Back from Grandma Moses Country ๐Ÿ‘ต๐Ÿฝ๐ŸŽจ

You know it was worth an exploration, I tell myself even if it didn’t have the right feel for me. Pointed Rocks on the Batten Kill had been on my bucket list for a long time to hike – it’s a surprisingly long and steep hike outside of Adirondack and Catskill Park and the whole area around the Batten Kill is quite spectacular, full of birds and nature if not a pungent this time of year from the manuring. Shits gotta grow come the summer.

Good morning! Rain and 44 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜” There is a south breeze at 7 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. Temperatures will drop below freezing at tomorrow around 4 am. โ˜ƒ๏ธ

Honest, I wasn’t planning on going to Washington County yesterday ๐Ÿž but I ended up that way after looking at some houses, properties and land in Hoosic, Pittstown and Valley Falls. Rural country out that way but it didn’t have the right feel in my mind. I totally get why that former Research Services director used to live out in White Creek but that’s a bit too far away from work especially having to drive through Troy and all those other little speed traps and hick towns. ๐Ÿš“ Of course he did move to Pennsylvania as soon as he could retire.

I had wanted to hike Pointed Rocks and explore the area along the Batten Kill for some time now. ๐Ÿšถ ๐Ÿž๏ธ but somehow I never got up that way as there isn’t any place right nearby to camp, except maybe for the Green Mountain National Forest on the other side of Bennington. Nice country up along the Batten Kill State Forest and along NY 313, but certainly too far from Albany too commute. ๐Ÿšฆ๐Ÿš™๐Ÿš—๐Ÿšš๐Ÿ›ป There was an interesting property along NY 22 that was 20 acres of moutainside and woods, with a steep creek for micro-hydro that looked quite attractive from the road and on paper, if not for all those damn traffic lights, hick towns and NY 7 traffic cluster. Had a nice little mobile-home sized site on a ledge over the road, with a somewhat steep driveway but partially cleared. I think it was a former hunting camp. ๐Ÿ ๏ธ Looked like the neighbors would have been good, they’re distance away, have horses and a small pre-fab house. Price was good, but it’s all about the location.

And I didn’t have the natural attraction to Grandma Moses country that I have to the Heldebergs, and I don’t know anybody who currently lives out that way. ๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿš’ I’m sure if I got involved in the community, maybe became a volunteer firefighter I could make friends, but it’s still tough. ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ Plus, despite all the kitsch Grandma Moses Painting, that area of state is quite poor. ๐Ÿ But I kind of like that, those are probably good friendly people who work hard, not yuppies.

Today will have showers likely, mainly before 8am. Mostly cloudy with some clearing later on ๐ŸŒฆ, with a high of 51 degrees at 4pm. Six degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around March 29th. South wind 7 to 15 mph becoming northwest in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 25 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning, which became light rain by afternoon. The high last year was 47 degrees. The record high of 75 was set in 1990. 4.1 inches of snow fell back in 1982.โ„

The major plan for today is to go to the grocery store and get more groceries ๐Ÿ›’ fairly early on. I am as shocked as anyone that it’s already Sunday again and my pantry is fairly bare, although not as bad as some weeks in part because I stopped and got a few more things on the way home when driving in on Friday, as that was when I had my dentist appointment with that mean hygienist.๐Ÿฆท I am not going to put up with her abuse, she was abusive in that dentist chair how she treated me. I am going to cancel my next appointment and see if I can reschedule with my usual dental hygentist Hamid.

I might head out to Coeymans to do some more poking around later on the back roads. ๐Ÿ›ป That said, I’ve checked out many of the listings, and I’m kind of tired after all the driving and exploring yesterday. Hell of it is because I decided to head up to Washington County to hike, ๐Ÿšถ never made it down to southern Rensselaer County to explore some of the homes and properties around Lebanon Valley that are for sale. The thing is down there, you’re getting into the Taconics โ›ฐ๏ธ which are quite nice, but land prices go up there, and you start mixing with a lot NYC pukey-pukes down that way. Get south of the Berskshire Spur Thruway and there is some shit ton of NYC money that way, thanks to the Taconic Parkway. Not only is land is expensive, you know who is going to be living next door, people closer to Elliot Spitzer who is responsible for the burn ban, then some dirt-farming goat-rising good ol’ boy. ๐Ÿ‘›

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 1:04 pm with sun having an altitude of 46.3ยฐ from the due south horizon (-24.6ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 5.7 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 6:28 pm with the sun in the west (263ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west (269ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 7:05 pm after setting for 2 minutes and 54 seconds with dusk around 7:32 pm, which is one minute and 10 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the Waxing Gibbous ๐ŸŒ” Moon in the south (172ยฐ) at an altitude of 75ยฐ from the horizon, 241,964 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 8:06 pm. At sunset, look for partly clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 45 degrees. There will be a west-northwest breeze at 10 mph. Today will have 12 hours and 4 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 54 seconds over yesterday.

