Happy Tax Day ๐Ÿค‘

Well we know who is going to be living high on the hog today. Not me, but the government certainly will be as $1,600 is transferred from my bank account to the state and feds. I think I did end up overpaying the state due to a mistake on my tax returns, but alas either state tax and finance will catch my mistake or I’ll file an amended return and get like $400 back. With high interest rates and lots of dividends, it was a good year last one, and I ended up making more then I expected so I didn’t deduct enough from my paycheck.

Good morning on this Tax Day! You know how I feel about that. Cranky, especially as I think each year we get a little less and less out of government while it cost more and more, as it eats up more and more resources and demands more growth. ๐Ÿ‰ Fog and 44 degrees in Delmar, NY. ๐ŸŒซ๏ธ Calm wind. The skies will clear around 6 am.

Yeah, I do need to adjust my paycheck deductions upwards further ๐Ÿ’ธ I think this year and I do need to plan on making an appointment to meet with an CPA to decide better ways to manage my taxes going forward, especially if I’m thinking of potentially buying land ๐Ÿšœ later this year to build a cabin ๐Ÿ›–, that is if I decide to stay in New York. Last night I was actually watching a movie on Kanopy — the free library app for watching documentaries — on a 30-year old that went and built a Tiny Home on wheels. It was an interesting video ๐Ÿ“บ๏ธ but really not for me. I like the idea of small but I would want something a little more permanent and long lasting, small but not tiny. Maybe modular or maybe stick built, with an actual foundation and complying with building codes for energy and fire safety. ๐Ÿงฏ

Today will have patchy dense fog before 8am. Otherwise, partly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 60 degrees at 5pm. One degree above normal, which is similar to a typical day around April 16th. Light northwest wind becoming west 11 to 16 mph in the afternoon. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 84 degrees. The record high of 86 was set in 2003. 2.4 inches of snow fell back in 2014.โ„

Going to be decent enough to ride to work, ๐Ÿšดโ€โ™‚๏ธ get some exercise and save on the bus fare. I know I can ride into today and tomorrow, but the second half of the week looks a bit dicey with the forecast. ๐ŸŒฒThere is a Save the Pine Bush meeting tonight at 6 PM via the Zoom, but I should be able to ride and be home before then. Might do the meeting while I’m cooking dinner.

Around 7 AM the fire alarm went off again ๐Ÿง‘โ€๐Ÿš’ — first time that’s happened in a while which is surprising as I have most of my windows open but it’s pretty foggy and humid. I cleaned the smoke detector with canned air the other day which seemed to help somewhat. At least it hasn’t been going off at night. I made sure to open the remainder of the windows in my apartment and it should be good with plenty of fresh air once the fog burns off and things warm up.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:56 pm with sun having an altitude of 57.4ยฐ from the due south horizon (-13.5ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 3.8 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 7:00 pm with the sun in the west (278ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-northwest (285ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 7:38 pm after setting for 2 minutes and 59 seconds with dusk around 8:07 pm, which is one minute and 8 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the First Quarter ๐ŸŒ“ Moon in the south-southwest (211ยฐ) at an altitude of 71ยฐ from the horizon, 245,994 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 8:43 pm. At sunset, look for mostly clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 54 degrees. There will be a northwest breeze at 11 mph. Tomorrow will have 13 hours and 30 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 46 seconds over today.

Still having issues with my phone screen acting up. ๐Ÿ“ฒ At some point I really do need to get a new phone and my boots have holes in them ๐Ÿฅพ but with inflation you know you gotta cut corners wherever you can.

Tonight will be mostly clear ๐ŸŒƒ, with a low of 39 degrees at 6am. Two degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around April 20th. Northwest wind 5 to 10 mph becoming light west. In 2023, we had partly cloudy skies. It got down to 57 degrees. The record low of 22 occurred back in 1981.

