Probably if Vermont rifle wasn’t opening tomorrow I’d probably head out to the Green Mountains for a long weekend ๐ŸฆŒ

But truth be told, I need a break from traveling and this weekend is going to be rather chilly especially in the Green Mountains. My credit card and truck need a break and I really need some home time to clean, put away gear and not be go go go. Weather wise past today will be bright and sunny but cold, and otherwise I would have taken Monday off. I kind of wish I had put off the Madison County trip another week but at this point I’m thinking of an Adirondacks trip for Black Friday extended through the Monday thereafter and maybe a trip running from the first day of winter Thursday December 21st through Christmas Eve on the 24th weather dependent.

Good morning on this Veterans Day Observed! ๐Ÿช–๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ๐ŸŽ–๏ธโš”๏ธMostly cloudy and 40 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜ There is a south-southwest breeze at 6 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. Kind of a dark morning. Temperatures will drop below freezing at tomorrow around 10 pm. โ˜ƒ๏ธ

Up at 5 AM today like usual for breakfast, ๐Ÿฅ˜ which was the usual pan of eggs and the fixings. I should do pancakes again soon but I’ve not really been into sweet lately for breakfast. I’ll eat plenty of fruit through the day so I’m not worried on that. ๐Ÿ I actually fried up some apples, bananas and cinnamon with honey last night. I am still so in love with the high temperature avocado oil ๐Ÿฅ‘ which you can use a ton of heat with without risking the oil burning or starting to break down. 500 degree flash point is probably hotter then  my stove burner can get.

Rather then do a morning walk today, I am thinking of going out for a bike ride to Voorheesville. ๐Ÿšฒ Not going to be a real nice day, lot of clouds. But I want to get some exercise, and then maybe go down to the library to work on some various projects. ๐Ÿ“š I do need to be careful how much riding I do today as my carpal tunnel I think I’m developing in my hands ๐Ÿ™Œ is bothering me as I have very little feeling in my pinky finger this morning. ๐Ÿงค I really do need to think about getting riding gloves. Going to get dark fairly early, as it’s a cloudy day โ˜๏ธ and it’s November. I guess I’m not missing much by staying in town this weekend.

Today will be mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฅ, with a high of 52 degrees at 3pm. Typical for today. Southwest wind 6 to 13 mph becoming west in the afternoon. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. The high last year was 65 degrees. The record high of 72 was set in 1931. 3.2 inches of snow fell back in 1987.โ„

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 11:40 am with sun having an altitude of 30.3° from the due south horizon (-40.5° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 10.3 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 3:58 pm with the sun in the west-southwest (240°). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-southwest (247°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 4:39 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 9 seconds with dusk around 5:08 pm, which is one minute and 4 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 5:43 pm. At sunset, look for partly clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 50 degrees. There will be a west-northwest breeze at 8 mph. Tomorrow will have 9 hours and 58 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 2 minutes and 18 seconds over today.

Today I want to get get the storm windows ๐ŸชŸ back in on my apartment, use some insulating tape to fix any air leaks around the door and also get out my electric blanket. Not expecting real cold weather this week but those days are going to be here before you know it and at some point I’ll want to turn the heat back on.  Then do a bunch of cleaning around, especially in the bathroom. ๐Ÿšฝ It seems like my toilet gets a lot dirtier quicker with all that fiber I’m eating ๐Ÿฅฆ with my healthy eating habits.

Tonight will be partly cloudy ๐ŸŒƒ , with a low of 36 degrees at 5am. Three degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around November 2nd. Northwest wind around 6 mph becoming southwest in the evening. In 2022, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 48 degrees. The record low of 15 occurred back in 1956.

