Not the nicest Hump Day around ever to kick off spring ๐ŸŒง๏ธ

March rain and snow showers bring mud and a lower fire risk and hopefully some green though it will need to warm up a bit. But I’m sure 80 degree days aren’t far off. I am just hoping for nice weather come Easter weekend.

Good morning! What day is it? Hump Day, of course. Rain and snow showers around and 34 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜” There is a south breeze at 8 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. Temperatures will drop below freezing at around 8 pm. โ˜ƒ๏ธ

While I concede that I probably will get wet, I am going to ride my bike to work today. ๐Ÿšฒ I am nuts ๐Ÿคช but hardly that’s a secret – I figure I’m kind of the Charlie Luce of Data Services. You know the former CEO of ConEd who used to ride his bicycle to work and to construction ๐Ÿšง sites to view projects in the 1960s. I think the bigger danger is getting soaked at five o’clock ๐Ÿ’ฆ though if it happens I’ll throw my bike on the bus ๐Ÿš and come home and get changed. I like the exercise and saving the bus fare. ๐ŸŽซ

Today will have a slight chance of rain and snow showers before 11am, then a chance of rain showers after noon. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฆ, with a high of 47 degrees at 2pm. Typical for today. South wind 8 to 10 mph becoming west in the morning. Chance of precipitation is 50%. Little or no snow accumulation expected. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning with sunny skies in the afternoon. The high last year was 52 degrees. The record high of 78 was set in 2012. 7.0 inches of snow fell back in 1944.โ„

Last night I got home and was somewhat chilled through from the evening bike ride. ๐ŸŒฌ๏ธ It was windy to say the least. Microwaved a sweet potato, chopped it up and fried it with onions and corn. ๐Ÿณ Not a half bad dinner, I was fully engulfed in the Power Broker audio book. ๐ŸŽง๏ธ You know the classic one by Robert Caro on Robert Moses. The politics are intensely fascinating. ๐Ÿ—๏ธ I was going to read and watch some videos about building green homes, but somehow I was cold so I retired to under my electric blanket and was asleep shortly after 7 PM. I had planned to get up really early — maybe at 4 AM to do more reading, ๐Ÿ“š๏ธ but somehow I didn’t get up until some point between 5:30 and 5:45 AM which is late for me. I guess I needed a bit of extra sleep last night. ๐Ÿ›๏ธ

Probably the reason why my sleep is so fucked up ๐Ÿ’ค is because I drink like 2-3 large cups of coffee in the morning,  โ˜•๏ธ then I come into the office in and drink two more cups of iced black coffee.  ๐ŸงŠ It keeps me awake, but as my doctor noted last year, it’s kind of excessive to say the least. I should drink more water  in the morning, and try to be more in moderation so I’m not pissing all of the time. ๐Ÿฅ› But also by the time I get home I’m just warn out after all those hours of studying data records. Plus I’m spending so much time thinking what my future home would look like, and all the steps to implement it. But what I need the most is a good night in the wilderness with a big fire. ๐Ÿ•๏ธ ๐Ÿ”ฅ I’m really hoping next week.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 1:04 pm with sun having an altitude of 47.5° from the due south horizon (-23.4° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 5.5 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 6:31 pm with the sun in the west (265°). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west (271°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 7:08 pm after setting for 2 minutes and 54 seconds with dusk around 7:36 pm, which is one minute and 9 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the Waxing Gibbous ๐ŸŒ” Moon in the east-southeast (111°) at an altitude of 51° from the horizon, 249,398 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 8:09 pm. At sunset, look for rain ๐ŸŒง and snow ๐ŸŒจ and temperatures around 35 degrees. There will be a west-northwest breeze at 15 mph. Tomorrow will have 12 hours and 16 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 54 seconds over today.

Tonight will have a slight chance of snow showers before 9pm, then a slight chance of snow showers after 5am. Mostly cloudy, then gradually becoming mostly clear ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 22 degrees at 4am. Six degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around March 4th. West wind around 17 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. In 2023, we had clear skies in the evening, which became clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 24 degrees. The record low of -01 occurred back in 1956.

