It was dark out that 6:45 am bike ride ๐Ÿšฒ

As it’s a session day and I have to dress up for work, I couldn’t ride into work and decided rather than go for a walk I’d go for a ride before showering. But it was still quite dark and I needed the lights on my bike when I started out.

Good morning! First session day of the year. All my dress shirts and pants are much too big. With the sun now up, it’s cloudy and 33 degrees in Delmar. โ˜๏ธ Calm wind. Temperatures will drop below freezing at tomorrow around 1 am. โ˜ƒ๏ธ

Figured get an early start on the bike ๐Ÿšด‍โ™€๏ธ as I wasn’t going to bike into work or take the stairs up to my office. Decided to do a seven mile bike ride out to Meads Lane, but even at quarter to seven, with the late winter sunrise and clouds, it was dark, especially once I got beyond the streetlights. That said, the lights on my bike work pretty good, and I should be quite visible to drivers especially with my blaze-orange vest on. ๐Ÿฆบ I am hoping soon there is more daylight though, as I would prefer to ride to walk in the morning, just because you burn calories quicker, plus I find walking rather then biking after breakfast can give me the urge to go ๐Ÿ’ฉ and that rush back home to the toilet ๐Ÿšฝ is never fun, especially if you risk saturating your pants.

I guess my dress clothes don’t fit all that great ๐Ÿ‘” but the way I look at it I’ll keep an eye out for sales on dress shirts and pants, replace one or two pairs of the most worn out clothes, and as time goes on replace others. Like I’ve done with the rest of my non-dress clothes. I finally put the 40 inch jeans away, as they are much too loose, ๐Ÿ“ as I generally wear 34 inches, though I have some 36s I also wear though they’re a bit too big. Likewise, most of the clothes I wear most frequently now are large-tall or extra-large, though I do have some old 2x shirts I’ll wear casually, but they’re quite baggy. I should head back to Salvation Army and see what I can get, especially for more business casual clothes — some of the best stuff I have has come from there, often much higher quality then what I could get at the stores. ๐Ÿ‘จ‍๐Ÿ’ผ

Today will have a chance of flurries before 11am. Mostly cloudy โ›… , with a high of 41 degrees at 2pm. Seven degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around March 3rd. Calm wind becoming west 5 to 7 mph. A year ago, we had mist in the morning, which became light rain by afternoon. The high last year was 37 degrees. The record high of 61 was set in 1913. 12.0 inches of snow fell back in 2003.โ„ I remember that snow storm when I was a student as Hudson Valley Community College.

This morning I got baking with two loaves of bread in the oven ๐Ÿฅ– ๐Ÿž — one rye and onion bread, the other whole-wheat oatmeal bread. I had some of the whole-wheat oatmeal bread with my eggs and veggies for breakfast ๐Ÿณ and also cooked up some black beans and spaghetti squash. Not making black beans soup this time, ๐Ÿฒ instead going to have the black beans with lunch and other meals. I thought about making rice and lentils but maybe later in the week. Also pulled out some stew that mom made a few weeks back from the freezer to heat up for dinner tonight. ๐Ÿšถ‍โ™€๏ธ This evening I do want to do a walk.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:00 pm with sun having an altitude of 24.5° from the due south horizon (-46.3° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 13.2 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 3:49 pm with the sun in the southwest (231°). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-southwest (239°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 4:34 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 23 seconds with dusk around 5:05 pm, which is 54 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 5:42 pm. At sunset, look for mostly cloudy skies โ˜ and temperatures around 39 degrees. There will be a calm wind. Today will have 9 hours and 11 minutes of daytime, an increase of 52 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will have isolated snow showers after 1am. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 29 degrees at 6am. 11 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around March 24th. Light southwest wind. Chance of precipitation is 20%. In 2023, we had light rain in the evening, which became cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 37 degrees. The record low of -15 occurred back in 1904.

