, partly sunny, rain showers and temperatures between 87 and 61 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 79 degrees. We hit a record high of 97 back in 1929.

Lows Ledge

It’s Monday – Let’s go chase that ducking money ๐Ÿ’ต

I mean Dan Halloran wasn’t wrong. Sometimes you got to swim in the mud and muck in the Cesspool of New York State to pay for the days riding Blackie through the cow shit and horse manure of Schuyler County. Those ten days went by so quickly and I’m back in Albany with the rain falling down doing my morning. The first day back is always the hardest, especially on such a dreary day but those eighteen flights of stairs must be climbed even with the door to door service of the local.

Good morning! Monday’s come back around again. Time for the morning walk and that old John Prine record. And maybe Paul Simon. ๐ŸŽถ Rain I know I’m shocked and 65 degrees for the morning walk in Delmar, NY. โ˜ There is a south-southeast breeze at 5 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 60 degrees. The skies will clear tomorrow around 9 am.

Out walking this morning ๐Ÿšถ in the rain like so many days lately back in the Albany. The weather was so unbelievably nice out in the Finger Lakes. ๐Ÿ“ป But it also was nice camping ๐Ÿ• somewhere without cell service ๐Ÿ”• and no radio – avoiding the shit known as the news, all bad and useless crap – and the even worse social media. I heard that Florida Man got indicted for even more felonies over the past week and might soon be subject to a protective order. Good for him and I do think his cases will ultimately for first amendment law โš– and restorative justice. I mean he will likely be the first felon ever to be a major presidential party candidate. ๐Ÿ‘ฉ๐Ÿป‍โš–๏ธMaybe he’s bad for our country but he’s a good force for it’s laws. Crises are often best the time for reform. I’m excited about some of the second amendment cases in front of the Supreme Court in the coming year. ๐Ÿ”ซ Whatever you think it Florida man, be has been a voice for change in the justice system – many times unintentionally.

Not to be overally negative after vacation, but I know I wouldn’t return to Albany if I didn’t like playing in the shit of the Cesspool, ๐Ÿ’ฉ and making that big boy money ๐Ÿ’ต from my corner office that overlooks the Capitol, Empire State Plaza and also the Hudson River and Dunn landfill that is when the caustic smoke from the Canada wildfires doesn’t drown out the skyline. I mean I wouldn’t listen to Paul Simon’s Duncan if I didn’t like that song. Like so many things in this world. It’s so hard to get up and going after 10 days of pure delight out in the Finger Lakes. I wish I could live every day out in the woods, in the country. ๐Ÿšœ But alas, I’m back in the city, back taking the local bus downtown to work. I know it’s going to be a great week, ๐Ÿ˜€ I have good healthy food to eat,

Today will have showers and thunderstorms before 10am, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm between 10am and noon, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after noon. Some of the storms could produce gusty winds and heavy rain. ๐ŸŒง High of 75 degrees at 4pm. Six degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around September 8th. Maximum dew point of 71 at 3pm. ๐Ÿ–๏ธ Southeast wind 8 to 11 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New not rainfall amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible. A year ago, we had cloudy skies. It became very sticky as the day progressed. The high last year was 91 degrees. The record high of 102 was set in 1918.

Pots of red kidney beans, brown rice with red lentils and split peas are cooking down this morning on the stove. ๐Ÿง‘‍๐Ÿณ Good carbs cooking down to be the basis of many meals this week. I double checked to make sure they were properly refrigerated or frozen and the stove off before leaving for work on the local bus ๐Ÿš. I was hoping to ride to work today ๐Ÿšฒ but the weather is not cooperating and I wasn’t running early enough to catch the express after all that cooking and breakfast to say nothing about the morning walk. Oatmeal pancakes ๐Ÿฅž for breakfast with some chia seeds mixed in and topped with frozen peaches, strawberries, mango and whatever else was in the blend with a little sugar free maple syrup.

