June 20, 2021 Evening

Good evening! Partly clear and 82 degrees in Delmar, NY. There is a south breeze at 8 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 62 degrees. Back home again, as John Denver once sung. ๐ŸŽถ Remarkably hot, especially now that I am back home after having a nice Sunday dinner at the folks house. ๐Ÿ‘• Slowly unpacking my gear from camping, taking steps to drink and cool down.

Well, happy summer folks. โ˜บ The next ten weeks through Labor Day Weekend are considered real summer when the state parks pools are open and the days are relatively long. ๐Ÿ– Nice hot summer days to spend at the pool or swimming hole. ๐ŸŠ๐Ÿป‍โ™‚๏ธ Do some fishing ๐ŸŽฃ late into the night.

It was a beautiful trip back across the Mohawk Valley and through the Schoharie Valley. Everything was very green and lush.  It was a nice weekend up north, although Friday night was very wet. โ˜” It drizzled for a while and then when I went for a good walk up to the Potholers it poured and I got completely soaked. ๐Ÿ’ฆ It was decent all three days up north although I have to say that today was the best of the week. That said, much too short. ๐Ÿ‡ Time flies, especially when it’s rare that I am not out of town for four or more nights, in the era of remote work. But I decided I should come home tonight, because I need to at minimum move to a new campsite.

It was three nights up in the wilderness, ๐Ÿ• camping up at House Pond, spending much of Friday during the day drinking, ๐Ÿบ reading, ๐Ÿ“• writing, โœ and hanging down at the Swimming Hole by the House Pond Campsite. ๐ŸŠ‍โ™€๏ธ It was nice but the water was a bit cold to say the least. ๐Ÿ›ถ Saturday, was kayaking from Stewart Landing up to Lily Lake. I didn’t go much into West Lake because I wanted to be close to back to Stewart Landing by 2 pm as they were threatening severe storms by afternoon, which never materialized. Instead, I spent the evening reading, and then down at the same swimming hole on the East Canada Creek. ๐ŸŠ‍โ™€๏ธ Most of Sunday was spent slowly taking down camp after a nice breakfast ๐Ÿฅž then the majority of the day the Potholers. I forgot how much nicer the Potholers are with the flowing water and potholes compared to any ordinary swimming hole on a nice summer day. It’s good to be back there!

Tonight will be mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฅ, with a low of 69 degrees at 5am. 10 degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 66 at 3am. South wind around 8 mph. Probably need the fan on all evening. In 2020, we had mostly clear skies. It was somewhat humid. It got down to 69 degrees. The record low of 41 occurred back in 1970.

I thought about staying over the folks house, ๐Ÿ‘ช but I was tired and wanted to get home. It has been a nice weekend, but alas I should get ready for the work week and get my camping gear put away. I also want to get the volt meter out before dark, and try to figure out why the relay isn’t closing between the starting and accessory batteries when the engine is on or the solar is outputting enough to top off both batteries. ๐Ÿ”‹ That was annoying that wasn’t working this weekend.

Tonight will have a Waxing Gibbous ๐ŸŒ” Moon with 81% illuminated. At 7 PM, the moon was in the southeast (139°) at an altitude of 26° from the horizon, some 226,818 miles away from where you are looking up from the earth. ๐Ÿš€ At the state speed limit of 55 mph, you’ll make it there by December 9th. Buckle up for safety! ๐Ÿ’บ The Strawberry ๐Ÿ“ Moon is on Thursday, June 24. The darkest hour is at 12:58 am, followed by dawn at 4:43 am, and sun starting to rise at 5:18 am in the east-northeast (57°) and last for 3 minutes and 28 seconds. Sunrise is 11 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ The golden hour ends at 6:01 am with sun in the east-northeast (64°). Tonight will have 8 hours and 41 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 2 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will have a chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 4pm. Some of the storms could produce small hail, gusty winds, and heavy rain. Mostly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 89 degrees at 3pm. Eight degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 71 at 11am. South wind 10 to 17 mph, with gusts as high as 29 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. It was somewhat humid. The high last year was 92 degrees. The record high of 97 was set in 1938.

Friday turned out to be a very late start heading north. ๐Ÿš I decided not to drive downtown as I’m out of practice with parallel parking and I hate dealing with rush hour traffic. ๐Ÿš™ So I took the bus home and packed the coolers but ended up having to run to the grocery store to get all the things I didn’t previously pack. But at least the nights are long, and I had plenty of time to get set up, gather some firewood ๐Ÿ”ฅ and get things going.