Another work week ahead, ๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿ’ผ back to being a professional rather then a cowboy-hat wearing good ol’ boy or so I play on the weekends. One more week until the long Easter Weekend when I’m hoping to get to the Adirondacks to camp ๐Ÿ•๏ธ and have a big ol’ fire ๐Ÿ”ฅ with flames mostly less then 3 feet high and not too much plastic, because you know the burn ban and stuff. ๐Ÿคฃ Ah, New York State. I should bring my .22 rifle and make some noise too while I’m up in the wilderness. It’s been too long since I’ve spent much time in the woods. ๐ŸŒฒ

Tonight will be partly cloudy ๐ŸŒƒ , with a low of 31 degrees at 5am. Four degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around March 30th. West wind around 8 mph. In 2023, we had light rain in the evening, which became cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 28 degrees. The record low of -08 occurred back in 1900.

As previously noted, there are 3 weeks until 7:30 PM Sunset ๐ŸŒ‡ when the sun will be setting at 7:30 pm with dusk at 7:57 pm. On that day in 2023, we had mostly sunny and temperatures between 48 and 34 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 55 degrees. We hit a record high of 87 back in 2010.

Walking Along the Truck Trail

September 12, 2020 Night

Good evening! Mostly clear and 61 degrees in Delmar, NY. Calm wind. The dew point is 51 degrees. A pleasant evening, not too cool, sitting out back watching some YouTube ๐ŸŽž๏ธ I downloaded and then a copy of the NY Back Country Hunters series on Learn to Hunt. Always good to learn a thing or two new.

It was a nice day up at Rennselearville State Forest. ๐ŸŒป๐Ÿ’ฎ๐Ÿฆ‹ I do wish though I had gotten an earlier start so I would have had more time to explore more of the forest ๐Ÿ”ญ but I did get a few hours to poke around the forest. ๐ŸŒฒThe morning was kind of busy with work stuff – I ended up having to run some numbers ๐Ÿ”ข after a work call ๐Ÿ“ž then I got working on some edits to something else.

Like always I do like poking around those back country roads ๐Ÿฎ and this time up at Rennselearville State Forest was no exception. First time I’ve been on Travis Hill in many years – still mostly just hunting camps up there. ๐ŸฆŒ A lot of changes to the tree cover at the state forest ๐ŸŒฒsince I was last there with harvests.

Tonight will have increasing clouds โ˜, with a low of 55 degrees at 4am. Two degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around September 8th. Maximum dew point of 51 at 10pm. Light southeast wind becoming south 5 to 10 mph after midnight. In 2019, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 45 degrees. The record low of 37 occurred back in 1964.

Tonight will have a Waining Crescent ๐ŸŒ˜ Moon with 22% illuminated. The Harvest ๐ŸŒฝ Moon is on Sunday, September 27. The darkest hour is at 12:52 am, followed by dawn at 6:05 am, and sun starting to rise at 6:33 am in the east (84ยฐ) and last for 2 minutes and 55 seconds. Sunrise is one minute and 4 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ The golden hour ends at 7:11 am with sun in the east (90ยฐ). Tonight will have 11 hours and 23 minutes of darkness, an increase of 2 minutes and 50 seconds over last night.

This evening when I was at the folks house ๐Ÿก I went online and increased my weekly average investments in adjustance to my increased pay as a supervisor. Investments are growing nicely although I’m not sure if I they are fully above the pre pandemic highs so far its been good times. ๐Ÿ’ต Both retirement and mid term savings are growing ๐Ÿ“ˆ and I’m getting closer to being able to afford the off-grid property in the 2030s and partial retirement to hobby farm – homestead in the 2040s. ๐Ÿ

I do need to make some hard decisions by the end of November ๐Ÿ’ฐ because I expect to be retiring Big Red next fall and I may not want to renew all of my certificate of deposit if I need a new vehicle. ๐Ÿš˜ That said, I’ve put more money into regular savings going forward and less in the market because I’m starting to think that the stock market is getting way over valued with all the coronavirus stimulus. Interest rates – at 7/10th of a percent on savings sucks though as your almost paying the bank ๐Ÿฆ for the privilege of holding your money. I don’t know if I want another car or truck but if I do I’ll probably look at something more economical to drive that uses less fuel โ›ฝ and spends less time at the shop. ๐Ÿ”ง Maybe a Prisus or a Tacoma.

