October 6, 2017 8 AM Update

Good morning! Yeah, it’s Friday! One week until Friday the 13th. Mostly cloudy and 67 degrees in Delmar, NY. Calm wind. The dew point is 49 degrees. We aren’t expecting much in the way of sun today, nor for most of the next few days. The skies will clear tomorrow around 6 pm.

It was a cloudy walk down to the Park and RideΒ but no rain yet.Β I wore my vest, I am starting to wonder ifΒ  I should have brought a rain coat for later. Certainly not a real pleasant morning out but at least it’s not raining. It was pretty dark early on, but I woke up early, as I retired to bed relatively early, despite the nice weather out. No big articulated bus on Route 719, but they were running them on the Route 18 last night. I get why they might use the Route 719 to bring the articulated bus downtown, but it seems so silly and wasteful to run the Route 18 with an articulated bus — especially on the 8:15 PM run out to the suburbs that is almost always lightly ridden compared to the 9 PM run.

Today will have a chance of showers, mainly after 9am. Cloudy, with a high of 63 degrees at 12pm. Three degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 56 at 5pm. Calm wind. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 75 degrees. The record high of 90 was set in 1900. There was a dusting of snow in 1954.

The sun will set at 6:27 pm with dusk around 6:55 pm, which is one minute and 43 seconds earlier than yesterday. At sunset, look for mostly cloudy conditions and 61 degrees. The dew point will be 55 degrees. There will be a calm wind. Today will have 11 hours and 27 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 2 minutes and 50 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will have a slight chance of showers before 1am, then a slight chance of showers after 3am. Mostly cloudy, with a low of 56 degrees at 9pm. 13 degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 55 at 6pm. Calm wind. Chance of precipitation is 20%. In 2016, we had clear skies with more clouds in the early hours of the next day. It got down to 44 degrees. The record low of 27 occurred back in 1986.

Today I’ve decided toΒ withdraw my time-off request for next week.Β I will reschedule my dental appointment for next week, as I may take off next week or wait until November for a week off. I will have enough vacation time that I can take five days off, or maybe wait until the week that Veteran Day in November. I don’t know but if I wait too long, snow is a growing risk — and I think the campgrounds along the Blue Ridge Parkway close on October 31st. But I wasn’t going to camp in the 2+ inches of rain they are expecting Monday and Tuesday next week down there. Even in Western NY, they were predicting wetter weather. The following week looks fairly nice based on the climate outlook, but I’ll be watching that carefully and looking to see if it’s a possibility to take off next week.

As previously noted, next week is Friday the 13thΒ when the sun will be setting at 6:15 pm with dusk at 6:43 pm. On that day in 2016, we had rain, drizzle, mist, cloudy skies and temperatures between 65 and 44 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 61 degrees. We hit a record high of 81 back in 1930.
