Happy Tax Day πŸ€‘

Well we know who is going to be living high on the hog today. Not me, but the government certainly will be as $1,600 is transferred from my bank account to the state and feds. I think I did end up overpaying the state due to a mistake on my tax returns, but alas either state tax and finance will catch my mistake or I’ll file an amended return and get like $400 back. With high interest rates and lots of dividends, it was a good year last one, and I ended up making more then I expected so I didn’t deduct enough from my paycheck.

Good morning on this Tax Day! You know how I feel about that. Cranky, especially as I think each year we get a little less and less out of government while it cost more and more, as it eats up more and more resources and demands more growth. πŸ‰ Fog and 44 degrees in Delmar, NY. 🌫️ Calm wind. The skies will clear around 6 am.

Yeah, I do need to adjust my paycheck deductions upwards further πŸ’Έ I think this year and I do need to plan on making an appointment to meet with an CPA to decide better ways to manage my taxes going forward, especially if I’m thinking of potentially buying land 🚜 later this year to build a cabin πŸ›–, that is if I decide to stay in New York. Last night I was actually watching a movie on Kanopy — the free library app for watching documentaries — on a 30-year old that went and built a Tiny Home on wheels. It was an interesting video πŸ“ΊοΈ but really not for me. I like the idea of small but I would want something a little more permanent and long lasting, small but not tiny. Maybe modular or maybe stick built, with an actual foundation and complying with building codes for energy and fire safety. 🧯

Today will have patchy dense fog before 8am. Otherwise, partly sunny 🌞, with a high of 60 degrees at 5pm. One degree above normal, which is similar to a typical day around April 16th. Light northwest wind becoming west 11 to 16 mph in the afternoon. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 84 degrees. The record high of 86 was set in 2003. 2.4 inches of snow fell back in 2014.❄

Going to be decent enough to ride to work, πŸš΄β€β™‚οΈ get some exercise and save on the bus fare. I know I can ride into today and tomorrow, but the second half of the week looks a bit dicey with the forecast. 🌲There is a Save the Pine Bush meeting tonight at 6 PM via the Zoom, but I should be able to ride and be home before then. Might do the meeting while I’m cooking dinner.

Around 7 AM the fire alarm went off again πŸ§‘β€πŸš’ — first time that’s happened in a while which is surprising as I have most of my windows open but it’s pretty foggy and humid. I cleaned the smoke detector with canned air the other day which seemed to help somewhat. At least it hasn’t been going off at night. I made sure to open the remainder of the windows in my apartment and it should be good with plenty of fresh air once the fog burns off and things warm up.

Solar noon 🌞 is at 12:56 pm with sun having an altitude of 57.4Β° from the due south horizon (-13.5Β° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 3.8 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour πŸ… starts at 7:00 pm with the sun in the west (278Β°). πŸ“Έ The sunset is in the west-northwest (285Β°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 7:38 pm after setting for 2 minutes and 59 seconds with dusk around 8:07 pm, which is one minute and 8 seconds later than yesterday. πŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the First Quarter πŸŒ“ Moon in the south-southwest (211Β°) at an altitude of 71Β° from the horizon, 245,994 miles away. πŸš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 8:43 pm. Tomorrow will have 13 hours and 30 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 46 seconds over today.

Still having issues with my phone screen acting up. πŸ“² At some point I really do need to get a new phone and my boots have holes in them πŸ₯Ύ but with inflation you know you gotta cut corners wherever you can.

Tonight will be mostly clear πŸŒƒ, with a low of 39 degrees at 6am. Two degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around April 20th. Northwest wind 5 to 10 mph becoming light west. In 2023, we had partly cloudy skies. It got down to 57 degrees. The record low of 22 occurred back in 1981.

I’d like to get out of town this weekend πŸ•οΈ but it all comes down to the weather and whether or not not the state budget is done. Looks cool and maybe cloudy to start the way. Maybe take a three-day weekend if the state budget is done. Saturday, a chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 55. Chance of precipitation is 40%. Sunday, partly sunny, with a high near 52. Monday, mostly sunny, with a high near 59. That’s actually kind of cold for the second half of April, at least by historic standards. Typical average high for the weekend is 62 degrees.

