Hiking Back to Pharaoh Mountain from Crane Lake Road

Pharaoh Mountain is located about 10 miles east of Schroon Lake, and can be accessed from the Long Swing / Pharaoh Mountain Trail from the North along with a much steeper and longer trail from Pharaoh Lake from south.

If you choose to take the infamous and rough Crane Pond Truck Trail to it’s end, and then park at Crane Pond, it’s only about a 3 1/2 mile hike up the mountain. If you stop at Alder Pond, and don’t drive through the shallow end of Alder Pond to get to the last mile of Crane Pond Road, then it’s a 4 1/2 mile hike each way.

Where Crane Pond Road Crosses Alder Pond

Below is Alder Pond. It was an amazing morning, as the rain let up and started to clear off. The truck trail cuts through the end of the pond, and with the recent rains, it was deeper then I wanted to take my old pickup through.

 Across Alder Pond

At end of Crane Pond Road is Crane Pond (not surpisingly!) There is a parking area here, and Crane Pond is known for it’s good fishing and beauty.

Crane Pond

Reaching Glidden Marsh on the Pharaoh Mountain Trail. Pharoah Mountain is in the distance, with the peak sticking up. Most of the trail is relatively flat, until you reach the mountain, and then you start climbing.

 Glidden Marsh Through Trees

About halfway up there, there is the most charming little water fall.

Small Waterfall

As you climb, views become progressively better.

Clearing Out to Be Quite Nice

Reaching the summit, there are views in almost all directions, although you have to wonder around the top of the mountain to get all views. Here is looking North-East toward Ticonderoga. You can see Lake Champlain in the distance — barely, along with Crane Pond, Alder Pond, Oxbow Lake, and other features up close.

North East

On the northernly view, you have nice views of the High Peaks Region of the Adirondacks, with Mount Marcy and Alonquin Mountains peaking out top.

 Mount Marcy

To the south-west, there are view of Gore Mountain (ski trails still with snow on it as of April 11).

South-West Towards Schroon Lake

There also is a primative campsite on top of Pharaoh Mountain.

 Primative Campsite on Pharaoah Mountain

To the South-East there is Pharaoh Lake, which I did not visit, but the maps show about 5 lean-tos surround it.

Pharaoh Lake

Desolate Swamp is quite purty from the mountain.

Desolate Swamp

After hiking up the mountain, I took a side trip to the beautiful Oxbow Pond, and the other side of Glidden Marsh. Here is the Long-Swing Trail along the edge of Glidden Marsh, near the turn off to Oxbow Lake.

Along Long Swing Trail at Glidden Marsh

Oxbow Lake is so beautiful, and probably real deep.

Oxbow Through Trees

The Oxbow Lean-To. It looks well used, but is in good shape, and has a decent outhouse a little ways from it, a fire pit, along with lots of water for cooking in the nearby pond.

Oxbow Pond LeanTo

The one end of Oxbow Lake is swampy, as it runs between outfall of Crab Pond down to Oxbow.

Swampy End of Oxshoe Pond

Heading back to the truck, the sun flickers on the outlet of Glidden Marsh.

 Outlet of Glidden Marsh

An amazing hike. Definitely want to come back, and possibly spend a night at Oxbow Pond.

Hoof and Leg

So I was walking along Quaker Road and stumbled upon a gut pile. I wanted to take a look and see if there were anything interesting in the pile - I figured any antlers would be gone and it would mostly rib cage but maybe scull. I looked at it and realized it was too big for a deer, it was a cow carcass.

I so wanted to take this hoof and leg, basically everything below the shank, and bring it home with me but I decided against it. If this had been yesterday I would have brought it back to camp, put it in a pot boiled and scraped off as much of the fur and meat as possible for a euro style paper weight. Probably would have needed to put in a bucket with lye drain cleaner when I got home to get the remainder off and then maybe soak in bleach.

But alas I'm several miles from camp and I didn't want to carry around all morning then bring back to Delmar and cook on my inside stove off the rotting meat especially with my windows closed. Plus it's the hoof that's really neat and to seperate that off I'd need a bone saw which I don't own though maybe my wood saw would have worked.

I’m back and riding my bike to work 🚲

Back up at five o’clock though I missed having that blast of heat from the propane heater waking up but the coffee was a lot less fiddly then the my fairly new propane stove which was not working well most of the weekend after propane gelled or dirt got into regulator. It was working good until I ran out of propane on Monday, in the cold wet snow. But it turned out to be a pretty nice day once it warmed up. Much more story to tell.