I ended up spending a shocking ๐Ÿคฏ $120 in food this week at Hannaford, I fully admit I should have gone to Wally World last night but I was tired and my pantry was bare. I did end up rugged getting a lot of things, many things like the 5 lb bag of brown rice should last a few weeks. They didn’t have store brand only 5 lb of Carolina brown rice but the price was reasonable for a bag that size. They also had non-fat plain Greek yogurt actually in stock at Hannaford so I ended up buying 2 large containers as it can be hard to get locally. Unopened Greek yogurt has a shelf life of about two months refrigerated and two years frozen, which I was reading how good it freezes. Not that it would ever last that long because that’s how I get my dairy fix ๐Ÿฎ these days, though I try to eat in moderation st least when I’m not on vacation. ๐Ÿ‹ I also bought big bags of red and Vidalia onions ๐Ÿง…and lemons because I enjoyed such things a lot on vacation. Both can be used in so many meals, plus I’m hooked on fresh squeezed stevia lemonade especially on a hot summer evenings. There is worse things to be hooked on.

I do wish I had stopped at that farm stand I passed in Chenango County to get zucchini and more sweet corn ๐ŸŒฝ ๐Ÿ† but summer isn’t over and I should be able to get both at the farmers market at the Plaza this week. I forgot how wonderful zucchini I when I got some and chopped it up and fried it. I was tired ๐Ÿ˜ด and just kind of focused on getting home yesterday after vacation then stopping at farm stands. ๐Ÿคท I also would like to get more peaches ๐Ÿ‘ from the farm market, as they are so much better then the store-bought ones that are rock-hard and less tasty. Yesterday, I got plums ๐Ÿซ at the grocery store and they are pretty good. They are supposed to make your skin really shinny. Good after that sun tan I got last week. Trying to try new fruits when in season to learn new tastes, and maximize the health benefits of variety. Changes it up from apples and bananas ๐ŸŒ ๐Ÿ every week, though I still keep both of them in my office and like to have those for snacking.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 1:02 pm with sun having an altitude of 63.9° from the due south horizon (-7° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 2.9 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 7:30 pm with the sun in the west-northwest (287°). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-northwest (294°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 8:10 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 9 seconds with dusk around 8:40 pm, which is one minute and 18 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 9:20 pm. At sunset, look for rain ๐ŸŒง and thunderstorms ๐ŸŒฉ and temperatures around 73 degrees. The dew point will be 70 degrees. There will be a south-southeast breeze at 10 mph. Today will have 14 hours and 18 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 2 minutes and 22 seconds over yesterday.

More rain quite possibly tonight. They’re calling for a chance of showers and thunderstorms to start out the evening, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after 10pm. Some of the storms could produce gusty winds and heavy rain. ๐ŸŒฉ Cloudy, with a low around 68. South wind 9 to 13 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible. ๐Ÿ’ฆ I have to say I’m glad I’m not camping this week at least not in the Albany-area. ๐Ÿ˜ The Finger Lakes have been much drier then locally. I guess there isn’t much of a fire danger locally at this point. ๐Ÿš’ But I’m still hopeful to get out for my evening walk ๐Ÿšถ‍โ™€๏ธ after my dinner of salmon, rice, spinach, onions and any other thing that wets my appetite.  ๐ŸŸ ๐Ÿ˜‹

That said, we do have more good weather to look forward to come this weekend. ๐Ÿ˜Ž Saturday, a chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly sunny, with a high near 83. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Maximum dew point of 66 at 1pm. Sunday, ๐Ÿ˜‚a chance of showers. Partly sunny, with a high near 80. Chance of precipitation is 40%. Maximum dew point of 68 at 11am. Typical average high for the weekend is 83 degrees. Just kind of a chance of thunderstorms, but that’s to be expected on a summer weekend. The plans for the weekend are to be decided, but it seems so nice. ๐Ÿฆท I have my dental cleaning on Friday, so I have to take off the first part of the morning for that but it could also be jumping off start to the weekend. Schoharie? Potholers? Adirondacks? So many options, though it seems like lately I’m always on the road burning up increasingly expensive gasoline. โ›ฝ If the forecast slides downhill, I’m thinking of doing some mountain biking in the Albany Pine Bush, and getting some watermelon at Market 32 ๐Ÿ‰ which apparently is on sale this week. I do dig the sweetness of watermelon like that one I chomped on summer vacation.

