Olana At Sunset

Walking the grounds of Olana on a cold winters day.

Taken on Saturday December 11, 2010 at Olana.

Last day of the year riding home from work at least at five o’clock ๐Ÿšฒ

Doesn’t necessarily mean that I won’t still ride in the morning or if I can ask the big director to leave early occasionally I can leave early to ride home. But soon a lot more busing it home on the express hopefully! The authority is about to get rich on my back.

Good morning! Yeah, it’s Friday! Time to blow this town, head out to Mad County come Saturday. Kind of like West Virginia but with more cows and smaller hills and no coal fields but more manure. ๐Ÿ’ฉ Partly clear and 35 degrees in Delmar, NY. ๐ŸŒ… There is a south-southeast breeze at 8 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. Going to need the gloves ๐Ÿงค for the ride in.

My arm is a bit sore ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿป feels like I spent the day at the range ๐Ÿ”ซ from getting my COVID and flu jabs ๐Ÿ’‰ last night but I made up for it with a protein packed breakfast of eggs ๐Ÿณ with edamame ๐ŸŸข, broccoli, onions and topped with lots of cottage cheese, tumeriac and nutritional yeast. Lunch is brown rice with lentils and even more edamame and tumeriac. ๐Ÿš Got to have that protein to make my arm feel good. And coffee โ˜• with cinnamon and ginger. Ginger and turmeric are supposed to reduce pain and aches. But I’ll be pissing like a cow in a pasture today. But then again tomorrow I’ll be heading to Madison County where they have a lot of them. ๐Ÿฎ

Had a mouse ๐Ÿ making a ton of noise last night after I got up to take a piss ๐Ÿšฝ in part because I drunk extra water ๐Ÿ’ฆ yesterday after getting vaxxed as recommended by the CDC to help with symptoms. I’m going to have to try the bucket trap again ๐Ÿชค or get more sticky traps as the spring trap isn’t working well as they keep picking the peanut ๐Ÿฅœ butter off it. Plus my arm ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿป started to hurt a bit after waking up. Annoying as hell but I made up for it by sleeping into six. โฐ No need to rush as the rice ๐Ÿš doesn’t take as long as many of the soups I cook makes.

Got the space heater out yesterday. โ™จ And also the heating pad and electric blanket though the later is not yet on my bed. ๐Ÿ› Only used the heating pad and space heater briefly the other night when my fingers were cold from riding home. Need to work on using some sealant tape around the door ๐Ÿšช to stop air leaks and put the storm windows ๐ŸชŸ back in and lock the other windows for the winter. โ„ I think the cold season is back but just wait and we’ll have a heat wave ๐ŸŒŠ during this El Niño winter. โ˜€ Holding off on the central gas heat for now, as it’s not so cold plus the cooking each morning warms things up.

Today will be mostly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 55 degrees at 3pm. Not as cold mercury wise but it might feel colder with the wind. One degree above normal, which is similar to a typical day around November 2nd. South wind 8 to 17 mph, with gusts as high as 28 mph. Going to feel that wind riding home past Ezra Prentiss one last time before the time change. ๐ŸŒฌ๏ธ ๐Ÿšฒ A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning with sunny skies in the afternoon. The high last year was 68 degrees. The record high of 75 was set in 1990. 0.9 inches of snow fell back in 1951.โ„

Why can’t we have such nice weather for the four 4โƒฃ days election weekend? ๐Ÿ—ณ I stuffed my split ticket ballot ๐Ÿ—ณ into the box so I’m free to head to Madison County to camp โ›บ and ride trail ๐Ÿšต assuming that I can get the day off but it doesn’t look like a problem from the work calendar ๐Ÿ—“.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:40 pm with sun having an altitude of 32.4° from the due south horizon (-38.4° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 9.5 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 5:07 pm with the sun in the west-southwest (243°). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-southwest (250°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 5:47 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 5 seconds with dusk around 6:15 pm, which is one minute and 15 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 6:50 pm. At sunset, look for partly clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 54 degrees. Breezy, 16 mph breeze โ›… from the south. Tomorrow will have 10 hours and 15 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 2 minutes and 31 seconds over today.

