Weather Update – November 17, 2021

Another fairly cool and cloudy day for this GIS Day. โ›…

Probably not going to be a good day for looking at satellite ๐Ÿ›ฐ photos though maybe Terra with its morning imagery will be relatively cloud free.

The morning was a bit nicer than it is now with the clouds โ˜๏ธ pushing in and the breeze picking up ๐Ÿšถ as I walk the Plaza but it is November and that’s to be expected. They’ve gotten a bit of snow ๐ŸŒจ in the mountains but not so much locally. Looks like it won’t be too much longer before the ice rink is open on the Plaza.

Saturday I will probably stay in town ๐Ÿฆ maybe walk out to Five Rivers Environmental Education Center for some bird watching. Lately though it seems like kind of a lull for birds as the seasons change.

Sunday morning I will be having the new tires put on my truck โšซ and then I’m going out to the folks house for Sunday lunch rather than dinner as I don’t like driving home in the dark. ๐Ÿฒ It’s just so difficult on those rural roads with so much traffic coming in the opposing direction. ๐Ÿš˜

Monday I am getting my truck inspected ๐Ÿ”ง so I will need to check the lights and replace any missing bulbs, but I don’t anticipate any problems once I have the new tires on.

A week from Thursday is Thanksgiving ๐Ÿฆƒ. I know the other day we were already discussing the holiday party at work, although I think it will be toned down this year due to the COVID-19.

Despite being vaccinated ๐Ÿ’‰ for some time now, I’m concerned about COVID, mainly because my friend who is an expert on such things and predicted how covid would play out over the past few years has been accurate and still is alarmed. โฐ I’ve thought about getting the booster – I’m either now or soon but I’m not sure it’s necessary. It’s not totally free in the sense that I don’t want to feel sick ๐Ÿคฎ for a day, and it seems like the initial shots are enough based on NYS Health Department research report ๐Ÿ“– I read.

November 20, 2020 Morning

Good morning! Yeah, it’s Friday! Next Friday is Buy Nothing Day ๐Ÿ›๏ธ. HASH TAG waste your money on stupid plastic stuff. ๐Ÿ’ธโ†”๏ธ๐Ÿ—‘ Clouds with some clearing and 44 degrees in Delmar, NY. ๐ŸŒฅ There is a south breeze at 9 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The current wind chill is 30. Temperatures will drop below freezing at Sunday around 1 am. โ˜ƒ๏ธ

Going one of the most pleasant Fridays in recent weeks. โ›… Lots of sun and mild. It’s good, the past few days have been cool and I’ve had the heat on, especially working from home. But today it will be off and maybe crack open a window or two for fresh air.

Took the first shower ๐Ÿšฟ since Sunday. Working from home I don’t find the need to bathe ๐Ÿ›€๐Ÿป nearly as regularly as I’m not getting dirty and nobody cares if you are unshaved or smelly when you are social distancing. ๐Ÿ‘ƒ๐Ÿป Plus it saves a lot of wash ๐Ÿ‘š and water ๐Ÿ’ฆ to wear the same clothes for multiple days.

A few rain drops ๐Ÿ’ง as I go for my morning walk. ๐Ÿšถ๐Ÿป But it’s reasonably warm to be walking for late November in a t-shirt ๐Ÿ‘• with my vest over it. The air has a slight tang of barnyard and manure on it ๐Ÿฎ, but it’s November in Upstate NY. The sun โ˜€ certainly feels nice but at 10 or 15 degrees from the horizon it can only put out so much warmth.

Today will be partly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 55 degrees at 2pm. Nine degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around October 29th. South wind 9 to 13 mph. A year ago, we had light snow in the morning, which became light drizzle by afternoon. The high last year was 37 degrees. The record high of 72 was set in 1991. 3.4 inches of snow fell back in 1961.โ„

I have a virtual meeting this afternoon ๐Ÿ“น which I’ll probably just walk down to the library or town park to do. I also want to download some of that MIT Election Lab data so I can play โ–ถ with that during down time this weekend. ๐Ÿ“š I also should look at getting some books out of the library to read in the evening and maybe work on some electronics projects now that the long winter is upon us. Nothing like breathing in some fumes from lead solder in one’s bedroom. ๐Ÿ”ฌ Says the boy ๐Ÿง’๐Ÿป whose burned his share of plastics over the years. ๐Ÿ”ฅ