I am thinking soup this evening. Maybe with chicken ๐Ÿ” or tuna fish, ๐Ÿ   I have cans of both. Plus then I can use up the fresh broccoli and spinach in my fridge before it goes bad, along with with the carrots I have, some pasta, and then start digging into some of the frozen vegetables. Plus obviously some diced onions and who knows what else. ๐Ÿฒ It’s a great way to warm up at the end of day, and it uses up a lot in the fridge. I’m thinking about going shopping tomorrow, though I’m trying to cut expenses over the next few day. ๐Ÿ’ธ

Veterans Day will be mostly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 46 degrees at 1pm. Five degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around November 23rd. Northwest wind around 11 mph. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. The high last year was 69 degrees. The record high of 70 was set in 2002. 3.0 inches of snow fell back in 1906.โ„

Looking ahead to Sunday, sunny with a high near 43. โ˜€ Kind of a chilly day. It would have been cold in Vermont — only talking 32 degrees. But it’s fine, I don’t want to be up there during hunting season, interfering with people looking for their deer. ๐ŸฆŒ Typical average high for the weekend is 51 degrees.

Looking ahead, there are 2 weeks until Buy Nothing Day ๐Ÿ›๏ธ when the sun will be setting at 4:27 pm with dusk at 4:57 pm. On that day in 2022, we had partly sunny and temperatures between 49 and 24 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 46 degrees. We hit a record high of 70 back in 2014.

Carrot ๐Ÿฅ• pancakes ๐Ÿฅž are good way to start a morning

Last night it was Johnny Cakes with onions and spinach and a bunch of Ms Dash salt-free seasonings, this morning its carrot pancakes with cherries and maple syrup. Salt is bad news, I am trying to stay away from it more these days.

Good morning! What day is it? Jumping the Hump Day, of course. Mostly sunny โ˜€ and 32 degrees in Delmar, NY. Calm wind. Cold start to the morning but it’s not expected to last.

While it got cool last night and I had to close my windows ๐Ÿ˜ด which made sleeping a bit hard but they’re back open this morning. Should be a beautiful day for riding to work today ๐Ÿšฒ and it shouldn’t be as dang windy as yesterday. ๐ŸŒฌ๏ธ That wind was pushing hard against my face yesterday riding out of the gorge especially when I reached the level in Elsmere.

Today will be sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 68 degrees at 4pm. 24 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around May 4th. Calm wind becoming south 5 to 7 mph in the afternoon. A year ago, we had light rain. The high last year was 43 degrees. The record high of 70 was set in 2012. 22.0 inches of snow fell back in 1993.โ„

I do like my carrot pancakes ๐Ÿฅž. Carrots are healthy and relatively cheap. It’s hard to get enough fiber in your diet, especially in America these days. Carrots when cooked are slightly sweet and excellent filler as part of hardy but soft pancakes. ๐Ÿฅ• I grind oatmeal and then carrots in my food processor. Add one egg and milk. Add Baking powder. Add cinnamon, ginger and sometimes vanilla. ๐Ÿ˜‹ For sweetness I’ll sometimes add a whole orange, peel and all or a banana. Then a little bit of whole red wheat flour and some water to smooth out the mixture. Top with fruit, honey or real maple syrup. ๐Ÿฏ

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 1:06 pm with sun having an altitude of 44.7° from the due south horizon (-26.1° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 6.1 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 6:23 pm with the sun in the west (261°). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west (267°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 7:00 pm after setting for 2 minutes and 54 seconds with dusk around 7:27 pm, which is one minute and 11 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the Waxing Crescent ๐ŸŒ’ Moon in the west-southwest (255°) at an altitude of 40° from the horizon, 230,863 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 8:01 pm. At sunset, look for partly clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 63 degrees. There will be a south breeze at 5 mph. Tomorrow will have 11 hours and 56 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 55 seconds over today.

I have my dental cleaning on Friday ๐Ÿชฅ๐Ÿฆท so I’ll probably end up driving to work that day. If it wasn’t like most of the roads are closed and possibly snow covered I’d consider going to the Green Mountains to camp after work. โ›บ I really could use a good fire ๐Ÿ”ฅ to burn up some paper and things and to clear my mind. If I stay in town I’m thinking of cruising some roads in Coeymans and New Baltimore looking at land. ๐Ÿž Some places down there might fit what I’m looking for based on my geospatial analysis.

Tonight will be partly cloudy ๐ŸŒƒ , with a low of 40 degrees at 6am. 15 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around April 22nd. South wind 3 to 5 mph. In 2023, we had light rain in the evening, which became light snow by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 32 degrees. The record low of -6 occurred back in 1948.