Cloudy with a growing chance of snow come Sunday. ๐ŸŒจ I’m not ready to call a blizzard though for Sunday, I think they’re a bit dramatic on the tele. Saturday, mostly cloudy, with a high near 33. Sunday, snow likely before 1pm, then a chance of rain and snow. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 34. Chance of precipitation is 60%. Typical average high for the weekend is 33 degrees.

Looking ahead, there are 6 weeks until Valentines Day โค๏ธ when the sun will be setting at 5:26 pm with dusk at 5:54 pm. On that day in 2023, we had partly sunny, mild and temperatures between 50 and 30 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 36 degrees. We hit a record high of 63 back in 1946.

Snow Flies

Had Some Sun

While clouds prevailed during most of the Save the Pine Bush, we did have some breaks of sun, throughout the day.

February 14, 2023 Evening

Good evening! Happy Valentines Day Eve. February is halfway done and tomorrow is going to be warm enough to open up the windows and let some fresh air in. That makes me happy.

Mostly clear and 43 degrees for the evening walk ๐Ÿšถ here in Delmar. ๐ŸŒƒ Calm wind. With those clear skies cooling off quickly. But it will rebound quickly tomorrow as we have our first real spring thaw.

I was pleasantly surprised that I got released at 5 o’clock on this Valentines Day โ™ฅ and was able to take the express bus ๐Ÿš home. It’s nice having that option on a session day though who knows how long it will last as there isn’t a lot of riders right now heading out to Slingerlands or Voorheesville at least not on 5 pm bus which is less popular than the earlier express bus. The thing is that some of the former riders retired and more people nowadays are able to do hybrid or work from home ๐Ÿก. Our department wants that option but the people up top say no. Getting hard though to be competitive without that option.

It was annoying this morning that the ramp to 787 was closed again. ๐Ÿšง I wish they could wait until the off hours or at least until the end of rush hour. I don’t understand their decision making process on that. To boot the express bus ๐Ÿš was 20 minutes late due to the driver making a wrong term. I ended up walking ๐Ÿšถ most of the way to the Park and Ride as I wanted to get more steps in and it was a very pleasant morning.

Tonight will have increasing clouds โ˜, with a low of 31 degrees at 1am. 13 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around March 30th. Light and variable wind becoming south 5 to 10 mph after midnight. In 2022, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became light snow by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 17 degrees. The record low of -22 occurred back in 1943.

Got paid today ๐Ÿ’ต and it looks like my bills aren’t as bad as I thought they would be. I might actually have a bit extra, I might start adding more to the savings account, the first time I’ve saved money in a year but interest rates are going up and I’m concerned more about mid range expenses.

Tonight will have a Waining Crescent ๐ŸŒ˜ Moon with 33% illuminated. The Worm ๐Ÿ› Moon is on Thursday, March 2. The darkest hour is at 12:11 am, followed by dawn at 6:26 am, and sun starting to rise at 6:55 am in the east-southeast (107ยฐ) and last for 3 minutes and 2 seconds. Sunrise is one minute and 21 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ The golden hour ends at 7:35 am with sun in the east-southeast (114ยฐ). Tonight will have 13 hours and 23 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 2 minutes and 40 seconds over last night.

Been really digging into the ins and outs of machine learning. ๐Ÿค– Lately I’ve been about better ways to target ๐ŸŽฏ and estimate voting patterns using election results and the enrollment rolls. It would be interesting if you could target based on actual past results and demographics. I have used imputation in the past for making maps and are considering other ways I could use machine learning to better understand data. Decision trees ๐ŸŽ„ and random forests are particularly interesting methods.

Tomorrow will be cloudy through mid morning, then gradual clearing ๐ŸŒƒ, with a high of 58 degrees at 3pm. 22 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around April 12th. Breezy, with a south wind 13 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 34 mph. A year ago, we had cloudy skies in the morning with a few breaks of sun the afternoon. The high last year was 23 degrees. The record high of 55 was set in 2006. 9.0 inches of snow fell back in 1894.โ„

I think tomorrow will be a good day to have the windows open ๐Ÿ”ณ and let all that fresh air in. ๐Ÿƒ While I’ll probably only open windows without storm windows it should be nice to enjoy the fresh air.