The relay that connects the alternator – starting battery ๐Ÿ”‹ to the accessory batteries quit working on the way up to camp. Not sure if it’s the exciter wire that broke or the relay is seized. It was fine, I had lots of sun โ˜€ for the solar so all was good. I stopped on Friday to try to get figure out the issue but nothing obvious. I’ll test this evening or tomorrow with the volt meter. โšก It’s possible that the big old can relay failed from the occasional clatter of the relay when clouds appear on a sunny day, although I think I have mostly arrested that by adjusting settings on the voltage control. I am betting the wire is just broken.

In four weeks on July 18 the sun will be setting in the west-northwest (300°) at 8:29 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 7 minutes and 24 seconds earlier then today. In 2020 on that day, we had hot and sunny weather with shallow fog in the morning and temperatures between 87 and 59 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 84 and 63 degrees. The record high of 100 degrees was set back in 1953.

By then, I hope to be on my summer vacation. ๐Ÿ˜Ž I am thinking the Finger Lakes National Forest and the state parks circuit I normally do, finding new places to hike or explore. I kind of like that campsite I stayed at last year without cell service, because I find do a lot more reading and thinking if I’m camping somewhere without cell service, ๐Ÿคซ the quiet with no Facebook quite nice. ๐Ÿ“ฑ I admit I am a bit of social media addict, even if my own postings to social media are a bit more asinine as I hate all the creepy commercial advertising that follows you around the internet, especially the green schemes.

Looking ahead, Independence Day ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ is Next Sunday, World Population Day ๐Ÿ‘ฉ‍๐Ÿ‘ฉ‍๐Ÿ‘ง‍๐Ÿ‘ง is in 3 weeks, Ugly Truck Day ๐Ÿšš is a month away, August ๐ŸŒป is in 6 weeks, Buck Moon ๐ŸŒ• is in 9 weeks, Halloween ๐ŸŽƒ is in 19 weeks, Average High is 50 ๐Ÿ‚ is in 21 weeks, Regular Deer Season in Southern Zone ๐ŸฆŒ is in 5 months, Repeal of Prohibition Day ๐Ÿบ is in 24 weeks, Cold Moon ๐ŸŒ• is in 26 weeks and Boxing Day ๐ŸฅŠ is in 27 weeks.

 Yesterday On Lake Pleasant

June 4, 2021 Morning

Good morning! Happy Friday! Up in the Adirondacks for a few days of camping and remote work ๐Ÿ’ป while Albany bakes in the heat wave, although I do have to be in Albany come Wednesday and maybe sooner depending on how things go. Six weeks to Last Sunset After 8:30 PM ๐ŸŒ†. Partly cloudy and 62 degrees in Speculator, NY. โ›… There is a west breeze at 5 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 57 degrees. While it was raining โ˜” when I left Albany it is super nice here, maybe a bit cold with the lake breeze there is a lot of sun and it’s quite nice up north. I kind of wish I brought my kayak ๐Ÿ›ถ but that gets difficult with remote work and needing sunshine to make solar energy so I can stay cool and my laptop charged.

Today will have a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2pm. ๐ŸŒฉ It’s called summer. Mostly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 76 degrees at 3pm. Typical for today. Maximum dew point of 57 at 9am. Southwest wind around 6 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 90 degrees. The record high of 97 was set in 1919. Probably not that warm in Spectulator, as that’s the Albany record.

I am planning to camp somewhere in the Greater Spectulator-area for the weekend, and then decide how long next week to stay up north. ๐Ÿ• The thing is on my remote days, it’s a lot cooler to work from the woods, but I will need to be back next week by Wednesday for my in-person days in the office. I figure it’s best to maximize remote work until we have to be back in the office more days of the week. Next week I have my therapy session ๐Ÿ‘จ‍โš•๏ธ but the following week I will either go out Schoharie County or the Potholers if it’s nice, as it’s a three-day weekend with the new Juneteenth Holiday. If I do the Potholers, then I will definately want to bring the kayak, for either the East Branch or Lily Lake. By then maybe lillies will be out?

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:57 pm with sun having an altitude of 69° from the due south horizon (-1° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 2.3 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 7:52 pm with the sun in the west-northwest (296°). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-northwest (303°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 8:35 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 29 seconds with dusk around 9:09 pm, which is 45 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 9:55 pm. At sunset, look for partly clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 69 degrees. The dew point will be 54 degrees. There will be a west breeze at 5 mph. Today will have 15 hours and 16 minutes of daytime, an increase of one minute and 8 seconds over yesterday.