Good morning! Happy Tuesday. Partly sunny and 29 degrees in Albany, NY. There is a west breeze at 10 mph. πŸƒ. There is a dusting of snow on the ground. β˜ƒ Things will start to thaw out at around 10 am. 🌑️

Rode my bike to work today, 🚲 it really wasn’t a particularly cold morning but then again I’m used to the cold and I’ve been keeping my heat low in my apartment. Why heat things really warm, when I have the heated blanket, plus a hot breakfast and shower to start out the day? πŸ›€ I hate wasting energy, says the boy with the big jacked up truck. ♨️ And I like the cold in the morning, it wakes you up when you hop out of bed. I think this was the first night in many weeks I’ve slept all night without getting up to run to the toilet. 🚽 It helped that yesterday I had a light breakfast, due to running out of propane in camp, β˜• which left me with just enough heat and stove output to reheat some coffee plus a five hour energy shot and some of greek yogurt. Today’s breakfast was a bit more hardy, with eggs, spinach, onions, mushrooms. πŸ‘¨‍🍳 Didn’t make bread last night but will tonight, along with soaking beans for soup. 🍞 🍲

Today will have snow showers likely, mainly after 4pm. Otherwise, partly sunny for the balance of the day 🌦, with a high of 35 degrees at 11am. Nine degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around December 26th. West wind 10 to 17 mph, with gusts as high as 32 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. Total daytime snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. The high last year was 50 degrees. The record high of 68 was set in 1990. 6.0 inches of snow fell back in 1985.❄

Solar noon 🌞 is at 11:44 am with sun having an altitude of 26.1° from the due south horizon (-44.7° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 12.3 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour πŸ… starts at 3:41 pm with the sun in the southwest (234°). πŸ“Έ The sunset is in the west-southwest (241°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 4:25 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 19 seconds with dusk around 4:55 pm, which is 27 seconds earlier than yesterday. πŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 5:31 pm. At sunset, look for snow 🌨 and temperatures around 33 degrees. The wind chill around sunset will be 22. β˜ƒοΈ Breezy, 17 mph breeze β›… from the west-northwest with gusts up to 32mph. Today will have 9 hours and 24 minutes of daytime, a decrease of one minute and 34 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will have a chance of snow showers, mainly before 9pm. Mostly cloudy, then gradually becoming mostly clear 🌧, with a low of 24 degrees at 5am. Four degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around December 10th. Maximum wind chill around 18 at 4am; Northwest wind 6 to 14 mph, with gusts as high as 29 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible. In 2022, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 29 degrees. The record low of 3 occurred back in 1875.

Things were going so well on my trip until they weren’t. Friday was completely on schedule, having woken at 5 am and hitting the road by 7:30. πŸ›» Got gas in Glenmont, traffic was super light on 787 and ultimately the Northway. β›½ I got groceries and needed supplies at Walmart in Queensbury, which I was shocked how empty it was for Black Friday. πŸ›’ Hit the trail to Prospect Mountain from Smith Street in Lake George, by ten o’clock, at that hour wasn’t crowded.

Prospect Mountain β›° was ho hum, I don’t think it would be worth it to pay to drive the auto road in the summer or for that matter to hike it again. The views of Lake George and surrounding country were rather ordinary compared to other nearby hikes like Buck Mountain, Tongue Mountain or Cat Mountain. πŸ“Έ Granted by the time I got to the summit it was fairly cloudy β›… and rather bitterly cold. ❄ Just gusty 🌬️ with the mercury dropping.

I was back to my truck by two, and was setting up camp by three. β›Ί I checked out both campsites five and seven, settled on the site closer to Fox Lair as better protected from the wind and a shorter down hill driveway should we had gotten more snow then expected on Sunday night. Plus better sheltered from the wind, though less solar power. Neither site had cell service πŸ“Ά which is kind of a blessing as I needed some off the grid time without the constant social media and news cycle. πŸ”• It’s tough to turn off social media when home though I have pings always muted from Facebook. Too much temptation.

