Friday, Friday! ๐ŸŒ…

Good morning! Happy Friday! Foggy ๐ŸŒ and cloudy and 46 degrees in Delmar. Many of my windows were closed earlier but they’re back open now. There is a south-southeast breeze at 9 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The skies will clear around 10 am.

Carrot pancakes ๐Ÿฅ• with Greek yogurt and strawberries ๐Ÿ“ were breakfast today. Up a little before 5 am, after breakfast did a bit of reading ๐Ÿ“– about custom house ๐Ÿก building. I keep studying building plots. I need to seriously study CPAs and how to create a plan for managing my money ๐Ÿ’ต as part of the building plan. And I keep varying how much land I want.

Today will be mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฅ, with a high of 59 degrees at 3pm. Two degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around April 15th. South wind 9 to 17 mph. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning, remaining cloudy in the afternoon. The high last year was 47 degrees. The record high of 92 was set in 1976. 8.8 inches of snow fell back in 1983.โ„

Going to ride to work today, ๐Ÿšฒ might bus it home in the evening depending on the weather. It might rain โ˜” again this evening and is expected to rain during the overnight so not going camping ๐Ÿ• tonight. Maybe tomorrow I’m undecided.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:55 pm with sun having an altitude of 58.8ยฐ from the due south horizon (-12.1ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 3.6 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 7:04 pm with the sun in the west (280ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-northwest (287ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 7:42 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 1 seconds with dusk around 8:12 pm, which is one minute and 9 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the Waxing Gibbous ๐ŸŒ” Moon in the southeast (133ยฐ) at an altitude of 46ยฐ from the horizon, 252,187 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 8:48 pm. At sunset, look for rain ๐ŸŒง and temperatures around 54 degrees. Breezy, 18 mph breeze โ›… from the south with gusts up to 28mph. Tomorrow will have 13 hours and 41 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 42 seconds over today.

Tonight will have a chance of showers, mainly between 9pm and 5am. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 45 degrees at 6am. Six degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around May 5th. South wind 13 to 18 mph decreasing to 7 to 12 mph after midnight. Winds could gust as high as 28 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. In 2023, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 37 degrees. The record low of 19 occurred back in 1875.

Tomorrow will be cloudy, then gradually becoming mostly sunny โ˜๐Ÿ‘‰ โ˜€ , with a high of 58 degrees at 2pm. Four degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around April 13th. Northwest wind 9 to 15 mph. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning, remaining cloudy in the afternoon. The high last year was 66 degrees. The record high of 93 was set in 1941. 5.8 inches of snow fell back in 1947.โ„

I might do a quick overnight camping ๐Ÿ• tomorrow but it depends on the morning tomorrow though maybe I should decide by evening so I can get gear together ๐ŸŽ’๐Ÿฅพ and maybe run to the store and top off the propane tank. ๐Ÿฎ It looks like tomorrow evening and night would be good for a fire ๐Ÿ”ฅ and Sunday would be nice for a spring time hike.

Looking ahead to Sunday, mostly sunny, with a high near 55. โ˜€ West wind 10 to 15 mph. A bit breezy it would seem. But nice if not a bit cool. But at at least things are greening up. Typical average high for the weekend is 62 degrees.

Looking ahead, there are 3 weeks until Average High is 70 ๐Ÿฎ when the sun will be setting at 8:07 pm with dusk at 8:37 pm. On that day in 2023, we had sunny and temperatures between 77 and 39 degrees. Maybe that weekend I’ll do the Catskill Scenic Trail with everything green and spring like then. We hit a record high of 92 back in 1970.

 Schroon Lake

Another rather dreary Saturday ahead ๐ŸŒง๏ธ

After a busy week that went by like a flash, we made it to another maybe not so nice of a weekend. Tomorrow looks better but with a cold, blustery conditions. But then warmer and sunny for the eclipse on Monday, and the same with Tuesday but then rain comes back in for the second half of next week. But things might improve come next weekend. Is that an opportunity to get out out town?