Looking ahead, there are 2 weeks until World Mosquito Day ๐Ÿž when the sun will be setting at 7:50 pm with dusk at 8:18 pm. On that day in 2022, we had hot weather partly sunny skies and temperatures between 88 and 70 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 82 degrees. We hit a record high of 98 back in 1916.

Forked Lake

Finally a beautiful Saturday out in Schoharie and Delaware County after so many crappy weekends ๐Ÿšต๐ŸŠ๐Ÿ•๏ธ

After such a run of wet and bad weather we finally got a break and I got away from town. Awesome, although I will say that the pool is cold with the low dew point and the breeze. But it was great for hiking Platts Rocks then riding 26 miles round trip or the Catskill Scenic Trail. That said, I’m beat after all that bicycling, I barely want to hit the pool. But it’s fine, I got a shower and some pool time in and it will be closing for a bit and then be time to head up to camp.

Good evening! It’s been a pleasant day. Mostly sunny and 78 degrees at the Mine Kill State Park. There is a northwest breeze at 9 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 55 degrees.

Lol where to start! ๐Ÿ˜‚ Last night turned out much better than forecasted so I ended up deciding to ride out to the Bender Mellon Preserve ๐Ÿ‰ and hiking around that for nearly an hour, exploring the outside parameter trail and taking a bunch of pictures after deciding ๐Ÿ“ธ the trail wasn’t so wet yesterday and the skies were interesting. Then I decided to ride out to Voorheesville, down Main Street then out past the Voorheesville High School and library then down the rail trail to Adams Place then snaked through the subdivisions back home. ๐Ÿ By then it was late for packing for camp but I got some done like filling the water container and some other things but won’t say that I didn’t stay up late sitting out back and still had a bunch to do in the morning contributing to me not leaving until 9:30 am.

On my way out I realized I forgot toilet paper ๐Ÿšฝ and paper towels. Both are good for camping. What I ended up doing was going to Tops in Greenville and buying paper towels for both purposes. They’ll be good for both. Then I took NY 81 out to Oak Hill which is still closed west of there.

With the detour I ended up deciding to head over to Prattville and checking out Pratts Rock. What a beautiful day. ๐Ÿž Finally got to the Catskill Scenic Trail in Grand Gorge at 12 noon, rode until 1:45 when I got to Hobart at 1:40 pm when I stopped at the park for a while ๐Ÿšฒ and headed south almost to South Kortwright but turned back as I wanted to be back to my truck as close as possible to 4 pm so I could shower ๐Ÿšฟ and cool down in the pool. ๐ŸŠโ€โ™‚๏ธ Then off to camp at Betty Brook most likely though if the campsite on West Kill Road is open I might stay there.

Tonight will be mostly clear ๐ŸŒƒ, with a low of 54 degrees at 5am. Nine degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around September 12th. Maximum dew point of 56 at 7pm. Northwest wind 5 to 8 mph becoming calm in the evening. Going to be a cool evening especially here in the mountains. In 2022, we had partly cloudy skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It was somewhat humid. It got down to 65 degrees. The record low of 45 occurred back in 1981.

Tonight will have a Waxing Crescent ๐ŸŒ’ Moon with 22% illuminated. At 5 PM, the moon was in the south (185ยฐ) at an altitude of 51ยฐ from the horizon, some 249,518 miles away from where you are looking up from the earth. ๐Ÿš€ At the state speed limit of 55 mph, you’ll make it there by January 28th. Buckle up for safety! ๐Ÿ’บ The moon will set in the west (273ยฐ) at 11:05 pm. The Strugeon ๐Ÿก Moon is on Tuesday, August 1. The darkest hour is at 1:05 am, followed by dawn at 5:08 am, and sun starting to rise at 5:41 am in the east-northeast (61ยฐ) and last for 3 minutes and 17 seconds. Sunrise is 56 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ The golden hour ends at 6:22 am with sun in the east-northeast (68ยฐ). Tonight will have 9 hours and 9 minutes of darkness, an increase of one minute and 48 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will be sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 83 degrees at 5pm. One degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around August 3rd. Maximum dew point of 60 at 5pm. Calm wind. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. It was humid. The high last year was 97 degrees. The record high of 96 was set in 1955.

