A bit of a chilly start to a nice Tuesday ahead πŸͺŸ

I concede that it doesn’t help that I left at least some of my windows open last night and all of them are open now for the fresh air.

Good morning! Happy Tuesday. Sunny and 35 degrees in Delmar, NY. 🌞 There is a south-southeast breeze at 5 mph. πŸƒ. Temperatures will drop below freezing at Thursday around 2 am. β˜ƒοΈ

Johnny cakes are with broccoli and onion πŸ§… this morning topped with Greek yogurt. A very filling breakfast for sure. Had a banana 🍌 and some coffee β˜•. Nice sunny 🌞 morning, looking forward to riding to work. 🚲

Today will be sunny 🌞, with a high of 66 degrees at 3pm. Three degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around April 29th. South wind 5 to 15 mph. The record high of 87 was set in 2007. 2.4 inches of snow fell back in 1956.❄

Caught another mouse last night πŸͺ€, this time not the big sucker of last time. 🐁 Since the neighbor moved out and they’ve been renovating the unit next door πŸšͺ been catching more mice. That mouse zapper trap remains awesome as it’s so easy to use time and time again. Easy to clean and rarely do mice eat the bait before getting zapped. Then you just dump them out.

Solar noon 🌞 is at 12:54 pm with sun having an altitude of 60.1Β° from the due south horizon (-10.7Β° vs. 6/21). The golden hour πŸ… starts at 7:09 pm with the sun in the west-northwest (282Β°). πŸ“Έ The sunset is in the west-northwest (288Β°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 7:47 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 3 seconds with dusk around 8:16 pm, which is one minute and 9 seconds later than yesterday. πŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the Full 🌝 Moon in the east-southeast (116Β°) at an altitude of 5Β° from the horizon, 248,349 miles away. πŸš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 8:54 pm. Got the basics at Hannaford yesterday, πŸ›’ you know onions, broccoli, πŸ₯¦ and frozen fruit. πŸ“ In the morning I got bananas 🍌 and apples 🍏 to eat at work. It’s nice being able to stop on the way home when I bike commute. I guess that’s a convience I miss by busing it to work. Made a quick stir fry 🍳 when I got home last night and then went to the Town Park 🏞 for a walk and to read πŸ“– for a while. Ebooks are great, free from the library.

Tonight will have a chance of showers, mainly after 3am. Increasing clouds 🌧, with a low of 44 degrees at 6am. Four degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around May 3rd. South wind 11 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 26 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. In 2023, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 38 degrees. The record low of 25 occurred back in 1965.

One of the great things about being able to computer program πŸ–₯ is when the programs they give you at work aren’t working properly you can code your own. That is really handy. Been so busy at work lately but maybe it’s because I’m always coding and working on improving processing at work. But I love the job 😍 and always want to be improving things. Already got to run the label πŸ”– job for the May birthday πŸŽ‚ mailer today. How fast the month comes and goes. I think that means today is a pay day too.

The weekend doesn’t look half bad. β˜€ I’ll have to figure out something fun for Saturday. Probably not camping this weekend as I did it last. Saturday, partly sunny, with a high near 61. Maximum dew point of 41 at 7pm. Sunday, mostly cloudy, with a high near 73. Maximum dew point oyvf 57 at 3pm. Typical average high for the weekend is 65 degrees.

Hump Day starting out nice πŸͺ

Sunny and not too cold for mid April but so far no real warm weather. Those days most certainly though are coming.

Good morning! What day is it? Hump Day, of course. But as they say, the nice weather is not expected to last. Mostly sunny and 43 degrees in Delmar. β˜€ There is a north breeze at 7 mph. πŸƒ

French toast this morning πŸ₯–, slicing off some slices of the homemade bread I made last week that was getting stale. Not bad topped with strawberries πŸ“ and honey 🍯. Dinner last night was fried zucchini πŸ† with sweet onions πŸ§…, riding home last night I picked up some more.

When I was cooking this morning 🍳I apparently startled a mouse 🐁 which proceeded to jump from the counter to the hot stove and then across the room in the air. Apparently the electric mouse zappers didn’t get him as I ignored the mouse captured blinking light on it last night. πŸͺ€A mouse trap don’t work if it’s full.