Got Udemy Business installed on my phone ๐Ÿ“ฑ which allows you to take free online classes on a wide variety of technical โš™ and computer ๐Ÿ–ฅ classes online with your library card ๐Ÿ’ณ at least those libraries that offer it ๐Ÿ“š which looks like mostly just the Bethlehem Library locally. I’m enrolled in a class on the basics of remote sensing ๐ŸŒŽ which is about using satellites ๐Ÿ›ฐ to detect what is happening on earth’s surface. Interesting stuff so many great classes offered. ๐Ÿง‘‍๐Ÿซ

I survived my vaxxing ๐Ÿ’‰ and while I noticed my shoulder was a bit sore ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿปcome the middle of the night it was worth it to know I’m significantly protected from the latest in the COVID and flu strains. Took both shots to the left arm. It was a nice walk ๐Ÿšถ to the pharmacy, and no I didn’t become autistic and stab myself with a knife ๐Ÿ—ก or go crazy ๐Ÿคช donate any money ๐Ÿ’ต to Sandy’s Hookers Promise. Honestly the only side effect I’ve had feels like an afternoon at the range with the kick of a shotgun. With ammo I bought down at West Virginia, lol ๐Ÿ˜‚. Don’t tell Governor Hokey that. She should be just proud that I got my jabs and now the geriatrics and mentally retarded immune suppressed children won’t die, or so we’ve been told. Actually at this point the pharmacy โš• isn’t even filling out the COVID cards ๐ŸŽด and it was quick in an out, no crowds or this fake bullshit vaccine patriotism of a few years back.

It was a pleasant evening for that walk. ๐Ÿƒ‍โ™€๏ธ As I won’t be riding home after tonight, I should plan to start doing more evening walks. I think I got out of the habit after riding home and being tired, after having a good meal and wanting to retire to bed with a book. ๐Ÿ“– But I really need to start doing more steps if I’m riding less. Got home and shredded some apples in the food processor ๐ŸŽ with cinnamon and ginger, had a good glass of water ๐Ÿฅ› and some yogurt in hope of avoiding the worse effects of the flu and COVID vaccine.

Tonight will be mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฅ, with a low of 38 degrees at 6am. Three degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around October 27th. South wind 8 to 13 mph. In 2022, we had clear skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 46 degrees. The record low of 17 occurred back in 1951.

Normally I wouldn’t head out of town right after vacation ๐Ÿ›ปbut it’s November and rifle season starts in two weeks and it might be cold and wet next week though the forecast has improved recently. The other director is off around Thanksgiving ๐Ÿฆƒ so that makes it difficult for me to extend that weekend plus I wouldn’t want to miss turkey day and we may have snow by then. Who know, winters coming. โ˜ƒ๏ธ

Tomorrow will be mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฅ, with a high of 56 degrees at 4pm. Two degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around October 31st. South wind around 7 mph. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning with sunny skies in the afternoon. The high last year was 71 degrees. The record high of 76 was set in 1994. There was a dusting of snow in 2006.โ„

Looking ahead to Sunday, partly sunny, with a high near 55. โ˜€ Calm wind becoming northwest around 6 mph in the afternoon. Definitely an improvement from a few days ago but maybe not quite as nice in Madison County That said if I can’t get Monday off its not the end of the world. Typical average high for the weekend is 54 degrees.

As previously noted, there are 3 weeks until Buy Nothing Day ๐Ÿ›๏ธ when the sun will be setting at 4:27 pm with dusk at 4:57 pm (Standard Time). On that day in 2022, we had partly sunny and temperatures between 49 and 24 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 46 degrees. We hit a record high of 70 back in 2014.

Vlomans Kill

A Warmer Thursday as It Gets Closer to Weekend.

Finally Starting to Warm Up This Thursday. This morning was about 14 degrees, which is much warmer then below zero, and there was no wind. A few snow flurries and a bright sun to make it feel warmer then it might really be. With a coat, doing work outdoors, it doesnโ€™t feel particularly cold one way or another. Finally, gave the heat a break, dropping it down to 50 degrees before work โ€“ itโ€™s warm enough that it will heat up quickly as needed.

Got to Go On My Evening Walk. It finally warmed up enough for the evening walk. It was a bit cool out during the walk, but that was my fault by not wearing gloves and just wearing a baseball hat. But once you got moving, the cold didnโ€™t seem that bad compared to whatโ€™s been lately.