I’m undecided about my plans for tomorrow. ๐Ÿ’ญ I still want to get to the farm stands of the Schoharie Valley ๐ŸŒฝ ๐Ÿ… but I also kind of want to set up camp โ›บ and not have to secure it or take it down tomorrow. Plus I don’t love driving that rough Betty Brook Road, it’s tough on Big Reds aging suspension. ๐Ÿšฒ That said it could be a fun filled day. I might cycle from the Rest Area to Middleburgh, then poke around the village, get ice cream ๐Ÿฆ then hike Vromans Nose ๐Ÿ‘ƒ and turn hit up the farm stands, head back to Mine Kill Pool and swim some more before camp. Monday I will park in Stamford, ride down to Bloomfield and maybe hike not drive Utsaythana followed by a swim at Mine Kill before going out to see the folks before vacation which starts Friday.

In four weeks on August 19 the sun will be setting in the west-northwest (288ยฐ) at 7:55 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 34 minutes and 33 seconds earlier then today. In 2022 on that day, we had hot, mostly sunny and temperatures between 89 and 58 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 82 and 61 degrees. The record high of 92 degrees was set back in 1899.

Looking ahead, Work Like a Dog Day ๐Ÿฉ is Next Saturday (not likely to happen on vacation), Last Sunset After 8 PM ๐ŸŒ† is in 3 weeks, National Dog Day ๐Ÿฉ is in 5 weeks, Autumn ๐Ÿ‚ is in 2 months, Daylight Savings Time Ends ๐Ÿ›ฅ๏ธ is in 15 weeks, Veterans Day ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ is in 16 weeks, Regular Deer Season in Southern Zone ๐ŸฆŒ is in 17 weeks, Small Business Saturday ๐Ÿ›๏ธ is in 18 weeks, Average High is 40 ๐ŸŒจ is in 20 weeks, Earliest Sunset of the Year โŒ›๏ธ is in 20 weeks, Tea Party Day ๐Ÿ is in 21 weeks, Days are Getting Longer โ˜€๏ธ is in 5 months, Festivus ๐Ÿ– is in 22 weeks, Bacon Day ๐Ÿฅ“ is in 23 weeks and Bacon Day ๐Ÿฅ“ is in 23 weeks.

Happy World Population Day, at least if you are a mosquito or a tick ๐Ÿชฐ

We got a brief respite from the muggers after the rain and it cleared out. But the mosquitoes are celebrating their new found pools of water and the ticks have been so bad, I found one crawling up my leg in the office downtown yesterday.

Good morning! Clouds and 62 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜๏ธ Calm wind. The dew point is 61 degrees. Not quite as muggy as before the rain though it will be muggier come midday ๐Ÿ•›.

Out walking ๐Ÿšถ this morning, did 10.8 miles and 40 flights of stairs up and down yesterday, as the rain stopped early yesterday and it was nice for both for a lunch time walk and especially in the evening. So buggy down at the park but since they’ve improved the trails they’ve been pretty dry. I liked that cream of wheat with the frozen blueberries and Greek yogurt yesterday that I’m thinking that will be breakfast again with a fresh pot of coffee โ˜•. Quick breakfast too.

Black beans are cooking on the stove ๐Ÿฒ which I will use for a cold lunch with red onions ๐Ÿง… and sliced peppers ๐Ÿซ‘. Last night was kale – spinach blend as I ran out of the prior with some pasta and mackerel. ๐Ÿ  I was looking at the label ๐Ÿ”Ž trying to figure if mackerel or tuna fish is a healthier option but I guess it matters if you prioritize vitamins and minerals, along with total omega 3 over slightly more calories and saturated fat. Most of the calories comes from the pasta at any rate, which I used the last half box of white pasta I had left in my kitchen with 1 1/4 lb of frozen spinach and a half lb of frozen kale. Tuna fish salad thet won’t kill you! All that fiber with the delious omega 3 fat fills you up quickly so it’s not so bad but I’m only buying whole wheat or chickpea pasta going forward.