Today will have increasing clouds β˜€ πŸ‘‰ ☁, with a high of 64 degrees at 3pm. Four degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around April 25th. The record high of 91 was set in 2002. 0.3 inches of snow fell back in 1965.❄

Should be a beautiful day for riding in 🚲 but depending if it rains β˜” I might have to bus 🚍 it home. So be it. Still good exercise. πŸ’ͺ🏻 Yesterday it was nice reading πŸ“– down at the park. 🏞

Solar noon 🌞 is at 12:55 pm with sun having an altitude of 58.1Β° from the due south horizon (-12.8Β° vs. 6/21). Today will have 13 hours and 33 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 43 seconds over yesterday.

They’re continuing to gut the apartment next door and tore up part of the slab. πŸ‘·Quite the construction 🚧 project, they’re must have been a lot wrong with the physical plant of the unit next door, probably this explains why my apartment is always wet and the bathtub never properly drains. 🚿 Or the mold issues. Who knows if the fixes next door will also improve my unit as a side effect. I can hope.

Tonight will have showers likely, mainly after 10pm. Cloudy 🌧, with a low of 45 degrees at 6am. Seven degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around May 5th. Southeast wind 8 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible. In 2023, we had cloudy skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 38 degrees. The record low of 21 occurred back in 1948.

Cool this weekend with temperatures running 6 degrees below normal but otherwise sunny. πŸ˜ƒ Saturday, partly sunny, with a high near 58. Breezy. Sunday, mostly sunny, with a high near 55. Typical average high for the weekend is 62 degrees.

Still not sure what my weekend plans are going to be 🌲 in part because it’s going to rain on Friday evening and I’m thinking in a few weeks it would be nice to go out to Schoharie County and do a spring time ride along the Catskill Scenic Trail rather than do it this weekend. I do want to camp β›Ί maybe just a quick overnight but it’s probably too cold to do a hammock camp just up in the woods. I thought about heading back to the Adirondacks but it’s a pretty good trip to just head there for the weekend.

Looking ahead, there are 2 weeks until May πŸ•Š when the sun will be setting at 7:57 pm with dusk at 8:26 pm. On that day in 2023, we had rain and temperatures between 59 and 45 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 66 degrees. We hit a record high of 86 back in 2001.

Winding Road

Going to be a nice late winter Tuesday with ample sun but the wind sticks around β˜€

At least I have power this morning and it’s not like I’m showering in the pitch black like yesterday. The windows are open as I like the fresh air, even if it’s cold out. Plus I burnt some crap on the stove this morning and it was a smoking.

Good morning! Happy Tuesday. Sunny and 34 degrees in Delmar, NY. 🌞 There is a west breeze at 8 mph. πŸƒ. There is a dusting of snow on the ground. β˜ƒ Temperatures will drop below freezing at around 5 am. β˜ƒοΈ

Going to be such a nice day I plan to leave early 🚲 and ride in via the longer way using the Menands exit off the Mohawk Hudson Bike Trail. Mornings are dark currently with the time change but we gain back that daylight quickly. πŸ’‘ Things are much brighter this morning though with the power back on. πŸ”Œ

Today will be sunny 🌞, with a high of 59 degrees at 4pm. 15 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around April 14th. Northwest wind 7 to 14 mph, with gusts as high as 24 mph. Less windy though then yesterday. A year ago, we had cloudy skies. The high last year was 46 degrees. The record high of 69 was set in 2012. 30.4 inches of snow fell back in 1888.❄ That’s a lot of snow. But then again, last week if it had been colder and not an El Nino year, we probably would have gotten a ton of snow.

It was great being able to ride home, with the extra hour of sunlight. πŸŒ† We’ve gained a lot of time in evening in recent weeks, but the time change ⏲ really was a game changer in the evening when it comes to sunlight. If it wasn’t so dang cold and windy last night, I would have totally enjoyed an evening walk in the daylight, or maybe even going down to the park.

Solar noon 🌞 is at 1:06 pm with sun having an altitude of 44.3° from the due south horizon (-26.5° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 6.1 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. Tomorrow will have 11 hours and 53 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 54 seconds over today.