As previously noted, next Monday is Earth Day 🌎 when the sun will be setting at 7:47 pm with dusk at 8:15 pm. On that day in 2023, we had rain showers and temperatures between 68 and 53 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 63 degrees. We hit a record high of 86 back in 1985.

That rye bread I made this morning was pretty good πŸ₯–

Mom picked me up some rye flower and dill weed and adding some wheat flour, yeast, water, salt and some vital wheat gluten made some good bread. Wish I had more rise though, I could try more yeast next time or a higher portion of vital wheat gluten and less wheat flour. Wheat flour is difficult as it is very low in gluten and is heavy with all that healthy protein and fiber.

Good morning! Happy Thursday. Mostly sunny and 30 degrees in Albany, NY. There is a west breeze at 5 mph. πŸƒ. There are 0.3 inches of snow on the ground. β˜ƒ ️Cold start to the morning, though warming up quickly, it will be above freezing by 9 AM.

Rode my bike in again to work today. 🚲 Like I do most days, while the weather is decent. Today is share cookies day in the office πŸͺ so I had to be careful riding in with my bike box full with my laptop, lunch, snacks, and a large glass pyrex container full of cookies I baked. πŸ“¦ πŸͺ πŸ’» πŸŽ’ But with careful ride in on the somewhat snowy and icy bike trail I made it in safely. I did make sure my basket was good and tight to the panier rack, and things bungeed down, and easy on the bumps.

Today will be sunny 🌞, with a high of 37 degrees at 1pm. Two degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around December 18th. West wind 5 to 7 mph. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning, remaining cloudy in the afternoon. The high last year was 31 degrees. The record high of 63 was set in 1901. 12.5 inches of snow fell back in 1956.❄

Working back downtown again today. πŸ“ƒ I wouldn’t want to miss the exchange cookies day this afternoon, πŸͺ plus I like the

At sunset, look for mostly clear skies πŸŒ„ and temperatures around 36 degrees. There will be a south-southwest breeze at 5 mph. Today will have 9 hours and 7 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 34 seconds over yesterday.

Big Red passed his inspection with no issues, πŸ”ŽπŸ›» the oil changed and tires rotated. Prices have gone up a bit in the shop, I think it was about $94 bucks for all three things but I should be good until next summer except should random things break or need repair before then. Makes me want to go back to changing my own oil, lol. πŸ›’ I want to get another year out of Big Red if at all possible, so I’ll feed it parts beyond engine or transmission tear-down type repairs. πŸ‘©‍πŸ”§ Rust continues to be an issue but I’ve been painting it with red primer, and some point maybe in the spring I’ll cover with duplicate color match. πŸ‘¨‍🎨 I haven’t put the hub caps back on, will do this weekend after I do a quick check of the torque of the wheel nuts, lest the shop mess that up. πŸ”§ Can’t happen twice, right?

Tonight will be mostly clear πŸŒƒ, with a low of 28 degrees at 3am. Five degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around November 29th. South wind around 8 mph. In 2022, we had cloudy skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 16 degrees. The record low of -8 occurred back in 1874.

Today in 1994, started construction begins on the Three Gorges Dam on the Yangtze river. The Three Gorges Dam has been the world’s largest power station in terms of installed capacity (22,500 MW) since 2012. In 2014, the dam generated 98.8 terawatt-hours (TWh) and had the world record, but was surpassed by the Itaipú Dam, which set the new world record in 2016, producing 103.1 TWh. 🏞 Also, today was a notable date in civil rights history, with the release of the Heart of Atlanta Motel, Inc. v. United States, 379 U.S. 241 (1964), a landmark United States Supreme Court case holding that the Commerce Clause gave the U.S. Congress power to force private businesses to abide by Title II of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, which prohibits discrimination in public accommodations.