My fishing license is expired but I plan to renew it today, ๐ŸŽฃ so I can do some fishing tomorrow. I don’t have my kayak and it’s a few weeks before bass season opens up, but based on the number of anglers there was in Wells this morning, I probably should go down there to fish. That said, I am a bit tethered to Spectulator as I need I need to have good cell service and wi-fi to work, especially if I decide to stay up this way for the first half of next week.

Tonight will have a chance of showers and thunderstorms before 7pm. Patchy fog after 2am. Otherwise, partly cloudy , with a low of 55 degrees at 4am. One degree above normal, which is similar to a typical night around June 6th. Maximum dew point of 57 at 2am. West wind around 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. In 2020, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became partly cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It became humid as the night progressed. It got down to 71 degrees. The record low of 39 occurred back in 1990.

Tomorrow will have patchy fog before 7am. Otherwise, mostly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 80 degrees at 1pm. Three degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around June 16th. Maximum dew point of 61 at 1pm. Southwest wind 8 to 14 mph, with gusts as high as 24 mph. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 85 degrees. The record high of 97 was set in 1925.

Looking ahead to Sunday, mostly sunny, with a high near 83. West wind around 9 mph. Maximum dew point of 61 at 8am. Typical average high for the weekend is 77 degrees.

One month ๐Ÿ“… from now will be Independence Day ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ when the sun will be setting at 8:41 pm with dusk at 9:16 pm. The average high temperature is 76 degrees, with a record high of 97 in 1919.

Big Alderbed Mountain

September 19, 2019 Night

Good evening! Clear and 57 degrees in Delmar, NY. Calm wind. The dew point is 45 degrees.

I made up fish ๐Ÿ  sticks and went for my evening walk. ๐Ÿšถ Definitely getting darker earlier but I do prefer now to do m walk earlier. This way when I procrastinate I don’t miss my walk. Plus doing the walk past the high school ๐Ÿšธ during the winter months at nine o’clock is pretty desolate. I’ve heard they’ve had a lot of problems with muggings again in the city and who knows if they could spill out into the suburbs.

I got to Walmart to get the supplies I needed plus food for the weekend ๐Ÿฒ and gased up Big Red. Finally got new boots, ๐Ÿ‘ข my old ones were in really rough shape. I’ll old pack tomorrow and get things ready as I have to leave by 7:30 AM on Saturday for the Save the Pine Bush Bird ๐Ÿฆ Hike. After that I’ll probably paddle along Lily Lake and camp up at Pisceo-Powley Road for one last time this year and check out the Potholers on Sunday. ๐ŸŠ Going to be remarkably warm this weekend but I bet with these cold nights the water temperatures have fallen dramatically. Maybe they’ll also be some good color up north.

Tonight will be mostly clear ๐ŸŒƒ, with a low of 44 degrees at 6am. Six degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around October 3rd. Calm wind. Going to be another cold night. I probably should close the windows but I’m not willing to give up on the fresh air for this year. It might be chilly when I climb out of bed but I have hot coffee and will shower ๐Ÿšฟ when I awake. Need to get used to the cold for autumn camping โ›บ and hunting season. In 2018, we had cloudy skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 58 degrees. The record low of 30 occurred back in 1979.

Tonight will have a Waning Gibbous Moon ๐ŸŒ– with 60% illuminated. The moon will set at 12:49 am. The Last Quarter Moon will be tomorrow with partly cloudy skies. The Hunter Moon ๐ŸŒ is on Saturday, October 12th. Nice, while I’m on vacation. The sun will rise at 6:39 am with the first light at 6:11 am, which is one minute and 5 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ Tonight will have 11 hours and 41 minutes of darkness, an increase of 2 minutes and 51 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will have patchy dense fog before 8am. ๐ŸŒ Otherwise, sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 76 degrees at 3pm. Five degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around September 7th. Maximum dew point of 49 at 6pm. Calm wind becoming northwest around 5 mph in the afternoon. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 72 degrees. The record high of 90 was set in 1946.