Gathered firewood πŸͺ΅πŸͺ“ and got the truck unpacked and heater going. All was good the campsite still had a ton of firewood from the hunters who last camped here. ♨ Then I try to start my camp stove and it won’t start. 🍳 Damn, it’s cold out and I want a hot delicious meal 🍴. Played with the regulator on the stove for an hour, trying to clean off the ends and and warm it up to try to free the dirt and condensate in the regulator, getting the stove to work a bit but not well. Started to reheat leftovers from my freezer at home plus added onions and spinach but it wasn’t working well as the stove output was limited. πŸ”₯ Got the fire started, let it burn down to coals, finished cooking dinner over the fire, then cooked some cranberries down with some stevia for sweetness and walnuts. πŸ’

Friday night was a cold night in the single digits. ❄ Even with the fire roaring πŸ”₯and my propane heater on it was cold. The night was cold πŸ› in the truck, my toes were chilly by morning. Without the stove working properly, morning was kind of miserable until I got the fire going, the coffee β˜• brewing followed by a delicious πŸ˜‹ campfire breakfast of eggs πŸ₯š and all the usual fixings like onions and spinach. 🍳 Mostly hung around camp on Saturday besides a brief walk 🚢 along Old Route 8. Saturday was also a pretty cold day for sure, mostly spent reading, listening to podcasts and hanging out over the heater. ♨️ That’s why despite only being my six night camping, but Monday morning in the cold wet snow, I ran out of propane. It’s fine though, it helped me get an early start on Monday so I had the balance of the day to hike at Hudson River Special Area.

Sunday was a bit nicer, but still cold. ❄️ Did more reading, πŸ“š hiked around Fox Lair for a while 🦊 , listening to podcasts πŸ“» and just hanging around camp. The days are pretty short, it was getting up early before dawn, β˜• enjoying my coffee — which was good as I had the stove working on Sunday so it cooked up quickly and then having oatmeal pancakes. More sun and warmer on Sunday, though by evening it started to cloud up and by 7 PM started to sleet, followed by some rain and snow, at which point I headed into my truck for the night. πŸ›Œ Cooked up onions and sweet potato on the stove, then later on finished off the cranberries with bananas and stevia. Listened to many more hours of podcasts. πŸ“» No radio this time, as my radio is broke and normally I just use my phone for streaming. But it was good to be away from the news cycle for a few hours. 🀫

Monday was just cold and wet. 🌧 The sleet, snow, and rain mix just made everything wet and sloppy to start out the morning. β˜• To make matters worse I ran out of propane while I was heating up the coffee, though I got one cup in along with a five hour energy shot and some Greek yogurt with some blueberries I added, πŸ₯„ and I was good. Drove down to Hadley, and decided to spend the balance of the day exploring the Hudson River Special Area, which had some nice views of the Hudson River 🏞 along with Bear Slide Falls. As the day progressed, it warmed and sun came out. 😎 Hiked back along River Road and Gay Pond Road. Got back to my truck around 2 PM, and headed home through Corinth and Saratoga. Got home and unpacked around 3:30, went to the laundromat in Glenmont, got groceries, and washed my truck. Headed to bed. πŸͺ The Glenmont laundromat isn’t as bad as the reviews suggest but more pricey then Delmar laundromat. πŸ’° But it is nice that you can swing to Walmart or the car wash while your clothes are doing their thing. If I didn’t worry about the road salt eating the rest of my truck up, 🚿 I’d probably have just done the usual Four Corners Laundromat.

This weekend looks like it would for the first weekend of December. πŸŽ„ Saturday, after the rain pushes out, partly sunny, with a high near 43. It’s good, maybe that will give me a chance to fix the relay that was malfunctioning that controls the CB radio and dash cam on my truck. It’s clicking on and off. Started doing that on the way to Glenmont, ended up stopping and slicing the feed wire until I can find the lose connection, less I burn out the relay. It’s not a big expensive relay, but still I didn’t want to have to order another one and wire it all up. πŸ“» Sunday, a chance of rain. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 41. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Doesn’t seem like a wash out, most of the rain will be on Saturday. Typical average high for the weekend is 43 degrees.

The next trip is not until the days leading up to Christmas πŸŽ„ where I am thinking of going out to Madison County but it depends on how much snow there is. 🐴 Probably camp at the Brookfield Horse Camp, and then hike the trails or ride some of the dirt roads. Spend sometime down in Sherburne, and maybe other places. Then come back home on Christmas Day. A lot though depends on the weather. ❄️ But that’s the next trip, which is like three and half weeks away. I need a few weekends home for now, though I have a number of family and other things to do in the meantime.