Mild and pretty nice for the weekend. πŸ˜€ Friday is going to be in the fifties. And Saturday, partly sunny, with a high near 45. North wind around 6 mph. Sunday, more clouds push in especially late, with a high near 47. Typical average high for the weekend is 38 degrees.

Looking ahead, next Thursday is First Day of Winter β˜ƒοΈ when the sun will be setting at 4:26 pm with dusk at 4:56 pm. On that day in 2022, we had mostly sunny and temperatures between 34 and 16 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 37 degrees. We hit a record high of 62 back in 2018.

REI promotes that so they can sell you more outdoors gear. I don’t need any more junk, I’m just ready to head out of town to the mountains to hike, camp and spend a few days away from the internet.

Good morning! Mostly cloudy and 40 degrees in Delmar, NY. ☁ There is a west-northwest breeze at 10 mph. πŸƒ. The current wind chill is 29. Temperatures will drop below freezing at around 4 pm. β˜ƒοΈ

That five hour energy shot β˜• really wakes you up, combined with cream of wheat 🌾, strawberries πŸ“, banana 🍌 and some Greek YogurtπŸ₯€ for protein. Also had some edamane for extra protein boost as I’m hiking. Goal πŸ₯… is to be on the road before eight. πŸ›»

Today will be partly sunny, with a temperature falling to around 32 by 5pm. Northwest wind 10 to 14 mph. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning with a few breaks of sun the afternoon. The high last year was 49 degrees. The record high of 70 was set in 2014. 8.8 inches of snow fell back in 1898.❄

Today I’m heading up to Prospect Mountain β›° for a quick hike up there and then to the Adirondacks to camp for four days. β›Ί Packed the microspikes as I may want them for Prospect. Probably taking the steep trail from Spring Street in the village to the summit. Going to be a cold night ahead ❄, sunset comes early πŸŒ‡ and I’m worried 😯 about the snow depth requiring me to drag gear back to camp so I want to make sure I get an early start both up and down the mountain and then to set up camp β›Ί. Plus I need to stop and get groceries like eggs and fresh fruit to eat up at camp. πŸ₯š 🍏 πŸ›’

Solar noon 🌞 is at 11:43 am with sun having an altitude of 26.9Β° from the due south horizon (-43.9Β° vs. 6/21). Thanksgiving πŸ¦ƒ dinner with the folks was good but kind of bland and ordinary, the pie πŸ₯§ was very sugary. Still I treasure the family πŸ‘ͺ dinner 🍽 as it may very well be the last or one of the last with mom’s cooking. She cooked all day πŸ‘©πŸΌβ€πŸ³ and did her best to make a delicious πŸ˜‹ meal. I enjoyed it in the context of what it is. I think I’ve gotten more and more into spice while my parents like things with less of a kick. ⏳ Definitely when I start cooking Thanksgiving dinner myself I’ll use a lot more spice and less sugar and fat. Gravy is so bland and fatty unless you really amp it up with spice. Time spent with your parents, enjoying their home cooking in your forties is so precious.

Tonight will be mostly clear πŸŒƒ, with a low of 22 degrees at 6am. Seven degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around December 17th. Maximum wind chill around 17 at 4am; Northwest wind 7 to 10 mph. In 2022, we had partly cloudy skies in the evening, which became light rain by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 40 degrees. The record low of 2 occurred back in 1938.

Going to be even colder up north ❄, talking the single digits by morning. I got a fair amount of propane so I should be good. ♨ Bringing the thermal underwear, insulated bib overalls and full face mask in preparation for a cold night ahead. 🧀

Tomorrow will be mostly sunny 🌞, with a high of 40 degrees at 1pm. Five degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around December 9th. Northwest wind around 6 mph becoming south in the afternoon. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning with a few breaks of sun the afternoon. The high last year was 49 degrees. The record high of 64 was set in 2004. 21.8 inches of snow fell back in 1971.❄

That should be good for charging the batteries πŸ”‹ as it’s going to be cold. Saturday and Sunday plan to just hike around camp β›Ί and do some reading πŸ“–, listening to podcasts πŸ“» and relaxing away from it all. Need to tune into the weather radio to keep an eye on how much snow will arrive Sunday night into Monday and then decide if I should head home early. 🏑

Looking ahead to Sunday, a chance of rain after 1pm. Partly sunny, β˜€ with a high near 43. South wind 5 to 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Typical average high for the weekend is 45 degrees.