This weekend is a mixed bag but generally Saturday is wet and Sunday is sunny but cold again. ๐ŸŒฆ๏ธ Saturday, snow, possibly mixed with rain, becoming all rain after 8am. High near 42. Chance of precipitation is 80%. Sunday, partly sunny, with a high near 42. Typical average high for the weekend is 48 degrees.

I am potentially thinking about driving down to Catskill Mountain Cabins in Kingston to learn more ๐Ÿ›– though I almost want to do more research first as I know as soon as a salesperson gets my phone and email ๐Ÿ“ฑ ๐Ÿ“ง I will be harassed to buy now. And I’m not sure if that option is right for me. Already since I’ve mentioned to people that I’m interested in building a small solar powered home, I get people sending me pictures of tiny homes and off grid cabins in the wilderness – both which aren’t practical or realistic options for the life I want to live. I want to have good information in my hands ๐Ÿ‘ and do what’s right for me before buying ๐Ÿ’ฐ but also I don’t want to delay forever.

As previously noted, there are 3 weeks until 8 PM Dusk ๐ŸŒ† when the sun will be setting at 7:33 pm. On that day in 2023, we had sunny and temperatures between 67 and 30 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 57 degrees. We hit a record high of 86 back in 1922.

 Harvey Mountain

It’s nice sleeping with the windows open ๐Ÿ”ฒ

The fresh air is nice even if I don’t love all the road noise.

Good morning! Rain and 51 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜” Breezy, ๏ธ18 mph breeze from the south-southeast ๐ŸŒฌ with gusts up to 28 mph ๐Ÿ’จ๐Ÿ’จ๐Ÿ’จ. The dew point is 50 degrees. Temperatures will drop below freezing at around 11 pm. โ˜ƒ๏ธ

Pancakes ๐Ÿฅž with fruit and maple ๐Ÿ syrup this morning. I should get some locally bottled syrup as this point I’m sure the sugar houses are firing up. Coffee โ˜• too but not to much as there is plenty in the office ๐Ÿข to drink, lol ๐Ÿ˜‚.

Rainy โ˜” morning today, but I’m driving to work ๐Ÿ›ป as we are going to lunch to celebrate ๐ŸŽ‰ the retiring director and I need a car to get to lunch plus I need to get money ๐Ÿ’ต. I also want to bring in some of my plants ๐ŸŒฟ and some of my other office stuff that’s been sitting at home while I’ve been in the temporary cubicle. ๐Ÿ‘ž I have big shoes to fill but I know I’ll do excellent work that I’m proud of in coming years. In some ways it’s a dream job – I’ve always loved working with computers and data – and I get to use the Unix text utilities and SQL every day. Plus lots of R and Python. ๐Ÿ–ฅ I miss the politics and working Capitol Hill but I’m hopeful to be more involved with that side of things come the autumn. ๐Ÿ—ณ Those posters I’m sure once framed will be beautiful in my office. ๐Ÿ–ผ๏ธ

Today will have showers likely, mainly between 10am and 11am. Cloudy ๐ŸŒฆ, with a high of 59 degrees at 2pm. 19 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around April 14th. Maximum dew point of 55 at 1pm. Breezy, with a south wind 18 to 22 mph, with gusts as high as 34 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible. A year ago, we had light snow in the morning, which became mostly sunny by afternoon. The high last year was 36 degrees. The record high of 63 was set in 1903. 9.7 inches of snow fell back in 1948.โ„