Still the Coldest Time of the Year. That is weather-wise, based on the historical averages. I donโ€™t buy the claims that itโ€™s global warming or any other special phenomenon besides just winter. Winters may not be as cold and snowy as other parts of the country, but they still are pretty harsh, here in Albany.

Yesterday was Crazy at Work. I guess that was predictable, but it just seemed like there was so many things going on yesterday. In the end, everything worked out, but it was still pretty insane with the billion different things going on. Entering the busier time in the work, although at least I now have a better idea of what the schedule will be next year.

Three Months Will Be April 9th. Chances are that by that point, in many places we will be pretty much done with the snow. It might be dry and there might be burn bans, or maybe not. 83 days until April 1st too. Winter needs to run itโ€™s course, but before you will know it, the cold of the season will be giving up, and warmer and nicer days will be well on their way.

One step closer to a rather rainy but probably quiet weekend, as we work our ways through the week.

February 8, 2023 Morning

Good morning! What day is it? Farmers Market Day, of course. I’m really hoping they’ll have apples ๐Ÿ. Mostly cloudy and 34 degrees for the morning walk ๐Ÿšถ in the land of Delmaritian. โ˜ There is a northwest breeze at 10 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. There is a inch of snow on the ground. โ˜ƒ ๏ธTemperatures will drop below freezing at around 9 pm. โ˜ƒ๏ธ

Been trying to get an earlier start for the morning walk ๐Ÿšถ just because it means less smoldering cars in front of High School ๐Ÿšธ to breathe the toxic emissions and crazied motorists ๐ŸŽ around the High School. A quite dark morning with the clouds but going to clear later. Mild, I like that fact. I’m going to try to catch the earlier bus ๐Ÿš downtown as I’m up earlier.

With the oranges ๐ŸŠ and bananas ๐ŸŒmy fruit bowl looks nice at work. Provides good snacking throughout the day. ๐ŸŽ Now I just need to add apples.

Today will be mostly cloudy, then gradually becoming sunny โ˜ ๐Ÿ‘‰ โ˜€ , with a high of 40 degrees at 2pm. Six degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around February 28th. Kind of the opposite of yesterday. Northwest wind 10 to 15 mph. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 23 degrees. The record high of 52 was set in 1925. 14.0 inches of snow fell back in 1895.โ„

Probably going to have to use that brass lamp on my desk ๐Ÿ›‹๏ธ but whatever. One more session day dressed up and taking the local to work ๐Ÿš and then it’s back to the express. Tomorrow I might want to get my steps in early ๐Ÿ‘ฃ as it’s going to rain โ˜” again in the evening.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:10 pm with sun having an altitude of 32.3ยฐ from the due south horizon (-38.5ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 9.5 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 4:38 pm with the sun in the west-southwest (243ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-southwest (250ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 5:18 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 5 seconds with dusk around 5:47 pm, which is one minute and 19 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 6:21 pm. At sunset, look for mostly clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 38 degrees. There will be a northwest breeze at 10 mph. Tomorrow will have 10 hours and 21 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 33 seconds over today.

I didn’t listen to the State of the Union last night. ๐ŸŽค I get tired of all that politician crap and my sleep ๐Ÿ˜ด is valuable if I want to produce best results at work tomorrow. From listening to NPR this morning I don’t think I missed much. Lex Fridman podcast was more interesting interviewing that pschyatrist.

Tonight will have increasing clouds โ˜, with a low of 29 degrees at 5am. 13 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around March 24th. North wind around 6 mph becoming calm in the evening. In 2022, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became snow by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 8 degrees. The record low of -20 occurred back in 1934.

A picture perfect weekend on tap. ๐Ÿ˜Ž Saturday, mostly sunny, with a high near 38. Sunday, sunny, with a high near 42. Typical average high for the weekend is 35 degrees. What are the odds of that? Not going to be any snow around or at least not a lot. Muddy though.

Probably just a stay at home ๐Ÿก weekend, Saturday walking ๐Ÿšถ out to Five Rivers and Sunday Bennett Hill, maybe the Town Park ๐Ÿž and out to see the folks. ๐Ÿฒ

Looking ahead, there are 3 weeks until March ๐ŸŒจ when the sun will be setting at 5:45 pm with dusk at 6:12 pm. There is hope for spring but we all know that cold springs usually follow warm winters. On that day in 2022, we had mostly cloudy, snow showers and temperatures between 41 and 17 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 40 degrees. We hit a record high of 66 back in 2017.