I’d like to get out of town this weekend ๐Ÿ•๏ธ but it all comes down to the weather and whether or not not the state budget is done. Looks cool and maybe cloudy to start the way. Maybe take a three-day weekend if the state budget is done. Saturday, a chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 55. Chance of precipitation is 40%. Sunday, partly sunny, with a high near 52. Monday, mostly sunny, with a high near 59. That’s actually kind of cold for the second half of April, at least by historic standards. Typical average high for the weekend is 62 degrees.

As previously noted, next Monday is Earth Day ๐ŸŒŽ when the sun will be setting at 7:47 pm with dusk at 8:15 pm. On that day in 2023, we had rain showers and temperatures between 68 and 53 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 63 degrees. We hit a record high of 86 back in 1985.

The Bethlehem Mountain Bike Trail System was a Big Pile of Slop this Morning ๐Ÿšตโ€โ™€๏ธ ๐Ÿท

It was fun but I couldn’t get any traction at all climbing the hills. Granted I don’t have studded tires, but the hills were so slick with that mixture of sand and organic matter that is common on the hills around Delmar. After riding a short amount of trail I tossed my hands up and headed back for the road, and then rode out to Voorheesville. Road 15 miles today before coming home and having lunch — sweet potatoes fried up with peas and left rice-lentils from last week. Little bit of salt and turmeric, and some olive oil and pure delicious nature.

Good morning! Happy 7:15 AM Sunrise โŒ›๏ธ ! Not that you could tell this morning, it was cloudy. A few minutes ago the rain started — caught a few showers riding back from Voorheesville — with temperatures around 51 degrees. โ˜” There is a south breeze at 13 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. Felt that wind really pushing in my face. The dew point is 49 degrees. It’s going to be a wet and windy next 24 hours, but maybe not too snowy locally — as temperatures aren’t expected to drop below freezing until Monday around 9 pm. โ˜ƒ๏ธ

Breakfast started out closer to 6 am with coffee, fried kidney beans, onions, corn and spinach and eggs. ๐ŸณA good protein rich breakfast. Lunch was fried sweet potato ๐Ÿ  with leftover brown rice-lentils. A good ride before the rain picked up. It will be nice this afternoon seeing the folks. ๐Ÿ‘ช Italian riggies for dinner.

Going to work on improving my bread ๐Ÿž this coming week. With the whole wheat ๐ŸŒพ flour I’ve been cooking healthy but the bread is often dense and crumbly after a few days. Buying some wheat gluten and xanthan gum to experiment with better bread including rye bread this week. 15 bean soup tomorrow then chicken ๐Ÿ” soup later in the week I plan to cook.

Today will rain, mainly after noon. ๐ŸŒง High of 52 degrees at 1pm. 14 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around November 5th. Maximum dew point of 52 at 2pm. ๐Ÿ–๏ธ South wind 7 to 13 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. The high last year was 31 degrees. The record high of 64 was set in 1966. 6.1 inches of snow fell back in 2014.โ„

Doesn’t look like the worse weather really gets underway until relatively late. ๐ŸŒง ๐ŸŒจ It looks like if anything a lot of heavy rain and snow. I am going to try not to stay out at my parents house too late into the evening, lest I get caught driving home in really soaking wet weather. I do

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 11:49 am with sun having an altitude of 24.5ยฐ from the due south horizon (-46.3ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 13.2 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 3:38 pm with the sun in the southwest (231ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-southwest (239ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 4:23 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 24 seconds with dusk around 4:53 pm, which is one second later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 5:30 pm. At sunset, look for rain ๐ŸŒง and temperatures around 51 degrees. The dew point will be 51 degrees. There will be a south breeze at 7 mph. Today will have 9 hours and 10 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 51 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will rain before 3am, then rain and snow. ๐ŸŒง Low of 34 degrees at 4am. Nine degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around November 12th. Northwest wind 9 to 13 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New snow accumulation of 1 to 2 inches possible. I guess but it’s really going to be too warm to accumulate a lot on the road. In 2022, we had cloudy skies in the evening, which became light snow by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 25 degrees. The record low of -8 occurred back in 1988.