Yesterday the 40″ waist seam jeans and XXL shirt ๐Ÿ‘– I wore to work looked cartoonishly big on me, as I’ve lost so much weight. I’ve recently bought 38″ shorts thinking they’ll be good as I like my shorts loose and they also are running kind of big one. Even some of the XL shirts, especially undershirts now seem to big for me. I guess I never thought I would loose so much weight so quickly, though I’m still very hesitant to buy more clothes as I don’t know what size will fit well. Maybe come August I’ll have to shop the thrift stores to see what I can get, although it’s still tough as I’m so tall. I just worry about weight gain though I think I’ve really changed what I eat.

Speaking of which I was really happy to hear that Stanton now has both sweet corn ๐ŸŒฝ and tomatoes ๐Ÿ…. I am not really sure which I’m most excited about, probably my favorite nightshade as tomatoes are so good in many foods and fresh tomatoes are the best! If I go to Schoharie this weekend I’m hoping to get somewhere I can stock up. I’ll eat them quickly so they don’t ret a chance to go bad, lol ๐Ÿ˜‚.

Today will start out cloudy, then gradually becoming sunny โ˜๏ธ๐Ÿคœ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 88 degrees at 5pm. Kind of a game of weather punch buggy, as the sun and hot weather push out the cooler rainer weather of yesterday. Four degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 65 at 11am. Light and variable wind becoming west 5 to 10 mph in the morning. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning with a few breaks of sun the afternoon. The high last year was 91 degrees. The record high of 98 was set in 1936.

At this point I’m getting a bit impatient about getting Blackie ๐Ÿšต as last night I figured out what heavy gauge u-bolt lock to get to secure my bicycle, a USB rechargeable long lasting rear light for the rear and a waterproof carrying mount for my phone. ๐Ÿ“ฑ I tested out my phone to see if it would work okay as a GPS bicycle speedometer / trip odometer, turned out that 45 minutes on and off the bus with the GPS location and screen on only used 3% of the battery life, so should be good. ๐Ÿ”‹

Mostly want it to keep track of distance out on the trip so I know how long the return will be though watching my speed on the down hills would be fun and I want to track my distance. It’s good that I can avoid adding any more expenses to this ever growing bicycle project. ๐Ÿ’ธBut I figure now is the time to equip the bicycle as I want it, so it will be ready for adventures as close to day one as possible and I can work out kinks before vacation. ๐Ÿ–

One issue I might run into is I don’t know if the Trek MIK rack will fit on the XXL model of the Marlin 6. ๐Ÿšฒ I’m going to ask and buy at the shop when I pick up the bicycle for just that reason. If not there are many after market bike rack systems you can get and either use a MIK adapter or maybe a different rack system. I just want something I can bolt ๐Ÿ”ฉ to a milk crate storage containers and do the quick release for packing inside or at camp, and load the bike in the truck or on the bus ๐Ÿš. I really want to have the storage before vacation especially for longer rides so I can bring lunch and supplies without having them in a backpack ๐ŸŽ’ on my back in the heat. I might even do some hammock camping on vacation depending on where I’m riding.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 1:01 pm with sun having an altitude of 69.5ยฐ from the due south horizon (-1.3ยฐ vs. 6/21). The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 7:52 pm with the sun in the west-northwest (295ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-northwest (302ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 8:35 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 23 seconds with dusk around 9:07 pm, which is 29 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 9:53 pm. At sunset, look for mostly clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 82 degrees. The dew point will be 65 degrees. There will be a west breeze at 5 mph. Today will have 15 hours and 9 minutes of daytime, a decrease of one minute and 14 seconds over yesterday.