In four weeks on March 14 the sun will be setting in the west (268ยฐ) at 7:01 pm (Daylight Savings Time),๐ŸŒ„ which is one hour, 34 minutes and 36 seconds later then tonight. In 2021 on that day, we had partly sunny and temperatures between 41 and 19 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 44 and 25 degrees. The record high of 75 degrees was set back in 1946.

Looking ahead, Average High is 40 โ˜€๏ธ is Next Tuesday, First Day of Spring ๐Ÿ’ฎ is in 5 weeks, Average High is 50 ๐ŸŒธ is in 6 weeks, Mothers Day ๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€ is in 3 months, Primary Day ๐Ÿ—ณ๏ธ is in 18 weeks, Independence Day ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ is in 20 weeks, World Population Day ๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿ‘งโ€๐Ÿ‘ง is in 21 weeks, National Nude Day ๐Ÿ‘ฑ is in 5 months, August ๐ŸŒป is in 24 weeks, Halloween ๐ŸŽƒ is in 37 weeks, Average High is 50 ๐Ÿ‚ is in 9 months, Election Day ๐Ÿ—ณ๏ธ is in 9 months, Repeal of Prohibition Day ๐Ÿบ is in 42 weeks and Boxing Day ๐ŸฅŠ is in 45 weeks.

Starting Up the Spruceton Trail

February 14, 2023 Morning

Good morning! Happy Valentines Day. โ™ฅ Finally warm and bright enough to walk at 6:15. I think it’s the first time in months. But the days are getting longer. It’s a nice dawn, with a declining half ๐ŸŒ— moon above. Not sure if it will be the best sunrise ever though due to the clouds in the east.

Mostly cloudy and 37 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜ Breezy, ๏ธ18 mph breeze from the northwest ๐ŸŒฌ with gusts up to 28 mph ๐Ÿ’จ๐Ÿ’จ๐Ÿ’จ. But it’s a fairly warm breeze by February standards. Temperatures will drop below freezing at Friday around 3 pm. โ˜ƒ๏ธ

It’s nice to get out early, it tends to better equalize the time in the morning ๐Ÿฅš to have breakfast and get my clothes ironed before work and shower ๐Ÿšฟ. Having a single pool of time โŒš just means if one step runs longer I don’t fall behind on my SC especially as the express leaves about 15 minutes before the local.

Today will be mostly cloudy, then gradually becoming sunny โ˜, with a high of 47 degrees at 2pm. 11 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around March 20th. Northwest wind 13 to 18 mph decreasing to 7 to 12 mph in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 28 mph. A year ago, we had cloudy skies in the morning with a few breaks of sun the afternoon. The high last year was 28 degrees. The record high of 63 was set in 1946. 23.5 inches of snow fell back in 1914.โ„

Going to be a nice day, something like the first day of calendar spring. ๐ŸŒท But then again that’s only a month away and it’s been quite mild. Too much sunlight in the morning means I have to draw the shades but later in the afternoon the sun is nice. Not sure if I’ll get out at five to take the express home but so be it.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:11 pm with sun having an altitude of 34.3ยฐ from the due south horizon (-36.5ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 8.8 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 4:46 pm with the sun in the west-southwest (246ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ

The sunset is in the west-southwest (253ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 5:26 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 2 seconds with dusk around 5:54 pm, which is one minute and 18 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 6:28 pm. At sunset, look for clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 43 degrees. There will be a northwest breeze at 6 mph. Tomorrow will have 10 hours and 37 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 41 seconds over today..