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 11:42 am with sun having an altitude of 27.6ยฐ from the due south horizon (-43.3ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 11.5 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 3:47 pm with the sun in the southwest (236ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-southwest (244ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 4:30 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 14 seconds with dusk around 4:59 pm, which is 44 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the First Quarter ๐ŸŒ“ Moon in the south (180ยฐ) at an altitude of 27ยฐ from the horizon, 240,016 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 5:35 pm. At sunset, look for partly clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 54 degrees. There will be a south breeze at 9 mph. Tomorrow will have 9 hours and 32 minutes of daytime, a decrease of one minute and 54 seconds over today.

I am glad my state inspection ๐Ÿš˜ ๐Ÿ” is done and the new registration is on my truck. I always worry about it a lot, especially now that my tires are getting worn down. I drove only 6,700 miles since last year according to the odometer although that’s off by 13% due to the 35 inch tires. This year I didn’t go to Western NY or Pennsylvania and generally have been doing more social distancing so fewer trips to the store ๐Ÿฌ but more to the library for remote work. Plus with the solar panel and the two accessory batteries ๐Ÿ”‹ on my truck, I would generally set up camp and remain parked ๐Ÿ…ฟ for multiple days.

Tonight will be partly cloudy ๐ŸŒƒ, with a low of 39 degrees at 4am. Nine degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around October 18th. South wind 5 to 8 mph becoming west after midnight. In 2019, we had clear skies in the evening, which became cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 26 degrees. The record low of 7 occurred back in 1879.

Tomorrow will be partly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 49 degrees at 12pm. Three degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around November 14th. Northwest wind 6 to 14 mph. A year ago, we had light snow in the morning, which became light drizzle by afternoon. The high last year was 47 degrees. The record high of 70 was set in 1931. 0.8 inches of snow fell back in 1937.โ„

Cool but hopefully sunny and warm enough for a pleasant walk ๐Ÿšถ๐Ÿป to Five Rivers ๐Ÿฆ. Those blue birds were pretty that I saw there the other week. I am not expecting a ton of sun but I like the exercise. You never know what wildlife you will see while up there. ๐Ÿฆ‰

Looking ahead to Sunday, a chance of rain after 1pm. โ˜” Mostly cloudy, with a high near 41. โ˜๏ธ Light and variable wind becoming southeast 5 to 7 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. Typical average high for the weekend is 46 degrees.

I’ll probably go out to the folks house on Sunday. ๐Ÿฒ No big plans for Sunday, it might play with some of that Election Geodata I found on the MIT Election Lab ๐Ÿ”ฌ that I found the other night. Working from home ๐Ÿก means less commuting time and sometimes downtime at work and no library to walk to weeknights or the weekend so I’ll have to figure new ways to keep busy during the long winter nights.

As previously noted, next Friday is Buy Nothing Day ๐Ÿ›๏ธ when the sun will be setting at 4:24 pm with dusk at 4:55 pm. On that day in 2019, we had partly sunny skies, rain showers and temperatures between 57 and 31 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 43 degrees. We hit a record high of 66 back in 1896.

I am hoping next weekend to get up to the Adirondacks โ›ฐ โ„ to do some hot tenting โ›บ and hiking during the three day weekend. That said, not sure about the long range forecast. Might be kind of rainy. I’ll have to drive back Sunday as I don’t want to drive back in the dark from the Adirondacks. Some years the snow and ice hold off until January and I can do trips until the end of the year. Based on the amount of junk mail โœ‰ I got yesterday, the mailman is rooting for me to go it next weekend – certainly will have plenty of paper to start fires with. ๐Ÿ”ฅ

Pickup Truck

November 8, 2020 Morning

Good morning! Happy Sunday. Four weeks to First Sunday of Advent โœ๏ธ. Sunny and 45 degrees at the Stoney Pond State Forest. ๐ŸŒž There is a west breeze at 6 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. Mist is evaporating off the land, going to feel more like summer than late summer later. The sun feels quite warm.

Camp is all taken down โ›บ and I’m sitting down by Stoney Pond. In a little bit I’m going to head to Bouckville and hike some of the canal trail before heading home. The pond is very still but with a lot of people up this way, there isn’t really the solitude I would hope for. I don’t like hearing a bunch of voices in the woods. Usually it’s quiet ๐Ÿคซ up here in November but the weather is exceptionally nice.