Looking ahead at bar specials, next Tuesday is Repeal of Prohibition Day 🍺 when the sun will be setting at 4:23 pm with dusk at 4:53 pm. On that day in 2022, we had partly sunny and temperatures between 44 and 26 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 42 degrees. We hit a record high of 65 back in 2001.

Hillside

I’m glad the Governor signed Clean Slate

There was a time, not all that long ago, when public records weren’t computerized or easily searchable.

If you wanted to go get the facts about a person, like if somebody had a criminal conviction, you had to drive to court house and file a Freedom of Information Act request, and then either you would get invited in to inspect the records in person or you could pay a few bucks to have photo copies of the records delivered to you. In most cases, employers, landlords and others couldn’t be bothered to obtain a person’s conviction record unless they had good reason to be motivated to find such a record. And you needed a suspicion or information to know which court house to look at to get such information.

Likewise, back in the day, much fewer employers or prospective landlords ever asked the question, “Have you ever been convicted of a crime?” Crime fears used to be less back in the day, but also it was less of a test of truthfulness, as a prospective employee or housing applicant could lie on the question and never be found out. The problem is with computerized databases, often accessible for a few bucks, it has become very easy for people to find out that information.

Computers really changed the availability of information on individuals.

That’s a fact that can not be understated.

More information is usually a good thing, but the problem is that old criminal convictions are keeping good people out of the workforce and out of good jobs that they would be good at. While reports of landlords and employers denying people prima facia employment or housing based on old criminal convictions is not only illegal but likely uncommon, many people may voluntarily not seek employment or housing because they face that inevitable question, “Have you ever been convicted of a crime?” And that’s a problem.

The thing is answering “Yes” to “Have you ever been convicted of a crime?” is embarrassing, and requires an individual to be confident of their own capacities and able to explain their conviction during the interview or housing application process. This is not easy to do, even if the conviction is decades old at this point. It’s a bar that others who do not have an old criminal record face. Making it so that people can truthful say they don’t have an old criminal conviction makes it easier for them to apply and secure the job they need to succeed. Sealed criminal convictions can truthfully be answered as a “no” for all purposes under law.

Most driving records are only public for 3-years after conviction. If you get a speeding ticket or run a red light, after 3 years you no longer have to disclose to your insurer or potential employer that you got the ticket. Bankruptcy and unpaid debts are only public record for 7-years after bankruptcy or the last payment of a late debt, and no longer impacts your credit rating. We do this as a matter of public policy, because we know that while prior behaviors are a predictor of future behavior, after a certain amount of time, current behaviors are more predictive then old behaviors. Old actions often quickly become dated, things we did yesterday don’t reflect upon a person as strongly as what they’ve done more recently.

As a previously convicted individual from nearly twenty years ago, I am glad I no longer have to have this uncomfortable question with potential employers or landlords. I am not who I was in college, and it makes no sense to be actively discouraging individuals who are talented from seeking to better themselves, just because the embarrassment of a decades old conviction hangs around the their necks.

Happy Teeth Cleaning Day πŸͺ₯

I bet I would have gotten a better a grade from the dentist before I had gone on summer vacation with all those ice cream sundaes, lemons and chilli peppers and not always flossing every day especially earlier in the week when I ran out of dental floss. I guess you can’t look back.

Good morning! Yeah, it’s Friday! I complained about the week going by too quickly on summer vacation but not so much this week. Mostly sunny and 61 degrees in Delmar, NY. β˜€ There is a west-northwest breeze at 8 mph. πŸƒ. The dew point is 59 degrees.

A pretty nice morning πŸŒ… though as we start to approach the second half of autumn the mornings at six o’clock are much darker. Good for sleeping. It was such a nice morning that I thought about doing a quick ride out to Five Rivers Environmental Education Center or the Town Park and walking 🚢 three but ultimately settled on my ordinary morning walk. The air smells like silage 🌽 and there is so many people out walking.

Today will be sunny 🌞, with a high of 79 degrees at 3pm. Four degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around September 1st. Maximum dew point of 60 at 7am. West wind 8 to 13 mph. Summer is not looking back. A year ago, we had cloudy skies in the morning with more sun in the afternoon. The high last year was 85 degrees. The record high of 98 was set in 1944.