I don’t think I’ve ever been so happy ๐Ÿ˜Š to have my rent check clear ๐Ÿ’ต but it seems like my new landlord didn’t delay in cashing the check. It’s good to know he got paid and he’s not going to play games with Venmo. ๐ŸŽฎ While I don’t view Delmar to be my home forever, and hopefully not into next winter it buys time. Even with the June rent hike, this is still my cheapest option to live here. I don’t think I’ll come out ahead owning a home compared to renting a cheap place on the bus ๐Ÿš line and riding to work ๐Ÿšฒ most days.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:09 pm with sun having an altitude of 39.3ยฐ from the due south horizon (-31.6ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 7.3 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 5:05 pm with the sun in the west-southwest (253ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west (260ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 5:43 pm after setting for 2 minutes and 57 seconds with dusk around 6:11 pm, which is one minute and 14 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 6:44 pm. At sunset, look for rain ๐ŸŒง and temperatures around 58 degrees. The dew point will be 54 degrees. Breezy, 22 mph breeze โ›… from the south with gusts up to 37mph. Tomorrow will have 11 hours and 15 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 51 seconds over today.

I’m still looking at better housing options even though my rent check cleared as saving money isn‘t the only thing in this world, I’m rapidly getting older ๐Ÿ‘ด๐Ÿผ and as I settle into what is likely my career for the next twenty years, I should look for a lifestyle that I really want to live. As I noted yesterday, few things scare me more than dropping dead at age 64 and not living the life I want before then. Life isn’t guaranteed forever. Plus I’m super jealous of all my friends and colleagues who have land out in the country. ๐Ÿšœ I shouldn’t be but I am.

I am basically pre-qualified for a mortgage after submitting a ton of documents but I haven’t followed up with the banks to get it in writing or get a letter โœ‰ of pre-approval. Part of it is I might not get a traditional mortgage should a buy a fixer up property or have a cabin built to my specifications. To be clear, I don’t want to stall now that the pressure is off but I want to make the right decision on what may define the place I call home my remaining working year. I am continuing to read a book ๐Ÿ“– about custom home building โš’๏ธ and the contracting process. Is that the right option for me? I don’t know but I don’t want to be stuck in a house too big with features I don’t want with a life I don’t want.

Tonight will rain showers, possibly mixing with snow after 10pm, then gradually ending. ๐ŸŒง Low of 24 degrees at 5am. One degree above normal, which is similar to a typical night around March 1st. Windy, with a south wind 23 to 30 mph becoming northwest after midnight. Winds could gust as high as 48 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. Little or no snow accumulation expected. In 2023, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became partly cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 19 degrees. The record low of -2 occurred back in 2008.

Last night ๐ŸŒƒ I had more fried zucchini with onions and corn with spices. A good dinner followed by some mango and chopped apple ๐Ÿ with cinnamon. Then I went for my evening walk ๐Ÿšถ. Rode both ways to work plus a short ride around North Albany. Been finalizing the details of moving into the new private office and getting the phones ๐Ÿ“ž switched over to that office. Plants ๐ŸŒฟ are moving into that office today even if the retiring director still will be there a bit today.

Right now, a split verdict on the weekend. ๐Ÿ˜• Saturday, a chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 51. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Sunday, partly sunny, with a high near 59. I still think it would be a nice night ๐ŸŒƒ to camp on Saturday if not too muddy. Today’s rain should reduce the fire risk though it also will reduce the snow. Typical average high for the weekend is 40 degrees.

One month ๐Ÿ“… from now the Average High is 50 ๐ŸŒธ when the sun will be setting at 7:18 pm with dusk at 7:45 pm (Daylight Savings Time). That sure will be nice when the heat is off and the windows open. And the evening commute much brighter ๐Ÿ”†.

Bullet hole

It’s like late April in February ๐ŸŒท

Maybe no tulips yet but it’s going to be a real nice one – I’ve seen daffodils starting to spring up and probably in warmer more sheltered parts of the woods coltfoot can be found. I’m sure we’ll still have cold blasts like on Thursday but it gets harder and harder for extended cold come March.

Good morning! Happy Tuesday. Starting out cold but will warm up quickly. Partly sunny and 37 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜€ Calm wind.

Definitely riding to work today, ๐Ÿšฒ leaving early so I can possibly ride up via the upper Menands ramp to extend the ride on this beautiful morning. ๐ŸŒ… Plus I always have a stack of work to do over at Data Services, as the data keeps pouring in. ๐Ÿ–ฅ Don’t get me wrong, I love ๐Ÿ˜ the work but it’s non stop. Data is dirty, it needs processing, manually and programmatically, has to be synced to the databases and user ๐Ÿ‘ค permissions updated. The work never stops in the world of data. ๐Ÿ”ข I’m becoming such a pro with unix textutils – awk, sed, tr, grep and cut are my go to tools โš™.

Today will have a chance of showers, mainly after 5pm. Mostly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 63 degrees at 3pm. 24 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around April 22nd. I’ll take late April weather in February. Already opened a bunch of windows to let the smoke from cooking ๐Ÿณ and steam from showering out. ๐ŸŒฌ๏ธ Going to be windy, and you got to wonder about red flag ๐Ÿšฉ conditions although there is snow in the mountains โ›ฐ remaining for now. Light south wind increasing to 13 to 18 mph in the morning. Winds could gust as high as 30 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning with a few breaks of sun the afternoon. The high last year was 35 degrees. The record high of 61 was set in 1997. 3.6 inches of snow fell back in 2019.โ„

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:09 pm with sun having an altitude of 38.9ยฐ from the due south horizon (-31.9ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 7.4 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 5:04 pm with the sun in the west-southwest (253ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west (259ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 5:42 pm after setting for 2 minutes and 57 seconds with dusk around 6:10 pm, which is one minute and 15 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 6:43 pm. At sunset, look for rain ๐ŸŒง and temperatures around 60 degrees. Breezy, 16 mph breeze โ›… from the south with gusts up to 28mph. Today will have 11 hours and 10 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 50 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will have showers. ๐ŸŒง Low of 51 degrees at 7pm. 30 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around May 24th. Maximum dew point of 50 at 6am. ๐Ÿ–๏ธ South wind 14 to 16 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. Leave the windows open? In 2023, we had cloudy skies in the evening, which became light snow by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 26 degrees. The record low of -10 occurred back in 1950.

Right now, a split verdict on the weekend. ๐Ÿ˜• Saturday, mostly cloudy, with a high near 51. Sunday, partly sunny, with a high near 57. Typical average high for the weekend is 40 degrees. Still looks great for camping ๐Ÿ• but I got to be careful with fire.

Looking ahead, there are 3 weeks until Last Day of Winter ๐Ÿ‚ when the sun will be setting at 7:08 pm with dusk at 7:35 pm (Daylight Savings Time). On that day in 2023, we had partly sunny, snow showers and temperatures between 33 and 22 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 46 degrees. We hit a record high of 78 back in 2012.

Connected Farms

Another nice winter day ahead ๐Ÿ™‚

Riding to work this morning on this beautiful morning. But first I’ve been working on adjusting the gears to make sure they click tightly, though the chain is too loose. I need to figure out how to adjust that. Fortunately I have the internet and tools so I should have everything back to spec soon. I’ll work on adjusting it more in the morning.

Good morning! Sunny and 25 degrees at the Stewart’s. ๐ŸŒž There is a north breeze at 8 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The current wind chill is 14. Things will start to thaw out at around 11 am. ๐ŸŒก๏ธ

Should be a beautiful day for the ride in. ๐Ÿšฒ I don’t have to dress up so I can peddle my way to work. Then sit down at work and do the work thing, and go for a ride at lunch time down to the Corning Preserve. ๐Ÿž I was kind of hoping I could get in early and ride up to the Menand’s exit of the Corning Preserve Trail and not go up Erie Boulevard, but so be it.