I am trying to carefully plan out my autumn trip this year so it’s not so disorganized as two years ago. ๐Ÿ‚2017 was a tough year with my parents health, they had a lot of issues so my October Trip to West Virginia wasn’t very well planned but it worked out fine. It just didn’t involve seeing a lot of new places and the places I saw – namely that Ohiopyle State Park was underwhelming. But I’m more of a wilderness camper.โ›บ I think this year I want to see Hyner View in Pennsylvania during the autumn and hopefully the leaves will still be on the trees up in Cannan Heights and the Black River Falls area and some good colors when I drive up Spruce Mountain the highest peak in the Mountain State. ๐Ÿ—ป Driving down to New River Gorge should be really interesting and give me a chance to see more of the mountain state, including parts of Southern West Virginia which are supposedly much more southern in culture.

In four weeks on October 17 the sun will be setting at 6:10 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 48 minutes and 14 seconds earlier then tonight. In 2018 on that day, we had mostly sunny, rain showers and temperatures between 57 and 39 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 59 and 39 degrees. The record high of 85 degrees was set back in 1947.

Looking ahead, Northern Zone Regular Season ๐ŸฆŒ is a month away, Halloween ๐Ÿ›ฅ๏ธ is in 6 weeks, Thanksgiving ๐Ÿฆƒ is in 10 weeks, Repeal of Prohibition Day ๐Ÿบ is in 11 weeks, Boxing Day ๐ŸฅŠ is in 14 weeks, National Cheese Lovers Day ๐Ÿง€ is in 18 weeks and National Pie Day ๐Ÿฐ is in 4 months.

Farm Tractor

July 31, 2019 Morning

Good morning! Happy Teeth Cleaning Day ๐Ÿ˜ƒ! I found out for the first time ever I have a cavity in my tooth and I’m getting a filling next Monday. That’s no fun. Two weeks to Altamont Fair Opens ๐ŸŽก. Cloudy and 76 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜ Calm wind. The dew point is 69 degrees. The skies will clear around 10 pm.

So the good news or the bad news first? ๐Ÿ“ฐ Well, I guess the bad news. I have a cavity in one of my rear teeth and I’m going to have to get a filling on Monday. I guess that’s part of getting old. I didn’t go to the dentist for ten years and didn’t have any problems but over the past two years I’ve been doing regular cleaning.๐Ÿ˜ I thought it was all the milk I drank ๐Ÿฎ, two gallons a week plus eating fruit instead of sweets most of the time at home although I admit that I drank a lot of beer ๐Ÿป and didn’t brush a lot up at camp. But I guess I should get it filled so that’s what I’m doing. I heard that’s not fully covered by insurance but I guess health expenses are legitimate. I also got a flouride treatment, which I don’t know if it was worth the $49 but maybe it will prevent problems down the road. At least even after vacation and other expenses I should have sufficient money to cover it in checking. ๐Ÿ’ต

The good news is $13 later and a half hour of my time โŒš my low beam – daytime running headlight bulb ๐Ÿ’ก is working again. I can’t figure out what failed in the bulb, it doesn’t look burnt out or cracked when I pulled it from the truck but as soon as I plugged in the new bulb it’s working. Pulling the front accessory battery wasn’t a big deal ๐Ÿ”‹ even if it’s a bit heavy lift and I always have to worry about touching the positive post against the body. I’m tempted to hook the bulb to my bench power supply at home to see if it lights or passes current. And I’ll be careful about putting it in the burnable trash, the last one I tossed exploded when I was up at camp. ๐Ÿ”ฅ

I am making progress on the Pine Bush project ๐ŸŒฒI am working on. I wrote a program to convert tax rolls into data I can query in my GIS program. Besides for that I think I can make some interesting maps of assessed property values and other data.๐ŸŒ

Today will have a chance of showers and thunderstorms before 2pm, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm between 2pm and 4pm, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 4pm. Some of the storms could produce gusty winds and heavy rain. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a high of 82 degrees at 2pm. Typical for today. Maximum dew point of 69 at 10am. West wind 3 to 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. It was somewhat humid. The high last year was 86 degrees. The record high of 98 was set in 1917.

The sun will set at 8:16 pm with dusk around 8:48 pm, which is one minute and 8 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At sunset, look for clouds ๐ŸŒง with a chance thunderstorms ๐ŸŒฉ and temperatures around 75 degrees. The dew point will be 68 degrees. There will be a calm wind. Today will have 14 hours and 29 minutes of daytime, an decreaseof 2 minutes and 10 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will have a chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly before 9pm. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒค, with a low of 64 degrees at 4am. Two degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 68 at 6pm. West wind 3 to 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. In 2018, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became light rain by the early hours of the morning. It became very sticky as the night progressed. It got down to 70 degrees. The record low of 46 occurred back in 1964.