I am continuing to read, How to plan, contract, and build your own home. 🏠 I am not super interested in the section about what people want in the latest big suburbanite home, but I am quite interested in the permitting and contracting section, along with learning some of the basics of building construction. πŸ‘·‍♀️ While there are experts out there you can hire to swing a hammer, I want to make sure I’m getting a fair deal, 🀝 that things will get signed off by town officials βœ… and that I’m able to build and live the way I want. I may have to pass up on a parcel or two that I love because I’m taking my time, ❀️ or pay a few months extra in rent, but I want to do what will work well for the next 20 years of my life through retirement and maybe beyond.

Tonight will have increasing clouds ☁, with a low of 35 degrees at 3am. 10 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around April 10th. Northwest wind 5 to 7 mph becoming calm in the evening. I can probably leave at least some of the windows open tonight. In 2023, we had cloudy skies in the evening, which became light rain by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 33 degrees. The record low of -6 occurred back in 1885.

Today in 1933, was the first of President Franklin D. Roosevelt’s fireside chats. πŸ“» He really mastered the communication methods of the time when he was running for president. A lot of homes had radios by the thirties. It’s funny though I listen to a fair bit of audio and even radio programs these days it’s either streaming or podcasts. Radio is still good when you are in the Adirondacks though without cell phone reception πŸ“Ά but there are a fewer and fewer places like that.

Weekend will be mild but it’s sliding in the wrong direction. 😞 Saturday, mostly cloudy, with a high near 51. Sunday, a chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 53. Chance of precipitation is 50%. Typical average high for the weekend is 45 degrees.

Looking ahead, next Tuesday is Last Day of Winter πŸ‚ when the sun will be setting at 7:08 pm with dusk at 7:35 pm. On that day in 2023, we had partly sunny, snow showers and temperatures between 33 and 22 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 46 degrees. We hit a record high of 78 back in 2012. I’m not sad about that but I bet March is going to end colder then certainly 2012.

Not a Real Fan of Thacher Park

For many years I would never go to John Boyd Thacher State Park. I never really liked the place — I thought it was too developed — too surbanized — too packed the gills with obnoxious people. Not a place to go for relaxation or scenic views but to be run over by joggers and bicyclists while taking in the view or doing nature study.

My hatred of John Boyd Thacher Park wore off over the years.
First in 2003, I started go occasionally to the back part of the park off of Beaver Dam Road after my college class let out for the day — usually once a week. It was nice going back there, especially around the ski hill inΒ  the evening, as you would never see to many people back there. Mostly undeveloped, wandering around the cleared paths in the brushy woods that were full of wildlife.

Then I “rediscovered” the OSI parcel, which is some “wild” lands to the north of the park. Especially on weekdays, and to certain extend on the weekends this area is quite nice, quite and wild. Most of the surburbanites in their SUVs avoid this area for the developed parcels with the picinic tables and rails to discouage them from heading to close toΒ  the edge. But the OSI parcel is a totally different experience.

While I like the OSI parcel with its views, if I have other choices I’ll go to other wild lands with even fewer restrictions. I don’t like how Thacher Park closes at dusk, you can’t go for moonlit walks or camp there like on state forests. There just seems to be so many restrictions compared to other wild lands around to explore.

Not the nicest autumn weekend ever πŸ‚

That said it’s officially autumn however you want to slice it. Summer is just history and in a day or two it will be more night than day. My mind is totally on West Virginia and the Mountain Laurel of Canaan Heights not that I’ve even taken off those days yet. Or even fully planned a vacation.

Good morning! Happy Saturday. Finally the Nature Bus 🚍 Day! Mostly cloudy and 50 degrees at the Delmar, NY. ☁ Calm wind. The skies will clear Monday around 5 am.

It’s kind of silly how much I love the Nature Bus 😍 as I could drive to Thacher Park myself and I have a parks pass for parking πŸ…Ώ but it’s fun as it enforces a schedule and doesn’t cost anything. πŸ’΅ Not going to be a really nice day but I don’t expect it to be a complete soaker either. Going to ride trail for a while 🚡 then probably hammock before catching the 3:30 back home. If it becomes a soaker there are pavilions and the Discovery Center with the nice porch and wifi to shelter under.