Good morning! Happy Saturday. The weekend has arrived already again. Seemed like the last time I looked it was Easter weekend and I was in the Adirondacks.  ๐ŸฆŽ Time goes by so quickly these days. Clouds with rain showers, a damp 36 degrees in Delmar. โ˜” There is a north-northwest breeze at 10 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. Temperatures will drop below freezing at Monday around 2 am. โ˜ƒ๏ธ

Started the morning with some johnnycakes with sweet onions and spinach. ๐Ÿฅž Topped them with cottage cheese then had a small side of ground oatmeal and banana ๐ŸŒ as sort of a dessert. โ˜•๏ธ And more coffee. I had much too much caffeine yesterday, and it impacted my sleep during the middle of the night last night, but it wasn’t too bad. Will need to go shopping tomorrow early. ๐Ÿ›’ Usually Sunday morning early, the crowds are thin and the stores well stocked.

Today will have a chance of showers before 10am, then a slight chance of showers after 2pm. Cloudy ๐ŸŒฆ, with a high of 46 degrees at 4pm. Nine degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around March 19th. North wind 10 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. Apparently they’ve not gotten the news at the weather bureau that the calendar says spring. A year ago, we had cloudy skies in the morning, which became light rain by afternoon. The high last year was 65 degrees. The record high of 82 was set in 1921. 17.3 inches of snow fell back in 1982.โ„

It’s not the nicest day out, but I’m hoping as the day goes on the weather can improve, and I can ride out to Voorheesville. ๐Ÿšด‍โ™‚๏ธ Later on I might also want to go to the library to upload some things to my blog, ๐Ÿ“š ๐Ÿค– and maybe get some books out. I am taking a bit slow today, as yesterday was a long day after getting up at 4:30 or 5 AM then going to work at 6:30 AM on my bike, then going to the other office by around 9:30 or so, and then working there until quarter to six, and riding back home, as I missed the bus by a few minutes. ๐ŸšŒ But it’s all good, I got my exercise in. ๐Ÿ’ช

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:58 pm with sun having an altitude of 54.1° from the due south horizon (-16.8° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 4.4 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 6:50 pm with the sun in the west (274°). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west (280°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 7:28 pm after setting for 2 minutes and 56 seconds with dusk around 7:56 pm, which is one minute and 9 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 8:31 pm. At sunset, look for rain showers ๐ŸŒง and temperatures around 43 degrees. There will be a north breeze at 14 mph. Today will have 13 hours and 2 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 52 seconds over yesterday.

My neighbor who had that big pile of trash next to his unit has moved out ๐Ÿš๏ธ and they’re remodeling the unit next door. Doing work today too, but not super noisy work. It’s a good sign they’re remodeling the other unit. As it seems like they won’t be in a rush to tear down my unit. I should be prepared to have my rent bumped up $100 a month come June, as it expected from the notice of the increase to $800, but so be it.

The thing is I still need time to research and think about buying or building a home.  ๐Ÿ’ญ I am not so aggressively looking at that right now, though I do keep my eye on Zillow and Landwatch to see what is popping up these days, ๐Ÿ„ and houses to for the right one. Even if I do end up signing a lease in June, there will probably be an escape hatch or at any rate, it’s going to take time, especially if I’m thinking of building. I am undecided though, as renting remains the most affordable option due to the low cost of heat and electricity, and being able to bike or take public transit  ๐Ÿš๏ธ to work each day. The thing is if you save and invest in things like stocks and bonds  ๐Ÿ“Š you have a lot more flexibility. You can move cash out of state, you can’t move a house.

Tonight will have a slight chance of showers before 9pm. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 33 degrees at 4am. One degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around April 5th. North wind 11 to 14 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. In 2023, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became partly cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 34 degrees. The record low of 13 occurred back in 1982.

As previously noted, there are 3 weeks until Arbor Day ๐ŸŒณ when the sun will be setting at 7:52 pm with dusk at 8:21 pm. On that day in 2023, we had partly cloudy, patches of fog and temperatures between 62 and 40 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 65 degrees. We hit a record high of 91 back in 1962.

Powerlines Cut Through Moreau Lake State Park

Happy Easter ๐Ÿฐ

Back from the Adirondacks as March comes to it’s logical conclusion. It was a nice long weekend up north. Things are unpacked and I’m out visiting the folks for Sunday dinner. It wasn’t a bad weekend but it was cold with the wind.

Good evening! Partly clear and 47 degrees in Dormansville, NY. ๐ŸŒƒ There is a west-northwest breeze at 10 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. Going to try to leave at least some of the windows open tonight even if it’s cold. It will help with the moisture levels, especially if I have clothes hung out to dry downstairs. Between those nights in the wilderness, the big ol’ fire and having my windows open, I should sleep like a baby.  ๐Ÿ›Œ No waking me before five o’clock, maybe later.

