The Gut

The Gut

The federal government didn't have much good to be said about the D4/D5 redlined neighborhood known as the "The Gut" of Albany in 1930s.

This area deserves to be classified  as a slum neighborhood. Many former two family houses are now used for  three families by use of the basement as a separate unit.

Favorable Influences: All city facilities and adjacence to center of city and industry.

Detrimental Influences: Age  and obsolescence. Close to railroad and Hudson River- cellars are  flooded with high water. Green Street is known as the "Red Light"  district."

It’s all ducking plastic ๐Ÿฅ

Some mornings I wake to the smell of pollution from the plastics plant in Fuera Bush. This morning I woke up early thinking about the Green Building book which seemed to be more concerned about building McMansion’s with green features, and things like closets and how many outlets you need for your smart television. I don’t want a television, I don’t care about schools or how many bedrooms. I just want a cozy little cabin with a lot of land.

Good morning! What day is it? Hump Day, of course. Cloudy and 43 degrees in Delmar. โ˜ Calm wind. Totally inappropriate but I have my windows wide open in my apartment. But I like the fresh air, and I’ve become increasingly feral after all these years wearing the suit and playing director for eight hours a day, with a dour but easy going nature it so I tell myself. As long as shit gets done and I don’t get a call from Capitol Hill, I’m good. will drop below freezing at Friday around 4 am. โ˜ƒ๏ธ I guess at that point I’ll have to close my windows for a few days.

Woke up at 4:30 AM or so this morning and couldn’t get back to bed, ๐Ÿ›Œ so I started cooking down the 15-bean soup on the stove and a little after 5 AM got making some bananas and oatmeal, ๐ŸŒ then some pancakes with mango and honey. ๐Ÿฅž๐Ÿ๐Ÿฏ  Good stuff, the egg in the homemade pancake mix added some protein, and with the oats and wholewheat flour plus mango lots of fiber. Maybe not as much as Johnnycakes with spinach but still pretty good. ๐Ÿฅฆ

I get a chuckle when they send a 115 person articulated bus with seats for 59 out to Voorheesville, ๐Ÿš but this morning it was remarkably full at 7 am. Probably standees wouldn’t be appropriate on a rural / suburban route and they needed to get the bus downtown at any rate for the next run. ๐Ÿคท‍โ™‚๏ธ I do wish I could have ridden my bike to work ๐Ÿšฒ as the time on the bus seems like such a time suck. Better use of my time though then driving. ๐Ÿš˜ Those days will be here before you know it, but hopefully by then I’ll have a fuel-efficient easy to drive vehicle.

As it’s going to be raining by evening ๐ŸŒง๏ธ I’m walking the Plaza. ๐Ÿšถ I don’t do as much walking as I used to do being that most days I ride to work. ๐Ÿšฒ I mean I thought about doing the Meads Lane loop on my bike this morning but it’s kind of misting and foggy out. So I’m busing it and taking the shuttle ๐Ÿš€ out to the suburban office. I heard the normal shuttle got in a wreck so it’s been a state pool car lately. I don’t mind, as long as we can all squeeze in and I can get to work. Worse comes to worse, I can hop on the CDTA Route 22, though that’s another bus fare. It seems so petty when I’m planning to buy land and build a house, but every little bit helps. That’s how I got as far as I got.

Today will rain likely, mainly after 5pm. Patchy fog between 9am and 10am. Otherwise, cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a high of 55 degrees at 3pm. 13 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around April 6th. Maximum dew point of 49 at 2pm. South wind 3 to 6 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. The high last year was 44 degrees. The record high of 63 was set in 1974. 10.5 inches of snow fell back in 1887.โ„