February 1, 2023 Evening

Good evening! Mostly clear and 23 degrees in Delmar, NY. There is a west breeze at 7 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. There are 2 inches of snow on the ground. โ˜ƒ ๏ธThings will start to thaw out at tomorrow around noontime. ๐ŸŒก๏ธ

Cold evening for the walk ๐Ÿšถ but actually pretty normal for winter but after the January that was it feels even colder but truth is that I’m just not used to it. But by next week things will be pushing 50 again. ๐Ÿข Ever since I stepped out of the office this evening it was so cold out, even though I feel comfortable inside as I turned on the space heater then the electric blanket.

Tonight will have increasing clouds โ˜, with a low of 17 degrees at 12am. Two degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around February 11th. Maximum wind chill around 15 at 8pm; West wind 5 to 7 mph becoming south after midnight. In 2022, we had snow in the evening, which became light snow by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 20 degrees. The record low of -18 occurred back in 1961.

I had a rough day ๐Ÿ˜• though I realize my problems are all inside my head. It’s a tough world out there, I have to do the best I can to navigate it and invest in my own future ๐Ÿ”ฎ and not take on other people’s problems. A lot of things are unfair and I often think I’m getting a raw deal ๐Ÿค but I have it a lot better off then many people.

I watched somebody run a stopped school ๐Ÿšธ bus this morning and then I found out that the state tightened who could free file this year, so I’m left studying my options for how to file my taxes. ๐Ÿ“‚ Maybe I’ll do paper ๐Ÿ“„. But it made me angry ๐Ÿ˜ก especially after hearing how state leaders want to expand benefits for migrants. I think our state should encourage immigration but people should be working and encouraged to open businesses. Taxed enough already, especially when I’ve worked so hard and the government is handing out freebies left and right.

I never understood the anger ๐Ÿ’ข of my dairy farming friend over government welfare benefits to the poor but when you work your ass off at 5 am, ๐Ÿฎ and pay a shit ton of taxes on your land, you can understand the anger. Farms pay remarkably high taxes in New York even after all the programs. I know the feeling.

Tonight will have a Waxing Gibbous ๐ŸŒ” Moon with 88% illuminated. At 7 PM, the moon was in the east-southeast (107°) at an altitude of 58° from the horizon, some 249,989 miles away from where you are looking up from the earth. ๐Ÿš€ At the state speed limit of 55 mph, you’ll make it there by August 10th. Buckle up for safety! ๐Ÿ’บ.

The Snow โ„ Moon is on Sunday, February 5. The darkest hour is at 12:10 am, followed by dawn at 6:41 am, and sun starting to rise at 7:11 am in the east-southeast (113°) and last for 3 minutes and 9 seconds. Sunrise is one minute and 2 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ The golden hour ends at 7:52 am with sun in the east-southeast (120°). Tonight will have 13 hours and 56 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 2 minutes and 22 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will be partly sunny, then gradually becoming sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 37 degrees at 4pm. Four degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around February 18th. South wind 6 to 11 mph. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning, remaining cloudy in the afternoon. The high last year was 27 degrees. The record high of 53 was set in 1981. 11.9 inches of snow fell back in 2015.โ„

The truth is I’m just bitter about the cold today. ๐ŸŒฌ๏ธ The sun was nice but it was just such a nasty reminder about winter. I really want to get away from the long cold winters of New York but everything just takes so much longer financially and on my life then I would hope. I keep saving for a better tomorrow but I always feel like I’m treading on thin ice, if not falling through the ice gasping ๐Ÿ˜ฒ for air. Somehow at age 40 I thought I would be farther along in life, be more financially secure and have my own land ๐Ÿšœ. I just work so hard, and it’s such a slap in the face. But I’ll keep pushing, as I understand the power of compounding.

In four weeks on March 1 the sun will be setting in the west (261°) at 5:45 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 36 minutes later then tonight. In 2021 on that day, we had mostly cloudy, snow showers and temperatures between 41 and 17 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 40 and 22 degrees. The record high of 66 degrees was set back in 2017.