I find motoring ๐Ÿ incredibly stressful ๐Ÿ˜ต and I look and see how much damage driving ๐Ÿš˜ does to our communities. Cars have ruined our urban fabric and polluted the landscape with smoke, noise and acres of asphalt. They kill and mame many and are so expensive to drive and insure. ๐Ÿš‘ And they always break down ๐Ÿ”ง and make scary noises. But on the other hand, they are the best ways to escape cities to the mountains ๐Ÿ—ป and remote farm country. ๐Ÿšœ

Tomorrow will have a chance of showers, mainly after 3pm. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฆ, with a high of 75 degrees at 3pm. Morning shouldn’t be too bad though. Two degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around September 10th. Maximum dew point of 61 at 4pm. South wind 9 to 17 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. A year ago, we had light rain in the morning with more sun in the afternoon. The high last year was 72 degrees. The record high of 92 was set in 1948.

I am thinking tomorrow about hiking out to Five Rivers ๐Ÿฆ in the morning before it gets all cloudy โ›… and starts to rain โ˜”. I still need to keep working on the paper ๐Ÿ“„ I’m editing and I have numbers ๐Ÿ”ข to crunch among other work projects this afternoon – and maybe some new blog content to do too.

In four weeks on October 10 the sun will be setting in the west (261ยฐ) at 6:20 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 49 minutes and 10 seconds earlier then tonight. In 2019 on that day, we had partly sunny and temperatures between 69 and 49 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 62 and 41 degrees. The record high of 89 degrees was set back in 1939.

Looking ahead, Columbus Day โ›ต ๐Ÿ‚ is a month away, Northern Zone Regular Season ๐ŸฆŒ is in 5 weeks, Halloween ๐Ÿฆ‡ and the Blue Moon ๐ŸŒ• is in 7 weeks, Small Business Saturday ๐Ÿ›๏ธ is in 11 weeks, Repeal of Prohibition Day ๐Ÿบ is in 12 weeks, Boxing Day ๐ŸฅŠ is in 15 weeks, Static Electric Shock Day ๐Ÿงผ is in 17 weeks, National Cheese Lovers Day ๐Ÿง€ is in 19 weeks, Save the Pine Bush Turns 43 ๐Ÿฆ‹ is in 21 weeks, 5:30 PM Sunset ๐ŸŒ† is in 23 weeks, and Snow Moon ๐ŸŒ• is in 24 weeks.

Hazy Catskills

June 30, 2020 Morning

Good morning! Where did June go? Cloudy and 66 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜ There is a north-northwest breeze at 5 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 64 degrees. The skies will clear tomorrow around 7 pm.

I woke up much too early this morning ๐Ÿ˜ด fearing that I had overslept. After traveling and adjusting the alarm โฐ times on my clock lately, things were all screwed up and when I first looked at my clock I thought it was a quarter before nine, rather than a quarter before six. ๐ŸŒ… But who would know, it’s such a dark and gray morning.

Not expecting a real nice Tuesday but that’s fine, ๐Ÿ’ผ I’m working from home today and I have all the supplies I need so I don’t have to go anywhere today. ๐Ÿก Hoping though later it will be nice enough for my evening walk ๐Ÿšถ.

Today will have a chance of showers before 11am, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms between 11am and 3pm, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after 3pm. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฆ, with a high of 77 degrees at 2pm. Four degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around June 13th. Maximum dew point of 65 at 9am. North wind 5 to 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. A year ago, we had light rain in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. It was somewhat humid. The high last year was 81 degrees. The record high of 98 was set in 1964.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 1:00 pm with sun having an altitude of 70.5ยฐ from the due south horizon (-0.3ยฐ vs. 6/21). The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 7:55 pm with the sun in the west-northwest (296ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-northwest (303ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 8:38 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 27 seconds with dusk around 9:11 pm, which is 7 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the Waxing Gibbous ๐ŸŒ” Moon in the south (178ยฐ) at an altitude of 34ยฐ from the horizon, 227,672 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 9:58 pm. At sunset, look for thunderstorms ๐ŸŒฉ and temperatures around 72 degrees. The dew point will be 64 degrees. There will be a north-northwest breeze at 6 mph. Today will have 15 hours and 15 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 37 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will have a chance of showers and thunderstorms before 11pm, then a slight chance of showers. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 63 degrees at 4am. Three degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 64 at 6pm. Northwest wind 3 to 6 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. In 2019, we had cloudy skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 60 degrees. The record low of 45 occurred back in 1978.

So if I have Friday off I’ll probably spend the day hiking and fishing ๐ŸŽฃ and I’m going to see about possibly going out to my parents house for the postponed Sunday dinner due to the bad weather last weekend. ๐Ÿฃ It would be nice to sit out back and catch up with them.