I am thinking about bringing my laptop home tonight ๐Ÿ‘จ‍๐Ÿ’ป so I can continue to do some more research about land and property. That said, it’s going to be such a nice evening, I almost want to go to the park instead. ๐Ÿž Maybe tomorrow I’ll bring it home. I don’t like to ride too much with my laptop on my bicycle due to the bumps, but I could bring it home tomorrow, work down at the library ๐Ÿ“š and then I’m driving in on Friday it seems most likely after my dental cleaning.

Today in 1991, the Justice Department announces that Exxon has agreed to pay $1 billion for the clean-up of the Exxon Valdez oil spill in Alaska. ๐Ÿ›ข Dawn dish soap made out well by donating some surfactants to clean off the oil soaked ducks ๐Ÿฆ†.

Looks like a fairly nice spring weekend though showers come Sunday. ๐ŸŒฆ๏ธSaturday, partly sunny, with a high near 53. Sunday, showers likely after 8am. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 54. Chance of precipitation is 60%. Typical average high for the weekend is 45 degrees. Maybe I’ll head out of town but I’m more thinking ๐Ÿ’ญ about it for the Easter Holiday. ๐Ÿฐ

Looking ahead, there are 4 weeks until 8 PM Dusk ๐ŸŒ† when the sun will be setting at 7:33 pm. On that day in 2023, we had sunny skies and temperatures between 67 and 30 degrees. Kind of like today. Typically, the high temperature is 57 degrees. We hit a record high of 86 back in 1922. Before my time. But certainly the weather records for this time of year is littered with examples of temperatures in the upper 80s.

Nice early spring day

As the protests chanted, “Nobody Died When the Weatherman Lied” ๐ŸŒซ๏ธ โœŠโ˜น๏ธ

Yesterday was not nearly as nice as the weatherman had argued it should have been. At times it was downright chilly outside. But it was a nice afternoon to spend out in country over at old friend’s homestead picking his brain on how he financed and put together his 10-acres of land with a beautiful farm house and barn from the 1820s. It was chilly and cloudy, as today also will be, but not so cold. I left the windows open last night, after I the smoke alarm went off again, but I’m hopeful to keep the windows open for most of the rest of the summer at this point. Only a few more weeks that there is a good chance of freezing weather.

Good morning! Monday’s come back around again. ๐Ÿ™€ Mostly cloudy and 41 degrees in the land of the Delmartian, as I get ready to ride to work. โ˜ Calm wind. Temperatures will drop below freezing at Friday around 4 am. โ˜ƒ๏ธ

Well maybe not a beautiful day today, โ˜๏ธ it should be good for riding to and from work. I want to bring my new artwork into the office ๐Ÿ–ผ๏ธ but I’ll wait until a rainy day later in the week when I either take the bus or drive in. ๐Ÿš˜ I realized I need some more eggs ๐Ÿฅš and I should get some kind of candle warmer plate. I couldn’t find it in Walmart the other day but looking online, they have them in-store for $10 but I didn’t know the aisle. ๐Ÿ•ฏ Yes, the use electricity, but they don’t charge me for that at work, lol. Working above a printing plant sometimes smells like sulfur. ๐Ÿ‘ƒ You know, like Ticonderoga or Plattsburgh.  Same thing for the brighter 200-watt light bulb I got for my desk, ๐Ÿ’ก though it’s an LED bulb so it only uses 27-watts and is replacing the 60-plus watts of hideous overhead florescent lighting. ๐Ÿ›‹ So far I haven’t been asked to give back the lamp, but I was looking at Walmart, and they have many attractive desk lamps for sale, as will garage sales and paces like the Salvation Army should I have to give back the seemingly forgotten lamp I found covered with dust in the closet.