A hot and humid summer weekend is on tap. ๐Ÿ˜Ž Saturday, a chance of showers and thunderstorms after noon. Mostly sunny, with a high near 85. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Maximum dew point of 63 at 5pm. Sunday, mostly sunny, with a high near 83. Maximum dew point of 61 at 6am. Typical average high for the weekend is 82 degrees.

I am still thinking about heading up to Piesco Powley Road this weekend and the Potholers. โ›บ I might once again paddle lily lake as that’s an easy thing to do Saturday or maybe I could go down to Little Falls and paddle on the Mohawk. ๐Ÿšค

As previously noted, there are 2 weeks until Altamont Fair Opens ๐ŸŽก when the sun will be setting at 7:58 pm with dusk at 8:28 pm. On that day in 2018, it was humid, with partly sunny skies, rain showers and temperatures between 85 and 71 degrees. โ˜€ Typically, the high temperature is 81 degrees. We hit a record high of 97 back in 1988.

East Sidney Reservoir

June 17, 2019 Morning

Good morning! Final week of the Legislative Session. Or so I’m hoping. Sitting downtown at a railway station ๐Ÿš‰ one toke over the line. Or so goes the Brewer and Shipley song on the radio. Next Monday is Latest Sunset of the Year ๐ŸŒ†. About a half week after the first day of summer, due to the shifting transit of the sun. Now if the sun ever came out, we could enjoy that more. Maybe today. Partly sunny and 68 degrees in Delmar, NY. Calm wind. The dew point is 57 degrees. Going to a nice day.

Feeling fairly decent this morning, ๐Ÿ˜€ only with a minor headache that isn’t bothering me too much. DIdn’t feel all that great after going to see my parents house, but then I went home and got to bed fairly early. I was originally planning to spend the night at my parents house in the camper shell, but it was kind of rainy, wet evening, so I decided to go home. ๐Ÿ‘” I think it was a good thing though, because it gave me time last night to get my shirts hung up, and clothes put away before this most busy of weeks at work. I am just allergic to Mondays, or so I think. I did clean up the mildew in the bathroom, especially in the tub, ๐Ÿ›€ so hopefully that will help.

Today will be mostly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 79 degrees at 4pm. Nice weather, with temperatures typical for today. Maximum dew point of 57 at 8am. Low humidity, nice. Calm wind becoming north around 5 mph. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 90 degrees. Much hotter. The record high of 94 was set in 1994.

I fully expect a long day at work. I packed lunch and dinner, and hopefully I will be able to find room in one of multiple mini-refigerators that have in the office to make up for the big dead one. ๐Ÿ—๐ŸŒฏ๐Ÿ˜‹ I am guessing I will be taking the 9:45 or 10:30 bus home tonight, ๐ŸšŒ but the nice thing about the bus, is even if I’m in a daze and tired, I don’t have to worry about the traffic lights or hitting something. Plus, I think most of the drivers know my stop, and I’ll set the alarm on the phone for 5 minutes before I expect to need to get off the bus. I’m going to take each day by day this morning, and only get my truck in evening if I expect to be released between 11:30 PM and 6 AM — which seems unlikely.

The sun will set at 8:35 pm with dusk around 9:10 pm, which is 21 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At sunset, look for partly clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 72 degrees. The dew point will be 56 degrees. There will be a calm wind. Today will have 15 hours and 18 minutes of daytime, an increase of 15 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will have isolated showers after 11pm. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 59 degrees at 4am. Two degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around June 22nd. Maximum dew point of 56 at 7pm. Calm wind. Chance of precipitation is 20%. In 2018, we had mostly clear skies. It became sticky as the night progressed. It got down to 71 degrees. The record low of 39 occurred back in 1958.

Looks like a really nice weekend. Two options are on the short list for the weekend. โ›บ My preferred option would be to leave after work on Friday for Piseco Powley Road, paddle Lily Lake from Stewart Landing, see the Lilies ๐ŸŒธ, have a nice fire ๐Ÿ”ฅ and maybe do the Potholers on Sunday. I also want to hike back to Dexter Lake but I doubt I’ll be able to do that in a weekend. It would be nice to get back to the Adirondacks — the last time I was up in the area was in early May, and I would like to see Lily Lake before the lilies are gone, like happened last year.