I’m thinking of poking around some of the dirt roads at Partridge Run to see if I still hear that occasionally clunking noise in the truck – it’s not particularly noticeable around town and I don’t want to spend money on something that isn’t going to cause problems in the near future. ๐Ÿš˜ I’m not sure if it’s either a new noise or I’ve gotten overly sensitive. I get so paranoid at times.

On this day in 1971, Ohio ratifies the 26th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, โŽ reducing the voting age to 18, thereby putting the amendment into effect. Also in 1934, The Night of the Long Knives, Adolf Hitler’s violent purge of his political rivals in Germany, takes place. ๐Ÿ”ช Fortunately, we only have obnoxious rhetoric to that impact in our country today.

Looking ahead, there are 18 weeks until Election Day 2020 ๐Ÿ—ณ๏ธ when the sun will be setting at 4:45 pm with dusk at 5:14 pm (Standard Time). On that day in 2019, we had partly sunny, rain showers and temperatures between 53 and 30 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 53 degrees. We hit a record high of 75 back in 1990.

 Central Ave

June 28, 2020 Night

Good evening! Cloudy, damoand 69 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ›… Calm wind. The dew point is 66 degrees. Dew point makes it a bit muggy. The skies will clear around 10 pm.

All day the weather has been quite unstable โšก so I decided to Stay Home and get unpacked and get caught up on sleep. I was going to go to mom and dad’s house but decided against it when the weather was too dicey for an outdoor picnic. Sunday dinner or sitting around the living room with masks ๐Ÿ˜ท on doesn’t sound like much fun and is kind of risky to boot. Coronavirus is in hiding right now but you never know if you might have picked it up along the way somewhere, although I doubt I’d had the close personal contact for a length of time necessary to pick it up. Better safe than sorry. That said, I do realize time is limited and I should try to get out there the next time the weather is nice and sit outside and talk before it’s too late. โŒ›

Speaking of procrastination I’ve decided to take a wait and see approach on Big Red. ๐Ÿš˜ The noise I’m hearing only is occasional and I’m not sure I want to take it back to the shop ๐Ÿช I went to that didn’t know much about the lift kit. I’d rather take it Watkins Spring next but the thing is that it would be a lot more convenient to drop it off once I’m working back downtown again. NYC is in Stage 3 of the reopening and Upstate is Stage 4, so I can’t imagine it’s long before the buses ๐Ÿšfull restart and I’m working downtown again. ๐Ÿข I don’t think it’s safety critical but I’d rather get it properly adjusted or broken parts replaced before I’m stranded in the remote back country or I chew up other expensive hardware.

I am planning to stay in town for the Fourth of July ๐ŸŽ† just because I just was out camping for ten days and I expect the back country to be crowded with most of the developed campgrounds operating at limited capacity. โ›บ I guess I could tent camp somewhere locally in the back country but for now that’s not on the agenda.

Later in July I’ll probably take my formal vacation. ๐Ÿ˜Ž The one where I’m not writing memos and reports ๐Ÿ“ and taking calls all day long. ๐Ÿ“ž Where cell service is non essential. This year I’m thinking the Tug Hill Plateau and Western Adirondacks and Saint Lawrence County but nothing is set in stone. I might also take a long weekend up to the Potholers and Piseco-Powley Road but I’ll have to enter from the north end as the Fulton County section of the road is closed.

Tonight will be scattered showers and thunderstorms before 2am, then a slight chance of showers between 2am and 3am. Patchy fog after 3am. Otherwise, mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 64 degrees at 3am. Four degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 66 at 9pm. Calm wind. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. In 2019, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became light rain by the early hours of the morning. It was humid. It got down to 70 degrees. The record low of 44 occurred back in 1981.

Tonight will have a First Quarter ๐ŸŒ“ Moon with 59% illuminated. At 9 PM, the moon was in the south-southwest (207ยฐ) at an altitude of 41ยฐ from the horizon, some 226,288 miles away from where you are looking up from the earth. ๐Ÿš€ At the state speed limit of 55 mph, you’ll make it there by December 17th. Buckle up for safety! ๐Ÿ’บ The Buck ๐ŸฆŒ Moon is on Saturday, July 4. The darkest hour is at 12:59 am, followed by dawn at 4:46 am, and sun starting to rise at 5:21 am in the east-northeast (57ยฐ) and last for 3 minutes and 28 seconds. Sunrise is 26 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ The golden hour ends at 6:04 am with sun in the east-northeast (64ยฐ). Tonight will have 8 hours and 43 minutes of darkness, an increase of 32 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will have a slight chance of showers between 8am and 10am, then scattered showers and thunderstorms after 10am. Some of the storms could produce small hail and heavy rain. Patchy fog before 7am. Otherwise, mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a high of 79 degrees at 3pm. Two degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around June 21st. Maximum dew point of 65 at 11am. Light northwest wind becoming north 5 to 9 mph in the morning. Chance of precipitation is 50%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. The high last year was 87 degrees. The record high of 96 was set in 1944.