I swear when I was driving through the State Office Complex ๐Ÿข that the grass is starting to green up. ๐ŸŒพ I guess that’s to be expected, it’s April and it’s been quite mild. I don’t see much freezing weather for Albany in the coming week but a lot of rain. Snow though maybe in the mountains โ›ฐ but it will probably be a while before I head back up to the woods again. That said, I’m really looking forward to the green-up.

Tonight will have increasing clouds โ˜, with a low of 32 degrees at 6am. One degree above normal, which is similar to a typical night around April 2nd. Northwest wind 5 to 10 mph becoming light west after midnight. In 2023, we had light rain in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 41 degrees. The record low of 9 occurred back in 1923.

It was nice to get away to camp โ›บ for a while on the East Branch Sacandaga River though a bit cold ๐Ÿƒ and noisy like NY 8 always is. Saturday evening on the East Branch Sacandaga River No. 5. Still a lot of snow in parts, hit a snow drift on the driveway to the campsite had to dig it out a bit to get up the hill to camp. Great weekend but cold. While you can hear the rumble of trucks climbing Eleventh Mountain on NY 8, I didn’t see a single human up there all four days.

The nearest campsite is over a mile away, the nearest house is 6 miles to the east and 15 miles from the west. โ›ฐ๏ธReally remote country but also not far from year round maintained asphalt. I like coming up here during shoulder season when most Adirondack back country roads are impassable by my truck. Wild but a bit noisy.

Rode my bike to the road summit of NY 8 – Eleventh Mountain, spent a lot of time wandering around Fox Lair ๐Ÿšฒ and then Easter I hiked from Griffin to the backside of Forks Mountain which I followed an unmarked path, bushwhacked through swampy ground on the ridge near Forks Mountain ๐Ÿฅพ then down to the east side of the gorge below Auger Falls then up along the East side of Auger Falls.

The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 6:44 pm with the sun in the west (271°). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west (277°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 7:21 pm after setting for 2 minutes and 55 seconds with dusk around 7:49 pm, which is one minute and 9 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 8:23 pm. At sunset, look for partly clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 45 degrees. There will be a west-northwest breeze at 9 mph. Today will have 12 hours and 45 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 53 seconds over yesterday.

It was great to be away from it for a few days. โ˜บ๏ธ It was annoying that my e-books expired on Saturday but I still got in lots of reading before that point came to be. Plus a lot of time to listen to podcasts and videos I had downloaded, without the distraction of social media.

Tomorrow will have a slight chance of showers before 3pm. Cloudy ๐ŸŒฆ, with a high of 49 degrees at 4pm. Three degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around March 26th. South wind 5 to 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning, which became light rain by afternoon. The high last year was 74 degrees. The record high of 77 was set in 1986. 5.0 inches of snow fell back in 1924.โ„

As we head into April, next Sunday is 7:30 PM Sunset ๐ŸŒ‡ with dusk at 7:57 pm. On that day in 2023, we had mostly sunny and temperatures between 48 and 34 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 55 degrees. We hit a record high of 87 back in 2010.

Happy Friday, on this Most Beautiful Day ๐ŸŒž

Definitely won’t get so soaked riding in this morning. It feels almost spring like. I feel refreshed, even if it was a tough night with smoke detector problems again with my windows closed. Things are tough these days, but they’ll get better. I just got to keep pushing forward, I’ve worked hard to get where I am and have a lot of potential ahead.

Good morning! Yeah, it’s Friday! Sunny and 31 degrees in Delmar. ๐ŸŒž Calm wind.

Riding to work on this beautiful morning. ๐Ÿšฒ Oiled my chain well after yesterday’s very wet ride to work. It was starting to bind up and click from the rust. Been a while since I last lubricated it. It was so wet riding in yesterday. The ride home wasn’t bad, and I even stopped and got eggs at the supermarket ๐Ÿฅš and rode the rest the way home, the long way via the bike trail through Slingerlands with still some light left by the time I got home. And no eggs were broken in the process. ๐Ÿ˜€

I’ve been complaining a lot lately, especially about my living situation, but there is hope. I love my new position as the Director of Data Services ๐Ÿ‘จ‍๐Ÿ’ผ as it involves skills I’ve been using for a long time, and there is a lot of creativity and thinking involved in developing the queries and scripts to get the data outputted and delivered to clients. Plus, yesterday I got the official position description, and it somehow strokes my ego ๐Ÿ’ช the way it’s written.