Today will be sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 68 degrees at 2pm. 17 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around September 27th. West wind 3 to 6 mph. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. The high last year was 37 degrees. The record high of 75 was set in 1975. 1.7 inches of snow fell back in 1894.โ„

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 11:47 am with sun having an altitude of 30.4ยฐ from the due south horizon (-40.1ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 10.2 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 4:06 pm with the sun in the west-southwest (241ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-southwest (248ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 4:48 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 9 seconds with dusk around 5:16 pm, which is one minute and 8 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 5:51 pm. At sunset, look for clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 67 degrees. There will be a calm wind. Today will have 9 hours and 59 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 2 minutes and 25 seconds over yesterday.

After I head home, I’ll get unpacked and head out to the folks house for Sunday dinner. ๐Ÿฒ At one level I wish I could extend the weekend but I have a busy Monday on tap at work and I might end up having to go downtown. ๐Ÿข With winter coming, I expect things to return more back to normal but I’m also aware that spring will always return again ๐ŸŒผ that is after a long harsh winter. โ„

Tonight will be clear ๐ŸŒƒ, with a low of 47 degrees at 6am. 14 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around September 27th. Southwest wind 5 to 7 mph. In 2019, we had cloudy skies. It got down to 18 degrees. The record low of 11 occurred back in 1971.

I will miss Madison County ๐Ÿฎ and the farm country but while things may continue to change its going to be here much like it was a decade ago when I was here. I might not like everything I see in our country and our state but it’s good to get away. ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ I might not agree with everything happening in this world ๐ŸŒŽ but I’m mostly focused on improving my own life and not changing things beyond my control.

Looking ahead, there are 4 weeks until First Sunday of Advent โœ๏ธ when the sun will be setting at 4:28 pm with dusk at 5:00 pm. On that day in 2019, we had snow showers, cloudy skies and temperatures between 34 and 26 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 39 degrees. We hit a record high of 68 back in 2001.

Snowing

November 7, 2020 Night

Good evening! Partly clear and 52 degrees at the Stoney Pond State Forest. There is a west-southwest breeze at 6 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 43 degrees.

Walked down to Stoney Pond but there is enough clouds โ˜๏ธ that the Syracuse light pollution makes the stars โœจ much more difficult than previous nights. Came back to camp and sat by the fire ๐Ÿ”ฅ for a while. Definitely some nice scenery hiking along the Canastota-Cazenovia Trail and poking around Fenner. The wind farm and all the various livestock farms up that way are quite interesting to see. ๐Ÿฎ It’s amazing what people can make from the earth ๐ŸŒŽ tillage and grass. ๐Ÿšœ God bless the grass.

Joe Biden is the president elect and I listened to his speech ๐ŸŽค๐Ÿ‘ด๐Ÿป. Honestly with socially distant drive in rally due to COVID-19 it sounded like it was held at the median of the Belt Parkway. ๐Ÿš˜ I get it but it’s weird to hear car horns at a political speech. I voted for Jo Jergenson but I think Biden will be a much better president than Trump. Biden has so much more experience, he listens to experts, and he’s a calming influence during the pandemic. ๐Ÿ‘พBut even if I felt differently, I don’t have much say in the presidency beyond a bubble I marked on the voting Scantron machine. ๐Ÿ–‹๏ธ I don’t do many political rally anymore – protests are fun but I’m not interested in defending any particular cause. ๐Ÿคœ

Maybe Trump to a certain extent was a good thing. ๐Ÿคฌ He tore down the old rules about obscenity, brought down the presidency in some ways to the people by replacing the class and decorum of the office with that of a cheap suit worn by Billy Fuscillo. ๐Ÿ•ด๏ธ He made politicians a lot more free on their social media and many ways elevated politics over bureaucary and decorum which had gotten awful stuffy ๐Ÿง for the modern era. I think it’s fine for the world to know the president poops ๐Ÿ’ฉ and tweets from his gold plated toilet ๐Ÿšฝ. His three justices he appointed in the Supreme Court will provide an effective check on the new administration. โš– No one party should be too powerful. ๐Ÿ›ข That farm I passed with the very well used and blacked with melted plastic all over them burn barrels had a big ol Trump flag out front. But as a farmer I’m sure he’s done more than most to conserve our earth ๐ŸŒŽ and probably doesn’t send much trash to the landfill. ๐Ÿ”ฅ

Tonight will be mostly clear ๐ŸŒƒ, with a low of 47 degrees at 6am. 13 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around September 27th. Southwest wind around 6 mph. In 2019, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became partly cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 23 degrees. The record low of 18 occurred back in 1971.