At times I get so fustrated looking at land, ๐Ÿšœ though I shoudn’t be as there are definitely options out there. The one I looked at yesterday, after studying the LIDAR and running the stats is really too sloped to build on. Another one has a nice price, but I’m not convinced it’s an all-season road, despite what the seller says, and there is other parcels proposed to be sold nearby. ๐Ÿ” None of them is perfect, but I am developing a plan on what is important, learning what is out there, piece by piece. And I can’t fall too much in love with any one parcel, as it could disappear from the market before I’m ready to buy. โค๏ธ I do worry a bit about winter driving, but if it’s bad, I can always call in or work from home. โ„๏ธ People may be pushing me towards things I don’t care about, like plastic houses and good school districts, or marble counter tops and closet size, but I know what I want — that basic cabin that complies with town codes — but is simple to maintain and uses wood and solar energy produced on site,  and provides land for homesteading and having fires. ๐Ÿ ๐Ÿ”ฅ I get many people care about marble countertops and looking pretty, but that’s not on my list.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:08 pm with sun having an altitude of 41.9° from the due south horizon (-28.9° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 6.7 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 5:14 pm with the sun in the west-southwest (257°). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west (264°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 5:52 pm after setting for 2 minutes and 55 seconds with dusk around 6:19 pm, which is one minute and 12 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 6:53 pm. At sunset, look for rain ๐ŸŒง and temperatures around 53 degrees. The dew point will be 49 degrees. There will be a southeast breeze at 6 mph. Today will have 11 hours and 33 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 53 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will rain. ๐ŸŒง Low of 39 degrees at 5am. 16 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around April 20th. North wind 5 to 13 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New precipitation amounts between three quarters and one inch possible. In 2023, we had cloudy skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 27 degrees. The record low of -6 occurred back in 1950.

Today in 1857, Supreme Court of the United States rules in the Dred Scott v. Sandford case. ๐Ÿ‘ฉ‍โš–๏ธ Often said to be one of the worse decisions ever, conservatives cling to the idea that so-called bad liberal rulings like Row v Wade can be overturned by future courts. Honestly, I think the court should be getting the government off people’s backs, if anything overruling cases that limit liberty rather then expanding the police state by making it easier for the government to pass new laws. I don’t celebrate baby murder like some people do, but I also don’t think we should be in the business of ban everything.

Not going camping this weekend either. ๐Ÿ˜ž The sun ain’t going to shine anymore. At least on the weekends. Saturday, a chance of rain after 1pm. Cloudy, with a high near 47. Chance of precipitation is 40%. Sunday, rain likely before 1pm, then showers likely after 1pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 45. Chance of precipitation is 70%. Typical average high for the weekend is 43 degrees. Still at least it’s mild and not much of a fire risk.

Looking ahead, there are 5 weeks until 8 PM Dusk ๐ŸŒ† when the sun will be setting at 7:33 pm with dusk at 8:01 pm (Daylight Savings Time). On that day in 2023, we had sunny and temperatures between 67 and 30 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 57 degrees. We hit a record high of 86 back in 1922.

 Almost Sunset

Up after the teat strippers, lol ๐Ÿ„

Every morning I get the Morning Ag Clips newsletter delivered to my email box a little after 3 am. Who is up at that hour? Dairymen, nearly two hours before I wake up and get cooking and a jump on my day. After all, you gotta strip the teats before you milk the laddies so I can have cottage cheese with my eggs and milk in my coffee.

Good morning! What day is it? Hump Day, of course. Rain and 43 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜” There is a west-southwest breeze at 8 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. There are 3 inches of snow on the ground. โ˜ƒ ๏ธStill too much snow to ride the bike into work on the rail trail, but regardless it’s still raining. Temperatures will drop below freezing at tomorrow around 2 am. โ˜ƒ๏ธ

I slept in late until 5:10 AM this morning, which really is about ten minutes later but I don’t set an alarm clock โฐ  so I get up when I wake naturally. I was in bed by 9 PM last night ๐Ÿ›Œ so eight hours later is about 5 AM though I woke briefly at 3 AM when I heard the Morning Ag Clips come in but I didn’t read until I was up and out of bed, loading the oven with bread and taking the seeds out of the spaghetti squash, getting it ready to cook. A good nights sleep, despite the warnings of high wind and severe weather, all I heard was a bit of rain on the roof.

Woke up feeling a bit achy this morning from the rain, ๐Ÿ˜ซ but I got some onions, spinach, corn, peppers eggs frying ๐Ÿณ with a bunch of turmeric, red chili pepper, and salt. Then coffee with lots of ginger and cinnamon. โ˜• Feeling good now. Baked up some rye bread, with lots of dill weed and chopped red onions. I find for a good crispy crust, adding some baking soda helps. The red onions give it a dark, rich texture, almost like pumpernickel. Also cooked up a big pot of 15-bean Cajun soup, but then I added a bunch of corn, celery, carrots and spinach to beef up the soup. Will be good with the rye bread later. To keep the oven full, also made spaghetti squash. Using up a lot of stuff in my pantry but I’ll go shopping either Thursday or Friday night, or maybe early Saturday morning.