Today will be sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 37 degrees at 2pm. Three degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around February 18th. North wind 7 to 9 mph. A year ago, we had cloudy skies in the morning with more sun in the afternoon. The high last year was 41 degrees. The record high of 55 was set in 1991. 10.8 inches of snow fell back in 1978.โ„

Still not quite enough daylight in the evening to ride home ๐ŸŒ† but with the clear skies, I should be able to get to the old train station ๐Ÿš‚ and catch the bus from there. It’s much better to go through Corning Preserve and take the pedestrain bridge then to ride over Water Street which can be busy at rush hour. ๐Ÿš˜ ๐Ÿšด‍โ™€๏ธ I think come President’s Day assuming that it’s not too cold or snowy, I’l be able to ride both ways to work.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:10 pm with sun having an altitude of 31.6° from the due south horizon (-39.2° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 9.7 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 4:34 pm with the sun in the west-southwest (242°). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-southwest (249°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 5:15 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 6 seconds with dusk around 5:44 pm, which is one minute and 18 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 6:18 pm. At sunset, look for mostly clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 35 degrees. There will be a north breeze at 7 mph. Today will have 10 hours and 13 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 28 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be mostly clear ๐ŸŒƒ, with a low of 20 degrees at 6am. Four degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around February 23rd. North wind around 7 mph. In 2023, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 13 degrees. The record low of -18 occurred back in 1995.

Cloudy โ›… but mild this weekend. Saturday, a chance of showers after 1pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 54. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Sunday, mostly cloudy, with a high near 46. Typical average high for the weekend is 35 degrees. The plan for this weekend is to stay in town.

Looking ahead, there are 6 weeks until Last Day of Winter ๐Ÿ‚ when the sun will be setting at 7:08 pm with dusk at 7:34 pm (Daylight Savings Time). On that day in 2023, we had partly sunny, snow showers and temperatures between 33 and 22 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 46 degrees. We hit a record high of 78 back in 2012.

 Dusk

Made it to the weekend, today should be nice, tomorrow who knows ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ

Maybe nice is an exaggeration but it will be mild by mid December standards but fairly cloudy. I think it will be a good day to ride and stay close to home, at least not drive anywhere. Tomorrow I can shop I figure before going out to the folks house in the driving rain.

Good morning! Mostly cloudy and 40 degrees in Delmar. โ˜ There is a south-southeast breeze at 7 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. There is a inch of snow on the ground. โ˜ƒ ๏ธTemperatures will drop below freezing at Monday around 10 pm. โ˜ƒ๏ธ

Made a nice breakfast cake up with oatmeal, cranberries, bananas and pineapple ๐Ÿ. Drank a lot of coffee โ˜• but I’m good as I’m not planning an ambitious day though later on as it warms up I’m thinking about a bike ๐Ÿšฒ ride out to Voorheesville and maybe later on to French’s Mills or Altamont. There is a lot of places I haven’t explored on my bicycle around and even some local preserves that I can’t be bothered to drive to but are within biking range.

Today will be mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฅ, with a high of 49 degrees at 3pm. Nine degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around November 17th. South wind 7 to 14 mph. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning with sunny skies in the afternoon. The high last year was 39 degrees. The record high of 62 was set in 1966. 7.3 inches of snow fell back in 2009.โ„

I won’t say it will be a banner weekend โ˜” especially as the rain comes tomorrow but I’ll make the best of it. I decided against the Salvation Army this weekend, it’s a bit of a drive and I am okay ๐Ÿ‘Œ on clothes truth be told and I don’t love riding the sand trails in the Pine Bush that much. ๐ŸŒฒ๐ŸŒฒ I kind of want to get to Indian Ladder Farms for some apples ๐Ÿ. I’d prefer Altamont Orchards but that’s a pretty long bike ride. Maybe I’ll just wait to I get groceries tomorrow. ๐Ÿ–ฅ Kind of want to get to the library to use the Wi-Fi too this afternoon. ๐Ÿ“ถ

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 11:49 am with sun having an altitude of 24.6ยฐ from the due south horizon (-46.2ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 13.1 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 3:38 pm with the sun in the southwest (231ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-southwest (239ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 4:23 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 23 seconds with dusk around 4:53 pm, which is one second earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 5:30 pm. At sunset, look for partly cloudy skies ๐ŸŒƒ and temperatures around 47 degrees. There will be a south-southeast breeze at 10 mph. Tomorrow will have 9 hours and 10 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 51 seconds over today.