Today will have patchy dense fog before 9am. ๐ŸŒซ Otherwise, mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฅ, with a high of 55 degrees at 1pm. 14 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around April 6th. Maximum dew point of 47 at 1pm. Light and variable wind becoming south 5 to 10 mph in the morning. A year ago, we had light snow in the morning with a few breaks of sun the afternoon. The high last year was 37 degrees. The record high of 59 was set in 1919. 8.3 inches of snow fell back in 1971.โ„

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:08 pm with sun having an altitude of 41.2° from the due south horizon (-29.7° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 6.9 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 5:12 pm with the sun in the west-southwest (256°). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west (263°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 5:50 pm after setting for 2 minutes and 55 seconds with dusk around 6:17 pm, which is one minute and 13 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 6:50 pm. At sunset, look for mostly cloudy skies โ˜ and temperatures around 54 degrees. The dew point will be 47 degrees. There will be a south-southeast breeze at 10 mph. Today will have 11 hours and 27 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 52 seconds over yesterday.

I plan to start my deep dive into the land ๐Ÿค  today, and am going to try to write some code to analyze parcels based on steepness of slope and direction of slope. Both of those have significant impacts on the ability to build and homestead on the land, plus I want to make sure if I do build a house ๐Ÿ‘ท that it’s built in a place that is resistant to excessive rainfall, that is certain to happen with the warming climate. ๐ŸŒ๏ธ Also want to take a deep dive into CAD, and try to get to place were I can at least sketch out a house plan. Really want to go simple and low resource when I build, not so much as a cost measure but for sustainability and simplicity purposes — I want to spend the money up front and then have minimal out-year costs for maintenance and repair. That said, despite being conditionally approved for an excessively large mortgage to buy a conventional house, I am increasingly thinking about buying with cash ๐Ÿ’ต and knowing my land and house is paid off and cheap to operate. Utility bills and repairs on my house scares me the most about it, more then the up-front cost. Plus I just hate how everything is plastic now. ๐Ÿ”ฅ Have you ever burned plastic? Shit stinks and burns so black, especially some of common materials used these days.

Tonight will have a chance of rain after 5am. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 42 degrees at 5am. 19 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around April 27th. Southeast wind 8 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. In 2023, we had light snow in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 33 degrees. The record low of -12 occurred back in 1948.

I really enjoyed meeting up with that friend of twenty years ago ๐Ÿ˜ and learning more about how he obtained his homestead. It’s a ways out from the city, but it is a wonderful 10 acres and an beautiful old 1820s house. I really miss being out in the country, in the hilltowns. โ›ฐ Since I got my big jacked up truck, and well the burn ban, I don’t cruise the backroads like I once did. ๐Ÿ”ฅ He built quite the life for himself and his family. While I am still stuck, for now, in the suburbs in my dumpy apartment. Not that my dream off-grid cabin is what many people would call high-class living, but I won’t be paying rent and I’ll be able to do my thing, have fires, listen to the frogs on a warm summer night. ๐Ÿธ And see the mountains every day driving to and from work.

Today in 1985, Food and Drug Administration approves a blood test for AIDS infection, used since then for screening all blood donations in the United States. ๐Ÿฉธ In 1917, Jeannette Rankin of Montana becomes the first female member of the United States House of Representatives. ๐Ÿ›๏ธ Pretty remarkable that was only about 100 years ago. And in 1957, S&P 500 stock market index is introduced, replacing the S&P 90. ๐Ÿ“ˆ The market opened at a ceremonial $17.75 and at this point is well over 1,000.

Not a particularly nice weekend on tap. ๐Ÿ˜ž Saturday, a chance of rain. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 46. Chance of precipitation is 40%. Sunday, rain likely. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 44. Chance of precipitation is 60%. The likelihood of camping this weekend seems fairly low. Maybe another good weekend to red and study about buying land, and continue my research. Typical average high for the weekend is 43 degrees.

Looking ahead, there are 4 weeks until April Fools Day ๐Ÿคก when the sun will be setting at 7:23 pm with dusk at 7:50 pm (Daylight Savings Time). On that day in 2023, we had rain and temperatures between 74 and 41 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 52 degrees. We hit a record high of 77 back in 1986.

Under a cloud

It’s like late April in February ๐ŸŒท

Maybe no tulips yet but it’s going to be a real nice one – I’ve seen daffodils starting to spring up and probably in warmer more sheltered parts of the woods coltfoot can be found. I’m sure we’ll still have cold blasts like on Thursday but it gets harder and harder for extended cold come March.

Good morning! Happy Tuesday. Starting out cold but will warm up quickly. Partly sunny and 37 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜€ Calm wind.

Definitely riding to work today, ๐Ÿšฒ leaving early so I can possibly ride up via the upper Menands ramp to extend the ride on this beautiful morning. ๐ŸŒ… Plus I always have a stack of work to do over at Data Services, as the data keeps pouring in. ๐Ÿ–ฅ Don’t get me wrong, I love ๐Ÿ˜ the work but it’s non stop. Data is dirty, it needs processing, manually and programmatically, has to be synced to the databases and user ๐Ÿ‘ค permissions updated. The work never stops in the world of data. ๐Ÿ”ข I’m becoming such a pro with unix textutils – awk, sed, tr, grep and cut are my go to tools โš™.

Today will have a chance of showers, mainly after 5pm. Mostly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 63 degrees at 3pm. 24 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around April 22nd. I’ll take late April weather in February. Already opened a bunch of windows to let the smoke from cooking ๐Ÿณ and steam from showering out. ๐ŸŒฌ๏ธ Going to be windy, and you got to wonder about red flag ๐Ÿšฉ conditions although there is snow in the mountains โ›ฐ remaining for now. Light south wind increasing to 13 to 18 mph in the morning. Winds could gust as high as 30 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning with a few breaks of sun the afternoon. The high last year was 35 degrees. The record high of 61 was set in 1997. 3.6 inches of snow fell back in 2019.โ„

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:09 pm with sun having an altitude of 38.9ยฐ from the due south horizon (-31.9ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 7.4 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 5:04 pm with the sun in the west-southwest (253ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west (259ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 5:42 pm after setting for 2 minutes and 57 seconds with dusk around 6:10 pm, which is one minute and 15 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 6:43 pm. At sunset, look for rain ๐ŸŒง and temperatures around 60 degrees. Breezy, 16 mph breeze โ›… from the south with gusts up to 28mph. Today will have 11 hours and 10 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 50 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will have showers. ๐ŸŒง Low of 51 degrees at 7pm. 30 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around May 24th. Maximum dew point of 50 at 6am. ๐Ÿ–๏ธ South wind 14 to 16 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. Leave the windows open? In 2023, we had cloudy skies in the evening, which became light snow by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 26 degrees. The record low of -10 occurred back in 1950.

Right now, a split verdict on the weekend. ๐Ÿ˜• Saturday, mostly cloudy, with a high near 51. Sunday, partly sunny, with a high near 57. Typical average high for the weekend is 40 degrees. Still looks great for camping ๐Ÿ• but I got to be careful with fire.

Looking ahead, there are 3 weeks until Last Day of Winter ๐Ÿ‚ when the sun will be setting at 7:08 pm with dusk at 7:35 pm (Daylight Savings Time). On that day in 2023, we had partly sunny, snow showers and temperatures between 33 and 22 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 46 degrees. We hit a record high of 78 back in 2012.

Connected Farms

Decided to head out for a night of winter camping ๐Ÿ•

It’s such a glistening and beautiful winter day here at the State Forest. I wish I had cross country skis after mine got worn out, snapped, then chopped up burnt last winter. So much fiberglass in those skis, and they held up for 20 years, but like all things, they don’t last forever.

Good afternoon! Partly cloudy and 26 degrees at the Rensselaerville State Forest. โ›… There is a north breeze at 10 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The trees are still covered with snow and there is something we haven’t seen in a long time — blue skies. There is a 6 inches of snow on the ground. โ˜ƒ ๏ธThings will start to thaw out at Wednesday around 1 pm. ๐ŸŒก๏ธ

It is remarkably beautiful out today. ๐Ÿ˜€ Cold but beautiful. Yet that’s to be expected camping in the winter up in the mountains. The good news is the road is nice and solid this time for camping, so not playing in the mud or getting wet. The snow is frozen fairly solid, but also is light in fluffy. If I had skis, this would be almost ideal weather for skiing. ๐Ÿšฒ After lunch and finishing setting up camp ๐Ÿ• and gathering firewood ๐Ÿชต I plan to ride some of CCC Road and maybe go down to the OSI Parcel ๐Ÿ“ธ to look at the snow covered mountains. Then come back to camp and have a good fire. ๐Ÿ”ฅ