Today will have a slight chance of showers after 2pm. Cloudy 🌦, with a high of 63 degrees at 3pm. Nine degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around October 12th. Maximum dew point of 50 at 9am. Calm wind becoming northeast 5 to 7 mph in the morning. Chance of precipitation is 20%. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. The high last year was 59 degrees. The record high of 97 was set in 1895.

This morning I was up and cooking 🍳 around five like I often do. Two big baguettes πŸ₯– and chicken and veggies roasting down in the oven. Up top was onion, garlic, and zucchini cooking to be cooked with eggs πŸ₯š and fresh spinach before it goes bad. Used up the last two fresh tomotoes that I had. Nevertheless a good start to the morning. Made some walnut butter πŸ₯œ to spread on the fresh bread – so yummy πŸ˜‹. Then I did morning walk 🚢. I didn’t sleep great but I have been getting to bed early as it gets dark early.

Solar noon 🌞 is at 12:49 pm with sun having an altitude of 47.4Β° from the due south horizon (-23.4Β° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 5.5 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour πŸ… starts at 6:16 pm with the sun in the west (265Β°). πŸ“Έ The sunset is in the west (271Β°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 6:53 pm after setting for 2 minutes and 53 seconds with dusk around 7:19 pm, which is one minute and 47 seconds earlier than yesterday. πŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the Waxing Gibbous πŸŒ” Moon in the south (170Β°) at an altitude of 19Β° from the horizon, 228,989 miles away. πŸš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 7:54 pm. At sunset, look for rain 🌧 and temperatures around 62 degrees. The dew point will be 50 degrees. There will be a northeast breeze at 7 mph. Tomorrow will have 12 hours and 7 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 2 minutes and 52 seconds over today.

I think the evening will end in rain β˜”. But I have a delicious meal in the fridge ready to go 🍴 and I’ll probably work on the blog re-write. I want to phase in the new data structure for the blog this coming week and start up the ads to cover hosting costs. πŸ–₯ And then lights out πŸ’‘ early tonight again.

Tonight will have a chance of showers, mainly before 2am. Cloudy 🌧, with a low of 53 degrees at 5am. Four degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around September 16th. Maximum dew point of 50 at 6pm. North wind around 6 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. In 2022, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 41 degrees. The record low of 27 occurred back in 1963.

My blog got approved for Google Ad Sense. 🀬 I don’t love advertising and I’m going to use sparingly, but my hope is to generate about $30 a month from advertising primarily from the map pages, but also some of the archives and maybe the main feed but not right up top. I figure if I can make an average of $30 a month, a third will go to the tax man, then the $20 will cover hosting costs and maybe even cover a bus fare or something like that. I have the code ready to add the advertising to the blog, I am manually placing ads, not in the best positions but in ways that aren’t so obnoxious but do earn a bit in revenue, based on the high number of page views I get from my maps, especially in the summer. πŸ—Ί I figure it’s an incentive to get off my ass and make up more maps.

Looking ahead, there are 6 weeks until Daylight Savings Time Ends πŸ•’ when the sun will be setting at 5:46 pm with dusk at 6:14 pm. On that day in 2022, we had sunny, warm and temperatures between 71 and 46 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 54 degrees. We hit a record high of 76 back in 1994. Those days will be here before you know it.

Some Parts of the Rail Trail Follow Quite Closely to NY 30

A nice morning after a cool and windy weekend at Rennselearville State Forest πŸŒ€

It was nice to get away for two nights, only a quick trip from home. Not a lot of gas or costs which is good plus some great views, chances to ride and walk in the woods.

Good morning! Mostly sunny β˜€ and 52 degrees at the Rensselaerville State Forest. There is a west-northwest breeze at 8 mph. πŸƒ. The dew point is 49 degrees.

Nice morning today πŸŒ… but a bit chilly. But it’s the second half of September and I’m in the high country of Albany County so it’s to be expected. Didn’t run out of propane which became a concern yesterday when I noticed the tank was getting light and it’s been about ten nights in the woods since filling the tank on vacation, though many did not involve using the heater much.

Today will have increasing clouds β˜€ ➑ ☁, with a high of 65 degrees at 4pm. Nine degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around October 7th. Maximum dew point of 51 at 10am. West wind around 8 mph. A year ago, we had cloudy skies in the morning with more sun in the afternoon. The high last year was 72 degrees. The record high of 89 was set in 1942.