Today will be sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 53 degrees at 3pm. 11 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around April 2nd. Light and variable wind. A year ago, we had cloudy skies. The high last year was 39 degrees. The record high of 68 was set in 2012. 6.5 inches of snow fell back in 2013.โ„

Continuing to read and research buying land to build a house. ๐Ÿ” To get a mortgage or pay cash is one of the big questions on my mind, but I’m trying to get hard facts on the costs of doing it both ways. I am determined to do it right, even if it takes time. โฒ Spend the money that is necessary, pay the right professionals a fair amount. Everybody has a different opinion! But that’s good, I will weight what is right for my situation. I would like to close on land before the winter, and move out to the land and camp there ๐Ÿ• until my place is built next year if at all possible.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:07 pm with sun having an altitude of 42.7° from the due south horizon (-28.1° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 6.5 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 5:17 pm with the sun in the west-southwest (258°). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west (265°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 5:54 pm after setting for 2 minutes and 55 seconds with dusk around 6:22 pm, which is one minute and 12 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 6:55 pm. At sunset, look for mostly clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 50 degrees. There will be a calm wind. Today will have 11 hours and 38 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 53 seconds over yesterday.

Closed my windows as it was cold last night and the damn smoke detector went off two or maybe three times from accumulated smoke, dust and humidity in my apartment. ๐Ÿ‘ฉ‍๐Ÿš’ This really is killing me, I only replaced the alarm a few months ago and I don’t want to go without a smoke detector in case of a real fire. Plus the air quality is so bad it’s hard to sleep with the windows closed, though I don’t have the visible mold problems my apartment once had since the landlord fixed all the leaks and I got serious with the bleach, but it’s still not good. Maybe I got to try to clean more though I’m not convinced that’s the problem.

I tell myself, I got to get out of this place. ๐Ÿก That’s what I tell myself. Now is the time I can make that change but it’s going to take time โŒš as moving is complicated especially if I want to live in my dream place out in the country off grid. At least soon it will be warm enough most days to have the windows open which will help with the moisture and air quality issues. ๐Ÿ”ฒ  It would be nice if I could point to something that was wrong, but nothing obvious appears to be wrong. Maybe I got to try to clean better. I guess I should probably reach out to my new slumlord before the fire department shows up.

Tonight will have increasing clouds โ˜, with a low of 33 degrees at 5am. Nine degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around April 5th. Calm wind becoming south 5 to 9 mph in the evening. In 2023, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 28 degrees. The record low of -14 occurred back in 1943.

In 1965, Thirty-five hundred United States Marines are the first American land combat forces committed during the Vietnam War. ๐Ÿช– After promises in 1964 of no escalation in the conflict in Vietnam ๐Ÿ‡ป๐Ÿ‡ณ one of the most decisive and arguably tragic wars underway.

Tomorrow will rain likely, mainly after 4pm. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a high of 49 degrees at 1pm. Six degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around March 25th. Breezy, with a south wind 10 to 15 mph increasing to 17 to 22 mph in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 34 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. A year ago, we had cloudy skies. The high last year was 43 degrees. The record high of 81 was set in 2016. 6.9 inches of snow fell back in 1961.โ„

Looking ahead to Sunday, rain likely before 4pm, then a chance of rain and snow showers. Mostly cloudy, ๐ŸŒง๏ธ with a high near 47. South wind 5 to 10 mph becoming west 13 to 18 mph in the morning. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible. Typical average high for the weekend is 43 degrees.

Friendly strangers in black sedans want you to know, next Friday is the Ides of March โœ when the sun will be setting at 7:03 pm with dusk at 7:30 pm (Daylight Savings Time). On that day in 2023, we had mostly sunny and temperatures between 37 and 29 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 45 degrees. We hit a record high of 72 back in 2019.

 Back In Delmar

One more nice day before the snow ๐ŸŒž

Monday, Monday. Riding to work and enjoying it before the snow comes and takes over the land again during this mid-February Valentine’s Day Week. Then a three-day weekend, though it might be cool and snowy so who knows about Madison County come Friday.