Looking ahead, next Friday is December πŸŽ„ when the sun will be setting at 4:24 pm with dusk at 4:54 pm. On that day in 2022, we had mostly cloudy and temperatures between 40 and 32 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 43 degrees. Cue the cheesy Christmas 🀢 music 🎢. We hit a record high of 67 back in 1934. Well before my time.

Cedar River Flow

Riding downtown early on this TGIF 🚲

I was on the fence about riding in today but I figured it would save a buck thirty and I figured even if the weather is crap for the evening I’m not going to be riding home as it’s dark out.

Good morning! Yeah, it’s Friday! Partly cloudy and 46 degrees at the Empire State Plaza. β›… There is a south breeze at 13 mph. πŸƒ. Temperatures will drop below freezing at Monday around noontime. β˜ƒοΈ

That wind is really whipping around on the Plaza 🌬️ but the actual ride in was quite pleasant. I’d like to get in 10,000 steps for the day πŸ‘£ but that might be hard as I have a one o’clock meeting πŸ§‘β€πŸ’Ό and I’m not sure if it will be nice enough to walk in the evening. Plus it’s a Friday and I’m tired but the 7 ΒΎ mile bike ride from Delmar to the office downtown 🏒 and the eighteen flights of stairs to my office has to count for something.

Today will be partly sunny 🌞, with a high of 63 degrees at 1pm. 14 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around October 13th. Maximum dew point of 50 at 4pm. South wind 13 to 18 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. The high last year was 44 degrees. The record high of 73 was set in 1928. 2.8 inches of snow fell back in 1992.❄

That’s a pretty impressive forecast to start the day out, and it was worth it to ride in. 🚲 I was a bit hesitant as the weather is going to be cool and windy 🌬 come the evening as the front pushes through that will bring rain for SZ opening day 🦌 and I’m planning on bringing my laptop home, πŸ’» and hauling the day pack with the laptop carrying case plus loading my bike on the bus 🚌 can be a bit of a armful but I’ve done it before. Bike will ride good on the bus even if it’s windy I’m sure, as there is plenty of wind pushing on the bike every other day I ride the bus with my bike on the expressway.

Yesterday I got sweet onions πŸ§… and that was the first thing I chopped up this morning and fried up with spinach, mushrooms πŸ„ tomatoes πŸ… and eggs πŸ₯š. You know a good fiber and protein rich breakfast. 🍳 When I make up eggs, it’s rarely more than the eggs are glue to be used with all those delicious πŸ˜‹ vegetables.

Solar noon 🌞 is at 11:41 am with sun having an altitude of 28.4Β° from the due south horizon (-42.4Β° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 11.1 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour πŸ… starts at 3:50 pm with the sun in the west-southwest (237Β°). πŸ“Έ The sunset is in the west-southwest (245Β°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 4:32 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 13 seconds with dusk around 5:01 pm, which is 52 seconds earlier than yesterday. πŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the First Quarter πŸŒ“ Moon in the south-southwest (198Β°) at an altitude of 18Β° from the horizon, 229,292 miles away. πŸš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 5:37 pm. At sunset, look for mostly cloudy skies ☁ and temperatures around 61 degrees. The dew point will be 50 degrees. Breezy, 18 mph breeze β›… from the south with gusts up to 30mph. Should be a pretty mild evening. But windy. Today will have 9 hours and 45 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 2 minutes and 6 seconds over yesterday.