Today is pay day which is nice ๐Ÿ’ต as I think my credit card bill is due soon ๐Ÿ’ณ and it’s been higher with inflation and the many trips that I made this year. Probably also need to start saving for my tax bill and car insurance ๐Ÿš™ which will be another chunk of change. But it looks like until Friday my heat will be off which is good.

Tonight will have increasing clouds โ˜, with a low of 32 degrees at 11pm. 14 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around April 2nd. Light and variable wind becoming south 6 to 11 mph after midnight. In 2022, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became light snow by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 17 degrees. The record low of -22 occurred back in 1943.

Right now, a split verdict on the weekend. ๐Ÿ˜• Saturday, sunny, with a high near 38. Sunday, mostly cloudy, with a high near 47. Typical average high for the weekend is 37 degrees.

Fairly mild but maybe cloudy โ›… for the second half of the weekend. I guess it would be kind of nice to get out of town this weekend. โ›บ There isn’t a lot of snow outside of the Adirondacks so trails might be muddy especially after Thursdays rain.

As previously noted, there are 2 weeks until Average High is 40 โ˜€๏ธ when the sun will be setting at 5:44 pm with dusk at 6:11 pm. On that day in 2022, we had mostly cloudy, rain showers and temperatures between 41 and 26 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 40 degrees. We hit a record high of 63 back in 1903.

 Bitting

May 14, 2021 Morning

Good morning! Yeah, it’s Friday! Nice to be up north on a Friday, doing remote work, although it seems like the fun is coming to the end with a new CDC guidance and the desire for normalcy. ๐Ÿ‘จ‍๐Ÿ’ป Back to old ways on the bus and in the office. But for the past year, I’ve been able to spend a lot of summer up in the woods with my hotspot and phone. Two weeks to Memorial Day Weekend Starts ๐Ÿ•๏ธ . Sunny and 49 degrees in Speculator, NY. ๐ŸŒž There is a west breeze at 5 mph. ๐Ÿƒ.

A beautiful morning to start out the day, ๐Ÿ˜Ž and with the sun and clear skies. I am going to work from the screen tent this morning and my hotspot, but will probably head in mid-day to town to get some lunch and ice cream, and the my afternoon zoom meeting I’ll do at the Spectulator Library wi-fi. Maybe sit down by the lake in the afternoon ๐Ÿ’ป with the laptop. I got to say it’s fun while it lasted, although  it seems like there is a lot of discussion what the future is — people like remote work, and if the work is getting done, who really cares if it’s happening in a cubicle downtown or up in the wilderness. ๐ŸŒฒ The world of smartphones and laptops isn’t the world of 1970 any more. ๐Ÿ“ฑ Things are changing.

Had a nice fire last night, ๐Ÿ”ฅ and sat out and looked at the stars for a while โœจ although I didn’t stay up super late as it was an early start yesterday, as I had to make it to Speculator by 9 AM to clock in and get started for work — although admittedly I started my day in Wells, because I was running late. Kind of a busy day at work, lot of meetings and emails, but I got to spend a little time down at Lake Pleasant with a book in the evening before heading back to camp to get things set up. ๐Ÿณ Eggs and sausage for breakfast today, it was nice to sit outside for a while before the black flies got to bad. ๐Ÿœ

Today will have increasing clouds โ˜, with a high of 68 degrees at 4pm. Three degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around May 6th. Northwest wind 5 to 9 mph. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning with a few breaks of sun the afternoon. The high last year was 70 degrees. The record high of 93 was set in 1900.