Today in 1978, Prime Minister of Israel Menachem Begin and President of Egypt Anwar Sadat are jointly awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for their work ending the Arab-Isreali conflict. ๐Ÿค Seems so quaint now, and insignificant with Isreal and Hamas back at war. Not the same characters but in many ways still kind of the same conflict. Also, in 1817 Mississippi becomes the 20th U.S. state, and was the last one to have the rebel flag on it’s state flag until a few years ago, when it became too embarassing with Black Lives Matters. ๐Ÿด๓ ต๓ ณ๓ ญ๓ ณ๓ ฟ I always thought the rebel flag controversy was stupid, why can’t boys still watch the Dukes of Hazard? Being a rebel or proud of southern heritage is different form being a racist.

As previously noted, there are 2 weeks until Christmas Eve ๐ŸŽ… when the sun will be setting at 4:28 pm with dusk at 4:58 pm. On that day in 2022, we had cold, partly cloudy, snow showers and temperatures between 15 and 7 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 36 degrees. We hit a record high of 72 back in 2015.

Afternoon Walk At Dolly Sods

The Grand Canyon

April 15, 2021 Morning

Good morning! Happy April 15th, which is normally tax day. ๐Ÿ’ฐ ! But this year for some reason, the pandemic or maybe because people don’t like to be rushed to do taxes, they put it off. But I got my federal refund back. Next Thursday is Earth Day ๐ŸŒŽ . I am sure all the coal rollers are well aware of that fact. Rain showers and 52 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜” There is a east-southeast breeze at 7 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 45 degrees. The skies will clear Monday around 5 am. Going to be a rather rainy next two days, then fairly cloudy come the weekend. Maybe some snow in the mountains, especially the Green Mountains but I don’t expect it to last long at this point.

That COVID vaccine really knocked me out yesterday, ๐Ÿ’‰ at least for a few hours. Then I took a full-dose of sleeping medication, and I slept like a baby but this morning I am in a bit of a haze between the dark and cloudy skies and my general inability to get going. So I skipped my morning walk, and I doubt I’ll do my evening walk but maybe I’ll do laps around the apartment later.

Today will rain. ๐ŸŒง High of 53 degrees at 11am. Five degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around April 4th. Maximum dew point of 47 at 10am. ๐Ÿ–๏ธ Southeast wind 7 to 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New precipitation amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible. A year ago, we had light snow in the morning, which became partly cloudy by afternoon. The high last year was 48 degrees. November 26, 2020 Afternoon

Good afternoon! Happy Thanksgiving. ๐Ÿฆƒ Hopefully you’re not one sick ๐Ÿคฎ turkey with COVID-19 and are enjoying your day. Rain and 53 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜” There is a south breeze at 7 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 49 degrees. There are 9 inches of snow on the ground. โ˜ƒ ๏ธTemperatures will drop below freezing at Sunday around 3 am. โ˜ƒ๏ธ

I am pretty good although I slept in ๐Ÿ˜ด because I woke early and ended up listening to the news before falling back asleep again. ๐Ÿ“ป Then I got working on a bunch of different projects on my computer. I am trying to stay off the internet – the amount of doom scrolling ๐Ÿ“œ one can do is a terrible waste of time.

As I noted yesterday heading out to the parents house for a socially distant Thanksgiving around tray tables. ๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿ‘งโ€๐Ÿ‘งโ†”๏ธ๐Ÿง”๐Ÿป๐Ÿ—๐Ÿฝ๏ธ It will be fun to do before everything really shuts down as the pandemic really climbs the next few weeks. I’m already planning to work primarily from home this winter ๐Ÿก๐Ÿ’ป, having figured out how to do it with my phone as a hot spot.

I have the groceries I need and will be heading up to the Adirondacks tomorrow for a few days. โ›บ I do think I want to stop for hot coca โ˜• on the way up there and maybe a few other supplies but I want to get up there pretty early as the sun sets early ๐ŸŒ‡ this time of year. Do some short hiking from camp, listen to a lot of podcasts and retire to bed ๐Ÿ› fairly early. I could hot tent but I don’t think it neccesary for this weekend.