Good morning! Monday’s come back around again. Cloudy and at the freezing point in Delmar, NY. โ˜ There is a northwest breeze at 5 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. Going to warm up as the day progresses, with the skies clearing around noontime. Not a terrible day ahead, though the morning will be cloudier and tomorrow will snow.

Oatmeal pancakes with shredded orange ๐Ÿฅž ๐ŸŠ made for a delicious ๐Ÿ˜‹ start to the morning today. Topped with lots of blueberries I will note. ๐Ÿซ I know I’m waiting for the inevitable blood sugar crash ๐Ÿ“‰ though I’m hopeful that the protein in the egg plus the mixture of oatmeal, shredded orange including the peel and whole ๐ŸŒพ flour will help slow the crash. Didn’t use any maple ๐Ÿ syrup today, the blueberries were plenty of sugar, lol. ๐Ÿ˜‚

I figure today’s the day to ride to work if any day this week. ๐Ÿšฒ ๐Ÿ‘‰ ๐ŸŒจ Tomorrow is going to be quite snowy, so it will be back to busing it back and forth to work. ๐Ÿšตโ€โ™€๏ธ And after the snow tomorrow, the rail trail will be likely impassable for several days, โ›„ and while I could take Corning’s Hill and South Pearl to work, it’s going to be cold plus the shoulder of the South Pearl near the Port is a muddy rough mess. Not to mention, Wednesday looks like it will be quite cold. โ„๏ธ I do need to call the bike shop and ask about a tune up for the bike ๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿ”ง and getting those gears really tight and working well before spring comes and appointments with the bike mechanic get really hard to get. As I ride my bike nearly every day, I want to keep it running in top condition.

Today will be partly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 42 degrees at 2pm. Seven degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around March 6th. Northwest wind 5 to 7 mph. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies. The high last year was 47 degrees. The record high of 55 was set in 1932. 13.5 inches of snow fell back in 1988.โ„

On the way in, I got to stop at Hannaford โค๏ธ ๐Ÿฌ and get some candy to hand out in the office for Valentines’ Day. As the director now, I have to make sure I have little trinkets to give away for holidays and special occasions to reward staff. ๐ŸŽ Nice little gestures. I know that’s what they did for years when I was just staff and deputy management, but being I’m now the big man in town, I got to make sure to plan to do such things going forward. ๐ŸŽ‚ Also need to look up my staff’s birthdays and make sure to have cake or cookies for each of their birthdays. Figure I should budget about $20 a month for that. Even if I don’t eat cake and sweets anymore, I know a lot of people like that kind of thing. ๐Ÿช It’s a nice gesture and important for a successful office.

Been exploring more of the free resources of the Bethlehem Public Library, ๐Ÿ“š namely E-Books borrowing using the Libby app that let’s you read ๐Ÿ“– and listen to audio books for free on your phone or Kindle if you have such technology. Mom was going to give me her old Kindle but I struggled to understand how the technology works ๐Ÿ“ฒ and after cussing it out ๐Ÿคฌ I think it might be too old of a model. At any rate, I think it easier to read E-Books on my phone with the Libby app which saves them on the phone so I can use it offline in the remote Adirondack country. That said, I’ll probably use the audio books even more ๐Ÿ“ผ as I can listen while riding my bike ๐Ÿšฒ or by the campfire ๐Ÿ”ฅ. I figure with my taxes so damn high, I best use every free government service out there – be it the state forests, free guided hikes, lectures, nature bus, bike trails etc.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:11 pm with sun having an altitude of 33.6ยฐ from the due south horizon (-37.3ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 9 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 4:43 pm with the sun in the west-southwest (245ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-southwest (252ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 5:23 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 3 seconds with dusk around 5:51 pm, which is one minute and 18 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the Waxing Crescent ๐ŸŒ’ Moon in the west-southwest (238ยฐ) at an altitude of 30ยฐ from the horizon, 226,878 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 6:25 pm. At sunset, look for partly cloudy skies ๐ŸŒƒ and temperatures around 39 degrees. There will be a northwest breeze at 6 mph. Tomorrow will have 10 hours and 31 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 39 seconds over today.