This morning doesn’t have to be terribly rushed 🦷 as my dentist appointment isn’t until 10 am as I had originally planned for it to be the kick off for a weekend out of town but plans changed. Going to bike down to the dentist then to work. 🚲 I decided to stay in town this weekend β˜” as I’m thinking Saturday afternoon could be quite wet but mostly because I want a weekend in town after a busy past few weeks. Plus Piseco Powley Road has my name written on it for next Thursday morning should the weather be decent.

Solar noon 🌞 is at 1:02 pm with sun having an altitude of 62.7Β° from the due south horizon (-8.1Β° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 3.1 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour πŸ… starts at 7:26 pm with the sun in the west-northwest (285Β°). πŸ“Έ The sunset is in the west-northwest (292Β°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 8:05 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 7 seconds with dusk around 8:34 pm, which is one minute and 23 seconds earlier than yesterday. πŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 9:14 pm. At sunset, look for mostly clear skies πŸŒ„ and temperatures around 70 degrees. The dew point will be 56 degrees. There will be a west-northwest breeze at 6 mph. Today will have 14 hours and 8 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 2 minutes and 27 seconds over yesterday.

When I got home last night πŸ› I had a quick dinner of rice and beans, with some broccoli 🍚 and took a nap until eight while it rained. β˜” Woke up and cut into that watermelon πŸ‰ which was pretty darn good. This morning I’m thinking zucchini, sweet onions and maybe some spinach with eggs. 🍳 Trying to get less sugar on my teeth before going to see the dentist but truth be told it will it will probably be difficult to get all that spinach and onions off my teeth before I visit. But my insurance pays the hygentist so he can’t complain too much. I need a good amount of fiber and protein for riding to work 🚲. My throat is feeling better today, ☺ and my energy levels are back up. The week after vacation is always the hardest at work. Especially when work is super quiet and mundane as this work has been. No really colorful characters this week to research, though that BS session midweek about 2024 was fun.

Tonight will be mostly clear πŸŒƒ, with a low of 56 degrees at 5am. Six degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around September 6th. Maximum dew point of 56 at 7pm. Northwest wind around 6 mph becoming calm in the evening. In 2022, we had mostly clear skies. It got down to 60 degrees. The record low of 46 occurred back in 1987.

Continuing to have issues with my shorts being too loose. πŸ‘– Buying shorts that were 38s at the beginning of the summer was a mistake as even the 36 pair I have is much too loose. At some I’m going to figure out what size of jeans I need and think about getting some as it’s going to be getting cold but I need to figure out what my waist size will be. Hell of it is I’m not dieting or limiting portion sizes at this point, just eating healthy 🍏 and I keep losing weight. Funny what a difference it makes when fruits and vegetables are the center piece of your meal and the rice, meat and dairy are the side or the dessert. I might try to do some thrift storing tomorrow in search of less expensive clothing options, lest what I buy is too big or small in a few months. πŸ‘•

Tomorrow will have a slight chance of showers between 11am and noon, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after noon. Partly sunny 🌦, with a high of 84 degrees at 2pm. One degree above normal. Maximum dew point of 67 at 6pm. South wind 5 to 13 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. A year ago, we had cloudy skies in the morning with more sun in the afternoon. The high last year was 79 degrees. The record high of 99 was set in 1944.

Tomorrow fairly early I want to head to the Albany Pine Bush 🌲🚲 to trail ride potentially stopping at Stanton Farm Market in New Scotland 🌢 πŸ†πŸŒ½ and the thrift store 🏬 on my way over. See if I can visit John mid afternoon then maybe stop at the grocery store or quite possibly Washington Avenue Extension Walmart is search of those wonderful dried pearl onions πŸ§…they had at least in the Finger Lakes.

Looking ahead to Sunday, a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms before 8am, then a slight chance of showers between 8am and 2pm, then a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2pm. β›ˆ Mostly sunny, with a high near 82. Southwest wind 5 to 10 mph becoming west in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 20%. Maximum dew point of 65 at 7am. Typical average high for the weekend is 83 degrees.

I will take a wait and see approach to the Sunday. β›ˆ It might go for a bike ride in the morning πŸŒ… and then going out to the folks house in the evening.