In four weeks on July 26 the sun will be setting in the west-northwest (297ยฐ) at 8:21 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 15 minutes and 24 seconds earlier then tonight. In 2019 on that day, we had hot, sunny, patches of fog and temperatures between 87 and 60 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 83 and 62 degrees. The record high of 96 degrees was set back in 1963.

May 3, 2020 10 PM Update

Good evening! Partly clear and 64 degrees in Delmar, NY. There is a west breeze at 6 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 46 degrees. Nice evening, sat out back for a while. Not feeling terrible but still a little achy from the Lyme. I still need to take the doxycline I got from the doctor Friday. ๐Ÿ’Š

Sleeping with the windows open tonight โฌ› which is nice until I heard the sirens from the meat wagon ๐Ÿš‘go roaring by. I wonder if it’s somebody dying of Coronavirus? Hopefully nobody I know. It’s a question one always asks these days.

I thought about staying up north one more night and driving home early tomorrow ๐Ÿš˜ but I decided against that as I broke camp midday to go hiking. ๐Ÿšถ While hiking the remote section of the abandoned Dunning Pond Snowmobile Trail was quiet I eventually lost the trail as it got into dense woods with lots of trees down and few of the old markers. ๐Ÿ”ด Some nice views of the gorge and then a lot of it was an eroded mountain road until the trail left the road and disappeared into the woods. This wouldn’t have been a big problem if I had the GPS tracks from my Google County Maps part of the blog but of course I managed to somehow delete them off my phone. I got to make sure I have them on the phone along with USGS Topo maps saved. I would have also had a better chance of following the herd path up to Eagle Pond that I had lost on Saturday if I had that data saved. ๐ŸŒWell there always is future trips up north.

It was a pretty good weekend up north ๐Ÿ˜Ž with lots of sun and actually quite mild and warm most of the weekend except for brief rain shower around 10 pm Saturday night ๐Ÿ’ฆwhen I ended up retiring to my truck cap earlier than I had planned. Had a nice big fire ๐Ÿ”ฅ at the same campsite I’ve been at the past few times I’ve been up north on the East Branch Sacandaga River. โ›บ Some traffic ๐Ÿšฅ noise but pretty nice. Spent a lot of time laying back in the hammock, soaking up the sun. โ˜€ The sun felt good especially when I felt achy from the Lyme. Warm enough a good portion of the weekend I could just lay out with a t shirt ๐Ÿ‘š on.

Left my Bluetooth speaker ๐Ÿ”Š home which was annoying when I wanted to listen to podcasts and music ๐ŸŽถ. I’m going to start leaving that in the truck. Better to charge it there too – I don’t pay for the unused solar power the truck produces while parked with the solar controller in float mode. ๐Ÿ”‹ Also forgot ketchup for my hotdogs – ended up topping them with baked beans and cheese. ๐Ÿฃ

Explored more of the Fox Lair remains, I want to do one of those historical aerial photo comparisons, especially if I can find the 1942 aerial photo ๐Ÿ“ท. Not a lot left of the ruins, but I wonder if I can find more old pictures on the internet. ๐ŸฐDid some walking ๐Ÿšถ along NY 8 just for exercise too and to take in the scenery.

Came back relatively early, I was unpacked by about six. ๐Ÿก Laid back on my bed for a while before showering ๐Ÿšฟ and shaving. Got a nice tan. Those side burns I’ve grown are coming in nicely but I do need a hair cut ๐Ÿ’‡. I’m going to do some trimming myself in the morning as who knows when the barber ๐Ÿ’ˆ is going to be allowed to reopen. My barber is so elderly, I wonder if he will just hang up his hat ๐ŸŽฉ after the pandemic. I decided to avoid the expressway and cities home so I took NY 30 to Duanesburg Churches Road past the Mariaville Farm to US 20. Pretty drive with things greening up outside Amsterdam but I tell you there are some sharp curves on NY 30 south of Amsterdam. ๐Ÿ”ถ

Tonight will be partly cloudy ๐ŸŒค, with a low of 49 degrees at 6am. Five degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around May 21st. West wind 6 to 8 mph. In 2019, we had cloudy skies. It got down to 52 degrees. The record low of 28 occurred back in 1985.