I may have to be a bit careful about managing my energy resources by the end of the day ๐Ÿ”‹ but for now things should be well charged. The important thing is having enough power for the laptop, ๐Ÿ’ป I can live with having reduced power tonight, as tomorrow will be sunny and I’m planning to head somewhere else in the Adirondacks and the alternator can top things off so I should be good for the rest of the weekend. I want to camp somewhere tomorrow where I don’t have cell reception, so I can have some time off the grid where I’m not constantly bombarded by news and happenings. ๐Ÿคซ I want to do some reading this weekend ๐Ÿ“š and not be constantly playing on the Facebook or TikTok.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:55 pm with sun having an altitude of 65.2° from the due south horizon (-4.7° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 2.8 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 7:34 pm with the sun in the west-northwest (290°). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-northwest (297°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 8:15 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 18 seconds with dusk around 8:47 pm, which is one minute and 5 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the Waxing Crescent ๐ŸŒ’ Moon in the west-northwest (283°) at an altitude of 24° from the horizon, 249,065 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 9:29 pm. At sunset, look for clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 57 degrees. There will be a west-northwest breeze at 7 mph. Today will have 14 hours and 41 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 10 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be mostly clear ๐ŸŒƒ, with a low of 37 degrees at 4am. 11 degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around April 16th. Northwest wind 5 to 7 mph. In 2020, we had cloudy skies in the evening, which became partly cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 57 degrees. The record low of 31 occurred back in 1977.

This evening I will be participating in the Zoom between John Wolcott and Don Rittner. ๐ŸŽ™Yes, remotely from the Adirondacks. It should be a real interesting one for sure, although I doubt I’ll be doing much of the talking. But if I have questions, all I ask them. ๐Ÿ“น It should be a very interesting discussion. My new phone has good service where I am camping, which is good both for this interview and remote work.

Tomorrow will be mostly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 68 degrees at 4pm. Three degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around May 6th. West wind 5 to 8 mph. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning with a few breaks of sun the afternoon. The high last year was 84 degrees. The record high of 93 was set in 1900.

I haven’t totally decided where I will hike tomorrow, ๐Ÿƒ‍โ™€๏ธ but I have some ideas, mostly around Spectulator. I wouldn’t mind a hike up Watch Hill again but I don’t think the road past Mason Lake is open yet for the summer. ๐Ÿ˜ž Otherwise, that would be a nice hike and place to camp. I thought about Hope Falls Road, but I want to stay up through Monday, that’s pretty far south if I am coming back north to work on Monday. ๐Ÿ’ญ So I don’t really know — but I want to spend much of the weekend off the grid.

Looking ahead to Sunday, scattered showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 2pm. Mostly sunny, with a high near 68. Northwest wind 3 to 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. Maximum dew point of 43 at 8pm. Typical average high for the weekend is 71 degrees.

I could head home on Sunday, but Monday looks nice enough that I should try to get one more day in working from Spectulator. ๐Ÿ‘จ‍๐Ÿ’ป It going to be back to riding the bus and big office ๐Ÿ‘จ‍๐Ÿ’ผ for the second half of the week, so you got to take advantage of what you can, when you can. I’m a little bummed out that panademic is ending but I really also understand the benefits of in-person work, the social interactions and emotions conveyed at are missing over email โœ‰๏ธ, phone ๐Ÿ“ž and the Zoom. ๐Ÿ“น At least I feel good knowing that as a vaccinated person, ๐Ÿ’‰ I won’t have to worry about getting very sick from the COVID and mask wearing isn’t required ๐Ÿ˜ท except on buses, stores, and common places — mainly because the law, not because it will make me safer. Studies are pretty clear that the COVID vaccine is safe and very protective. โš— My hats off to the scientists that developed it.

As previously noted, there are 2 weeks until Memorial Day Weekend Starts ๐Ÿ•๏ธ when the sun will be setting at 8:28 pm with dusk at 9:02 pm. On that day in 2020, we had hot and humid weather that was mostly cloudy and temperatures between 83 and 68 degrees. I remember it well, I was working in Spectulator. Typically, the high temperature is 75 degrees. We hit a record high of 93 back in 2016.

I don’t anticipate going back to the Adirondacks for Memorial Day Weekend โ›บ this year as I expect to be fairly busy with work and the bugs are bad and things are crowded. Maybe next weekend I’ll do Madison County or maybe that will wait until June. I thought about the Green Mountains but I’d have to camp where I have good reception ๐Ÿ“ถ. I’ll have to think about it more.