Today will have a chance of showers, mainly between 11am and 3pm. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฆ, with a high of 44 degrees at 12pm. 11 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around March 12th. I like mid March weather in January. Breezy, with a southwest wind 7 to 12 mph increasing to 16 to 21 mph in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 41 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. The high last year was 38 degrees. The record high of 55 was set in 2016. 7.3 inches of snow fell back in 1984.โ„

I wasn’t going to ride my bike to work, ๐Ÿšฒ until I decided to do just that. I will take Delaware Avenue in I guess, because I think there is still snow and ice on the rail trail โ„๏ธ though I’d much rather take the rail trail and avoid traffic. ๐Ÿš‚ When I switch to the office in North Albany — maybe next week — if the rail trail is closed, I will take Second Avenue. I think there is less traffic there, and less risk of getting doored, ๐Ÿ’ฅwhich scares me as much if not more then getting rear-ended on the bicycle. Riding on Delaware Avenue, it’s constant looking ahead and looking backwards, compared to the relatively easy to ride down the rail trail. ๐Ÿšต‍โ™€๏ธ Once I’m fully moved the suburban office, I will be able to take Albany County Rail Trail to Corning Preserve, almost entirely off the road, then it will be an easy ride up Erie Bouelvard, through the old Lumber District.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:03 pm with sun having an altitude of 25.4° from the due south horizon (-45.5° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 12.7 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 3:57 pm with the sun in the southwest (233°). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-southwest (240°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 4:41 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 21 seconds with dusk around 5:12 pm, which is one minute and 4 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 5:48 pm. At sunset, look for rain showers around ๐ŸŒง and temperatures around 40 degrees. Breezy, 21 mph breeze โ›… from the west-southwest with gusts up to 41mph. Today will have 9 hours and 19 minutes of daytime, an increase of one minute and 19 seconds over yesterday.

I was pleasantly surprised that the blueberry pancakes I made yesterday ๐Ÿฅž didn’t cause me to have a blood sugar spike that I was afraid it would. Maybe it was because the pancakes were whole-wheat flour and some milled oats and made myself without added sugar or even bananas. Maybe using pure maple syrup ๐Ÿ in moderation helped. I do love the sweetness of blueberries ๐Ÿ’™ but it can come with an hour or two down the clock feeling really hungry and even a bit dizzy. But I was reading that such blood sugar troughs aren’t that uncommon for many people, and isn’t a sign of anything more serious besides bad dietary choices. I was looking at my online health record, and two times I got my blood and urine tested, my blood sugar levels were in normal levels and I didn’t have any glucose in my urine. ๐Ÿฅค I did have slightly elevated bile in my urine, a sign of some kidney damage probably back when I was more overweight, but I was barely outside of normal level, ๐Ÿ‘ฉ‍โš•๏ธ nothing my doctor said I should be concerned about. I am super paranoid about diabetes these days, as I watch and it slowly saps the life away from my parents who are growing older. And I don’t like needles. ๐Ÿ’‰

Tonight will be mostly cloudy โ˜๏ธ, with a low of 29 degrees at 4am. 13 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around March 24th. Breezy, with a southwest wind 14 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 38 mph. With that wind, I’ll probably need the heat again. โ™จ๏ธ  In 2023, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 19 degrees. The record low of -25 occurred back in 1968.

Last night was cold with the wind so I turned on both the gas heat down stairs and the space heater on as I was chilled through. ๐ŸŒง ๐ŸŒฌ It was absolutely pouring when I was waiting out for the bus, and when I got home things were cold and damp. Cooking in the oven the salmon ๐ŸŸ things warmed up, and then I kneaded up the bread ๐Ÿž. Also made some corn mush mixed with peanut butter powder which was pretty good. And then shredded and orange and had that with a warm glass of milk with cinnamon and ginger before bed. Eating good. Wish I had gotten more steps in yesterday, but I did do that seven mile ride in during the morning.

Still looks like the weekend starts out rainy, but then gets cold for the balance of the M.L. King weekend. ๐ŸŒฆ Saturday, rain, mainly before 1pm. High near 48. Breezy. Chance of precipitation is 80%. Sunday, partly sunny, with a high near 31. Breezy. M.L.King Day will be mostly cloudy, with a high near 31. Typical average high for the weekend is 33 degrees. I am not sure if it looks good for getting out of town, thinking it will be a swamp on Saturday and then frigid come Sunday. Maybe just one night. Things could change though.