Maybe I will be able to do an evening walk πŸšΆβ€β™€οΈ after all. I will see on how cold and windy it is out this afternoon. I might also walk down to the library, and play with remote sensing data down at the library. But first more of that pea soup 🍲 and homemade bread that I made up yesterday and proved to be a good dinner. Plus maybe I’ll fry up more apples 🍎 and bananas with that avocado oil πŸ₯‘ which is great because I can use a ton of heat to cook and brown things without reaching the smoke point.

Tonight will have showers, mainly before 5am. 🌧 Low of 46 degrees at 6am. 13 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around October 8th. South wind 8 to 16 mph becoming north after midnight. Winds could gust as high as 26 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible. In 2022, we had cloudy skies. It got down to 28 degrees. The record low of 10 occurred back in 1972.

Continuing that Udemy Course on Remote Sensing using the Semi Automatic Classification plugin πŸ—Ί. I’m not totally sure what I’m going to use my new found skills for but it’s something I’ve been interested in a while. πŸ–₯ Raster math is kind of fun and interesting, especially when you use R to do it. Indeed while I may learn with QGIS I’d probably end up using R just because it’s faster to write code then click on all those dialogs.

Tomorrow will have a chance of showers, mainly before 7am. Cloudy through mid morning, then gradual clearing 🌞, with a high of 49 degrees at 12pm. One degree above normal, which is similar to a typical day around November 16th. North wind 10 to 13 mph. Chilly with that wind though. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. The high last year was 43 degrees. The record high of 71 was set in 1928. 9.0 inches of snow fell back in 1980.❄

Doesn’t look like a real great Saturday, β›· but I might go to the Bethlehem Sports Mart that the Boy Scouts host at the High School and look at Cross Country Skis. Then maybe ride out to Voorheesville, just to check out the new Slingerlands temporary rail trail bridge, πŸŒ‰ and maybe get apples 🍏 at Indian Ladder and other things at Hannaford Voorheesville. I’ll still probably get up at 5 o’clock to bake bread πŸ₯–πŸž and Butternut Squash. πŸ†

Looking ahead to Sunday, a slight chance of showers before 1pm. 😎 Partly sunny, with a high near 47. Southwest wind 8 to 15 mph becoming west in the afternoon. Another cool day with the wind, but being SZ season, I’ll probably not wander too far out in the woods. 🦌 But maybe ride out to Five Rivers. And also run to the grocery store for the big weekly shop πŸ›’ . Chance of precipitation is 20%. Typical average high for the weekend is 48 degrees.

Looking ahead, next Friday is Buy Nothing Day πŸ›οΈ when the sun will be setting at 4:27 pm with dusk at 4:56 pm. On that day in 2022, we had partly sunny and temperatures between 49 and 24 degrees. I know you will miss all the sales but that plastic shit kind of stinks when you burn it. Typically, the high temperature is 46 degrees. We hit a record high of 70 back in 2014.

I’m still hoping to get out of town next Friday into next week β›Ί 🚡 but I’m watching the forecast and it seems like the Adirondacks might be getting it’s first good snow come the Wednesday before Thanksgiving. 🌨 It’s not to say I can’t hot tent though, as long as the snow banks aren’t too deep along NY 8. Maybe the bigger issue is that next weekend might be cold ❄ quite cold up north. It’s not the mercury I’m concerned about but if it’s windy out or not. That wind chill can really get to you.

Last full day in West Virginia

Don’t delay, time is limited! So it would seem as tomorrow at this point I’ll be heading back north again. Days go by too quickly it seems.

Good morning! Already Friday! Emotions are very different on vacation then when doing the work week thing. Mostly cloudy and 53 degrees in Canaan Heights, West Virginia. There is a southwest breeze at 12 mph. πŸƒ. This morning reminds me of a cool summer morning.

I am not as sore as I expected this morning from riding Canyon Ridge Jeep Trail πŸš™ on my mountain bike 🚡 yesterday. That road was so rough! And I was going relatively fast as time was going by so quickly with dusk πŸŒ† approaching.