Finally finished that course on Categorizing and Classification of Data Using Machine Learning in R. ๐Ÿค– OK course, but I’ve wish they explained the pros and cons of the different methods better but I’ve previously read up on that. ๐Ÿง‘โ€๐Ÿซ I’ll probably eventually study a Python course on the same topic but first I’m studying Artificial Neural Networks for Business Managers in R Studio. I can’t complain too much, all these classes are free with my Bethlehem Public Library card ๐Ÿ“š unlike many who pay for them. I doubt the instruction quality, at least of this last class would be something I’d pay for. But I still learned how to do a lot of it in R that I previously only knew concepts but not the R packages and code to implement.

Maybe I should cut back on the turmeric. That 6.2 oz bottle I bought last Sunday is third eaten already. ๐Ÿง‚ My teeth could yellow and folks think I’m a smoker, lol. That said I shouldn’t have to worry much about tooth plaque or gingivitis. ๐ŸฆทI just like my food yellow and tasty plus I never have any aches anymore despite climbing all the those stairs and riding all those miles. There are days when every meal ๐Ÿด involves tumeric starting with the fried onions and eggs ๐Ÿณ in the morning.

Tonight will have a slight chance of rain after 4am. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 40 degrees at 2am. 16 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around October 20th. South wind 8 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. In 2022, we had clear skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 20 degrees. The record low of -4 occurred back in 1902.

Trying to keep costs down this weekend as after my credit card ๐Ÿ’ณ bill is paid I’ll only have $350 left in my bank account to tide my over until I get paid the following work week. ๐Ÿ’ธ Heck of it is looking at my second to last paystub of the year I made more then I expected? So much money is going out the door ๐Ÿšช to retirement and investing plus inflation keeps taking a bigger chunk each time I shop for groceries. ๐Ÿช I’m hopeful with my new job next year I’ll make a little more money but with inflation that doesn’t go the way it once would have. I think ๐Ÿค” I’ll do good work in the new job despite my fear ๐Ÿ˜ฑ of messing up ๐Ÿ’ฃ and the inconvenience of transferring buses ๐Ÿš to get there days I can’t mountain bike it. Plus I’m making like $75 a month in ad revenue on the blog.

Today in 1958, the John Birch Society is founded. Businessman and founder Robert W. Welch Jr. (1899โ€“1985) developed an organizational infrastructure in 1958 of chapters nationwide. ๐Ÿฌ After an early rise in membership and influence,๐Ÿฅธ efforts by those such as conservative William F. Buckley Jr. and National Review led the JBS to be identified as a fringe element of the conservative movement, ๐Ÿชฐ mostly in fear of the radicalization of the American right. ๐Ÿ˜ตโ€๐Ÿ’ซ

Looking ahead, next Saturday is Tea Party Day ๐Ÿ when the sun will be setting at 4:24 pm with dusk at 4:54 pm. On that day in 2022, we had snow and temperatures between 35 and 33 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 38 degrees. We hit a record high of 61 back in 2021. Never got into drinking much tea ๐Ÿต. I do like my warm glass of milk before bed ๐Ÿ› on a cold night with some vanilla, ginger and lots of cinnamon though.

Under the Agency Building

A nice morning after a cool and windy weekend at Rennselearville State Forest ๐ŸŒ€

It was nice to get away for two nights, only a quick trip from home. Not a lot of gas or costs which is good plus some great views, chances to ride and walk in the woods.

Good morning! Mostly sunny โ˜€ and 52 degrees at the Rensselaerville State Forest. There is a west-northwest breeze at 8 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 49 degrees.

Nice morning today ๐ŸŒ… but a bit chilly. But it’s the second half of September and I’m in the high country of Albany County so it’s to be expected. Didn’t run out of propane which became a concern yesterday when I noticed the tank was getting light and it’s been about ten nights in the woods since filling the tank on vacation, though many did not involve using the heater much.