One month ๐Ÿ“… from now will be Clean Your Computer Day ๐Ÿงน when the sun will be setting at 5:21 pm with dusk at 5:49 pm. The average high temperature is 33 degrees, with a record high of 55 in 2016. Now that’s depressing on the mercury front, but let’s be honest, not much beyond there, things start to warm up once again as we head into the second half of February. ๐ŸŒบ Spring will come eventually.

Setting Sun

Nostgolia on this Election Day 2023 โ˜•๐Ÿ™ˆ๐Ÿ—ณ๏ธ

This year I’m glad I’m not involved in any elections or doing anything political. Just sipping my coffee watching the sun rise remembering the days gone by but glad I’m not at all rushed this morning.

Good morning! Happy Election Day 2023. Partly cloudy โ›… and 51 degrees at the Stoney Pond State Forest. โ˜” There is a west-southwest breeze at 15 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 47 degrees. I can smell the manure somebody’s spreading this morning ๐Ÿ’ฉ it’s November in Madison County and the field work is soon to be done for the season. ๐Ÿšœ They might have snow as soon as midweek.

Turned out to be a much nicer morning then expected. โ˜• I knew it was going to be a great day when I awoke, saw the clear night skies ๐ŸŒœand the moon. Had a nice hardy breakfast of eggs ๐Ÿณ with lots of vegetables and onions ๐Ÿง… that I got at Aldi’a yesterday in Cazenovia. While yesterday was cold, damp and gray at times it was still a good day with lots of riding ๐Ÿšฒ and making the most of my day off. A lot has changed in this world over the past few years but mornings are still quite beautiful and the coffee is good.

Glad I’m not involved in any elections this year ๐Ÿ—ณ but there were many hard fought ones out of Bill Magees auction house ๐Ÿ—๏ธ ๐Ÿถ๐Ÿบjust down the road. Been half a decade now, I saw the bridge in Cazenovia they renamed after him. It was sad he lost five years ago, but during that general election cycle wasn’t my race. ๐Ÿง‘โ€๐ŸŒพ Truth is winning these rural districts is almost impossible with the democratic party becoming mostly an urban issues party with gun ๐Ÿ”ซ control one of their top priorities. I can understand why people vote the way they do nowadays out in the country. ๐Ÿšœ It’s not just Trump. Both parties have become more extreme but the Republicans have really locked up the rural areas nowadays. I have a feeling that Senator Joe Manchin of West Virginia and Senator John Tester of Montana are going to loose in 2024, especially if the GOP runs a stronger presidential candidate then felon Donald Trump. โณ Time moves on. Democrats though really have locked up the suburbs, especially the older ones and professional class. ๐Ÿ•ด๐Ÿป

Today will have showers likely, mainly between 10am and 1pm. Mostly cloudy, with a temperature falling to around 43 by 5pm. ๐ŸŒฆ๏ธ Breezy, with a west wind 15 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 32 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning with sunny skies in the afternoon. The high last year was 69 degrees. The record high of 75 was set in 1938. 4.5 inches of snow fell back in 1886.โ„

I’m not sure how long it will be nice, clouds are already pushing in. ๐ŸŒฅ I don’t want to deal with wet camping gear ๐Ÿ• so I’m slowly but surely taking things down. I don’t have solid plans for today but I think ๐Ÿค” I’ll just go for a walk ๐Ÿšถ around Stoney Pond then head home and get unpacked. ๐Ÿ‘ช Planning to go see my family this afternoon it’s been three 3โƒฃ weeks as I’ve been out of town ๐ŸŒฒ on various trips. Despite yesterday being cold and dreary especially midday it was a great trip.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 11:47 am with sun having an altitude of 30.9ยฐ from the due south horizon (-39.6ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 10 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 4:08 pm with the sun in the west-southwest (241ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-southwest (249ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 4:50 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 8 seconds with dusk around 5:18 pm, which is one minute and 10 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 5:53 pm. At sunset, look for rain ๐ŸŒง and temperatures around 44 degrees. Breezy, 20 mph breeze โ›… from the west-northwest with gusts up to 32mph. Today will have 10 hours and 6 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 2 minutes and 26 seconds over yesterday.

Yesterday I rode the South Trail from outside of Cazenovia to New Woodstock. ๐Ÿšต Nice ride though best on a mountain bike as some parts of the trail are a bit rough with roots and gravel. Pungent with the cow poop and water slurry ๐Ÿฎ ๐Ÿ’ฉ one of the dairies was applying to a nearby field but that’s to be expected this time of year.