The Verizon salesman ๐Ÿ“ด stalked me out at home last evening, seeing if I would be interested in signing up for internet today. ๐Ÿ–ฅ I was like not really bro, I don’t have a TV or internet at home and I’m not really interested in all that technology stuff. He wasn’t that persistent when he learned I didn’t own a television or had a computer at home (I store my laptop at work). Truth is during the pandemic that was the closest I ever got to getting home internet as it was cold especially in the winter working out of my truck ๐Ÿ›ป down at the library but now with unlimited phone data and 5 GB Hotspot, I’d much rather just use my phone ๐Ÿ“ฑ. Phones are so powerful these days, yet they are so portable, can he used virtually anywhere and use very little electricity to charge. ๐Ÿ”‹ Heck, I’ll probably leave my laptop locked in my office ๐Ÿข rather than bring it on vacation this year.

Tonight will be mostly clear ๐ŸŒƒ, with a low of 64 degrees at 6am. One degree above normal. Maximum dew point of 65 at 8pm. West wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the evening. In 2022, we had mostly clear skies. It was humid. It got down to 70 degrees. The record low of 44 occurred back in 1978.

After reading ๐Ÿ“– more of the Boggleheads Guide to Investing, I just ordered up my yearly free credit report ๐Ÿ“œ and no surprises there, it was super boring ๐Ÿ’ค and accurate. I did find one issue – my Experian report wasn’t properly locked ๐Ÿ”’ so I did that to protect against identity theft. The other two were good. Updated my assets spreadsheet, ๐Ÿงฎ that’s looking far better now than six months ago. I was pleasantly surprised that my ratio of bonds to stocks has increased but then again I’ve been buying more bonds lately as I’m getting older ๐Ÿง“. The higher fed rate is helping with the cash side of things too. Far better than wasted year in the market in 2022. The out year projections look good, based on the past decade but I’m sure we are going to have a recession but I figure that’s just a loss on paper and in the long run, it’s a potential for gain.

On this day in 1962, live television was transmitted for the first time across the Atlantic Ocean. On Telstar! ๐Ÿ“บ Seems odd nowadays, when so much commerence is global and we can access a server next door as quickly as in France. ๐Ÿ‡ซ๐Ÿ‡ท Of course ultimately Telstar ๐Ÿ“ก would be destroyed by above ground nuclear โš› testing. ๐Ÿ’ฃWhich was pure foolishness of a deadly kind of way that was making the sweet corn ๐ŸŒฝ radio and putting strontium 90 in children’s ice cream cones. ๐ŸฆNow we just have PFAS and dioxin in our ice cream and everything else.

A nice summer weekend ahead. ๐ŸŠโ€โ™‚๏ธ โ›บ Saturday, scattered showers and thunderstorms after 2pm. Partly sunny, with a high near 86. Chance of precipitation is 40%. Maximum dew point of 70 at 11am. Sunday, scattered showers and thunderstorms. Partly sunny, with a high near 86. Chance of precipitation is 50%. Maximum dew point of 71 at 11am. Monday, scattered showers and thunderstorms. Mostly sunny, with a high near 88. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Typical average high for the weekend is 84 degrees.

Still thinking this is the weekend to go out to Schoharie ๐Ÿ• ๐ŸŠ though a lot depends on timing of getting Blackie, my new bike. ๐Ÿšด I keep waiting for that call from the shop, though I realize it’s only been two days, or maybe three. Maybe I’ll get the call this afternoon, though I’m not sure if I can leave work early today, but maybe tomorrow. I guess I don’t need to have the rack on my bicycle, I can use a backpack ๐ŸŽ’ for this weekend for supplies along the rail trail but I do want to get things tested out. I haven’t decided about Monday yet, but it looks like a much better day to take off then Friday.

As previously noted, there are 3 weeks until August ๐ŸŒป when the sun will be setting at 8:17 pm with dusk at 8:48 pm. On that day in 2022, we had hot, partly sunny and temperatures between 89 and 69 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 84 degrees. We hit a record high of 101 back in 1933.

Beautiful Day Despite the Heat
