Happy Earth Day! 🌎
Going to be a beautiful day for riding to work. Carrot pancakes, need to stop at Hannaford to get bananas on the way in as a snack as I’ve not been shopping this week. Felt good to toss that empty plastic milk bottle in the trash on Earth Day knowing soon enough I’ll get it burnt, lol. Makes an excellent fire starter. Gotta celebrate Vladmir Lennin’s birthday with a little black smoke, as you turn the dirt with your plow or spreading manure on this Earth Day.

Didn’t get a real early start 🛏 as when I first awoke I had a bit of nausea like I had been spinning. 🤯But once I finally got out of bed, got some coffee and carrot 🥕 pancakes 🥞 in me I was feeling better. I think I just have a bad case of the Monday’s. I am looking forward to the ride to work today, going to be a nice day. The weekend was cloudy, colder and wetter then expected but I had a lot of fun in the woods and a nice fire 🔥, rode some trail 🚵 and went for a nice five mile hike at Huyck Preserve.

Also need to get more milk at Stewart’s. I know more plastic!

I think it’s interesting how the greenies this year are focusing on single use plastics 💚 on Earth Day. Gets a little bit silly but I think they needed a new issue as they got their climate legislation through on the state level 🌎 but only time will tell what the effect is beyond using a lot of farm land and forest for massive solar farms. I’d be more concerned about the really toxic things in garbage today like all the electronics commonly discarded. ☠️ Or all the wasted building materials not the silly little plastic water bottles that are a tiny part of waste production made out of the least toxic forms of plastic – polyethylene. ♻ I really should get milk 🥛 delivery set up with Meadow Brook but it’s a pain having to call as they don’t have a website, and at least in the winter months I do recycle most of the discarded Stewart’s milk bottles. I wish they still had milk in glass for less trash like Byrne Dairy does. 🐮 I don’t drink as much milk as I once did since getting into healthy eating, preferring to drink more water from the tap, 🚰 but I still think those milk bottles take up much too much room in the trash or the recycle ♻️ when so inclined.

It would be nice to spend some time in the wilderness, have a good fire 🔥 and ride trail or explore the back country 🚵 before black flies are out in mass, 🦟 but only if the weather ain’t shit. 💩 I kind of want to wait until things green up 🌱 before heading out to Schoharie County to camp, and eat fresh ramps I found in the woods, and ride the Catskill Scenic Trail from Stamford to Bloomville 🚵♂️ and back again, enjoying the colors of spring and the smell of all that freshly turned dirt.🚜 Maybe that will be Mother’s Day Weekend.

Lately I’ve not been doing evening blog posts 📝 but it’s a fairly nice evening for sitting out back at least by December standards. 🎄 I have my coat 🧥 on but I’m comfortable as there isn’t a breeze. I figure the more time I spend outside, the less chances of catching the COVID.
Speaking of the COVID, 👾 that New York Times county level COVID data 🤓 is quite interesting and I am going to experiment with it for making maps and other content for the blog over the weekend. I also want to do more reading 📖 on the book 📙 I got about homesteading, 🚜 and do some soldering projects. Definitely get dreaming about a better tomorrow, looking at all that rural land on Zillow. 🐮
Except for the rainy Tuesday morning and my lazy then rainy Monday 🚶🏻, I’ve been walking every 12 hours around the 2.5 mile super block around the high school 🚸. It’s good exercise although I a admit I’m getting a bit bored with it. It just feels so redudent but it’s good exercise and a safe walk at night without many road crossings although part of the walkway is pretty dark this time of year. I do go opposite directions in my morning and evening walks. No walking tomorrow with the cold rain expected.
Did a quick wash of my truck today, went to the store and the library to work. 🖥 I also bought a small space heater fan, ♨ something I thought about getting for years but never did. But working at home this winter ❄ I wanted something I could turn on to quickly warm my hands 👐🏻 especially after walking outdoors without heating the whole apartment by raising the main gas radiators downstairs or the expensive to operate electric baseboard upstairs which I’m loath to operate and always stink the few times I do use them. Plus now I’m well stocked on groceries for the weekend. 🍲

So far this autumn has been pretty warm most nights ♨, so freeze warnings ⚠ have been fairly occasional even though November is right around the corner. 🦃But today was a more seasonable day so I’m not shocked 😲. Warm enough earlier I had the windows open ⬜ but now they are definitely closed as it’s gotten cold. ⬛
Exploring the Touhey Preserve was interesting 🍂🦃🐾🐿️ but it’s pretty small with only one loop trail and a few views but it’s certainly not something I’d make a special trip to visit. Five Rivers was about the same, 🐦 🕊 🦆🦗 maybe a bit more crowded than I would expect on a Saturday evening and the sun sets pretty early this time of year.

I was disappointed to hear the RIAA issued a cease and desist order to get the youtube-dl program 📺 ⬇️ taken down from github. While I have the software for now I’m sure the YouTube website 🕸 will be updated and the old program won’t no longer work. So no more downloading YouTube videos to watch at home. That said, I’m sure there will be other websites off shore that I can go to download YouTube videos or maybe even other non United States sites will provide updates to youtube-dl. 🗺 One good thing about the internet is that if one country takes something offline it typically goes off shore, especially with software that has many legal uses and with something like this that’s a python script that is easy to patch and fix.

It was nice hiking up at Partridge Run 🦆 although while I saw some common field birds and a few Ruffled Grouse not a lot of wildlife but it may have been the time of day. 🐿 So many chipmunks but the woods is so full of rodents lately.
Had a really nice Sunday dinner with the folks 🍲 and brought home some leftovers for later in the week. I had to tap my brakes when I saw a deer 🦌 and it fell off the seat but it was fine. Also mom made a good apple 🍏 pie 🥧.