I don’t know it feels colder than that already, โ„ but truth be told it was so warm and sunny today that everything seems a lot colder then it is. But sitting the next to the campfire ๐Ÿ”ฅwith my vest and cowboy hat ๐Ÿค  it’s quite warm. I realize that there is so much I can’t change about the world today but I can continue to enjoy my own life free and work to save for a better tomorrow. ๐Ÿ’ต The politicians are going to do what they do but I can’t turn off the radio ๐Ÿ“ป and avoid the social media. ๐Ÿ“ฑ I don’t think I’ll ever own of those colored televisions ๐Ÿ“บ,

Tonight will have a Last Quarter ๐ŸŒ— Moon with 54% illuminated. The moon will rise at 10:33 pm. The Beaver ๐Ÿป Moon is on Monday, November 23. The darkest hour is at 11:47 pm, followed by dawn at 6:16 am, and sun starting to rise at 6:46 am in the east-southeast (112ยฐ) and last for 3 minutes and 9 seconds. Sunrise is one minute and 16 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ The golden hour ends at 7:27 am with sun in the east-southeast (119ยฐ). Tonight will have 13 hours and 59 minutes of darkness, an increase of 2 minutes and 26 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will be sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 68 degrees at 2pm. 17 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around September 27th. Maximum dew point of 46 at 5pm. Light west wind. A year ago, we had cloudy skies in the morning with more sun in the afternoon. The high last year was 37 degrees. The record high of 75 was set in 1975. 1.7 inches of snow fell back in 1894.โ„

Tomorrow I have to take down camp โ›บ, officially by eleven o’clock when my three night tenancy expires. I will miss the wild Hill and Hollow country of Madison County ๐Ÿฎ but it’s not going away any time soon. I mean this was the exact same campsite I was at a decade ago. But with the mild weather โ˜€ I haven’t been able to enjoy the solitude that was the case a decade ago – people are enjoying the nice weather. Can’t blame them. Me too!

Central NY ๐Ÿ—ฝ is different than the Adirondacks or the Green Mountains but I like the agricultural landscape for a change. ๐Ÿฎ There are a lot of neat trails and scenic vistas out along this way. I honestly haven’t spent a lot of time out in Cazenovia area in years and the Trailway is quite nice. ๐Ÿšถ๐Ÿป That said, Chittenango Falls was way too crowded but particularly the high country part of the Trailway was super quiet. ๐Ÿคซ I just wish more people would wear masks on the trail ๐Ÿ˜ท. Apparently social distancing isn’t as popular here. ๐Ÿ—ฃ๏ธ

Iysa beautiful landscape out here, and some day I want to live back out in the country ๐Ÿก๐Ÿฎ๐Ÿท but not one of those big fancy houses. More ramshackle like those often rundown farms I pass on by. There is something so beautiful about how nature grows back and works to take over everything – the abandoned homes and equipment, and just the mud and muck that can be found on every farm.

In four weeks on December 5 the sun will be setting in the west-southwest (239ยฐ) at 4:28 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 18 minutes and 45 seconds earlier then tonight. In 2019 on that day, we had mostly cloudy, snow showers and temperatures between 38 and 28 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 40 and 25 degrees. The record high of 65 degrees was set back in 2001.

I may do a December trip โ›บ but I don’t really know, as I expect soon for remote work ๐Ÿ’ป to be ending and I don’t have a lot of vacation time left at this point before the end of the year. I feel like the abnormally warm weather is soon to switch to be cold โ„ and snow ๐ŸŒจ. And once the roads are icy and snow covered, camping season is likely done for me unless I hot tent ๐ŸŽช locally as I’ve done some years during the holidays.