Looking ahead, March ๐ŸŒจ is a month away, Ides of March โœ is in 6 weeks, April Fools Day ๐Ÿคก is in 2 months, May ๐Ÿ•Š is in 3 months, Average High is 70 ๐Ÿฎ is in 14 weeks, Pack Rat Day ๐Ÿ€ is in 15 weeks, 9 PM Dusk ๐ŸŒ† is in 4 months, June ๐Ÿน is in 4 months, Summer ๏ธโ›ฑ๏ธ is in 20 weeks, July ๐ŸŠ๐Ÿฟ is in 5 months, Hottest Time of the Year ๐Ÿ˜… is in 22 weeks, Dog Days of Summer ๐ŸŒป is in 22 weeks, August ๐ŸŒป is in 6 months, Average High Falls To 79 ๏ธDegrees โ›ฑ๏ธ๏ธ๏ธ is in 30 weeks, Average High 70 ๐ŸŽ‘ is in 7 months, September ๐ŸŽ is in 7 months, Labor Day Weekend Begins ๐Ÿ‘จ‍๐Ÿญ is in 7 months, More Night then Day ๐ŸŒŒ is in 34 weeks, October ๐ŸŽƒ is in 8 months, Last Sunset After 6:30 PM ๐ŸŒ† is in 35 weeks, Average High is 55 ๐Ÿ‚ is in 9 months, November ๐Ÿฅง is in 9 months, Day After Election Day ๐Ÿ›€ is in 40 weeks, December ๐ŸŽ„ is in 10 months and Saint Nicholas Day ๐ŸŽ… is in 44 weeks.

Irene Damage

January 14, 2023 Morning

Good morning! Happy Saturday on this Martin Luther King ๐Ÿ‘‘ weekend. Overcast and 25 degrees in Delmar. โ˜ There is a north breeze at 10 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. Things will start to thaw out at tomorrow around 1 pm. ๐ŸŒก๏ธ

Today will cloudy with more sun later ๐ŸŒฅ, with a high of 33 degrees at 12pm. Typical for today. North wind around 11 mph, with gusts as high as 21 mph. A year ago, we had cloudy skies in the morning with more sun in the afternoon. The high last year was 32 degrees. The record high of 66 was set in 1932. 9.0 inches of snow fell back in 1999.โ„

Getting ready to head out of town. ๐Ÿ“ฆ Just a lot of packing and picking up things, though honestly for two nights it isn’t that much stuff I need especially as there isn’t much snow around. I’ll bring the shovel just in case but I’m not expecting a lot.

I really have mixed emotions about it all. ๐Ÿ›ป It looks like a cold winters day ๐ŸŒฌ๏ธ though the weekend will improve as it goes on. I don’t enjoy camping and traveling the way I once did, I have more and more anxiety about driving. But on the other hand, I do look forward to the open country ๐Ÿ„ and the rural landscape, and the fire ๐Ÿ”ฅ once its going and a nice warm dinner. Then hiking the truck trails tomorrow will be nice. But it’s also a lot of money I don’t have though I’m sure it will work out as my tank is still mostly full on my truck and I don’t need that much in groceries and supplies. Part of Mission Fifty is figuring out what is next, I’m not sure I want to keep doing the things in my forties that I found fun in my twenties and thirties.

Got to check โ˜‘ the oil ๐Ÿ›ข and load up the truck. Double check my packing list. Go through a second time and hopefully be on the road a little after 9:30 as I need to get groceries and supplies on my way out and want plenty of time to set up, gather firewood and maybe go for a walk before dark. โ›บ

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:05 pm with sun having an altitude of 26.1ยฐ from the due south horizon (-44.8ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 12.3 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 4:02 pm with the sun in the southwest (234ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-southwest (241ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 4:46 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 19 seconds with dusk around 5:16 pm, which is one minute and 9 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 5:52 pm. At sunset, look for mostly cloudy skies โ˜ and temperatures around 31 degrees. There will be a north breeze at 10 mph. Today will have 9 hours and 27 minutes of daytime, an increase of one minute and 36 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฅ, with a low of 21 degrees at 6am. Five degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around February 26th. Maximum wind chill around 15 at 12am; North wind 11 to 13 mph, with gusts as high as 23 mph. In 2022, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became mist by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 19 degrees. The record low of -20 occurred back in 1957.