At the creek

December 4, 2020 Morning

Good morning! Happy Average High is 40 ๐ŸŒจ! First Friday of December, 5 weeks until New Years Day 2021. Two weeks to Bake Cookies Day ๐Ÿช. Santa ๐ŸŽ…๐Ÿฟ would approve, especially with a cold glass of milk ๐Ÿฅ› produced by an Upstate NY dairy farm ๐Ÿฎ . Mostly cloudy and 39 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜ There is a south breeze at 7 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. Temperatures will drop below freezing at tomorrow around 9 pm. โ˜ƒ๏ธ

Mild but gray this morning. ๐ŸŒฅ A few breaks of the clouds to the southwest but warm enough to be just wear the vest and the long sleeve shirt this morning. No snow yet locally ๐ŸŒจ but some of the higher elevations have a dusting according to NOAA estimates and pictures I’ve seen on social media. A year ago was much more snowy โ˜ƒ but it didn’t last. I’m hopeful it won’t be too snowy this next week and I can get out of town next week.

Yesterday despite my ambitious plans ๐Ÿก I ended up working from home and just reading ๐Ÿ“– in the evening about farming ๐Ÿšœ and watching some YouTube videos I previously downloaded. Today at lunch time I’m going to run to the store, do a quick wash of my truck ๐Ÿšš and then I’ll go to the library in my warmed up truck for the Zoom Meeting ๐Ÿ‘ฅ and get podcasts and any YouTube videos that I might want to watch at home.

Today will have a slight chance of showers after noon. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฆ, with a high of 47 degrees at 1pm. Seven degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around November 19th. South wind 7 to 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. A year ago, we had cloudy skies in the morning with more sun in the afternoon. The high last year was 36 degrees. The record high of 63 was set in 1998. 6.0 inches of snow fell back in 1901.โ„

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 11:47 am with sun having an altitude of 25.1ยฐ from the due south horizon (-45.8ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 12.8 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 3:38 pm with the sun in the southwest (232ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-southwest (240ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 4:23 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 22 seconds with dusk around 4:53 pm, which is 12 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 5:30 pm. At sunset, look for rain showers ๐ŸŒง and temperatures around 45 degrees. There will be a south breeze at 9 mph. Tomorrow will have 9 hours and 11 minutes of daytime, a decrease of one minute and 8 seconds over today.

Tonight will have a slight chance of rain showers before 3am, then a chance of rain and snow showers. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 35 degrees at 3am. 10 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around November 3rd. South wind 5 to 8 mph becoming calm after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Little or no snow accumulation expected. In 2019, we had clear skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 28 degrees. The record low of 2 occurred back in 1989.

Tomorrow will have a chance of rain and snow before 8am, then a chance of rain between 8am and 2pm, then a chance of rain and snow after 2pm. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a high of 40 degrees at 10am. Typical for temperatures. North wind 6 to 16 mph, with gusts as high as 29 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50%. Little or no snow accumulation expected. A year ago, we had cloudy skies in the morning with more sun in the afternoon. The high last year was 38 degrees. The record high of 65 was set in 2001. 9.0 inches of snow fell back in 1902.โ„

Looking ahead to Sunday, mostly sunny, with a high near 35. ๐ŸŒž Northwest wind 11 to 14 mph. Typical average high for the weekend is 40 degrees. Cool but sunny. No ambitious plans for Sunday but I’ll probably bundle up and head out somewhere with the binoculars to look at the wildlife ๐Ÿ•Š๏ธ๐Ÿฆ‰ and the winter birds.

As previously noted, there are 2 weeks until Bake Cookies Day ๐Ÿช when the sun will be setting at 4:23 pm with dusk at 4:55 pm. On that day in 2019, we had partly sunny skies with snow showers and temperatures between 36 and 14 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 35 degrees. We hit a record high of 60 back in 1921. A few years before my time.