Looking ahead, Regular Deer Season in Southern Zone ๐ŸฆŒ is in 2 weeks, Small Business Saturday ๐Ÿ›๏ธ is in 3 weeks, Repeal of Prohibition Day ๐Ÿบ is in 4 weeks, Boxing Day ๐ŸฅŠ is in 7 weeks, Static Electric Shock Day ๐Ÿงผ is in 9 weeks, National Cheese Lovers Day ๐Ÿง€ is in 11 weeks, Save the Pine Bush Turns 43 ๐Ÿฆ‹ is in 13 weeks, 5:30 PM Sunset ๐ŸŒ† is in 15 weeks and Snow Moon ๐ŸŒ• is in 16 weeks.

November 24, 2019 Afternoon

Good afternoon! Rain and 37 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜” There is a north-northwest breeze at 11 mph. 🍃. There is a dusting of snow on the ground. โ˜ƒ Temperatures will drop below freezing at tomorrow around 4 am. โ˜ƒ๏ธ

It was nice camping โ›บ up north in the Adirondacks, and I was surprised that it wasn’t as loud as it sometimes is camping along the East Branch of the Sacanadaga River. Traffic just seemed lighter than normal but I don’t think Gore is open yet nor is snowmobile season and big game hunting season is winding down in the Northern Zone, a lot of people have already tagged out. That said almost all of hunting cabins up north that I passed looked fully occupied with smoke coming out the chimney and lots of pickup trucks parked out front.

Lot more snow than I expected โ„, although not really based on the snow fall estimates which are usually pretty good. Maybe four inches of snow at camp – not real deep but enough that I was glad the site was plowed out by the hunter who had the campsite for the season before they tagged out – probably yesterday – and packed up and left. They also left a ton of firewood 🔥 which was nice, although some of it was particle and chip board although both after I took my axe to it burned well and didn’t stink that much much.

Because I had so much wood I ended up hanging out in camp and starting the fire early 🔥, shoveling around as needed. I didn’t set up a hot tent because I didn’t want to have to dry out my tent in the morning. It did get a bit cold by the fire late around ten as I forgot to pack Long Johns and Wool Socks but once I was under the covers in my truck I was plenty warm. If I go back out on Black Friday to camp – possibly back to the same place – I’ll probably pitch a tent as it’s always nice to have a warm tent to curl up before bed in.

I sat back and had a nice breakfast. 🍳 There was light snow during the overnight, maybe an inch, but by 8 am the roads were just wet. Then relaxing next to the heater โ™จ, working on some blog posts in the winter wonderland until quarter to ten, while slowly taking down camp, it started to sleet then turn to big globs of snow. โ„ By the time I broke camp, the roads had started to ice up a bit with the fallen snow. South of Wells the snow was about an inch deep on NY 30 but after a slow slog down to Northville, the roads were just wet. I drive super slow and carefully on the icy roads because I do so little winter driving these days 🚘 – and I know if it takes a little longer than necessary to get home safely – it’s still a shit ton better than getting in a crash. Really foggy 🌁 in Amsterdam.

It’s nice being in the wilderness and having a big fire. 🐺 The woods is my happy place where I can make as much noise as I want with my music 🎶 and guns 🔫 and have a nice fire. 🔥 Tossing a wrapper in the fire and watching it burn down to nothing and unzipping my jeans and peeing where ever I want is the best! Few things are quite as warming as a wood fire although that 18,000 BTU heater feels great at camp. Listening 👂 to the birds 🐦 this morning and the coyotes late last night. I can’t wait until I can live a life like this permanently. Not next year but eventually. Living in the city is convenient but I ducking love 😍 the wilderness and the countryside.

This afternoon will rain before 3pm, then rain and snow likely. 🌧 High of 37 degrees at 1pm. Seven degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around December 11th. Northwest wind 11 to 13 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. Total daytime snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning, remaining cloudy in the afternoon. The high last year was 40 degrees. The record high of 70 was set in 2014. That said, a few weeks later I remember snow camping in the Adirondacks. 8.8 inches of snow fell back in 1898.โ„

Heading out to the folks house for Sunday dinner around four. 🍲 Warm enough and will stay warm so I expect the roads won’t be bad like they were up north for a while. That said things can change but it’s not that far for a slow pace or staying overnight if necessary.