Groceries were another $120 this week, ๐Ÿคฏ which is more pain on the budget, but I did also buy some more loaf pans and knife sharpener. Eating all those fresh fruit and vegetables really adds up. ๐ŸŽ And it’s not like things are going to waste, ๐Ÿšฏ by the end of last week my freezer was mostly empty except for camping ice, but between inflation and everything else it adds up. Sunday night dinner was a really nice tomato ๐Ÿ… bean soup with the family ๐Ÿ‘ช, I made some of my onion๐Ÿง… and carrot bread ๐Ÿฅ• to share. Took home leftovers, been slowly but surely eating up what’s in the freezer in an effort to cut my grocery costs. ๐Ÿ›’ Inflation sucks and I make good money ๐Ÿ’ต these days but it doesn’t go very far anymore. Maybe it’s because I’m so committed to saving and investing in my future, ๐Ÿ”ฎ but I find it hard to make ends meet during these inflationary times.

I don’t even want to think about my $530 car insurance bill due the end of March or my taxes ๐Ÿฆ which I haven’t started yet. I’ve been withholding extra out of each paycheck, ๐Ÿ“‚ which I’m hoping will help ensure I don’t owe a shit ton come April 15th. I got to figure out which service to use — I’ll probably use a Free-file site for my federal taxes, then copy that information onto a state tax form, and mail it in like I did last year. Hopefully not mess it up this time, and get a letter from State Tax Department. I hate filing taxes, especially when the government already knows how much money I make ๐Ÿ” as they get copies of my tax documents from my employers, banks, and vendors already. Thanks tax-vendor-software lobbyists and corporations. ๐Ÿ•ดLife has gotten so damn expensive these days.

Tonight will have a chance of snow, mainly after 4am. Increasing clouds ๐ŸŒจ, with a low of 30 degrees at 5am. 13 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around March 27th. North wind 3 to 6 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible. In 2023, we had cloudy skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 24 degrees. The record low of -18 occurred back in 1875.

Yeah, I got to turn the heat back on tonight. โ™จ๏ธ It’s been nice the few days with the heat off and the windows open. No electric blanket use either. I’ve been using the electric blanket a lot more this year, but not he past few nights. My electric bill has come down somewhat, ๐Ÿ”Œ as I’ve not made as many soups and beans on the stove top, and have been making sure my oven is fully packed ๐Ÿž when baking bread, to get as many meals as possible out of each time things are cooking in the oven. I like cooking ๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿณ but it can get pricey at times buying those whole-food type ingredients, which really can be a lot more expensive when added up then the packaged processed crap I used to buy a lot more of when I was fat. ๐Ÿคฐ

Hopefully now with that cable I bailed out from the post office ๐Ÿ”Œ โŒจ I’ll be able to use that USB switch I bought two weeks ago, to switch between my laptop and work PC seemlessly when I get into the office. Otherwise I’m out $17 and a lot of aggravation, but it seems like the switch is working well when I tried it with the one cable it originally came with and the second cable I bailed out due to insufficient postage by the seller seems to be working fine. We’ll see when I get to the office this morning I guess. ๐Ÿข That and tinkering with the gears โš™ on my bike has been so much aggravation over the past two weeks. At least lately I’ve not been having problems with the smoke alarm ๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿš’ repeatably going off. The warm weather over the weekend has allowed me to have the windows open and clear out some of the cooking smoke and moisture from my dumpy apartment.

Cool with times of sun for President’s Day. โ›… Saturday, a chance of snow showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 32. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Sunday, partly sunny, with a high near 34. President’s Day, partly cloudy, with a high near 42. Typical average high for the weekend is 36 degrees.

As previously noted, next Monday is Presidents Day ๐Ÿ‘ด when the sun will be setting at 5:33 pm with dusk at 6:00 pm. On that day in 2023, we had mostly cloudy and temperatures between 47 and 23 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 37 degrees. We hit a record high of 66 back in 1981.

I’d like to get out of town for President’s Day ๐Ÿ• but the weather doesn’t look great. I was thinking about taking a half day off on Friday to head out to Brookfield and Charles Baker Horse Camp ๐Ÿด for the long weekend, but now it’s looking like lake effect snow on Friday, and there is now way in hell I’m going to do the hills around Brookfield in the snow. I’ve dealt with those roads in the past, and they’re not well plowed, as Madison County primarily uses just sand and not salt, and some of those hills can be quite icy. That said, things could change before the weekend, so I’ll keep it in mind.

Made it to Saturday – what a week ๐Ÿ˜ฉ

I tried to sleep well last night, but now I’m fried. I’m trying to get up and moving — but it’s tough. My head is just spinning from the week that was. Nothing serious, but it’s just so much to learn at my new job, more stupid little bull-sheet that’s just left me fried after the week that was.