Tonight will have a Waxing Gibbous ๐ŸŒ” Moon with 85% illuminated. At 10 PM, the moon was in the south (175ยฐ) at an altitude of 52ยฐ from the horizon, some 226,511 miles away from where you are looking up from the earth. ๐Ÿš€ At the state speed limit of 55 mph, you’ll make it there by October 22nd. Buckle up for safety! ๐Ÿ’บ The Flower ๐ŸŒท Moon is on Thursday, May 7. The darkest hour is at 12:53 am, followed by dawn at 5:16 am, and sun starting to rise at 5:48 am in the east-northeast (68ยฐ) and last for 3 minutes and 8 seconds. Sunrise is one minute and 19 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ The golden hour ends at 6:27 am with sun in the east-northeast (74ยฐ). Tonight will have 9 hours and 46 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 2 minutes and 24 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will have a slight chance of showers between 11am and 1pm. Partly sunny ๐ŸŒฆ, with a high of 57 degrees at 11am. Nine degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around April 13th. Northwest wind 9 to 18 mph, with gusts as high as 31 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. A year ago, we had light rain in the morning, which became light rain by afternoon. The high last year was 67 degrees. The record high of 91 was set in 1944. There was a dusting of snow in 1986.โ„

Tomorrow I probably should go to the laundromat ๐Ÿ‘–๐Ÿ‘• ๐Ÿ‘š and wash some clothes and probably my sheets too. I can probably bring my laptop there and work from there, uploading pictures from the weekend that was. I’m good on food but the two gallons of milk I bought last week is almost all drunk. I do like my cow ๐Ÿฎ beverages. Other than that I should be good on food until mid week.

As I noted previously, last weekend I got another tick bite. ๐ŸœI was sore found it on Tuesday. Its been weird – sometimes I feel fine other times terribly stiff and sore. No bulls eye though. Went to the doctor on Friday, she kind of thought I didn’t have Lyme but gave me doxycline. ๐Ÿ’Š I held off taking it as I went to the Adirondacks for the weekend and knew doxycline and sun don’t mix due to the risk of severe sunburn. I’m also a little mixed on my concern – it stings from time to time around where I was bit, I’ve been super sleepy at times. ๐Ÿ˜ด I don’t want to take an antibiotic I don’t need. But I guess the doctor while questioning ๐Ÿ™‹ me said I should take it. I don’t know what to think.

It was such a werid experience going to the doctors office during the pandemic. ๐Ÿ˜ซThe doors had big signs warning people that if they had cold or flu symptoms they aren’t welcome and that they did not offer Coronavirus testing there. The whole experience was kind of odd and frightening. ๐Ÿ‘พ

While I’m always cautious about social distancing and wearing a mask out in public places but between the limited vision under the banada, the empty doctors office, the hand sanitizer everywhere and all these things like a special Coronavirus questionnaire that I had to do on my phone before the doctor would see me. ๐Ÿ“ฑ I was so creeped out by the experience.

In four weeks on May 31 the sun will be setting in the west-northwest (301ยฐ) at 8:26 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 27 minutes and 53 seconds later then tonight. In 2019 on that day, we had partly cloudy, mist and temperatures between 76 and 55 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 74 and 52 degrees. The record high of 92 degrees was set back in 2013.

It looks like for Mothers Day it’s going to be cold and they might get snow in the Adirondacks. โ„ It does not look like a good weekend to get out of town. I’m still thinking about a mid May trip out to Schoharie County – maybe three nights with me working from my truck on a Monday. โ›บ I’m thinking the last week of May – the one after Memorial Day Weekend – to do a three night trip to Piseco Powley Road starting that Thursday night before the weekend if it is nice. I hope to have the screen house by then to avoid the bugs. Peak black fly season isn’t so bad if I have shelter during the day as black flies aren’t out after dark. Memorial Day Weekend proper I’ll stay home ๐Ÿก most likely to avoid the crowds especially if other developed campgrounds are closed forcing people into the back country taking up all the good sites. I’m also seriously thinking about planning my summer vacation up at Piseco Powley Road – and a week at the House Pond Swimming Hole could make up for all the state park pools being closed. ๐ŸŠ I’d have to see about getting a camping permit.

Looking ahead, Mothers Day ๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€ is in 1 week, Pack Rat Day ๐Ÿ€ is in 2 weeks, Strawberry Moon ๐ŸŒ• is in 5 weeks, Fathers Day ๐Ÿ‘จ is in 6 weeks, Election Day 2020 ๐Ÿ—ณ๏ธ is in 6 months and Election Day 2020 ๐Ÿ—ณ๏ธ is in 6 months.

๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿฆ…Only 19 days remain until the start of Memorial Day Weekend!๐Ÿฆ…๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ

Tulip Time!