The sun will set at 4:26 pm with dusk around 4:57 pm, which is 37 seconds earlier than yesterday. 🌇 At sunset, look for rain 🌧 and snow 🌨 and temperatures around 36 degrees. There will be a northwest breeze at 13 mph. Today will have 9 hours and 28 minutes of daytime, an increase of one minute and 48 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will have a chance of rain and snow showers before 7pm, then a slight chance of snow showers between 7pm and 9pm. Mostly cloudy 🌧, with a low of 32 degrees at 5am. Three degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around November 16th. Northwest wind 8 to 14 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible. In 2018, we had cloudy skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 39 degrees. The record low of 2 occurred back in 1938.

Tuesday morning I’m going to the Urgent Care to get my arm checked out 🙋. Five bucks more per copay then my regular doctor who is currently closed. I’m sure they’ll say it’s Lyme and they’ll put me on antibiotics and the aches and occasional severe headaches will fairly quickly go away. It’s become more noticeable since the bulls eye appeared, especially in the arm but I’m sure I’ve had Lyme Disease since I got the tick bite mid October. 🎯It’s not that bad now but I know it will get worse untreated and they’re so much better at addressing Lyme disease than even a few weeks ago. I was hesitant to go and get tested before I had the bulls eye because the test sometimes comes back false negative if you get tested too quickly and I didn’t want the doctor to thank me for the co-payment and send me on my way untreated. 😷

Also need to get a hair cut.💈 My hair has so quickly gotten shaggy. I did shave my goatee back 🐐 as that was getting kind of long and nasty. But the hair I can’t do myself. 💇

My buck fifty cellphone holder 📱I got from AliExpress broke so I couldn’t have Waze open to display my speed yesterday and I blew past a cop 👮 accidentally pm Interstate 890 🚔but fortunately I did not get pulled over. My speedometer is not accurate on Big Red with the lift kit so I always use Waze to know my speed. That said, for me to blow past a cop means doing 60 mph in a 55 zone which is probably what half the motorists are doing all the time. I should get another one. AliExpress is mad cheap but the quality is a crap shoot and it will take a month or two to arrive on the boat from China. 🚤

Definitely thinking about heading back north on Friday depending on the weather. โ›บ Maybe the same site but two nights, plus some hiking and time in the woods with my shotgun. This time I will pitch a tent and hot tent. I really should hook up the low voltage disconnect reset as in the cold and long nights it seems like occasionally the battery voltage dips but probably could be used longer without turning the truck on if I reconnected the reset button.

Propane camp lantern 🏮 isn’t working at all now. Not sure the issue although I suspect the generator tube that pressurizes the gas is fully plugged with mud and soot. During my October camping trip I was having problems with it producing a ton of black soot and burning dimly. I would like to fix it although I’m considering getting an LED lantern like my parents use and putting rechargable batteries in it it or maybe getting a lantern that can be charged by plugging into the USB ports on my truck. LED lanterns are a lot less fragile but probably not as bright as the propane and they need to recharged. Gotta think about it more. 💭

Speaking of broken shit my portable radio 📻 needs a new battery. The rechargable lithium ion BL – 5C battery it came with has failed, it barely holds a charge and it’s gotten all bloated from overcharging or another failure internally of the lithium ion cell. So bloated the battery cover won’t even fit on the radio.🔋 I’m hesitant to charge it now without watching it lest it go thermal and burn up. Years ago I was burning some camp trash and a little CR 2025 button cell got tossed in the fire and man did that go bang. 💥Moral of the story, don’t mess with lithium ion cells.

As previously noted, next Sunday is December 🎄 when the sun will be setting at 4:23 pm with dusk at 4:54 pm. On that day in 2018, we had partly cloudy, rain showers and temperatures between 45 and 31 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 41 degrees. We hit a record high of 67 back in 1934.

November 15, 2019 Morning

Good morning! Yeah, it’s Friday! I’m glad, I’m looking forward to the weekend even if it means I’ll be at the Renewable Energy Fair most of Saturday. Two weeks to Buy Nothing Day ๐Ÿ›๏ธ. Mostly sunny and 31 degrees at the Elm Ave Park & Ride – CDTA. There is a south-southwest breeze at 6 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. Feels much warmer than earlier in the week – it was actually a bit warmer than I would have liked in my apartment. I shouldn’t have left the heat at 55 before bed as it overrode quite a bit.