Spent a little bit of time riding around New Woodstock yesterday after taking the South Trail from outside of Cazenovia to New Woodstock. ๐Ÿš‚ Neat little village with a Historical Museum just off the rail trail. They like in Cazenovia also have an old Black Diamond Caboose there. Cute little village.

Unfortunately my bike had developed a really annoying squeak on Sunday afternoon โš™๏ธ which I couldn’t figure out and started applying grease everywhere, including getting it all over my hands ๐Ÿ‘ and jeans ๐Ÿ‘– and started to drive me crazy thinking I might have a failing bearing or some problem that could leave me stranded. I thought it was just some stone dust from the Erie Canalway somewhere it shouldn’t be mixed with the grease. Kept stopping, applying grease trying to find the noise. ๐Ÿ”• Finally, I figured it out, it was the left pedal got some stone dust in it and squeaking. A little spray lubricant, knock off WD 40 on the pedal after my south trail ride ๐Ÿšฒ returned my sanity.

Swung by Critz Farms hoping to get apples ๐Ÿ but it looked like only the brewery was open ๐Ÿป and I wasn’t looking for a drink. So I went to Cazenovia Lake Park. Kind of cold gray afternoon but the geeese didn’t seem to mind the cool gray day on Cazenovia Lake. ๐Ÿฆ†

Then I went to the Lorenzo State Historic Site, never been there before. โ›ฒ Been by it a million times though. It was a Monday so all the buildings were shut up and no visitor services or as I needed a bathroom ๐Ÿšฝ but it was still nice to explore the grounds. Swung by the library ๐Ÿ“š in Cazenovia for a pee.

Then I Canastota – Cazenovia Trailway, it was starting to rain and was cold didn’t spend a lot of time, โ˜” wanted get back to camp and start cooking soup plus by then I needed another bathroom ๐Ÿšฝ break. Too much coffee โ˜• in the morning. ๐ŸŒ… Also didn’t feel like carrying my mountain bike over several steps to cross Bingley Road. Visited Aldi’s in Cazenovia ๐Ÿ ๐Ÿฅฆ, such a delightful shopping experience. ๐Ÿ›’ Low prices, simple selection quick in and out and the cashier lines without them bagging is so quick. โ˜บ

Got back to camp around 4 pm accidentally brushed a tree with one of my tires backing into the campsite โ›บ rushing having to pee but didn’t do any body damage to my truck ๐Ÿ›ป as the tires stick out beyond the body. Sun โ˜€ came out and ghe wind died down. Fried onions and mushrooms, boiled carrots, broccoli, spinach and whole wheat pasta, added some tuna fish ๐Ÿ  for an excellent dinner. Soup really warmed me up ๐Ÿฒ, I just wish I had some homemade bread ๐Ÿž to dip in it but I eat all of that the previous three days. Had a nice fire ๐Ÿ”ฅ didn’t rain until 7:30 pm so it was a good evening at which point I retired to bed ๐Ÿ› in my truck for the evening.

Tonight will have a chance of rain and snow showers before 11pm, then a slight chance of snow showers between 11pm and 1am, then a chance of flurries after 1am. Cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 26 degrees at 6am. Eight degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around December 3rd. Northwest wind 14 to 18 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Little or no snow accumulation expected. In 2022, we had clear skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 34 degrees. The record low of 18 occurred back in 1971.

Cool but fairly decent now for Veterans Day Weekend, especially come Saturday. โ˜€ Friday, clouds then clearing, high may reach 43. Saturday, mostly sunny, with a high near 37. Sunday, going to be sunny and 39. Typical average high for the weekend is 51 degrees. Probably will stay ๐Ÿก next weekend.

Looking ahead, next Tuesday is Average High is 50 ๐Ÿ‚ when the sun will be setting at 4:42 pm with dusk at 5:11 pm. On that day in 2022, we had partly sunny and temperatures between 42 and 27 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 50 degrees. We hit a record high of 70 back in 1973.

One Car

April 24, 2023 Morning

The changes of moonlight to sunlight ๐ŸŒ…

It’s actually a pretty damp morning and cloudy but I’m out walking and I do have the lyrics of that song reversed. But I’m going forward and that’s what is important.

Good morning! Monday’s come back around again. Cloudy and 42 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜ There is a northwest breeze at 10 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The skies will clear around 5 pm.