Good morning! Partly sunny and 45 degrees in Delmar, NY. ๐Ÿ˜Ž There is a south breeze at 6 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. Temperatures will drop below freezing at Monday around noontime. โ˜ƒ๏ธ

Definitely enjoying not having the heat on this morning. โน I opened up the kitchen window and the one in my bedroom that don’t require removing the storm windows. The fresh air was so refreshing. Tonight though will be cool enough, I’ll probably need to close the windows before bed, but I’m enjoying the fresh air as I can.

Breakfast this morning was a big pan of eggs ๐Ÿณ with lots of onions, broccoli, corn, and peas. Probably too much tumeric but that’s a given. I’ve been avoiding going to the store to get milk, โ˜• and cutting back on my coffee consumption, so only one pot — I mean cup of coffee this morning as that is all that my milk supply would allow. This afternoon I’ll have to get more milk at Stewart’s. ๐Ÿฎ

Today will have a chance of showers and thunderstorms, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after 4pm. Some of the storms could produce small hail. Partly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 63 degrees at 2pm. 28 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around April 22nd. South wind 6 to 9 mph becoming west in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. If it gets that warm, it will blow through many previous records. A year ago, we had cloudy skies. The high last year was 51 degrees. Almost record breaking warmth. The record high of 53 was set in 1955. That said, during the second half of February we’ve had a few 70 degree records in the past. 4.0 inches of snow fell back in 1892. ๐ŸŒจ Not much of a record for winter.

Today is going to be a nice day and I want to maximize it. ๐Ÿ›  I’ve continued to tweak the derailer on my bike ๐Ÿšฒ, a constant source of frustration but I have it working pretty smooth now. โš™ I’m learning a lot about bike mechanics. I do need to get it to the mechanic for a good tune up before the spring rush. ๐Ÿ“ž I should call about an appointment so it get serviced before the spring rush. Knowing how mechanics are these days, probably won’t get an appointment to late March.

I have a list ๐Ÿ“ƒ of things to do today but heading out for a bike ride to Voorheesville ๐Ÿšฒ in the nice weather followed by maybe visiting Five Rivers Environmental Education Center for a walk is high on that list. The best weather is going to be earlier so I should get an early start. ๐ŸŒฅ More clouds and ultimately rain later.

High on my list for today is finishing up the draft of the map ๐Ÿ—บ I’m making for Save the Pine Bush as they’re looking for it but I’ve been busy and just so tired ๐Ÿ˜ด lately that I’ve not spent much time working on it. But it would be good to have a, draft presented of the map as they’ve been looking for it. Every revision it gets a little better. ๐Ÿ”

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:11 pm with sun having an altitude of 32.9ยฐ from the due south horizon (-37.9ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 9.3 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 4:40 pm with the sun in the west-southwest (244ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-southwest (251ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 5:20 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 4 seconds with dusk around 5:49 pm, which is one minute and 19 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the Waxing Crescent ๐ŸŒ’ Moon in the west-southwest (247ยฐ) at an altitude of 5ยฐ from the horizon, 226,440 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 6:23 pm. At sunset, look for rain ๐ŸŒง and thunderstorms ๐ŸŒฉ and temperatures around 53 degrees. There will be a west breeze at 8 mph with gusts up to 20mph. Today will have 10 hours and 23 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 35 seconds over yesterday.

I got to go to the post office ๐Ÿ“ฌ to give them $3.52 to bail out the USB cable โŒจ๏ธ I bought that didn’t come with the USB keyboard switch I bought last week. Yes, a different seller scammed me again on EBay ๐Ÿ–ฑ๏ธ this time sending me the cable that I was supposed to come with USB keyboard switch I bought. This time they couldn’t be bothered to put sufficient payment on the package so my choice was to refuse the package ๐Ÿ“ฆ and probably never get the cable or hand over the money to the post office. I’m only $17 in the hole for what should have been a $8.65 refurbished switch had Ebay not screwed me over twice. ๐Ÿ˜ก I was angry as duck ๐Ÿฆ† last night ๐ŸŒƒ but for $3.52 more I’ll have closure once I get to the post office later. I can be angry but it’s stupid, not that much money. I’m constantly broke these days with inflation but whatever, I’m also making good money.