This afternoon will be mostly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 29 degrees at 2pm. Four degrees below normal. North wind around 11 mph. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 33 degrees. The record high of 57 was set in 2016. 6.1 inches of snow fell back in 2004.โ„

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:11 pm with sun having an altitude of 30.8° from the due south horizon (-40.1° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 10 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 4:31 pm with the sun in the west-southwest (241°). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-southwest (248°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 5:13 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 8 seconds with dusk around 5:42 pm, which is one minute and 18 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 6:16 pm. At sunset, look for mostly clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 27 degrees. There will be a north-northwest breeze at 11 mph. Today will have 10 hours and 6 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 23 seconds over yesterday.

One thing that’s nice about this time of year ๐ŸŒ† is we are definitely picking up more daylight in the evening, which makes it not as long at camp. That’s good as the nights can drag on. Going to be fairly cold but not super cold by the campfire for tonight, and I will have a nice fire.

Tonight will be mostly clear ๐ŸŒƒ, with a low of 18 degrees at 4am. Three degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around February 15th. Maximum wind chill around 9 at 1am; Northwest wind 8 to 13 mph. In 2023, we had cloudy skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 13 degrees. The record low of -13 occurred back in 1978.

Looking ahead to next weekend, the following Saturday is Clean Your Computer Day ๐Ÿงน when the sun will be setting at 5:23 pm with dusk at 5:50 pm. On that day in 2023, we had mostly cloudy, mild, rain showers and temperatures between 51 and 34 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 35 degrees. We hit a record high of 53 back in 1955.

Gathering Clouds

State of the State Day ๐Ÿซ

I wonder if this means any new swimming pools will open up at State Parks near where I like to explore. More like shouting protestors and State Troopers swarming the Capitol complex. I kind of wish at this point I was moved to the new office to avoid all the craziness. But summer time at State Parks is on my mind, not the ice fog of today.

Good morning! Happy State of the State Day. ๐Ÿซ For me that just means avoid the Concourse and Capitol like the plague or risk crowds of people yelling you, probably about the Isreal and Palestine conflict which is on the other side of the world and I have nothing to do about. Ice fog from the snow and 20 degrees in Delmar. ๐ŸŒซ Calm wind. There are 5 inches of snow on the ground. โ˜ƒ ๏ธThings will start to thaw out at around noontime. ๐ŸŒก๏ธThen rain tonight.

Ironing my shirt and pants ๐Ÿ•ด๐Ÿปgetting ready for another session day. Drinking coffee โ˜• and enjoying the very good pancakes ๐Ÿฅž I made topped with frozen wild Maine blueberries ๐Ÿซ, Greek yogurt and pure maple ๐Ÿ syrup. Very tasty, I used more whole wheat flour ๐ŸŒพ then oats in the mix with an egg, some milk, water and baking powder for fluffiness. I’m just now waiting for the inevitable blood sugar crash๐Ÿ˜”. Been a bit heavy on the carbs lately so I skipped making bread for now. ๐Ÿž Maybe knead more tonight. I took salmon ๐ŸŸ out of the freezer for cooking tonight after work.

Today will have a chance of snow between noon and 3pm, then rain and snow. ๐ŸŒง High of 35 degrees at 3pm. Three degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around February 14th. Light southeast wind increasing to 11 to 16 mph in the morning. Chance of precipitation is 80%. Total daytime snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning with a few breaks of sun the afternoon. The high last year was 36 degrees. The record high of 62 was set in 2008. 9.9 inches of snow fell back in 1953.โ„

I like my early morning bike ride ๐Ÿšฒ and will head out at 6:45 again after it’s no longer pitch black. ๐Ÿฎ I like seeing the cows and the mountains along Meads Road. It’s a good ride with the hills on Orchard Street, and while they were a bit icy yesterday, there was enough sand on them that I could maintain traction with my bike. ๐ŸŒจ Not sure if tomorrow I’ll be able to ride to work, it’s not a session day but it depends on when the rain โ˜” stops and how much snow is left on the rail trail. I guess I could take in city streets. ๐Ÿš˜ Going to certainly be mild by tomorrow morning but windy.