January 19, 2020 Morning

Good morning! Happy Sunday. Next Sunday is 5:30 PM Dusk 🌆. Cloudy and 33 degrees in Delmaritian. โ„ There is a southwest breeze at 5 mph. 🍃. There are 3 1/2 inches of snow on the ground, but it alrasty warm enough that the roads are just wet and with the sun out the snow isn’t expected to last long – the first half of next week will be cool – but come Wednesday we will have temperatures more like March than January. โ˜ƒ ๏ธ

Still not feeling great 😷 but its tough in the winter with the stuffy inside air. I still got up at 6:30 am and made up cornbread 🍞 waffles but I sure feel congested. Nice and warm in the apartment as I turned the heat up yesterday and it’s mild enough this morning that it’s clicked off and well into the mid 60s in my bedroom.

Riding the exercise bike 🚲 and its working good and fairly quiet after lubrication but there is a bit of a rubbing noise from the brake which I set to add more resistance to the pedaling for more cardiovascular effort. I should see if my parents have some unused weights I could use or maybe I could use those big heavy brake disc’s for lifting that is once I clean off all the dust. Lifting those would probably be quite good for upper body strength 💪. Using the brake disc’s might be a better idea as they are something I already have and don’t need more stuff.

Today will become partly sunny 🌦 later on, with a high of 36 degrees at 11am. Six degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around February 19th. Again not real cold but the wind will make it a bit nippy. Southwest wind 5 to 14 mph becoming northwest in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 28 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Total daytime snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning, which became light snow by afternoon. The high last year was 31 degrees. The record high of 62 was set in 1929. 8.5 inches of snow fell back in 1886.โ„

I should go to the store today as I’m really low on dairy products 🐮, I don’t have any cheese or butter which is no fun for sure. I am thinking about getting the stuff to bake bread 🍞 because I haven’t done that in years and I never have bread at home except when my parents give me left over rolls half of which end of getting moldy and tossed into the compost.

Solar noon 🌞 is at 12:07 pm with sun having an altitude of 27ยฐ from the due south horizon (-43.9ยฐ vs. 6/21). The golden hour 🏅 starts at 4:08 pm with the sun in the southwest (235ยฐ). 📸 The sunset is in the west-southwest (243ยฐ) starting at 4:48 pm and lasts for 3 minutes and 16 seconds with dusk around 5:22 pm, which is one minute and 13 seconds later than yesterday. 🌇 The best time to look at the stars is after 5:57 pm. At sunset, look for some remaining snow showers around 🌨 and temperatures around 30 degrees. There will be a west-northwest breeze at 13 mph with gusts up to 28mph. Today will have 9 hours and 30 minutes of daytime, an increase of one minute and 48 seconds over yesterday.

Maybe I’ll also go skiing 🎿. If I do that I’ll probably go down to Schodack Island State Park assuming there is enough sun โ˜€ and the snow doesn’t melt right away. I’m not super sick but with my head congestion I don’t want to over exhaust myself and get sick. 😷

I should do some cleaning today and reading too later. 📖 Maybe get out my soldering iron and repair my wall display. May continue to scrub the soap scum off the walls of my bathroom 🛀

Tonight will be mostly cloudy 🌥, with a low of 12 degrees at 6am. Two degrees below normal. Maximum wind chill around 1 at 5am; Northwest wind 8 to 11 mph, with gusts as high as 23 mph. Going to be fairly cold night and the same is true for Kings birthday 👑. In 2019, we had light snow in the evening, which became snow by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 0 degrees. The record low of -22 occurred back in 1970.

🌹🌻🌼Only 60 days remain until the first day of calendar spring!🌹🌻🌼

That’s always a good sign. 🌷Not sure how long this winter will last but I can’t believe we will get away without at least one more big storm and a cold period. I really am not planning on many big trips until April, as March is always busy at work, even with my new job if only for different reasons.

As previously noted, next Sunday is 5:30 PM Dusk 🌆 when the sun will be setting at 5:00 pm with dusk at 5:30 pm. On that day in 2019, we had partly cloudy and temperatures between 28 and 14 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 31 degrees. We hit a record high of 59 back in 1950.

January 11, 2020 Night

Good evening! Cloudy and 60 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜ Slight breeze to the south. 🍃 The dew point is 53 degrees. Temperatures will drop below freezing at tomorrow around 9 pm. โ˜ƒ๏ธ

One of those unusual but warm January days that it gets up to the sixties. โ™จ Days like that seem happen darn near every year now during the winter as the climate in Albany has warmed so much in recent years that occasionally early summer weather now happens from time to time every winter. While by no means constant it seems like every winter there is at least one night 🌃 nice enough to sit out back for a few hours.