Last night I was playing with CSS flex and grid, trying to decide on a possible future redesign of the blog. I didn’t know much about the latest in browser development ๐Ÿ“ฐ as it’s been a while since I’ve redesigned a website from the ground up. Stayed up much too late for sure trying to learn the ins and out. The current design works well but sometimes I’ve noticed display glitches while embedding Facebook and Twitter posts, and sometimes links don’t work properly. It’s also a bit slow at times — some of it’s my web host, but some of it’s bloated code. Plus, the parent theme I’m using to base my blog off (with heavy modifications), is no longer supported, and uses some code that isn’t PHP 7 friendly.

I went down to the library for a bit, ๐Ÿ“š mostly to download some themes, to based on my desire to put a fresh new look on the blog, but managed to save them in the /tmp directly, which was promptly discarded when I restarted my computer. Doh! ๐Ÿ’ป Fortunately, I can always just re-download them.

But regardless of my new found knowledge on web programming, I certainly shouldn’t have stayed up until 11:30 AM, as I tend to wake up quite early most mornings, this morning included.๐ŸŒ„ I was stirring around 6:30 although I didn’t get out of bed until 7 AM. So I bet I’m going to be tired today at work. I’ll make it through today and get to bed early tomorrow. That will certainly make me feel miserable later today.

Today will be mostly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 43 degrees at 1pm. Five degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around November 27th. South wind 6 to 9 mph becoming west in the afternoon. But much better than its been. A year ago, we had cloudy skies in the morning with more sun in the afternoon. The high last year was 29 degrees. Kind of like yesterday. The record high of 74 was set in 1993. 4.8 inches of snow fell back in 1906.โ„

The sun will set at 4:33 pm with dusk around 5:03 pm, which is 55 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At sunset, look for partly clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 41 degrees. There will be a west breeze at 8 mph. Today will have 9 hours and 46 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 10 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will have a slight chance of snow showers between 11pm and midnight. Partly cloudy ๐ŸŒƒ, with a low of 17 degrees at 6am. 15 degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around December 27th. West wind 9 to 14 mph becoming north after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 20%. In 2018, we had light snow in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 26 degrees. The record low of 7 occurred back in 1972.

Tomorrow will be sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 29 degrees at 1pm. 19 degrees below normal. North wind 7 to 9 mph. Another cold day, but hopefully it won’t be so cold at the New Scotland Armory. I am going to end up having to drive there, as I need to bring a table, as they’re not being provided. It’s not like it’s the other side of world, but I try to avoid driving in the city. A year ago, we had cloudy skies in the morning with more sun in the afternoon. The high last year was 40 degrees. The record high of 71 was set in 2006. 3.4 inches of snow fell back in 2002.โ„

Looking ahead to Sunday, sunny, with a high near 36. โ˜€ Northeast wind 3 to 5 mph. Typical average high for the weekend is 48 degrees. Cold yes but it’s still improvement. The long range doesn’t show as much of a warm up as before but that’s good – maybe less potholes this year. That said, despite the cold I’m not sure that the ground froze up that bad, so maybe it won’t be so bad early in the season. I’m hoping for warmer weather for camping though.

As previously noted, there are 2 weeks until Buy Nothing Day ๐Ÿ›๏ธ when the sun will be setting at 4:23 pm with dusk at 4:55 pm. On that day in 2018, we had partly sunny and temperatures between 56 and 28 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 42 degrees. We hit a record high of 66 back in 2005.

November 14, 2019 Morning

Good morning! Happy Thursday. Two weeks to Thanksgiving 🦃. Turkey day is late this year. 🍗 Going to leave a lot of people hungry especially the big retailers. Mostly cloudy and 22 degrees at the Elm Ave Park & Ride – CDTA. โ˜ There is a south breeze at 7 mph. 🍃. Maybe a dusting in a few places but for the most part the snow locally has bit the bullet and probably has lead to a poisoning. โ˜ƒ ๏ธThings will start to thaw out at around 11 am. 🌡๏ธ

It’s kind of gray out this morning with some warm colors in the sky to the south. โ˜ Colder then I expected because the heat is on in my apartment and it’s quite comfortable. No warmth from the sun. It just feels like November. Tomorrow is halfway through the month. Traffic is backed up going through the Plaza but I still haven’t think I’ll make it in time to work. โŒš I always build extra time into my schedule with the express bus 🚍.