Tonight will have a chance of showers, mainly before 9pm. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 35 degrees at 6am. 18 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around April 10th. Southwest wind 6 to 11 mph becoming northwest in the evening. Chance of precipitation is 50%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. In 2023, we had partly cloudy skies. It got down to 23 degrees. The record low of -18 occurred back in 1962.

Too bad it’s going to rain this evening ๐ŸŒƒ, I’d love to sit out back with the mild weather. It’s fine I promised mom and dad to bake bread ๐Ÿž this evening for Sunday dinner. Then I want to get to bed ๐Ÿ› early so I can be up and rising early to go grocery shopping ๐Ÿ›’ tomorrow. I tell myself my pantry is well enough stocked that I won’t have another big grocery bill but with inflation I know thats a lie. ๐Ÿ It’s so hard to get ahead today even with what most people would consider to be a good job.

Looking ahead, next Saturday is 5:30 PM Sunset ๐ŸŒ‡ when the sun with dusk at 5:57 pm. I’m excited about that as it means I can ride my bike home after work, once the snow is off the bike path. No bus fare for you, Mr. Bus Serivice. On that day in 2023, we had mostly cloudy, mild, rain showers and temperatures between 55 and 23 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 36 degrees. We hit a record high of 60 back in 1981.

Ashokan Reservior and Ashokan Mountain

The smell of love is in the air ๐Ÿฆจ ๐Ÿ’ž

Riding the mountain bike out Orchard Avenue yesterday morning I could definitely smell one of the sure signs winter is fading away – the musk of skunk as their breeding season gets underway during the shortest month of the year – February – one of love especially for one of most pungent furbearers out there. Then comes March and April and manuring as the preparation for crop planting season gets underway.

Good morning! Mostly cloudy and 31 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜ There is a south breeze at 5 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. There are 2 inches of snow on the ground. โ˜ƒ ๏ธThe skies will clear tomorrow around 7 pm.

Going to be a good day for riding the bike ๐Ÿšฒ to work today, the rail trail is mostly free of snow and ice. Not so cold, indeed we will start February out more like March then April. Plus it saves time and I get exercise to boot. Should be a nice commute on in. Too dark to ride home but still it saves a buck thirty on the bus fare. โ˜บ These days with inflation every buck helps. The nice thing about riding in is not only the exercise in the morning, but also the opportunity to go for a ride during the mid-day during lunch down by the river.

Today will have a slight chance of showers after 4pm. Patchy freezing fog before 9am. Cloudy ๐ŸŒฆ, with a high of 42 degrees at 1pm. Nine degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around March 6th. South wind 5 to 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 29 degrees. The record high of 65 was set in 1989. 15.0 inches of snow fell back in 1898.โ„

Last night I was filmed for the Reszin Adams documentary. ๐Ÿ“น Being one of the younger members of Save the Pine Bush, getting involved in 2004 after Reszin was starting to step back, I don’t have as many good stories to tell as many Save the Pine Bush members, but I tried to tell the most that I have of memories of her working behind the scenes, putting together the lasagna dinners.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:10 pm with sun having an altitude of 30.2° from the due south horizon (-40.7° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 10.3 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 4:27 pm with the sun in the west-southwest (240°). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-southwest (247°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 5:08 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 9 seconds with dusk around 5:38 pm, which is one minute and 19 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 6:12 pm. At sunset, look for rain ๐ŸŒง and temperatures around 40 degrees. There will be a south breeze at 5 mph. Tomorrow will have 10 hours and 3 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 22 seconds over today.

Tonight will have a slight chance of rain showers before 3am, then a slight chance of rain and snow showers between 3am and 4am, then a slight chance of snow showers after 4am. Cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 33 degrees at 5am. 18 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around April 5th. Light and variable wind. Chance of precipitation is 20%. In 2023, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 19 degrees. The record low of -18 occurred back in 1961.

A picture perfect weekend on tap. ๐Ÿ˜Ž Saturday, sunny, with a high near 36. North wind 8 to 10 mph. Sunday, sunny, with a high near 39. Typical average high for the weekend is 33 degrees. I am thinking about heading out to the wilderness for a quick overnight camping.

One month ๐Ÿ“… from now will be March ๐ŸŒจ when the sun will be setting at 5:46 pm with dusk at 6:13 pm. The average high temperature is 34 degrees, with a record high of 61 in 1895.