I’m moving forward on this Monday morning ๐Ÿšถ though I have no idea where the week will lead. But come Friday if I walk 5 miles each day it will be 100 days of walking at least 5 miles a day. ๐Ÿ’ฏ

Today will have a slight chance of showers after noon. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฆ, with a high of 55 degrees at 4pm. Eight degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around April 7th. Northwest wind 7 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning with a few breaks of sun the afternoon. The high last year was 72 degrees. The record high of 81 was set in 2001. 1.2 inches of snow fell back in 1967.โ„

Oatmeal ๐Ÿฅฃ this morning, then ironing my shirt and showering ๐Ÿšฟ and then the express bus ๐Ÿš downtown ๐Ÿข. Session is at 10 am for the extender and the redistricting lines, and I expect to be heading back home at five 5โƒฃ on the express. Have dinner. Then walk down to the park ๐Ÿž until dusk and try to get in 7-9 miles walked. And forward to Tuesday. Not sure how long of a week it will be with session.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:54 pm with sun having an altitude of 60.2ยฐ from the due south horizon (-10.6ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 3.4 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 7:09 pm with the sun in the west-northwest (282ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ

The sunset is in the west-northwest (289ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 7:47 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 3 seconds with dusk around 8:17 pm, which is one minute and 8 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the First Quarter ๐ŸŒ“ Moon in the west (266ยฐ) at an altitude of 48ยฐ from the horizon, 248,783 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 8:54 pm. At sunset, look for partly clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 52 degrees. There will be a west-northwest breeze at 6 mph. Today will have 13 hours and 50 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 38 seconds over yesterday.

The next step on the bicycle ๐Ÿšฒ rebuilding process is confirming the spoke length and studying up on the truing process. Then rebuilding the wheel. Once I think the wheel is good, I’ll put the gears back on, reassemble the tire, redo the chain and ultimately replace the missing derailer cable. And ride.

Tonight will be partly cloudy ๐ŸŒƒ, with a low of 36 degrees at 6am. Five degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around April 14th. Northwest wind around 6 mph. In 2022, we had partly cloudy skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 49 degrees. The record low of 23 occurred back in 1965.

Cloudy and cool for the weekend. ๐ŸŒฅ Saturday, mostly cloudy, with a high near 62. Maximum dew point of 40 at 8pm. Sunday, a chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 59. Chance of precipitation is 50%. Typical average high for the weekend is 66 degrees.

I was hoping for a nice weekend โ›บ so I could get out of town before the black flies ๐Ÿœ were out in mass but it seems unlikely based on the current forecast. Plus I saw the governor announced a budget extender through Friday so probably not using a get out of jail free card ๐Ÿ†“ for Thursday and Friday this week. Maybe next, if I go to the Adirondacks I’ll bring bring DEET and the screen tent ๐ŸŽช.

The long range looks cool ๐ŸŒบ for closing out the month and heading to May. But will El Nino on its way I’m sure it will be cool until it’s not. ๐Ÿ– Somehow I expect the second half of the month to be ungodly hot.

That said, next Monday is May ๐Ÿ•Š when the sun will be setting at 7:56 pm with dusk at 8:25 pm. On that day in 2022, we had mostly sunny and temperatures between 69 and 35 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 66 degrees. We hit a record high of 86 back in 2001.

Good morning! Happy Thursday. Mostly clear and 25 degrees ๐ŸŒƒ at the in Delmar, NY for morning walk. There is a northwest breeze at 10 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. There are 4 inches of snow on the ground. โ˜ƒ ๏ธThings will start to thaw out at around 10 am. ๐ŸŒก๏ธ

Out for the morning walk ๐Ÿšถ before sunrise at 6:25. But already it’s not super dark or cold. At least in the evening there was some light for the walk then. I didn’t get out walking last night until 7:15 pm because session dragged a little beyond 5 pm and I ended up catching the local home at 5:45. But there was still daylight. Cold โ„ day yesterday with the wind but already this morning is much nicer. Ton of black ice on the sidewalks this morning, caught myself a few times starting to fall. Last night wasn’t so bad.