But that all depends on how long the legislative session goes this week. ๐Ÿฏ If I’m at work until 3 AM on Friday I’m not going to drive up to the Adirondacks unless maybe they give us Friday off. I also need time to pack ๐Ÿ’ผ and pick up some supplies although I guess I could stop on my way out there. It’s possible but unlikely that Wednesday will be the very late night. Maybe things could go into Friday daytime but I doubt it. I am not going to kill myself to get up there on a lack of sleep ๐Ÿ˜ด with Friday traffic.

The alternative is a Schoharie County trip. ๐ŸŠ Mine Kill pool opens Saturday so I could hike the trails around there, swim in the pool, โ›บ camp at Burnt Rossman, ๐Ÿšถ hike the Cliffs of Middleburgh or Vromans Nose, fish the Schoharie Creek ๐Ÿ  and swim again. That could be nice alternative. I always like to do a few Schoharie County trips during the summer weekends, especially once that sweet corn is out. But I could get some strawberries ๐Ÿ“ and maybe tomatoes ๐Ÿ… are Boriengers this weekend. If that’s the option I’m stuck with, which really wouldn’t be bad but I’d prefer the Adirondacks.

Wiring projects are done on the truck. ๐Ÿ”‹I’m really interested to see how things preform with the additional battery, andย how much power I’m actually getting out of the solar panel in various conditions. With the clouds yesterday, I only have a total of 82 watt hours from the panel, but to be fair it was cloudy and rainy yesterday, and the solar controlled floated the batteries after I had driven a bit with the alternator doing most of the topping off. I was thinking I am pretty much done with wiring projects, but now I’m thinking about getting an MPPT solar controller. โ˜€ That would help with charging the batteries better in low light conditions, and they’ve certainly come down in price, even if a decent quality one — like the Renology Rover, which I found for sale as low as $80. But not right away, as it would require some moving around of components and cutting new wires, and I’m in no rush to do it, when my existing PWM controller works just fine, and may be more then suitable for all my needs. Plus $80 bucks is money spent today is money that can’t be saved for a future, when I have land and actual need for a real MPPT solar controller for my off-grid home.

It will be interesting to see what happens with marijuana this week. ๐Ÿšฌ For sure. I think it’s an interesting agriculture crop ๐ŸŒพ, especially after reading that article this weekend in the Buffalo News that I shared below about the possibility of home growing. Turns out it’s a pretty easy crop to grow in a backyard flower pot, which is not surprising as you sometimes find it growing in the woods. I think it could get people interested in gardening and agriculture, although I do think there are legitimate concerns about the smoke and odors of people burning it especially in urban areas. It really stinks and the odor lingers around — I can tell when people are smoking pot in the parking lot 100 feet from my place — or when somebody gets on the bus after smoking.๐Ÿ’จ Few things besides mucking a hog or dairy barn are as pungent in the air or on your clothes. ๐Ÿฝ

Hopefully with the majority of the nation’s population legalizing it we can see national action as that would make it easier for growers and avoid potential headaches for gun owners with the existing laws, although I’m not sure how they’d know if you bought legal pot or not. It might be a fun crop to grow in a pot or garden with other herbs and veggies ๐ŸŒฟ and cure when I own land, although I doubt I’d ever pay the high price for it commercially. ๐Ÿ’ฐ Maybe if I got it free at a reception or party, but I’m not going to spend $20 bucks for a hit of it at some fancy-pansy commercial place. I would never use it heavy, but maybe a few times a year, a hit or some pot brownies would be good, especially when I own my own land.๐Ÿฐ

On this day in 1972, Five White House operatives are arrested for burgling the offices of the Democratic National Committee,๐Ÿ‘ฎ in an attempt by some members of the Republican party to illegally wiretap their opposition. ๐Ÿ‘‚This would become the basis for the Watergate scandal. Then Tom Paxton wrote a fun song about it. Had they not burglarized the Watergate, Mr. Paxton would have had to write a different song. The DNC stuck there for decades after, but lately has moved to a newer shiny office building of their own.

As previously noted, next Monday is Latest Sunset ๐ŸŒ† when the sun will be setting at 8:37 pm with dusk at 9:12 pm. On that day in 2018, we had rain and temperatures between 76 and 61 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 80 degrees. We hit a record high of 96 back in 1943.