I was looking at my paystub ๐ŸŽซ and I noticed that they are taking out more for deferred comp now that the federal limit has been raised. It’s good, in the sense that I’m saving more money for retirement though it also means that I have less for today, saving and investing. But it’s pre-tax, so it’s saving money living in a high tax state like this is good. Plus there are years of dividends and market growth ahead. But it still feels like I’m getting squeezed yet another way. ๐ŸŽ

Looking ahead, there are 4 weeks until Don’t Cry over Spilled Milk Day ๐Ÿฅ› when the sun will be setting at 5:23 pm with dusk at 5:50 pm. On that day in 2022, we had partly cloudy, snow showers and temperatures between 26 and 12 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 35 degrees. We hit a record high of 59 back in 1981.

Altamont Orchards

December 28, 2022 Morning

Good morning! Today is the 4:30 PM Sunset ๐ŸŒ† . Evenings are starting to get a bit longer. Of course the 5 pm sunset come later in January is when you really feel it. Those days will be upon us before you know it. Winters aren’t what they once were unless you live in Buffalo ๐Ÿƒ.

Cloudy and 23 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜ There is a south breeze at 6 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. There is a dusting of snow on the ground. โ˜ƒ Things will start to thaw out at around 11 am. ๐ŸŒก๏ธ

After a fairly dark and gray start to the morning, a bit of a fiery sunrise ๐ŸŒ… to start out the day. Since Saturday I’ve been exceeding my steps ๐Ÿ‘ฃ goal every day after a previous week that wasn’t so good. 16,500 steps yesterday or about eight miles. My boots ๐Ÿ‘ข though are in terrible shape at this point. Been debating what to get, thinking about getting boots with higher ankle protection especially with the risk of ankle injuries higher in the winter with the ice. Not sure, those boots are more expensive than I wanted to spend.

Town finally got salt on the sidewalks on the icy patches. โ„ I think the town parks department maintains the sidewalks and they don’t work holidays or weekends. So they were slick for a few days where there was snow melt with the cold.

Today will be mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฅ, with a high of 39 degrees at 2pm. Four degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around December 14th. South wind 6 to 10 mph. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. The high last year was 46 degrees. The record high of 61 was set in 1982. 7.0 inches of snow fell back in 1967.โ„

I am totally in love with Governor Kristi Noem and her flame thrower. ๐Ÿ”ฅ I guess she’s my hero because she burns her trash, and smells a little like cow shit. ๐Ÿ„ I mean, she is from South Dakota and runs her family ranch. Kind of like Sonne Farms, a Youtube channel I often watch which both of those things are the case. Flame throwers are popular with conservatives these days, I’m sure some crazy will burn down a building and all the left-wingers will be clamoring to ban them, as they are fun, and liberals hate fun unless it’s having sex with strangers. ๐Ÿšฏ Mostly because conservatives like them, as a fun way to burn wet household garbage. ๐Ÿ—‘ I’ve thought of getting a propane weed burner, their little brother, for starting campfires and other hard-to-burn debris but they are a bit expensive, not nearly as a cool, and it seems like just another thing to own. Maybe when I own my own land and have more crap to burn. ๐Ÿ’ธ No income tax in South Dakota, cheap and often good ag and forest land, the Black Hills. โ›ฐ

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 11:58 am with sun having an altitude of 24.1ยฐ from the due south horizon (-46.7ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 13.4 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 3:44 pm with the sun in the southwest (231ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-southwest (239ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 4:30 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 25 seconds with dusk around 5:01 pm, which is 43 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the First Quarter ๐ŸŒ“ Moon in the south (181ยฐ) at an altitude of 40ยฐ from the horizon, 230,448 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 5:37 pm. At sunset, look for partly cloudy skies ๐ŸŒƒ and temperatures around 36 degrees. There will be a south-southeast breeze at 7 mph. Tomorrow will have 9 hours and 8 minutes of daytime, an increase of 32 seconds over today.

I did not get to the store yesterday or wash my truck. ๐Ÿ›ป It was surprisingly cold last night and I decided I was really tired from my first full day back at work after 10 days off. I need to get the salt off it, and I need to get a few supplies, so maybe tonight will be the day. I am pretty sure today I will do it — it’s bit warmer, and I need groceries. Plus I need to return cans. โ™ป Need my nickles back, my truck free of empties, plus get gas โ›ฝ before prices go up next week with the gas tax holiday ending.