Today will be mostly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 45 degrees at 5pm. Seems warm and nice. Just typical for today. West wind 7 to 9 mph. A year ago, we had cloudy skies in the morning with more sun in the afternoon. The high last year was 60 degrees. The record high of 82 was set in 1990. 13.4 inches of snow fell back in 1956.โ„

While there is quite a bit of snow around โ˜บ it should be a good day. Probably won’t be able to go to the park this evening but I’m hoping to get out walking ๐Ÿšถ in the daylight hours. Session day ๐Ÿ•ด๏ธbut a get away day so hopefully they’ll bang through the budget reso and I’ll be able to take the express home. Then a quick dinner – I have several options I’ve frozen over the past few weeks. ๐Ÿฒ I actually did a small bowl of pasta last night because I wanted to finish off the open container of pasta sauce that was getting old and I didn’t want to go bad.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 1:05 pm with sun having an altitude of 45.6ยฐ from the due south horizon (-25.2ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 5.9 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 6:26 pm with the sun in the west (262ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west (269ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 7:03 pm after setting for 2 minutes and 54 seconds with dusk around 7:30 pm, which is one minute and 10 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 8:04 pm. At sunset, look for partly cloudy skies ๐ŸŒƒ and temperatures around 41 degrees. There will be a west breeze at 6 mph. Tomorrow will have 12 hours and 2 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 54 seconds over today.

Tonight will be mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฅ, with a low of 32 degrees at 2am. Six degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around April 2nd. Northwest wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the evening. In 2022, we had partly cloudy skies in the evening, which became cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 43 degrees. The record low of -1 occurred back in 1916.

On the bus ride home I overheard somebody say one of my clients had passed ๐Ÿ‘ฅ, I was thinking not another one as I think half of my clients have come and gone over the years. He was one of the good ones not that I necessarily agree with his politics but he’s good for his district. The thing about it, it’s not true. ๐ŸคฅThe Republican who was talking had no idea what she was talking about. The buses ๐Ÿš are good place to hear rumors in Albany but not all of them are true. ๐Ÿ’ญ

Cool this weekend with temperatures running 9 degrees below normal but otherwise sunny. ๐Ÿ˜ƒ Saturday, mostly sunny, with a high near 41. West wind 10 to 13 mph. Sunday, partly sunny, with a high near 33. Breezy. Typical average high for the weekend is 46 degrees.

Looking Up Cole Hill

March 10, 2023 Morning

Good morning! Yeah, it’s Friday! As they say, one month from now will be mid April and at least in the city it probably be starting greening up a bit. ๐ŸŒฟ Hello black flies.

Partly sunny and 21 degrees for the morning walk in Delmar. ๐ŸŒ… Calm wind. A little bit cool but sunny which is nice for a change. But it’s not expected to last. ๏ธThings will start to thaw out at around 9 am. ๐ŸŒก๏ธThe sun is in my eyes ๐Ÿ‘€ for the walk today though that won’t be an issue next week with the time change.

Today will have a chance of rain, mainly after 5pm. Increasing clouds ๐ŸŒž ๐Ÿ‘‰ ๐ŸŒฅ , with a high of 42 degrees at 2pm. One degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around March 8th. The high last year was 44 degrees. The record high of 72 was set in 1977. 5.7 inches of snow fell back in 1964.โ„

Yesterday was a Thursday and it was a busy one with a big background on my desk so edit. ๐Ÿ“„ So time went by quickly. ๐ŸŒ๐ŸŽ I eat a lot of fruit and then came home and had a small bowl of pasta with lots of green beans. And saved lots of pasta for future use. ๐ŸFinished up my 10,000 steps minimum over 50 days though ultimately I believe I walked closer to 800,000 steps ๐Ÿ‘ฃ over that time period.

Last night I was been doing some research on Kriging and election mapping though I realized it’s a bit more difficult without having the voter file geocoded and the Census household survey data not released yet from the Census for block level data. ๐Ÿ–ฅ Plus I’m actually not sure how valuable the results are as election districts are pretty small to start out. It’s going to be even harder in coming years as they’ve reduced the number of election districts to 231 from 319 in 2023.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:07 pm with sun having an altitude of 43.2ยฐ from the due south horizon (-27.6ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 6.4 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 5:18 pm with the sun in the west (259ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ

Looking ahead, next Friday is St. Patrick’s Day ๐Ÿ€ when the sun will be setting at 7:05 pm with dusk at 7:31 pm (Daylight Savings Time). That’s why the Saint Patrick’s Day parade is on Saturday of this week. On that day in 2022, we had partly cloudy, mild, rain showers and temperatures between 55 and 43 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 45 degrees. We hit a record high of 75 back in 1990.

Decided to drive down to the Hudson River after work.