Maybe we just lucked 🍀 out as they got rain โ˜” and cold conditions in Syracuse and Western NY. But I took full advantage of the nice weather to read 📖 out back under a lamp plugged into the truck and the inverter. I doubt it would have been as nice out in Brookfield, they got freezing rain last night. Plus I had a lot to do today with the documentary filming 📹 which came out fine, plus buying groceries and toping off the fuel โ›ฝ in Big Red. I don’t want to let the fuel not stay close to full in case Trump 🎺 does something crazy with Iran and blow up the global oil markets.

I brought my reusable bag to Walmart 🛄 but apparently they still had plastic bags. I guess it’s good to get back in the habit. I am still thinking about getting plastic milk crates 💭 to bring my groceries home as they’re easier to hose off and handle. I checked to see if they had anything similar in store but I couldn’t find any. It looks like I could order them online though. I have an old milk crate around for my paper 📄 trash for recycling โ™ป but I want something cleaner for bringing food home.

Only spent $42 on groceries this week, although after getting home I wish I had gotten more pasta sauce 🍝 and pan spray. Also butter. I probably should have made a list 📃. I don’t normally go shopping on the weekdays but this week I might have to run to the store or maybe I can stop on the bus ride home.

Tonight will have showers likely, then showers and possibly a thunderstorm after 3am. Some of the storms could produce gusty winds and heavy rain. 🌧 Low of 59 degrees at 10pm. 44 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around June 19th. Maximum dew point of 57 at 3am. 🏖๏ธ South wind around 17 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. In 2019, we had clear skies in the evening, which became cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 12 degrees. The record low of -26 occurred back in 1968.

Tonight will have a Waning Gibbous 🌖 Moon with 98% illuminated. The darkest hour is at 12:04 am, followed by dawn at 6:54 am, and sun starting to rise at 7:25 am in the east-southeast (120ยฐ) and last for 3 minutes and 20 seconds. Sunrise is 17 seconds earlier than yesterday. 🌄 The golden hour ends at 8:10 am with sun in the southeast (127ยฐ) at an altitude of 6ยฐ. Tonight will have 14 hours and 41 minutes of darkness, a decrease of one minute and 25 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will have showers likely, mainly before 10am. Mostly sunny, with a temperature rising to near 62 by 8am, then falling to around 39 during the remainder of the day. Breezy, with a south wind 14 to 21 mph becoming northwest in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 31 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. The high last year was 26 degrees. The record high of 63 was set in 2018. 12.8 inches of snow fell back in 2011.โ„

I’d like to go out for a walk in the morning walk 🚶 before it gets cold out later in the day but it all depends on how long the rain โ˜” sticks around. I plan on getting up at 6:30 am tomorrow to maintain healthy sleep habits and maximize my day. If it’s decent out at dawn I’ll go for a walk right away or otherwise I’ll make a queche. 🍳 Even if it is nice enough to walk I’ll probably make the queche when I get home.

Reality hits in the morning, and I’ll have to close my windows. โฌœ Always werid to hear the road noise and people talking out on the street with the windows open. But I’m definitely enjoying the fresh air. Earlier I didn’t have the windows open but after I heard some one on Facebook talking about their windows open and the fact it was so mild earlier I decided my windows must be open tonight. I didn’t open the storm windows in my bedroom, just the other ones.

In four weeks on February 8 the sun will be setting in the west-southwest (250ยฐ) at 5:17 pm,🌄 which is 35 minutes and 14 seconds later then tonight. In 2019 on that day, we had rain showers, cloudy and temperatures between 45 and 25 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 33 and 16 degrees. The record high of 52 degrees was set back in 1925.

I was kind of hoping to get camping next weekend โ›บ but it looks like the mild weather won’t last and next Saturday might actually be a big snow storm. โ„ It’s a long ways off but it looks like some cold weather is pushing in after tomorrow morning and it will be cold and probably much more snowy the second half of the month. I’ll forget about sleeping 😴 with the windows open until late March or early April during the next big heat bubble.

Looking ahead, Winnie the Pooh Day 🍯 is in 1 weeks, 5 PM Sunset 🌆 is in 2 weeks, February 🌧 is in 3 weeks, Don’t Cry over Spilled Milk Day 🥛 is a month away, Average High is 50 🌸 is in 11 weeks, Average High is 60 🌼 is in 14 weeks, Average High is 70 🐮 is in 18 weeks, Memorial Day Weekend Starts 🏕๏ธ is in 19 weeks, Last Day of Session 🏛 is in 23 weeks and Summer ๏ธโ›ฑ๏ธ is in 23 weeks.

I better think about sleeping 😴. I’m tired and I plan once again to be awake by 6:30 am tomorrow. I might even start getting up at six come the summer and doing a morning walk 🚶 before the heat of the day. But for now I want to maintain a constant sleep schedule for good health. It’s going to be so nice sleeping with the windows open!