Yesterday was a fun but busy one. 🚡 Rode the old rail line 7 miles and 1,110 ft deep into the Blackwater River Gorge from Coketon outside of Thomas, then mostly carried my mountain bike over several waterfalls and cliff edges up the 4 ½ miles 🚢 to Canyon Road Jeep Trail via Limerock Trail, a badly eroded old logging road.

Had a bone jarring ride to the Olson Firetower, and even more so on way back to Coketon. πŸ™‡Canyon Road is definitely a jeep trail with several washes, lots of mud wallows and a very rocky surface. Fun on a mountain bike but very bone jarring. Olson Firetower is an 100 ft Aeromotor tower, it’s quite tall as Firetower πŸ—Ό go and has good views from Parsons to Davis to parts of Western Maryland. Made it back to my truck at 6:20 pm a little bit before sunset.

In total, rode 22.6 miles plus carried the bike the 4.5 miles up the Limerock Trail for a total of 27.1 miles for the day. Busy tiring day. πŸ₯± I got tuckered in Tucker County WV!

If I wasn’t so dang muddy and sweaty I thought about getting dinner 🌯 at either Hellbenders Burritos or the Purple CafΓ© but time was getting late and the prior was packed. After stopping at Shop and Save I went back to camp β›Ί and cooked up chicken and vegetables. Maybe today I’ll do Hellbenders if I end up back in Davis.

Today will have a chance of rain showers 🌧️ especially in the morning and otherwise mostly cloudy β›… with a high of 67 degrees at 3pm. 8 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around September 30th. Might see a few breaks of sun. Maximum dew point of 60 at 5pm. Breezy with a southwest wind of 12 to 17 mph. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 61 degrees. The record high of 79 was set in 1963. 1.7 inches of snow fell back in 2016.❄

Heading to the Canaan Wildlife Refuge today 🐦 and maybe hike up to the Ridge Trail at Dolly Sods. 🚢 The thing about accessing Dolly Sods from the refuge is it closes at dusk with a risk of getting towed 🚧 so I need to be back to the truck by then. Can’t delay. Some depends on whether it rains. It’s raining a little ways north in Maryland and Southern Pennsylvania. β˜” If it becomes really wet I could see going back to Davis and getting lunch at Hellbenders Burritos 🌯 then spending the afternoon at the Tucker County library πŸ’» looking at an uploading some photos. πŸ“Έ And maybe some of the mountain bike trails in the rain. πŸ˜‚

Solar noon 🌞 is at 12:40 pm with sun having an altitude of 34.7Β° from the due south horizon (-36.2Β° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 8.7 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour πŸ… starts at 5:17 pm with the sun in the west-southwest (247Β°). πŸ“Έ The sunset is in the west-southwest (253Β°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 6:25 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 2 seconds with dusk around 6:54 pm, which is one minute and 25 seconds earlier than yesterday. πŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the Full 🌝 Moon in the east (88Β°) at an altitude of 11Β° from the horizon, 230,268 miles away. πŸš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 6:59 pm. At sunset, look for cloudy skies and temperatures around 57 degrees. The dew point will be 60 degrees. There will be a south breeze at 6 mph. Tomorrow will have 10 hours and 32 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 2 minutes and 37 seconds over today.

Tonight will be cloudy ☁️, with a low of 49 degrees at 4am. 12 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around September th. Maximum dew point of 60 at 6pm. South wind around 6 mph. In 2022, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 35 degrees. The record low of 18 occurred back in 1974.