Taking camp β›Ί down relatively early πŸ•’ as I’m thinking about exploring Huyck Preserve 🐸 for a while before going to the folks house 🏑 early to pick apples 🍏 and Sunday dinner. πŸ πŸ— Going to be rain β˜” by evening and I don’t want to get home that late with the earlier sunsets.

Solar noon 🌞 is at 12:52 pm with sun having an altitude of 49.8Β° from the due south horizon (-21.1Β° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 5.1 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. Autumn is rapidly approaching. The golden hour πŸ… starts at 6:28 pm with the sun in the west (268Β°). πŸ“Έ The sunset is in the west (274Β°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 7:05 pm after setting for 2 minutes and 54 seconds with dusk around 7:31 pm, which is one minute and 47 seconds earlier than yesterday. πŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the Waxing Crescent πŸŒ’ Moon in the west-southwest (249Β°) at an altitude of 6Β° from the horizon, 244,955 miles away. πŸš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 8:07 pm. At sunset, look for rain 🌧 and temperatures around 60 degrees. The dew point will be 51 degrees. There will be a calm wind. Today will have 12 hours and 27 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 2 minutes and 51 seconds over yesterday.

Yesterday was a somewhat slow day and by midday I was a bit cold πŸ₯Ά so I retreated to my truck cap, took a nap and watched YouTube. πŸ“Ή Then the sun came out and warmed up a bit, wind which was roaring slowed and went for a ride to the Hillicross Parcel 🏞 then around some of the dirt roads and haul roads 🚲 at the State Forest. Then came back, fried up some potatoes, spinach, snap peas and salmon 🐠 then went for a hike through the woods to the hill overlooking Camp Cass. Came back had a nice fire πŸ”₯ until around ten. Very starry ✨ night, saw two shooting stars before retiring to bed around ten. With the breeze I kept the fire small as it was a rather sparky evening. Not worried about a grass fire but didn’t like all the sparks heading towards my truck for obvious reasons.

Tonight will have showers, mainly after 10pm. 🌧 Low of 53 degrees at 1am. One degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around September 19th. Maximum dew point of 53 at 1am. πŸ–οΈ Light and variable wind becoming east around 6 mph in the evening. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible. In 2022, we had partly cloudy skies. It became humid as the night progressed. It got down to 62 degrees. The record low of 35 occurred back in 1986.

I was hoping to get up to the Adirondacks next weekend for a long one, β›Ί but we’ll see with the weather. I doubt there is much color change yet πŸ‚ and as of now the long range for next weekend isn’t all that great. But September weekends are rapidly expiring and October is quickly coming. As of now I’m thinking of possibly taking a week the third week of October but things could change.

Looking ahead, there are 2 weeks until October πŸŽƒ when the sun will be setting at 6:40 pm with dusk at 7:07 pm. Happens so quickly. On that day in 2022, we had partly sunny and temperatures between 69 and 46 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 68 degrees. We hit a record high of 90 back in 1927.

A Fall Reflection Seen from Wakely Dam

Saturday at Thacher Park with Blackie 🚡

That’s the plan for today after the morning walk. Shower, finish cooking some brown rice and lentils up head out to the Nature Bus around 9:20, be to Thacher Park by 9:50. Then whatever until 6:20.

Good morning! Happy Saturday. A little cooler for the weekend! Mostly cloudy β›… and 68 degrees in Delmar for the morning walk 🚢 pm this Saturday morning. Calm wind. The dew point is 64 degrees. Not going to be a real nice weekend, the skies will clear Monday around 4 pm.

Lots of people out walking 🚢 and riding this morning but it’s already gotten hot and sticky. Hopefully it will be cooler when I get up to Thacher State Park 🏞 up on the hill. Otherwise I figure I can just relax on the hammock with a good book. πŸ“– No real plans for today besides just hanging out at Thacher Park. That and bake the bread I have rising today. Decided to do whole wheat bread with a kneaded recipe this time – still just the simple whole wheat, water, yeast and a bit of salt. Next week looks to be cool and may be an excellent week to use up a bunch of fresh and frozen vegetables in the freezer for soup. πŸ₯£