Blizzard

November 24, 2020 Morning

Good morning! Happy Tuesday. Next Tuesday is December ๐ŸŽ„. Partly cloudy and one degree above freezing for my morning walk. โ›… There is a northwest breeze at 11 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. Definitely a nice sunny morning although a bit breezy. The sun is a welcome change, it’s been so cloudy and gray lately. But that’s normal for November.

After missing my morning walk ๐Ÿšถ๐Ÿป the past few days, it’s a beautiful day for sure. Brisk but that’s to be expected in late November. I really enjoy the fresh air and sat out back last night for a couple of minutes until it got too cold out. ๐ŸŒƒ I hate when I miss my walk but sometimes the weather doesn’t cooperate. ๐ŸŒง๏ธ

I am heading downtown ๐Ÿš for a while for meetings and paperwork. ๐Ÿ“„ I washed my mask ๐Ÿ˜ท and it’s hanging out to dry now. I am going to shower ๐Ÿšฟ and bring my laptops ๐Ÿ’ปto use at work. I told John Wolcott I’d be over later this afternoon to continue looking at old files. ๐Ÿ“‚

Today will be sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 39 degrees at 1pm. Five degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around December 6th. Northwest wind 7 to 14 mph. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning, remaining cloudy in the afternoon. The high last year was 41 degrees. The record high of 70 was set in 2014. 8.8 inches of snow fell back in 1898.โ„

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 11:43 am with sun having an altitude of 26.7ยฐ from the due south horizon (-44.1ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 11.9 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 3:44 pm with the sun in the southwest (235ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-southwest (242ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 4:27 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 17 seconds with dusk around 4:56 pm, which is 35 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the Waxing Gibbous ๐ŸŒ” Moon in the southeast (127ยฐ) at an altitude of 29ยฐ from the horizon, 249,985 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 5:33 pm. At sunset, look for mostly clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 36 degrees. There will be a northwest breeze at 7 mph. Today will have 9 hours and 27 minutes of daytime, a decrease of one minute and 45 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will have a chance of snow, mainly between 2am and 5am. Increasing clouds ๐ŸŒจ, with a low of 28 degrees at 9pm. One degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around November 27th. Calm wind becoming southeast around 6 mph after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible. In 2019, we had cloudy skies in the evening, which became light drizzle by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 36 degrees. The record low of 2 occurred back in 1938.

The propane lantern stopped working again. ๐ŸฎNo gas through it at all. I disassembled it and cleaned the valve with WD 40 and blew it out with compressed air but didn’t have any luck. Still not passing any propane. Months ago I discovered it was caked with black carbon which I removed. The lanterns are $29 at Wally World so I think I might just get another one and save the old one for parts – namely the glass globe which costs like $10 and I manage to break every few years. While I have electric lights, the propane lantern uses very little fuel and is bright ๐Ÿ”† and doesn’t shut off on under voltage. I will however run this lantern through the extra Big Buddy filter to avoid issues with it plugging in the future.

A picture perfect weekend on tap. ๐Ÿ˜Ž Saturday, partly sunny, with a high near 49. Sunday, sunny, with a high near 47. Typical average high for the weekend is 43 degrees.

I am still planning on heading to the Adirondacks this weekend. โ›บ It will be for two nights. While I certainly want to avoid the Black Friday crowds during the pandemic ๐Ÿคง I think I can get in and out of Hannaford on Friday on my way up avoiding the crowds. In my experience, Buy Nothing Day usually means the grocery stores are pretty empty. ๐Ÿ›’ People still have a lot of turkey ๐Ÿฆƒ to eat the next day.

As previously noted, next Tuesday is December ๐ŸŽ„ when the sun will be setting at 4:23 pm with dusk at 4:54 pm. On that day in 2019, we had snow and temperatures between 28 and 17 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 41 degrees. We hit a record high of 67 back in 1934.