Governor Ronald Reagan in 1964 delivers a speech on behalf of the Republican candidate for president, Barry Goldwater. The speech launches his political career and comes to be known as “A Time for Choosing”. πŸŽ™οΈ Extremism is no vice seems to be the rallying call of both political parties these days probably because all most party candidates fear in gerrymandered districts is primaries. πŸ—³

Tomorrow will have chance of rain. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 64. West wind 8 to 12 mph. 🌧️ Chance of precipitation is 30%. New rainfall amounts less than a tenth of an inch possible. 18 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around September 16th. Maximum dew point of 63 at 11am. South wind 6 to 13 mph becoming northwest in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 20%. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 55 degrees. The record high of 78 was set in 1971. 2.0 inches of snow fell back in 1952.❄

I’m now thinking πŸ’ about heading up to Paw Paw tomorrow to check out the Paw Paw Canal Tunnel 🚣 where the C&O Canal goes through a mountain in a tunnel. It’s a bit out of the way – further east than I planned on going but it would replace going to Seneca Rocks which I’ve done a couple of times but was considering alternative trails up that way. There is a National Park campground β›Ί in Paw Paw but despite being an hour closer to home, that still leaves a long trip back to the Albany. That’s why I might explore then head north to County Bridge or Asaph Run campgrounds in northern central Pennsylvania. Asaph Run is right on the Pine Creek Rail Trail so I could ride that Sunday if not too wet.

Looking ahead to Sunday, a chance of showers before 11am, then rain, mainly after 11am. β˜” High near 50. North wind around 6 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible. Typical average high for the weekend is 57 degrees.

So if I end up at Asaph Run come Sunday, 🚲 the plan is to ride as much of the Trail through the Pine Creek Gorge as time and weather allows. I don’t mind riding in drizzle, I have one set of dry clothes left by then but not pouring rain. β˜” Want to leave by 2 pm so I can be pretty close to home by sunset πŸŒ‡ or at least pitch blackness driving 🚘 in the rain. Maybe stop at Annuto’s in Oneonta and get more apples 🍏, they were good. Doughnuts 🍩 too but I think I’ll skip them this time for health reasons, lol πŸ˜‚.

Looking ahead, there are 4 weeks until Buy Nothing Day πŸ›οΈ when the sun will be setting at 4:27 pm with dusk at 4:57 pm (Standard Time). After all the money πŸ’΅ I’ve spent on vacation, I won’t have any money to buy shit but I might go up to the Adirondacks that weekend to burn Thanksgiving calories πŸ¦ƒ and have a big fire πŸ”₯ and maybe do some hiking. 🚢 On that day in 2022, we had partly sunny and temperatures between 49 and 24 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 46 degrees. We hit a record high of 70 back in 2014.

Feeling a little sick this morning 🀒

Feeling kind of sick this morning, but I’m doing okay, dragging myself to work. I figure after a good pan of eggs and maybe some grapes, I should be good to go. I think I’m just a bit sleepless looking forward to my vacation, or maybe I’m coming down with a minor cold. But I’m hoping to power through it and leave in about 24 hours to start heading south to Pennsylvania.

Good morning! Happy Friday Before October Vacation! Clouds, fog and 54 degrees in Delmar, NY. β˜” There is a south-southeast breeze at 9 mph. πŸƒ. The dew point is 51 degrees. The skies will clear Monday around 4 am.

Not sure why suddenly this morning I felt so sick 🀒 though I wasn’t feeling great yesterday afternoon either. Started out like a cold with some congestion, achiness, exhaustion and now it’s progressed to more of a stomach bug. A few frequent visits to the toilet it would seem. 🚽 I really shouldn’t be in the office this morning, but it’s hard to call in sick the day before your vacation. I’ll wash my hands well, wear a muzzle and suck it up. Maybe it’s because I was up too late last night kneading bread and up to early to start cooking down the 15-bean soup 🍡, butternut squash πŸ† and two loaves of bread. 🍞 Need to have a lot of bread ready to go as it’s not going to be easy to cook quality bread when I go down to West Virigina.