Today will have increasing clouds โ˜€ โžก โ˜, with a high of 65 degrees at 4pm. Nine degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around October 7th. Maximum dew point of 51 at 10am. West wind around 8 mph. A year ago, we had cloudy skies in the morning with more sun in the afternoon. The high last year was 72 degrees. The record high of 89 was set in 1942.

Taking camp โ›บ down relatively early ๐Ÿ•’ as I’m thinking about exploring Huyck Preserve ๐Ÿธ for a while before going to the folks house ๐Ÿก early to pick apples ๐Ÿ and Sunday dinner. ๐Ÿ ๐Ÿ— Going to be rain โ˜” by evening and I don’t want to get home that late with the earlier sunsets.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:52 pm with sun having an altitude of 49.8ยฐ from the due south horizon (-21.1ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 5.1 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. Autumn is rapidly approaching. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 6:28 pm with the sun in the west (268ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west (274ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 7:05 pm after setting for 2 minutes and 54 seconds with dusk around 7:31 pm, which is one minute and 47 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the Waxing Crescent ๐ŸŒ’ Moon in the west-southwest (249ยฐ) at an altitude of 6ยฐ from the horizon, 244,955 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 8:07 pm. At sunset, look for rain ๐ŸŒง and temperatures around 60 degrees. The dew point will be 51 degrees. There will be a calm wind. Today will have 12 hours and 27 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 2 minutes and 51 seconds over yesterday.

Yesterday was a somewhat slow day and by midday I was a bit cold ๐Ÿฅถ so I retreated to my truck cap, took a nap and watched YouTube. ๐Ÿ“น Then the sun came out and warmed up a bit, wind which was roaring slowed and went for a ride to the Hillicross Parcel ๐Ÿž then around some of the dirt roads and haul roads ๐Ÿšฒ at the State Forest. Then came back, fried up some potatoes, spinach, snap peas and salmon ๐Ÿ  then went for a hike through the woods to the hill overlooking Camp Cass. Came back had a nice fire ๐Ÿ”ฅ until around ten. Very starry โœจ night, saw two shooting stars before retiring to bed around ten. With the breeze I kept the fire small as it was a rather sparky evening. Not worried about a grass fire but didn’t like all the sparks heading towards my truck for obvious reasons.

Tonight will have showers, mainly after 10pm. ๐ŸŒง Low of 53 degrees at 1am. One degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around September 19th. Maximum dew point of 53 at 1am. ๐Ÿ–๏ธ Light and variable wind becoming east around 6 mph in the evening. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible. In 2022, we had partly cloudy skies. It became humid as the night progressed. It got down to 62 degrees. The record low of 35 occurred back in 1986.

I was hoping to get up to the Adirondacks next weekend for a long one, โ›บ but we’ll see with the weather. I doubt there is much color change yet ๐Ÿ‚ and as of now the long range for next weekend isn’t all that great. But September weekends are rapidly expiring and October is quickly coming. As of now I’m thinking of possibly taking a week the third week of October but things could change.

Looking ahead, there are 2 weeks until October ๐ŸŽƒ when the sun will be setting at 6:40 pm with dusk at 7:07 pm. Happens so quickly. On that day in 2022, we had partly sunny and temperatures between 69 and 46 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 68 degrees. We hit a record high of 90 back in 1927.

A Fall Reflection Seen from Wakely Dam

It was the best summer of my life โ˜บ

That was the thought on my mind as I drove north to the Adirondacks to the usual campsite that I get here early on the Friday before Labor Day Weekend on Hardwood Hill to camp at. Being forty I’m much happier than ever before, some of its my diet, my professional success but I also just feel so much more confident in who I am even as I watch the world go further to shit. Absolutely beautiful day for sure.

Happy Labor Day Weekend! โ›บ Mostly clear and 70 degrees at the Perkins Clearing. There is a southwest breeze at 5 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 51 degrees.