Looking ahead to September, there are 3 weeks until Average High 79🌑️when the sun will be setting at 7:31 pm with dusk at 7:59 pm. On that day in 2022, we had mostly sunny, rain showers and temperatures between 73 and 55 degrees. We hit a record high of 96 back in 1953. Hoping to be up in Spectulator that weekend to be celebrating the end of the summer at the Spectulator Tree Farm. By then I wouldn’t be surprised if the high country has it first signs of autumn. πŸ‚

Mine Kill Gorge

Back to work for three more days assuming that the local bus arrives 🚏

It’s running late but so am I. Some of it is my fault, I didn’t get a real early start and I rode my bike to the store first for groceries. I needed more fresh fruit for the coming week and more rice and beans so I could cook prior to vacation.

Good morning! Happy Tuesday. Partly sunny and 71 degrees at the Elsmere. NY. Calm wind. The dew point is 67 degrees. The muggy weather ends Sunday around 2 am. πŸ˜“

I tell you I might have been better riding Blackie to work rather then catching the bus, 🚌 seeing how late it’s running today. But I decided to go to the store, stock up my pantry πŸ‘ 🍏 🍌 with lots of fruit and veggies 🌢 πŸ«‘ πŸ„ and also rice and beans. 🍚 I soaked black beans and will cook them tonight, followed by red beans tomorrow so I can bring them out on vacation. Vacation starts on Friday. 🏊‍♀️

Today will have a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms after 3pm. Partly sunny 🌞, with a high of 86 degrees at 4pm. Two degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 68 at 10am. West wind 3 to 6 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. It was somewhat humid. The high last year was 88 degrees. The record high of 97 was set in 1963.

I am going to build an updated list of everything I need to pack πŸŽ’ as it seems like my packing list has gotten very out of date in recent years and it means I sometimes forget things, especially as my equipment and tastes have changed for camping.

Solar noon 🌞 is at 1:02 pm with sun having an altitude of 67.1° from the due south horizon (-3.8° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 2.5 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour πŸ… starts at 7:44 pm with the sun in the west-northwest (291°). πŸ“Έ The sunset is in the west-northwest (298°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 8:24 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 16 seconds with dusk around 8:56 pm, which is 57 seconds earlier than yesterday. πŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the First Quarter πŸŒ“ Moon in the southwest (214°) at an altitude of 26° from the horizon, 241,681 miles away. πŸš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 9:38 pm. At sunset, look for partly cloudy skies πŸŒƒ and temperatures around 74 degrees. The dew point will be 67 degrees. There will be a south breeze at 6 mph. Today will have 14 hours and 46 minutes of daytime, a decrease of one minute and 55 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight I am going to a public hearing about yet another development in the Albany Pine Bush 🌲 🌲 πŸ¦‹ with the hope of getting home early enough to pack some of my clothes tonight πŸ’Ό and maybe go through one of the supply boxes in my truck to get it organized. Tomorrow, I want to do bulk of my packing, as Thursday I need to run to the store for rope and a few more miscelleanous things, and the more I do early and double check the less βœ… I think I’ll be likely to forget.

Tonight will be partly cloudy πŸŒƒ, with a low of 63 degrees at 6am. Typical for tonight. Maximum dew point of 67 at 6pm. South wind around 6 mph becoming calm after midnight. In 2022, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 61 degrees. The record low of 46 occurred back in 1976.

On this day in 1965, Bob Dylan goes electric as he plugs in at the Newport Folk Festival, signaling a major change in folk and rock music. 🎸The crowds boo and his. Not very respectful. In 1993, The Saint James Church massacre occurs in Kenilworth, Cape Town, South Africa. Liberals use it as an excuse to take away people’s gun rights in Australia, πŸ”« which weren’t protected by an active gun culture or second admendment like in America.

A summer weekend ahead, going to be hot especially Friday through Sunday. πŸ–οΈ Saturday, a chance of showers, with thunderstorms also possible after 2pm. Partly sunny, with a high near 87. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Maximum dew point of 69 at 10am. Sunday, mostly sunny, with a high near 80. Maximum dew point of 58 at 7am. Typical average high for the weekend is 84 degrees.

Looking ahead, next Tuesday is August 🌻 when the sun will be setting at 8:17 pm with dusk at 8:47 pm. On that day in 2022, we had hot, partly sunny and temperatures between 89 and 69 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 84 degrees. We hit a record high of 101 back in 1933.