I got to the store last night an bought another pair of 34″ inch jeans. πŸ‘– I am amazed that I regularly fit into 34×32 inch jeans comfortably when at the beginning of the year I was regularly wearing 40×32 jeans and even they were tight. I don’t feel like I’ve lost a lot of weight but looking at photos I realize I have lost quite a bit of wait. Kind of weird how that sneaks up with you after healthy eating. I also got a bunch of supplies for camping and around the apartment, including flour to make up the bread last night. 🍞

Today will have showers likely, then showers and possibly a thunderstorm after 2pm. 🌦 High of 61 degrees at 2pm. Two degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around October 16th. Maximum dew point of 57 at 2pm. πŸ–οΈ Southeast wind 9 to 11 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 57 degrees. The record high of 80 was set in 1965. There was a dusting of snow in 1952.❄

This evening I need to run to the laundromat πŸ‘• to ensure I have sufficient clothing plus a pair of clothes to wear the following Monday to work when I come back from vacation. Then just a lot of packing. I just wasn’t feeling up to that last night, plus I needed to get some groceries, and needed a lot of the spices and supplies for cooking. I’ll do the best I can do tonight, but it might be raining out hard, so I might end up getting everything ready to pack come the morning. I do want to leave around 9 AM tomorrow, which I will go to the bank first, then maybe down to For the Love of Bacon, then Oneonta for Annutto’s Farm Stand then down to PA. Not a rush though as it’s going to be a rainy day.

Solar noon 🌞 is at 12:41 pm with sun having an altitude of 37.1° from the due south horizon (-33.7° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 7.9 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour πŸ… starts at 5:28 pm with the sun in the west-southwest (250°). πŸ“Έ The sunset is in the west-southwest (257°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 6:07 pm after setting for 2 minutes and 59 seconds with dusk around 6:34 pm, which is one minute and 33 seconds earlier than yesterday. πŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the First Quarter πŸŒ“ Moon in the south (189°) at an altitude of 19° from the horizon, 230,138 miles away. πŸš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 7:09 pm. At sunset, look for rain 🌧 and thunderstorms 🌩 and temperatures around 60 degrees. The dew point will be 57 degrees. There will be a south-southeast breeze at 9 mph. Today will have 10 hours and 54 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 2 minutes and 45 seconds over yesterday.

I forgot to get Five Hour Energy Shots yesterday β˜• so I figure I’ll just put a single cup of coffee in my refigerator overnight, and leave it at that. I don’t need that much caffeine, if I’m truly desperate I’ll stop somewhere and get coffee. πŸ₯š Then hard boiled and bananas to snack on my trip down to Pennsylvania tomorrow. I might get energy shots though for Sunday’s trip to West Virigina, as there is even fewer places to pee on that leg of the trip and I don’t want to do much cooking but instead break camp early so I can go riding as time allows at

Tonight will rain and possibly a thunderstorm. 🌧 Low of 55 degrees at 5am. 15 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around September 13th. Maximum dew point of 57 at 6pm. πŸ–οΈ Southeast wind 5 to 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible. In 2022, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 31 degrees. The record low of 17 occurred back in 1972.

I am looking forward to participating in some of those Udemy Courses now that the local library is offering them for free. πŸ“š

Tomorrow will rain. 🌧 High of 58 degrees at 12pm. One degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around October 22nd. Maximum dew point of 55 at 6am. πŸ–οΈ Northwest wind 6 to 14 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 61 degrees. The record high of 81 was set in 1979. 0.2 inches of snow fell back in 1926.❄

Looking ahead to Sunday, showers likely, mainly after 2pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 51. β›… West wind 15 to 18 mph, with gusts as high as 33 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. Going to also be windy in West Virginia but more sun. Kind of a cold night to start out my first night at West Virigina but I’ll have my propane tank topped off in Keyser and I might hot tent if necessary. ♨️ Figure going to be down there for nights, so I should pitch a tent, if onylt to store gear. β›Ί Typical average high for the weekend is 60 degrees.

Looking ahead, there are 5 weeks until Buy Nothing Day πŸ›οΈ when the sun will be setting at 4:27 pm with dusk at 4:57 pm (Standard Time). On that day in 2022, we had partly sunny and temperatures between 49 and 24 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 46 degrees. We hit a record high of 70 back in 2014.