Got up to camp โ›บ on Hardwood Hill, technically the hill next to it a little after ten and got the campsite I’ve been camping at each Labor Day Weekend ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ since I think 2017 when I stopped here to overnight on my way to Moose River Plains and ended up deciding I really liked it and it was even more perfect ๐Ÿ‘Œ once remote work became a thing. No remote work this time but I did enjoy a nice nap in the sun โ˜€ after setting up camp and having rice and squash for a late lunch. ๐Ÿ˜ด Then in the evening I rode down to Perkins Clearing and Jessup River, almost down to Sled Harbor – actually past the Miami River and also past campsite 9 to the swamp in the other direction. ๐Ÿšฒ Hardwood Hill is tough to bike up, I ended up just walking my bicycle up part of it.

Tonight will be mostly clear and moonlit ๐ŸŒƒ, with a low of 45 degrees at 4am. 13 degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around October 4th. Southwest wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the evening. Always cool in the Adirondacks. Good night for sitting by the fire with the hoodie on. In 2022, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 48 degrees. The record low of 38 occurred back in 2017. It is September after all.

As I slept for a while this afternoon ๐Ÿ˜ด going to try to stay up late, though in my experience that’s easier said than done but the moonlight will help along with a good podcast. Thinking tomorrow of staying up late to see the lit up fire towers ๐Ÿ—ผ, maybe after watching the sunset ๐ŸŒ‡ at Lake Pleasant and the celebration there, get ice cream ๐Ÿฆthen drive past Mason Lake to see Snowy Mountain lit up. Just an idea ๐Ÿ’ก for tomorrow. Not set in stone.

Tonight will have a Waining Gibbous ๐ŸŒ– Moon with 95% illuminated. The moon will rise at 8:39 pm. The Harvest ๐ŸŒฝ Moon is on Saturday, September 16. The darkest hour is at 12:59 am, followed by dawn at 5:52 am, and sun starting to rise at 6:22 am in the east-northeast (78ยฐ) and last for 3 minutes Sunrise is one minute and 7 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ The golden hour ends at 7:00 am with sun in the east (84ยฐ). Tonight will have 10 hours and 45 minutes of darkness, an increase of 2 minutes and 52 seconds over last night.

It always seems the early sunset ๐ŸŒ‡ happens so quickly. I was out riding this evening ๐Ÿšต and knew I had to turn back a little after 7:30 pm knowing that it would get dark early. Always happens this way come September.

Tomorrow will be mostly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 73 degrees at 3pm. Six degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around September 19th. Maximum dew point of 54 at 10am. Southwest wind 5 to 10 mph. A year ago, we had cloudy skies in the morning with more sun in the afternoon. The high last year was 80 degrees. The record high of 100 was set in 1953.

Cooler than I expected ๐Ÿ‚ but then it’s September and I’m in the Adirondacks. I had thought about paddling Indian Lake or Lewey Lake and doing a night hike up Watch Hill to see Snowy Mountain lit up but that would be a very late night by the time I was back to camp. Those lakes might be choppy with the wind too. Maybe an evening in Spectulator would be better after an afternoon paddling the Sacandaga River down to the Kunjamunk ๐Ÿ›ถ then a bike ride along NY 8 over to Lake Pleasant.

In four weeks on September 29 the sun will be setting in the west (268ยฐ) at 6:44 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 50 minutes and 46 seconds earlier then today. In 2022 on that day, we had partly sunny and temperatures between 62 and 46 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 69 and 47 degrees. The record high of 86 degrees was set back in 1921.

Looking ahead, Autumn ๐Ÿ‚ is in 3 weeks, October ๐ŸŽƒ is a month away, Average High is 55 ๐Ÿ‚ is in 2 months, November ๐Ÿฅง is in 2 months, Buy Nothing Day ๐Ÿ›๏ธ is in 12 weeks, December ๐ŸŽ„ is in 3 months, Bill of Rights Day ๐Ÿ“œ is in 15 weeks and Days are Getting Longer โ˜€๏ธ is in 16 weeks.

Soon summer will be a memory
